resign applications

Is there a way that i can go into the application file and change the icon.. I have created a few but i am not sure on how to resign the package.. I have the autosign from JF but i it only resigns the update.zip file... please let me know if you all know of anyway... thanx in advance..
the autosign provided in my tutorial will sign all of them. go read the tutorial on how to use it and to download it.
Stericson
Can I sign an apk & install it on my phone right away or does it have to be in an update.zip for the signing tool to work? I have an app that I just wanna change the icon for...
pull it to your comp. change the icon. sign it. push it back. and ya done never tried installing an apk after editing it.
Is there a Mac OS X app like autosign? I believe what I saw in your tutorial was a bath file and an .EXE.
I don't think so but I could be wrong.

i could be wrong as well but i believe the signing tool JF made was done in java so it should work on macs.
this thread maybe of some help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3271434#post3271434
I've edited images in a "drawable" file folder and wanted to put it back to my sd card but it won't read the file. Should I put it in a zip file and put it in my sd card or does it have to be convert back to apk file? if so, how would I go about doing this?

You could also try the bettercut application if all you were trying to do was change an icon

[Q] how to extract .apk from a nand backup?

is it possible to extract an .apk file from a nand backup made with Amon_Ra (1.8)?
i switched roms to MIUI and i can't find Volume Button Controller on the market. I've had it on my phone for months and I can't function without it. i've searched online and all i come up with is broken market links and links saying the app has been removed from the market.
it was a free app, that I have on a backup. just dont want to have to backup my current miui setup (in progress), to restore that one, to restore this one again, etc. plus i think knowing how to do this will be useful in the long term.
i'm on Windows XP so I'm restricted to that platform on terms of getting it to work. google search turned up an app called unyaffs but it looked like a linux thing
thanks!
backup what you are on. restore your nand of where you have the apk. and then use titanium backup to backup your app. Restore your latest nand and use titanium to restore the app.

You can also extract files directly from the img files. Install Cygwin with the default options and download unyaffs compiled for windows. Place unyaffs in your path for ease of access, copy the system.img file out of your nand backup and drop it into a folder that is easy to get to. Start Cygwin, cd to the folder the img file is stored, type unyaffs system.img. That will extract all the files from the system.img file. Most of what you need should be in the app folder. Some things will need stuff from the lib folder too, like swype.

thanks for the info.
ended up going the route i didnt want to go. installing cygwin was taking forever!
but now i know for the future
Yeah, Cygwin can take a while if you are on a slow connection or get stuck on a slow mirror.

nandroid.md5 files explore

Hi there,
I have some previous backups (nandroid.md5) files and I would like to explore them in order to retreive some files.
I am looking for a way through mac or win 7. I do not want to restore te back up version.
Any ideas ?
I don't know about files but you can get apps from a nandroid via appextractor
And PLZ!!!!!! QUESTIONS IN THE GENERAL SECTION...... EVEN IF THEY ARE DEV RELATED!!!
The md5 contains only the files' checksum which is used to check if is corrupt or not. You really can't extract any information from them.
The main content lies in the other files.
You can use unyaffs to extract and view the files.
The sd-ext partition is backed up in tar format so you extract it using tar.

Great tool for extracting single files/folders from a nandroid backup without restoring.
It's been very usefully for me.
sorry guys my mistake.
I need to retrieve all camera photos from a backup image.
I just noticed that the md5 file is too small to contain images and I found some .img files.
Is there a way I can extract them straight to my pc and not from the phone?
I find it hard to locate the files through nandroid browser.
Thanks a lot for you help and apologise for the incovenience.

Your camera pictures are saved to the sdcard and not a nandroid backup look in the DCIM folder on your SD card

Black Notes Hybrid problem to extraxt files?

Hello,
thats my first Post here and my English is not so good.
I downloaded the New Black Notes Hybrid but when i want to extract both files with winrar or 7zip it says Hybrid2.part1.rar
crc false at system.ext4.tar.Unexpected end of archive.
I downloaded the both files for a 2 times cause i thought it's about bed download.
What are you think?
I'm already running Kezra's Value Pack.Should i back to stock before i restore this with cwm5?
Thanks a lot.
With the two files you downloaded, put two of them into a new folder. Then open winrar and find the folder you put the two downloaded files into. Now just extract part1.rar and it will automatically extract part2 for you as well. Then copy the backup to your phone and use CWM to restore the backup
Just the same thing.
Hello snwman
it was my Kaspersky internet security.
He clear some data from rar archive.
i disabled him and downloaded again
no problem.
everything right.
thanks
Using Avast, i had the problem that in every custom rom i downloaded probably a root- or systemfile caused a virus-alert and the av software tried to manipulate the folder extracting the potentially infected file out of the zipped container.
Hi,maybe i have the same problem..I'm trying to install the black notes Rom second generation,I've download both 2 parts; and extract the first one in my sdcard with 7zip,but when i try to extract the second part the computer say: error damaged file.. Why?
Anyone know how i can do?

Hello,
disable first your internet security or antivirus program or whatever,
then download both files AGAIN and put into new folder.
then mark and unzip only the part1.rar it would be unzip both files.
then put into cwm/backup folder and restore after fullwipe.
let me know if does work.
hi,thanks now it works

+1 for the idea... I also want a program like winrar which also available in symbian phones.plz any dev note this and develop an app for compressing and decompressing files...
WP will unzip zip files, make the sip, copy to sky drive, open via IE, it will then give you the contents of the zip,, it can't compress files to zip though. Technically there would be little point since docs auto sync to sky drive, and WP doesnt support anything else or file system access, but its doable for unlocked devices I suppose

Hi dazza9075,
Thank you by answer, I had thought that it isn't possible, because I want to compress a folder of other app that her content are a lot of files and folders. So, Do some api exist in order to compress this? Or, Have I upload files and folders one by one?
Thank you again
I think it's completely possible
sombody names Ego zheng, wrote an application. It is program manager.
u can repack your apps, and save apps data in a single .zip file.
i think he can do this
contact him for this idea.

its doable so long as you have interop unlock and WP tools installed and setup
if the Windows Phone SDK is missing Zip functionality (it may be called "DEFLATE" which is the name of the compression algorithm; ZIP is the file format) then there are surely libraries for various compression methods which you could download. Alternatively, if you don't mind using native code homebrew, there are compression libraries (zlib, etc.) that can be compiled to a native DLL, and you could then access them via COM.
i add this to new version of my file manager and now you can compress and decompress file and folders
Hi!
Thanks you by your answer, they have been very useful.
Thanks you
Hi again,
I'm using the lib "SharpZipLib" and I have problems with it. Can you explain how use it? or what is the problema? I probe in a program of pc and it working correctly but in app for my mobile say it crashed when it go to create the file, this is code:
FileStream fsOut = File.Create("Copia.zip"); //here is the problema at this moment
ZipOutputStream zipStream = new ZipOutputStream(fsOut);
zipStream.SetLevel(3);
zipStream.Password = null;
........
It can't create the file.
Thank you again
Generally speaking, Silverlight (which WP7 uses for apps) doesn't even allow normal file access, so you might just be getting a MethodAccessException on File.Create. If not, that still won't work without elevated privileges. The default working directory for a program is it's install directory. For a WP7 app, that's going to be either its install location (\Applications\Install\<GUID>\Install) or the Windows directory where the taskhost.exe file lives (\Windows\). Trying to create a file without specifying full path will crete it relative to the working directory, which in this case means creating it in the working directory directly (no path specified). Since the app can't write to the working directory, you'll get an error from that too.
To get around the permissions error, use the IsolatedStore folder (\Applications\Data\<GUID>\Data\IsolatedStore\) or run the app with full permissions ("Trusted" or root unlocked).
