Here it is, at long last. To all those that have stuck by me (and the rest of the VillainROM team) since I began
developing for the Hero in January, thank you. I hope this ROM is the ROM you’ve been waiting for.
Yesterday morning, an OFFICIAL GSM HERO 2.1 Patch, complete with Radio arrived in my dropbox with a simple message – ‘OKAY TO RELEASE’. Within 10 minutes, Pulser and I had stripped it down and began rebuilding it. We’re pleased to say folks, it’s a great ROM; and it’s fast.
A quick word from kendon: i will try to set up a kitchen on saturday. i know it's urgent
A full wipe (data & dalvik-cache & sd-ext) is higly recommended to avoid problems of any kind!

Why VillainROM 10?
Because it is finally a release build on an official update!

Please note: due to a technical limitation with the VillainROM OTA Updater it shows VillainROM7.0.0 in Firmware version. This is correct, it is equal to VillainROM10 (as it says in Build number)

I get around 2.53 mflops in 2.14 secs.
The same problem as in Cronos, locales does not work.
Are Live Wallpapers working yet? When I tried the ROM this morning they weren't?
That said, it's still worth 5* and a big, huge, honest THANK YOU for your hard work! ^__^

Nope, can't find live wallpapers option.
Linpack score average of 2.5 MFlops and 2.17seconds at 691 Mhz and autokiller at optimum!
Can anyone explain to me why we need that new htc update?
If it has no friendstream, the functionality, stability and speed from Cronos 1.5 is the same as this one ?!?

Well it doesn't seen so fast. I am running VillainROM 6.2 clocked to 748MHz and it is doing 3.3MFlops in 1.64 Seconds and is very very fast. I will wait till more complete rom is released.

Hello everyone;
Recently I have been working with Vanilla Android and have grown to adore it through AOSP releases. However, AOSP releases didn't have the speed nor the stability to meet my expectations- so I started working with a 2.73.405.66 ROM and removed the HTC bloatware. The result has been a VERY fast, stable ROM.
What Works:
-Everything in the MoDaCo custom rom. After installation, everything is (even more with 3.0) shockingly stable.
-Unlike AOSP roms, all the hardware works properly and you get to experience vanilla Android.
What DOESN'T Work:
Bluetooth (on 3.0)
Inconsistencies:
None!
Parts of sense that haven't been removed:
As of release 3.0, all sense has been removed!
This is a very stable ROM. It runs lightning fast, and saves a lot of memory.

Can't connect to 3G on 2.1?
For some strange reason, in Android 1.5's settings provider, mobile network is disabled by default. To enable it, hold the power button and select "Enable Mobile Network". GPS is disabled by default too, this can be toggled in settings.

Oops! I copied a lot of the apk files from an Android emulator installation, and the calendar isn't present on that ROM. I'll be sure to add it next release!

The HTC sync is supposed to be missing, as part of my quest to make a HTC-free rom. However, if I have a chance, I will make an update.zip to add Sync to the rom.

In settings, disable syncing date from the network. That solved the FC problem for me, haven't had a acore crash since then.

And that's why the calendar isn't in the ROM.
The white toolbar will be added soon, however my top priority is the acore bugs.

Sounds like a fine build, however, could you provide a bit more info in regards to what is missing / added in a bit more detail in future releases?
Like: network location: stock / region x removed, region y optimized.
Newer google maps or stock htc?
More info on what is removed; right now it's an "example" of what has been left out. Or at least, that's how I read it.
And you removed the lockscreen? "eliminated it"? Does that mean no HTC lock, but just stock android?

I think app2sd is very useful specially for Hero and it's low internal memory. Some games now for example "iCommando" are getting bigger and bigger and soon it will be a pain in the ass to start deleting apps to install others.
If you can, and it's not troublesome, it will be a very good addition for sure

If you are looking for performances, why d not change Astro by an other file manager ( Estrong is half the size for same features - i may be wrong, please correct me...)

Google wizard FC
Hello, RaiderX303.
ROM is very good, but i have one issue:
after apply a rom and reboot i have a FC in start-up wizard about google configuration process. Because of that i can't setup google account. Maybe i miss something in ROM update procedure.
What i have done:
1. Nandroid backup.
2. Wipe.
3. Flash ROM
4. Reboot.
5. Wait for load
6. Second reboot.
PS - without google sync acc - no market, no gmail, no gtalk
are you using a2sd when having those problems?

Home screen weather animation working (like winmo sense) (was surprised as I did not know 2.1 has this)
camera is faster, looks like probably better pics
wifi works fine
market works fast
contacts + mail synced
maps to be d/l from market and voice navigation looks to be working- didn't get a chance to go anywhere
Great initial release, looks ready for day-day use
No exchange support or Flickr as per original 1.5 Rom.
Have these been stripped, or just not in the new 2.1?

Installation Procedure
- Ensure you have a custom recovery image installed
- Download the ROM and place in on the root of your SD Card
- Boot your phone into the recovery image
- Perform a Nandroid Backup from the menu
- Perform a FULL Wipe
- Select the option to APPL Y a zip, and select the file on your memory card

Upgrading from a Previous Version
We recommend that you perform a full wipe of your device on flashing a new ROM. Feel free to flash without wiping, but if you encounter any problems, try a full wipe prior to asking for support.

It's launcher pro with black notification bar and a replica of the Sense flip clock.

Yeah it is a known issue. How did you mount it?... I'm using DroidExplorer to do it but if there is an easier option....?

use andoid commando, works a treat. even putting all the apps back in one click.
BTW htc bootanimation boring, put bluenex instasd.

Squashing introduces some overhead... 80mb is fine, you can move apps to SD.
This is just cotulla's build with the fixes mentioned.
Don't ask me if it has X or Y.

Great idea projection, because DFT rom was the most stable of NAND roms we seen so far. Free memory is more than 100 mb, what is great, but it would be even better if you removed Gmail, Facebook and YouTube 'cose those are outdated versions and needs to update, so more than 10 mb will be lost! More reports later...

yep i agree on him it could be better to update some apps comes with rom like flash 10.1 and facebook these are outdated and it could be nice changing with updated ones. thanks for this rom
