Vodafone SIM renames my Contacts App! - Desire General

So today my number finally got ported over to vodafone. But it comes with some costs.
1st: The default Contacts app is renamed to HTC Contacts, very annoying!
2nd: It puts a new SIM-Toolkit app in my drawer with useless Vodafone junk.
When I put my old SIM in back, both of these changes revert. I can live with the 2nd thing. But the first one is REALLY annoying me.

I got my Desire through Vodafone and I don't have a Contacts app - it's named People for me. What software are you on? Mine's 1.19.161.5.

1). Depending upon what version of the ROM you are on, the HTC Sense version of the contacts app is called "People" or "HTC People"
2). That is from the SIM card - you'll see that no matter what phone you put your Vodafone sim into.

I changed my language to English to check for sure. In English it says: HTC People. Instead of normal 'People'.
Software Info:
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2

Software Number: 1.21.405.2
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
EDIT:
Made some photos to show exactly what I mean.
With my new Vodafone SIM:
With my old 'Simyo' SIM:
EDIT2: If I put in my mother's T-Mobile SIM, it stays as 'Contacten' instead of adding the HTC prefix.

Ah right, didn't realise you were using the German locale!
Does seem a bit random that it'd change like this. Presumably the OS changes the naming conventions for SIMs from big networks...

It's Dutch actually. Anyway, someone made an amazing post clearing a lot up. I've translated it to this:
About 2 to 3 weeks ago I've been busy reverse enginering the 'People' application by HTC. Back then I noticed that the name of the Contacts-app is dependent on the MCC+MCN-code (Mobile Country Code & Mobile Network Code) of the SIM. Defined by MCC+MCN 20404 (Vodafone/Libertel), the app is renamed to 'HTC People'.
I've tried changing that in the source. But after I made a new .apk of it, I lacked the proper key to sign the .apk with, leading to my Desire not accepting the .apk.
After that I quit it. In other words, you're gonna have to live with it. On another note, the old firmware did not have this. The app would always be named 'People'. Why this is changed... I have no idea!

My t-mobile tp2 model no has changed

I have a T-Mobile HTC TP2 which is a Model No: Rhodium (I have it at home but am guessing that was the name). I installed some software last night that was bult for the HD2 and it must have changed the model no: to T-Mobile_LEO. I found the platform in the registry. Is that the only place I need to change it? Is there an issue with changing the model no: from one device to another?

No, it's not harmful, but you can change it back in the registry if it bugs you. I think it's also possible to change it somewhere in the phone settings, but I can't remember or find it just now. (Sorry, I meant to mention that to you in the other thread, skipped over that point by accident)

[Q] How do I see a "branding" and any news on updates to froyo in Switzerland?

[Q] How do I see a "branding" and any news on updates to froyo in Switzerland?
Hello everyone
Please accept my apologies for my rather noobish questions. I am new to that Android business as I was using "normal" mobile phones in the past.
I live in Switzerland and I bought a HTC Desire from a provider independant shop a few weeks ago.
Question 1:
I did not ask at the shop (but I will within the next few days I guess) if I got a branded HTC Desire with my 24month plan with Sunrise (one of the Swiss providers).
Now, is there a way to find out if my HTC Desire is branded? I mean, of course beside having some sort of logo on it which it has not.
Questions 2:
Hoping that it is unbranded I think I should get the update to Froyo sooner than later.
Has anyone in here (preferably from Switzerland) any information of when we might get Froyo? And if someone already got it, would you like to share when that was and what provider you use?
Thanks a lot
Regards
scheuri
Hi there
I have no idea how to check if its branded. But if you got it from digitec.ch, then its not. I got mine from there.
I'm running froyo on my desire for... probably 2 weeks now. If you didn't receive a notifier, you can check manually:
"Einstellungen -> Telefoninfo -> Systemsoftware-Updates -> Jetzt prüfen"
On english devices it whould be something like this:
"Preferences -> Mobile/Phone information -> Systemsoftware-Update -> Check now"
Hope it helps
Kind Regards
Hi Soul
Thanks a lot for your response.
I am trying the manual update every day several times to no avail. Appears that for my phone (still unknown if it is branded or not) the update is not available....unfortunately.
However, given another thread it might be that HTC pulled the Update back. So I guess more waiting is in order.
I do not mind waiting a bit longer, but I really would be upset if I had to wait just because of sunrise. Reasons is: I thought I bought a "regular unbranded" phone.
Thanks again

[Q] Froyo, Software Build and other questions

Good day
I have just gotten my Desire a few days back. So far so good. I'm really pleased with it, but I still have a couple of questions (which hopefully can be answered here).
I suppose when I bought my phone, it was an AP phone. And I also will assume that it is from Asia/Asia Pacific/South East Asia because I have a choice of using English (Malaysian), English (Singaporean), and others, as well as a Thai and PinYin keyboard. My Desire also has a preset Scene, called HTC Asia. No big deal, I'm from Malaysia anyway.
Question: What is a sure-fire way to check out where my phone is from?
And I will also assume that it is unbranded. I have read a few posts, and branded phone will have the service provider logo appear on start up. Mine doesn't.
Question: Does this mean it is unbranded? Or just unlocked? How would I know if it is unlocked?
I tried updating my Desire to Froyo. No luck. Searching for software updates through the phone yields no results. The message telling me that my phone is up to date keeps popping up whenever I search. Here is my software information.
Firmware Version 2.1update1
Baseband version 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel Version 2.6.29-b7e82785 htc-kernel(at)and18-2 #1
Build number 1.19.707.7 CL171460 release-keys
Software Number 1.19.707.7
Browser Version WebKit 3.1
Question: Why is this so? Isn't Froyo out for SEA? Or does my phone's origins have something to do with the Froyo update? Will I even get a Froyo update?
I've actually brought my phone to a technician, just to chat abit, but then I decided, "Heck, if I can't get froyo, I might as well root it and flash a 2.2 rom". No dice either. After having a look at my phone, the technician told me that my hardware is (too) "new" or something, and I would have to leave my phone with him overnight for him to study it. But he has rooted other Desires before.
He also told me that my Desire would never get Froyo OTA. (because its AP?)
Question: Whats the deal? Are there really Desire's with new hardware out?

im not sure if the froyo update has hit asia yet, but there is no problem at all with rooting, yes there is a new type of desire with a slcd screen, thats the only new hardware i can think about, but even that can be easly rooted, look in the android development section for guides

removed spaces on dialpad (from australia)

Hi,
I want to remove the spaces when I dial a number. I originally had the stock rom with UVALH2 firmware which had it and thought if i flashed to XquiziT Rom it would no longer be a problem. I tried setting a different location and downloaded morelocale2 to no avail. Is their a stock theme with a newer up to date rom available that i could apply to fix this, as much as i appreciate the developers who create the awesome looking theme I just want a stocker that's up to date, rooted and can dial a telephone number without auto spacing?
It may not seem major but it's a real pain in the backside, Any ideas? Im in Australia but had my parents pick up the 4g t-mobile model from HK.
Thankyou.
i'm certain there is some dev out there that could hax something in 10 seconds that would fix this as I'd imagine it happens to other android users(had a similar issue with a friends hk based AT&T s2 model but could flash a Australian equivalent to it.
I'll be patient and pray

Question Missing features/failed software installation/corrupted software?

Copied from the OnePlus forums - no response yet so far
I recently got my new OnePlus 9rt, however I've ran into a few perplexing issues with the handset.
The first issue is that it is just outright missing the manual update option. No cog, no nothing.
The second issue which compounds to the first, is that every time I try to update the software to MT2111_11.A.07_2022031423170148, it fails. My current version is 11.3 according to the phone. Manually updating through the oxygen OS installer also fails. Which brings me to the next point..
The third issue is that under the model section of the phone, instead of saying the model of the handset, it says the model is Lahaina for arm64, which I'm quite sure it's not meant to be there. Everything else, build number, baseband version, kernel version (provided below) match the other handsets. However a cursory examination on this forum says that there were/are people on this forum with a similar issue to the second point.
So I'm wondering, is this ROM official? Or did I get a corrupted pre-install of the software on the phone? Or am I overthinking this?
Also messages don't delete completely in messenger app. You delete them, and then a second later they return.
For reference, here is the information..
Build number: MT2111_11_A.03
Baseband version: Q_V1_P14,Q_V1_P14
Kernel version: 5.4.96-qgki-g449ba87830ff
Thanks in advance
Where did you buy the phone from and what country are you in? Currently the handset is only officially sold in China and India.
Was the package completely sealed, or has it been opened? It sounds to me like you have been sold a handset from the Chinese market and it's had the unofficial Indian ROM flashed on it.
ie. this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...xygenos-a-04-a-07-for-mt2110-devices.4404719/
I bought the phone from Kogan, and I'm from Australia. This isn't the first time I bought a OnePlus from there, but this is my first time with these issues specifically.
As for the package, it was sealed yes. And yes, those issues are practically identical with a few asides - such as the cog button missing. Such as that one..
Device name in settings displayed incorrectly "Lahaina for amd64" instead of expected "MT2111".
Yeah, that's 100% what it is.
Issue resolved, thanks!
