Try re-updating. Sometimes the updater will say it's finished, but it will have only partially downloaded zImage.tar and not even extracted it. Otherwise, if updating again doesn't fix it, you can download the latest zImage and kernel modules from here or here and place them in the andboot folder.

having the same problem
have tried several times now
Im using the 2.1 sense version...

Could very well be an issue with the server that it is downloading the update from, as this is happening to some users at PPCG as well. Also using the update utility right now you will not be getting the newest battery fixes.
Use the files found here. Download them, delete the old zimage file and modules file from your andboot folder. Paste the new ones into same folder. Boot back into android.

It does the same exact thing to me, I learned to jus stop usin it.
Its to hit an miss for now, and I'm sure someone will fix it sooner or later.

Dave is right, the same thing happened to me. I sometimes have to update twice to get it running
And if that doesn't work, copy the files under Daves reply into your andboot folder like he said
Gotta love copy/paste

Swype restoration app

I had nothing to do with the creation of this app. I am just posting the link on here for others to make life a little easier. It force closed the first time I ran it, but it worked perfect the second time. Uber props to the developer!

If you have root explorer you can do it easily. If you do not have it, you should. Worth every penny if you don't understand adb yet.
Anyway, with root explorer, you just download a swype enabled rom. Open root explorer and navigate to the swype enabled rom on your sdcard. Make sure R/W access is checked at the top of root explorer. Locate the app directory and longclick on the swype apk. Select extract and it will extract the file to your system/extracted folder or something like that. I believe it tells you where it puts the file so keep an eye out. Now locate the library directory and find the swype library file and extract. At this point you just need to copy the files to your system app and library directories. When you have the files placed in their respective directories, navigate to the swype apk file and install it from within root explorer. Now your golden. Make sure to enable swypw in you keyboard settings.
Hope this is legible enough to help.

I'm using it right now on the newest cm7 nightly, suits the rom just fine .
Find the correct .ogg file, using root explorer or any other file manager move the .ogg file to system/media/ui/ and overwrite the initial one. A reboot is needed for sounds to take effect.
U can also adb push "filename.ogg" system/media/ui
/system needs to be mounted 'rw'.
Good luck!

is there any way to do it through terminal?
I hadn't done this on my G2 yet when I posted the youtube link, but I just did it and it took about 20-30 seconds to do it.
I've always found that SU File Manager was easier to do this, so people should try it out.
It overwrites the file, make sure you pressed the S in the top left corner. Then just reboot after you've done everything.
Also make sure that you rename the file and delete .zip at the end.

I tried to use this on Enoms The Official Rom...but I see no UI in media, only notifications, and that's cuz I added that one. Where is the UI folder I need to stick this in?
When I look at the .zip of the rom I can see system, media and then Notifications ringtones and UI. But just in the .zip of the rom I flashed.
Any help would be appreciated

App installation issues

Hey,
When I try to install any application to my phone its giving me an error saying 'could not install on usb or sdcard "
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
I've tried rebooting and the whole battery removal deal. My sd card is not set to read only. And applications are installed on the phones memory then I move them to my sdcard if I need to.

That is the name of the recovery.
What ROM is your phone using? Like CM7 or Myns WarmZ?
Also, what app are you trying to install and how are you going about installing it?
I noticed this on another site the other day. http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...on-usb-storage-or-sd-card-problem-on-android/
Hope that helps.
That's the exact problem I am having. Problem is, that file is not in my sd card!
How do I find out what rom I'm using? Its not in setting.. about phone.
I can you my phone is rooted using unrevoked, and I have never changed any rom or thing like that... its just been unrevoked (the latest one) and that's it... then I just install apps. So, the default rom?
And the difference between my problem and the one you posted is that All APPLICATIONS CANT BE installed, not just some... but it's the same error, exactly as it appears on that link above.

What program are you using to view your SD card? As the article suggests, use Root Explorer to search for the file. You may not be able to see "hidden" files using other explorers. Root Explorer is the default ninja app. ;+)
As far as "what ROM," if you've only used unrevoked, yes, you're just on the stock "default" ROM, albeit a rooted stock.
I was using esfile explorer and I did select the option to view hidden files but that didn't show me everything, apparently. I know this because I connected my phone to my pc, view the files from there and then I found this stupid file that causes this error.
I didn't have root explorer and obviously couldn't install it because of the issue in was having.
Thanks for the help everyone! Much appreciated.

[Q] Deleting apks from zip files

If I wanted to delete some APKS from srf 1.2 zip file so they don't re install when I flash can I just go into the file delete those apks. Or will that cause problems in other places I am thinking not but am just wondering?

Yeah I wasnt going to do anything important just stuff like galaxy s tuner and kies air and other stuff I have never used
yup, i generally do that with all roms i download.. go through and pull out stuff i don't want/need before flashing..
Thanks for the fast response I just did it so hopefully next time I flash it is a little cleaner I made a copy of the original in case I did something wrong I can always install it the way it has always worked in the past.

twrp2.3 update-binary

I can't flash nearly half my zips, and after doing some googling I found out that you have to now replace a file within the zip in order to be useable within twrp. Not a big deal.... only I can't save the dang file without appending some sort of file association. txt, zip, img, bin,mp3 etc...... So how do I exactly save this thing so I can overwrite the original?
I normally frown on double posts, but I can't find this information anywhere. Any information on how to replace an update-binary will prevent me from throwing my phone at a wall. I just want to flash my mason kernel

If u having problem with ur recovery flashing I wouldn't care replacing binaries why u don't use another recovery ?
What about smelkus. That could be the faster and the better option to solve ur issue.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Okay what the problem is that with the 2.3x recovery software they use the jellybean update-binary. To fix this you unzip any zip file that works. Copy that binary over the one that wont flash check updater script to make sure you don't have to change any of the script. Then rezip it all back and it will work fine.
I would suggest changing your recovery also. It is quicker than redoing all the zips. If you want to stay with twrp 2.2.2.0 will work with all your zips.
Oh just double read your post. I use es file explorer on my phone to do the zip fix. I am guessing that you are on a Windows machine. I forget about that sometimes. Been running a Linux box for couple years now.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
a lucid explanation here
If you use 7-zip, simply put the file on windows somewhere and drop it into the right directory. Note that update-script changes to updater-script and the parsing is Amend not Edigy anymore so scripts will change.
