Question about root and titanium back up - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think i have properly rooted my device (incredible) but I am definitly a noob. I have rooted and have loaded the unresolved2 flash tool. for some reason I am having trouble getting titanium to find my apps. I am wondering if I am properly rooted. The reason why I think this is because when I use connectbot "whoami" comes up as not found under su - local. Can anyone help?

when you say titanium cant find your apps what is it doing thats giving you that sign? when you first installed it on your phone did you click problems and let it download the new busybox for it?

Try clicking on the problems tab and install that busybox that's what mine did and now i have 0 problems(knock on wood)

also, make sure you are not plugged in to USB when trying to use Titanium back up. I was plugged in at first and it wasnt working correctly until I unplugged and restarted Titanium over again.

It backs up way to quick from what Ive heard. Also in Batch Backup/Restore it shows '0' under backup all user apps. I did the busybox at the begining at this is where Im at. I also have rebooted and made sure I wasnt connected. I appreciate the help. Do you have any other suggestions?

ok im not really sure but i could think of a few things for you to check,
1. if you hit menu and then hit filters do you have both "all" selections checked?
2. when you click on backup/restore tab do you see your list of apps, i know this is really basic i am just trying to cover everything
3. on the overview tab i see;
(these first ones might be different depending on if you have the free version or the paid version but the root access one should deff be yes)
root access =>OK (busybox 1.15.3 from app)
hypershell (fast!) => YES
fast/auto app install => YES (using hypershell)
SQlite => YES (sqlite 3.5.9 included)
data directory: /data
external storage: /sdcard (ok)
backup directory: /sdcard/titaniumbackup
is this what you see?
also do you have the superuser app installed, and did you allow titanium backup access when you first installed it?

Mine looks exactly like that. Something I just noticed in super user permissions there was nothing in there for titanium backup.

[Q] Remove GoMarket

Hey guys,
i'm using 2.51 rom UK, but since the black status bar update (i think) i have installed an app called "GoMarket"
I tried to delete it, but it didn't work.
Wouldn't be a problem.
BUT, i realized that this app also catches the market links.
If i can't remove it, at least i want to rid of it catching my market links.
any advices? tips?
read somewhere, just removeing the apk from systen folder possibly messes everything up? don't need something yet. any confirms?
thanks a lot
assuming you've rooted your device, i think you can use titanium backup pro or adb to remove it.

you could try uninstall for root ive used it to uninstall system apps before also some app require device administration permissions and you have to unselect them first to uninstall them the settings can be found in Settings>Location & security settings>Select device administrators
You just need to download titanium backup which is free version and locate that gomarket app in TB and click delete. Or use root explorer to go into system/app and locate that file n simply delete it.
thanks for the many resonses

dont find this option on my phone (as above, 2.51 stock 2.1)
to systems/apps delete it with command or root explorer,
question is, does this mess up may system? read about phones which don't start after deleting goMarket directly ;=)
would have been my first try
edit: thx
Do a nandroid backup if you're worried.
Titanium Backup doesn't work? Make sure you have an updated busybox (there's on on the Market).

[Solved] Oxygen 2.0 - App+data restore fails

Since my post in the development thread has been kindly deleted after ****ing around the whole afternoon with ROM's and restoring, I'm going to post the question here.
Anyone else got the app+data restore working on Oxygen 2.0 final ?
I always wipe before flashing, I tried it with Titanium backup (2 versions) and Mybackup Pro. Backup & restore works fine on CM RC7, but when I try to restore on Oxygen, it's just missing data for some apps.
But some are successfully restored with data, that what's weird.
I first thought, it's an issue with a Dalvik2sd script, but then tried it in clean Oxygen 2.0 ROM. When i check /data/data with the Root explorer, I can see the app there, but it just isn't loaded properly (for instance Financisto, Runkeeper, AlarmClockPlus, Abduction).
So basically, what's different in new 2.3.3 OTA, or am I the only one with the issue ?
Haven't tried all my apps, but its worked fine for those which I have.
Thanks for the dalvik to SD zip btw

Yeah np :]
Could you please check other apps if they're ok ? I got about 130 apps, so it's kinda annoying to don't get the data restored.
Having looked through the rest of my apps, there aren't any which had saved data. I can confirm data has been successfully restored for angry birds, flow, BBC news, your orange, tapatalk, bedside, crazy snowboard and im+

I have been using the Oxygen 2.0 for a couple of hours now and I have to say it is nice, compact and fast.
However, I have noticed that "pm, am" indication are missing from the time notification bar. Also the "AUTOMATIC" on Date and Time settings are not getting any update from the network. Am I right? Or it is just me who has it?
Also tested a previous busybox version, still same issue. But backuping and restoring on Oxygen 2.0 works correctly. Also most apps have the data restored correctly only some have issues. Have no idea, I'll just have to live with some data missing then, the 2.0 ROM just rocks that much :]
I think the best way to reinstall all apps after flash is to let Google install them automatically through market.
i have upgraded my desire from DevNull yesterday after backing up all apps with data via Titanium backup and i didnt experienced any issues with any of my apps (around 80).
This supposed to be the fix, a sqlite lib -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11729730&postcount=341
I think this is the solution to your problem :

Since "someone" deleted a correct fix from the Oxygen thread, I'm gonna repost the file here. Seriously uncool.
Replace the libsqlite.so in /system/lib. You're gonna need to be S-OFF or do it in recovery. Sqlite .db files for some apps that were missing data are readable after, so I can confirm it works.
I noticed the missing data problem almost immediately after installing the rom. Thanks for posting a fix. The "mood" in the new oxygen thread gets a bit tense compared to other desire threads.
If I remember ill hit the thanks button when I'm in on a PC.

Np, please thank orgler, he found the fix and posted it. I just saved the answer and posted it here as a solution.
I saw your reply to me just after sending you a PM. Flashing the libsqlite.zip file on top of latest oxygen rom didn't work. No big deal as the app I really need data for backs up to sdcard. I'm sure this problem will get fixed soon enough.

I just read your instructions again. I'm not s-off. Do you know how I can replace the lib with ADB?

Em, its not a flashable .zip (I didn't state that, but sometimes it's good to open the .zip first )
Boot to recovery, mount the system partition, connect USB cable and go to adb shell (we're gonna backup the original lib first):
#cd system
#cd lib
#mv libsqlite.so libsqlite.so.orig
#exit
Make sure you're in the same directory as libsqlite.so, or copy the .so to the dir where adb is (if your var path isn't set). Then enter in command prompt:
adb push libsqlite.so /system/lib
adb shell
#cd system
#cd lib
#chmod libsqlite.so 640
Then reboot

Thanks for your assistance with this it's appreciated. However, pushing it via adb didn't work for me either.
I have a full mybackup of data and .apk files. There is no error when I try to restore the missing applications, mybackup confirms it's been done and requests I reboot, but the application is never there.....
Any more ideas?
That seems to be unrelated, issue was only about data in the apps, app restore worked. I suggest trying to backup with Titanium backup and try to restore with it.
So: Im sure you kept the nandroid backup with all the apps and data. Restore it, pull free version of Titanium off the Market and backup some apps. Flash Oxygen (you can replace the .so file with opening oxygen.zip in Winrar and replacing it in /system/lib) then try restoring the apps. If it works, you'll know the issue is with MyBackupPro.

[Q] TI backup won't restore apps & CIQ

I just upgraded from a SGS-T959(running miui) and just before I bought this phone I backed up all of my apps. I rooted the phone and now when I go to restore them, it doesn't work.
How do I get around this? (preferably without having to flash another rom)
Also, Lookout CIQ detector is telling me I have CIQ installed on here. So I froze it, yet it still says its there(I read another thread saying I have to freeze it.)
How do I manually remove it, if possible?
Edit: removed CIQ completely in TI.
Your TiBu is probably looking for your backups on the internal sdcard. Change the directory in your TiBu preferences to external.
This is all a guess... you didn't give much detail about what wasn't working.

I copied the backups from the old phone directly to the TI folder on this phone, then I did a batch restore and nothing restored even though it said it did.
Edit: when I try to manual restore it will ask me what to restore, but won't give me the option to choose anything
make sure you have the latest version of TI
it works perfectly fine for me
make sure you got root and busybox
You might need "Unkown Sources" enabled.
Note: Titanium Backup PRO/Donate does not need the "Unknown sources" setting to be enabled, only the free version does.

[Q] Safely Remove Backup Assistant?

I'm fairly new to the whole root/S-OFF/custom ROM world.
After flashing cmlusco's Touch of Blue ROM, I realized that it did not include Verizon's Backup Assistant. Makes complete sense to not include it, however, I found myself in a situation where I briefly needed it. No problem - I just flashed the Backup Assistant apk through recovery and was able to successfully use it.
Now I want to get rid of it. What is the recommended method for completely removing Backup Assistant? What is the safest method for removing it?
I appreciate any assistance/advice
Use a program like "Titanium Backup" to uninstall the Verizon app. It's free in the play store. Once downloaded, press:
1) Menu button
2) select Filter
3) then check "All apps" under filter status
4) check "User" under filter type
5) click Apply then find and uninstall the Verizon app.
Titanium Backup is very useful if you want to uninstall System apps or regular apps since it is a root app. Just be careful what you uninstall cuz you can uninstall virtually anything (widgets, apps, apk's) using this app.
Or you can just use a root file explorer to navigate to /system/app and delete or rename the VzWBAClient.apk, VzWBAService.apk, VzwLBSPerm.apk, and VZWInstaller.apk. Then reboot and it will be gone.

It's much faster/easier to just uninstall it with TB

This is what I ended up doing - thanks for the info.
I was originally going to use Titanium to accomplish this, but it gave a warning that important system files could also be deleted. Given that I've backed everything up, I assume that there wouldn't be any real issues even if Titanium did delete something critical.
Which brings up another question: is Titanium doing the same thing as manually deleting the 4 files listed above? I suppose I could test this by reinstalling Backup Assistant, using Titanium to uninstall, and looking to see what is left...

Basicly yes its doing the same thing just automating it for you. If you delete with titanium the files get deleted, if you freeze with titanium the files are either renamed or moved.

Titanium Backup Stuck Restoring Any App

Couldn't find much on this issue...
Just installed the ROM in my sig. I was trying to restore an app for testing without data. I copied the Titanium Backup folder from my SGSII. YouTube wouldn't restore so I tried another single app and Titanium Backup gets stuck on Restoring App. I tried with and without data and it fails for any app I try. Rebooted, no go. Unknown Sources is checked. I have never seen this across all my android devices. ANY IDEAS MAY VERY WELL PREVENT ME FROM THROWING SOMETHING. Thanks and that it's all.
EDIT:
So after some troubleshooting I tried setting the App Processing Mode to "AUTO, Indirect." This didn't work. If I use "INTERACTIVE," it works. I just have to restore them one-by-one.

I just ran into this, trying to restore my backup of the Chrome system app. It got stuck forever. You have to go MENU -> Preferences, scroll all the way down to find "Troubleshooting Settings" -> App Processing Mode -> and then pick "AUTO, Indirect" or "INTERACTIVE".
For me "AUTO, Indirect" is what worked.
Backup/Restore Apps using Titanium
Most custom ROMs will require you to do a wipe data/factory reset, which will erase all of your settings and apps. By using apps like Titanium backup app, you can easily backup and restore your apps. Even better, if you get a new Android phone, you can use this app to transfer all of your current apps with data to your new phone.
Seems to be solvable by updating SU binaries, using the SuperSU app.
Install SuperSu, Run it, it'll ask you to update binaries, accept, restart, then if root is broken go to SuperSu, go to Settings, and choose "Switch Superuser App", restart again - and boom, it should all work fine.
Titanium Backup
When restoring batch files on the titanium back up observe in what part the restoration stop more or less that app have an issue on the files being restored.
Also you should ensure that you still have available internal memory while doing the restore since app restoration on titanium backup directly go to the internal memory.
USB debugging
Try enabling USB debugging. Worked for me.
I have the same thing happening to me. The popup window just says "Restoring App" and the chaser keeps circling. I have the Pro key for TB installed. I have Super installed. I have changed the preferences as suggested in this thread. I think it's a whole lot easier to reflash the entire ROM and redo all your settings and preferences.
check super su setting
you would want to go to super su and then settings and then uncheck unmount separation box then restart then try and restore.... worked for me.
Should be second last from the bottom

Thanks for the tip mate, a few botched flashes and Kinguser installs later and that tip definitely made my day! Titanium Backup worked fine with Kinguser, but for some strange reason it didn't seem to budge with SuperSU. Turns out I had to unckeck that option.

thanks man, after spending a lifetime i tried your tip and worked for me :good::good:
Having trouble restoring both Boost Zone and Visual Voicemail backups. Both preinstalled system apps that I did full TB backups of for their latest versions. Tried all 3 restore options, the SuperSU settings, and also attempted to install a few .apk's I found, to no avail. (got "out of memory/space" error msg on both apk's) Sigh.... Really just need my VVM app back. Not perfect, but convenient.
I'm having problem with titanium bkp. I had backup all my apps with data on 5.1.1 and flashed 6.0.1 rom. Now titanium bkp doesn't detect my bkp.
Tried many things like
copy bkp files to internal,
just made an app bkp and copy my bkp files to that folder etc.
still my TB doesn't detect my old bkp
