HTC camera app HELP PLEASE - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I erased my camera app off my incredible and am trying to put it back . Have tried this
Adb shell
Su
/system/bin/cat /sdcard/HTCcamera.apk > /system/app/HTCcamera.apk
/system/bin/chmod 0655 /system/app/HTCcamera.apk
Also tried chmod 4777
It showed up in the system/app dir both ways with root explorer but not in the program launcher.
Also tired installing it with root explore and astro.
Any ideas other than formatting would be great.
Thanks for your help....

You need to put the odex file back as well (unless you did not remove that).

I put it back the same way as the camera app. Still no luck.

Vanilla Lockscreen on Sense?

How can I get that? I like the volume slider, since I have to switch to vibrate the other day (i know it goes to silent but I have an app to make it vibrate instead). If anybody has some tips or a way that'd be helpful.

Just delete htclockscreen.apk

I'm on the Skyraider rom, don't know if that makes a difference but I'm deleting it with root explorer then the phone shuts off powers up and the file is right back there again.
Careful if you're on the stock rom and delete the default lockscreen apk, I've heard it makes the lookscreen look really bad. But it works on other roms.

It looks best on 2.2 but it works on 2.1 just it looks messed up

Delete it via adb on your computer. I believe it is rm /system/app/htclockscreen.apk

i would just use astro file mgr on the phone, remove the files from the rom, and flash it again with all changes applied

The only way you can delete a file in system, is if you've used unrevoked forever to unlock nand. Then in root explorer, change system to rw (read/write), then I'd rename the app instead of deleting just in case you need to put it back.

i meant just to edit the rom.zip on the sd card and then just reflash the rom

I don't think this is possible unless he has Forever installed cause what.he described happened to me like 2 weeks ago, I had to use adb

Didn't see that, but yeah that will work too. Either way will work just fine.

Why not
Boot in to recover
Mount System
From you computer (if you on Linux or MAC open a terminal window from Windows open a CMD window) at the prompt type:
ADB Shell
cd /system
mkdir app.backup
mv /system/app/htclockscreen.apk /system/app.backup
You never know when you may need one of files you "RM" into oblivion...

Yes I aplogize for the poor suggestion, moving the file to an alternate folder is a much better solution.

Ok, I'm trying to do either way but it say it's a read only file. how do I change that?

If you're in recovery, you have to mount system under the partions menu first.
Edit: or might be sd card & storage menu depending on version of clockworkmod you're running.

I've used better terminal emulator to remove the lock screen.
Use this line:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
To mount system.
Then:
cd system/app
rm HtcLockScreen.*
(Case sensitive)
Worked great, had to reboot though and it stuck. Until then the old one stayed.
Thanks to adrynalyne for the mount line.

Ok did exactly what you said, then like said it would it rebooted. Comes back up as the HTC one. Am I the only it's done this for? Why won't it just erase?
I just removed mine with adb and it worked without a hitch. Word of caution though if you use your alarm, you need install another clock app otherwise you won't be able to turn the alarm off without pulling the battery. I just installed the stock android desk clock and all is well again.

Where did you find it? I usually use my alarm clock. :/
I can upload it at some point today. Not sure when I'll be home to do so though.

[Ask] How to recover HTCGreaderWidget.apk?

My Desire is rooted and S-OFF. So, thought messing with system/app can be done easily using root explorer (including changing permission).
As you might aware that htc news widget is somewhat buggy, and the official way to recover its behavior is by factory reset, which offcourse I insist not , then I tried my luck by removing it manually from system/app then put back the original htcgreaderwidget.apk from the ROM package.
Turns out I'm not lucky Despite permission has been returned similar to other apks (equal to chmod 755, only using root explorer), the widget doesnt re-show up, even in application manager.
What did I do wrong? What should I do to make it work again? Thanks in advance.
PS. ROM is ReflexTsense 1.5.1, a SenseHD port, a very beautiful and usable ROM ever
=======
SOLVED. Thanks to Androhero
Summary:
Additional rename step is required in order to make the widget coming again:
1. Using root explorer, copy original HtcGreaderWidget.apk from ROM to /system/app (or wherever the ROM install it for your system). Dont forget to mount the drive -rw or otherwise fail to copy.
2. Paste and replace, then modify permission similar to CHMOD 755
3. Exit root explorer (then it will take some time Desire to rebuild its "display").
4. After this, you still will not see the widget.
5. Fire up root explorer again, go to /system/app folder, then rename the widget. Mine is to HtcGreaderWidget-1.apk. No need to change permission, as it is already good to go.
6. Exit root explorer, Desire will take some times to display its image. But still, widget will not re-appear.
7. Open root explorer, rename apk back to HtcGreaderWidget.apk, then exit.
8. After Desire rebuild its display, then the nice looking but buggy News Widget will re-appear and ready to be put back
Btw. This method will not solve the problem with the widget (if you use it, you know what the problem is). The idea for doing this is to avoid factory reset, that is officially recommended by HTC.
Before next update, just get used to its new behaviour, only shows unread rss only and giving error "unable to fetch" if we do refresh but no new headlines coming in

After you add an app to /system/ you should wipe the dalvik cache from recovery
Hi Andro,
Just wiping the dalvik, but also doesn't help
Anything else?

try renaming the .apk to somthing random, sometimes once you delete an .apk from /system/ another one with the same name dosent work
Rename the widget to HtcGreaderWidget-1.apk, but not cured still
Could it be related with signature? Is it possible to create an update.zip signed by personal key, for a system app?

Wait.. wait.. wait.. Renaming it back to HtcGreaderWidget.apk recovers the widget This time, even without dalvik cache wipe
Many thanks Andro And HTC might be right, to recover the behaviour of news reader is by doing factory reset, not simply recovering apk from original ROM..
Well, for now shall getting used to this, I guess.. Until further update

This is the Gallery.apk from SalvageMod1.1. I'm not sure if it's the exact one you're looking for, but it came from a Gingerbread Rom.
It keeps saying application not installed.. is it because I'm using kings GB??

As the other guy said, either adb push it to system/app, like this
adb remount
adb push Gallery.apk /system/app
adb reboot
or, as was already instructed, you can use a file explorer, such as root explorer, or es file explorer, to move the Gallery.apk to the /system/app folder. Then fix permissions and reboot

[TIP] USB-CD-begone

This is a well-known tip, but it certainly couldn't hurt to aggregate it here.
Once you've installed (or blithely ignored) HTC Sync Manager, you don't want to deal with a file browser popping up every time you plug in your phone. To remove it:
Flash a recovery image (for example, CWM)
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/etc/CDROM.ISO
adb shell umount /system
reboot
enjoy freedom
should it be 'unmount'?
No, the command is named "umount"
I just deleted the CDROM.ISO with Root Explorer. I didn't need to reboot before I connected it again, it was gone.

Do you need to root access to delete that? I just tried with es file explorer and it wouldn't delete. I'm stock unrooted.

Yes you do... any root file explorer will do the trick, and it does ask for root access when deleting that file.
I figured that was the case. I was rooted so long on my rezound that I never had to worry about it.

Thanks I've been wondering why that thing pops up. I'll just use Root Browser to get rid of that.
