Metamorph help? Update.zip??? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have made ported a theme for the desire.
I have been told, by the developer of the theme, that I must release in an update.zip form (not that we have any other choice) and the rom must not be installable on it's own, ie: if I were to flash the rom, I would only change the themed apk's, nothing more.
It is for cyanogen, so they would have to flash cyanogen, then my theme. It shouldn't work if they just flash my theme. So how would I accomplish this? should I just create a .zip file with /system/app/.apk? Do I need "boot.img (whatever that is)? And will it just flash over the new files. Please help so I can release this fast!!

I think I figured it out, I'll see...

Good luck, and let me know if you want a guinnea pig to test it out!

[Q] Q Please help, can't morph anything

Metamorph gives me an error message saying it can't read the theme control file. It does this for every file I try. I'm putting the zipped files in the Android theme file of my sdcard. I assume they should be zipped. The main theme I'm trying is darkdream. I have a evo and i'm using frost Rom which has fresh as a base.
Are you certain you can theme this ROM? I just performed a search for things like "theme," "deodex," and "morph" and came up with only one result that was talking about theme'ing the dialer.
Try a different ROM and then try to use a MetaMorph theme and see if you get better results.
changing roms?
I flashed a riptide9 theme through recovery and it works fine on this Rom. I'm using frost because it has the same radio as fresh that allows me to tether with my ps3, but it has less bloat. Can u recommend a Rom that will do both and morph? I thought since frost had fresh as a base themes that work for fresh would by default work on frost

Make themes for kitchen

I have trying to get themes to run in the Doc and Stefunel kitchen.
This is a pretty demanding task. Many (almost all) themes can not be used as is due to a non standard resources.arsc and 9.png errors.
There is some theme pro's here.
We like to find a some kind of way to enable any theme inserted in a rom.
Any ideas to make this in a easy way?
/Doc
No one here any ideas? I already proposed someone make a theme kitchen and integrate it with Doc's rom kitchen but apparently all the smart guys that got time and would know how to do that bought a Desire.
Which takes us back at doc's original question someone knows a fail-proof way to integrate themes into roms without having to flash a post-install zip?
Hi Doc,
i know this isnt way you want, but probably it can work:
What about make some script, witch will do:
1) after flashing ROM and start android - reboot android to recovery
2) (i dont know if it is possible) make script for CWM witch will automaticaly flash theme and reboot to system
If Im wrong .. ignore this

I've never need a post-install script to put a theme into a ROM.
Except for the JPY Gingerbread, but me and XGX got that hammered out in the thread in the Captivate forum and it works just fine without a second .zip.

Hi, any link to point in right direction is most welcome
I've merely dropped the framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk into the /system/framework. And any other files like android.policy.jar that goes with it.
For JPY, I had to take a few extra steps:

How can I chance the notifications screen to that one?

I want to change the notification screen to this one, is it possible? how can I do it?
Not sure I can see the identical screenshot, but there are very similar themes in JKay's theme mod thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154278
Or maybe try the uot kitchen?
http://uot.dakra.lt/
it is a screenshot from Steel Blue CM7 Theme for SGS2
how can I use this theme with my rom?
This is my baseband version: I9100TJJKF3
my kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100TJJKG1
build number: GINGERBREAD.JJKG1
Oh right - you could have said so...
Seems like you need a custom ROM first - choose one then the installation seems pretty straightforward, all you need is in that thread (Steel Blue thread)
If it's your first time for a custom ROM, read, read, read and search
If I will flash the custom rom and then re-flesh to my rom the theme will be gone? I have to use the custom rom all the time for this theme?
Sorry, I'm not concentrating or reading enough myself
There are themes for stock firmwares there - see post#2 - but not yours (KF3).
So if you want this theme on stock firmware, you'll have to choose another stock ROM (KF2 for example).
Yes, if you reflash stock over a custom ROM you'll lose the theme.
If it's only the notification bar you want and nothing else, I'd try the uot kitchen if I were you. I've not tried it myself, but it seems user-friendly, supports stock ROMs and you can customise just about everything.
I dont know how to use the uot kitchen, can you please help me?
I want to change the notification screen and bar to solid black, like on the pic I posted
Sorry - as said, I've never used it, and I'm offline for the next few hours.
Hope someone else can help.
Decompile SystemUI.apk, browse to /res/drawables-hdpi/ and find the picture you want to change, replace it, compile it and switch the drawables-hdpi folder in the apk
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
can you please explain step by step how to do it?
I'm new to android. I know how to flash roms and kernels but that's it.....
As I'm sure Bruflot is well aware of, his "advice" is something that someone new to this shouldn't touch with a bargepole.. I'm still new enough not to try...
Just tried a quick go with the uot kitchen and it will do what you want, just play with it. The "generate preview" will help enormously. If I had time I'd do it for you, but screaming kiddies await me...

[Q] UOT Kitchen - System.apk/Framework.apk

So, I forgot to backup my system & framework apk's before I uploaded them into the kitchen and made a new theme. *I know, shame on me*.
Is there a default/stock for those or are they created based of individual phone information?
What i'm asking is, do I need to re-install the rom to get those back or can I just pull them from above said stock apk's?
Android: 2.3.5
Rom:Cm7(08012011)
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!!!
Thanks-

i'm confused. are you saying you dont like your theme and want to go back to stock or you want you want to update to the next nightly but dont want to do the kitchen every time?
I'm not reaaal familiar with the kitchen stuff, I know more than enough to get myself in trouble (changing radio's, roms, etc) but haven't completely grasped the themes yet.
It SEEMS like a couple of things are not changing even if I create a completely new theme (The battery icon, the lockscreen buttons and something else I forget)
My thinking is, there's a generic theme(s) for the rom and when you create a get a new one, it updates certain aspects of it.
If I create a new theme in kitchen and only change the battery, wouldn't all of the other settings revert to the "default" theme?
On a completely different note-
What's the difference between ADW themes and Themechoose themes?

Ah. ok. so what ever you change in the kitchen it will change in the apk. it wont touch the rest of the apk. its kinda like an online apktool. it unpackages it changes the png's you want and then packages it up again using the resources from the apk you submitted. ADW themes are for the ADW launcher so it only themes the home screens. but Themechooser themes the whole phone, or as much as the developer of themechooser allowed it to do.
Great! Thanks

List Of Working Themes for I9305

Just thought i'd make a list of themes that were working on our i9305's maybe this could be updated/stickied.
Working/Tested - Stock ROM
None as of yet
Working/Tested - Modified ROM
MotoMoto Blue Theme
Not Working
???
I will update this as i test themes, and other users do the same as of writing this i have only tired MotoMoto theme.
Yes I was just going to let you know that MotoMoto works, Just to be safe I just Removed the FmRadio stuff out of it ZIP just incase it messes something up, but i dont think it would, if it doesnt find the file i think it skips updating the apk, so should be ok
But yeh I Flashed perfectly. No problems at all I actually like this theme
Before you flash it would be better to make sure you look at the updater_script to check mount points and also what script/setup is being used

Could we not make a unified install script based on this one, to work with other themes that "may not" work?
I think it depends how the themer has setup up his mod, if its the same kind of setup type it should be very easy, Well how about who ever is wondering about a theme mod just put requests in this thread and one of us should hopefully be able to look into it for you or who ever
Doesn't belong in dev. Moved to themes.
Can someone please test and confirm if these theme work on XXALI9
