New HD2 forum section (why?) - About xda-developers.com

Some weeks ago I suggested the separation of themes and apps in two different forum sections for the HD2 but nothing changed...
Now a new "HD2 Q&A" section opens... what is the difference between this new section and the "HD2 General" section?! People would just be confused...
I really think that the separation between themes and apps is more important than general conversation and Q&A...

The Q&A forums have helped tidy up various forums (mainly android based) where a lot of new users are driven to XDA by the new smart phone devices aimed at general consumers instead of tech users - as was the case in the the good ol' days . People are less and less inclined to search and just post for answers. Despite our best efforts they continue to post so we found it's better to give them someone to ask little questions that don't clutter up the other device sub forums. General is for more general problems, maybe HW, maybe opinions on the phone, complaints with carriers, etc.
I can't recall the discussion on seperate Themes and Apps forums in the moderator area, so I can't comment.

IMHO as the OP said, the app and themes are better in a sub forum. I too think that the Q&A section is confusing (may be it should be a sub forum in general forum?)

Yeah, I can see that the Q&A forums can be useful, but they can be a little confusing at first... but that's just a matter of getting used to it, so now that I start to see it with another eyes I thank you guys for that
Regarding the separate Themes and Apps forum I apologise but I think that I created that discussion somewhere inside the HD2 forums so probably it was missed...
But it is still an ideia An example is that there are a lot of people that don't really care for themes, so it is quite hard to check for new apps for the HD2, and vice-versa, because there's a lot of "movement" in that forum...

I like the way you organized it in the image. Maybe some moderators can take a look and consider this? Or other forum organization that you consider better...

A request: Please use the forum properly

Recently, with the diminishing amount of new roms and features, the hermes rom development forum started to be filled by unrelated posts. There are posts about skins, there are posts about dialers, there are posts about cleaning ports
There are already related sub-forums here for these questions. Please, only post rom development related things here. It is getting harder to track development of roms here. And moderators, please move non-development based topics to the general hermes forum.
Just a request to keep things tidy.

Lol you funny man, I agree with the original post however so if we can just search before we post eh ... that's what the search function is for
Agree with OP, using google search, reading the stickys, and using the sub-forums! Or U can contact my xda admin at 007-007-bond

It could be a bit confusing to the newcomer, I could see how they would think: "Hey I have Windows Mobile version 6! This is where I should be!". Not everyone is tech savy
Even though I do see your point, maybe someone could help the mods, and notify them when a post is out of place, and the proper place it should reside.

Each main forum will have 'stickys' and that's where the first place that people tech savvy or not (if you are not willing to read then this place is not for you), raising new issues that had been covered before confuses even the new comers, there is a search function that one can use for most of the questions asked.

I agree! I have been here about 6 months now, and have read literally thousands upon thousands of threads/posts, and I'm just now posting a bit (this post should be about #20). Tons of great information, I love it, but I am an operating system junkie.
I was just trying to point out, that in today's 'gimme now' society, I can see where people get frustrated and post away, but, I do customer service for a living, have been seeing it for a long time and getting used to reading into where people are coming from.
Too bad googling for google doesn't help!
I hear your point but have to say that questions asked here do get a lot more looks and I never felt like this specific forums traffic is too bogged to navigate thru, and nowadays it's the only one i am active in somewhat regularly
check out the "How to Ask Questions..." link in my sig... kind of old, but still relevant
Hi.
I'm a n00b and I'm getting annoyed at the irrelevant posts in this forum!
Mods, let's clear out the irrelevant stuff and keep to what this forum is about, WM6 Roms and all the cooking going on by the talented chefs out there!
Search. Search again and if you don't find then post in the relevant forum!
my 2p worth!
I understand this, and I totally agree.
But I have tried using the search option, and it just resets the search fields, it never searches for anything. Only sometimes the search function work.
Instead of using the xda-developers search engine, I have to reside google to find on xda-developers instead, that always works, but I would prefer to use XDA's one, as it had the posts, date, author, topics, everything more detailed, and when it has worked, I have gotten the answers I need.

Can i talk to a mod?

Whos a moderator or deals with the organization of the threads? Because i think we need to add an android section to multiple devices, the kaiser the vogue, diamond, touch pro, touch hd. Is there any way to keep noobs from posting stuff in forums that doesnt even relate to whats going on in said thread? Or does someone have to delete the useless stuff like people just posting to tell other people not to post about nothing?

The sub-forums are all there, if someone posts in the wrong section, simply point them in the right direction.
What you have said is the general idea of what happens here.
its not even that people just want to say oh dude i cant wait for android and then some other person will be like thats not important and people just get totally off topic. theres like 1500 post in the form or more and less than a quater are actually information on the development and whats going on... also maybe aswell as having a rom development subsection their could be a linux development section rather than just an android section cause its totally possible to boot debian or some distro of linux on these handsets.
All the moderators have their user names marked in red and have 'Moderator' appear under it (as you have 'Junior Member').
Also you can look here to see which mod you should talk to regarding specific forums.
(This list is mostly a suggestion and may be incomplete, if you can't get an answer from a mod of a specific sub forum, or the sub forum does not have a mod you can contact any moderator)
Please note that if you have a problem with a post or a thread you can use the 'report' button (with the ! sign) to report it and we will take care of it.
Also if you have a suggestion you are welcome to post in the 'About' section.
And to answer your question: there is no way to keep noobs from posting the wrong stuff or in the wrong place. Mistakes are part of being new to something.
If you see a thread you think is just clutter or out of place you can help by reporting it.

Postcount limit in developmental fora

We have been getting lots of questions about the postcount limit in developmental area's. Most of these questions were along these lines:
What do I have to do to be able to ask a question in the developmental fora?
How many posts do I have to have before I can post in the developmental fora?
Does this mean you want users to start spamming?
Why are you judging users based on their postcount (I have been a long time user on other fora, e.g. I know the ropes)?
There are a few common misunderstandings about the developmental fora I want to address before I dive further into the subject.
Common misunderstandings: (not true)
Developmental fora are for asking questions
It's been said so many times before and I'll say it again, developmental fora are there to release your own creations. Applications, kernels and kitchens all belong there. Guides and tutorials are usually allowed but by definition do not belong there. Everything else does NOT belong there (questions (NOT about development either), news, links to someone else's development). Basically, if you did not create "it", then doesn't belong in development.
How many posts?
10.
You are encouraging members to spam!
No we are not. This is meant for users to take some time to get acquainted with the idiosyncrasies, the rules and the ideology of the site. Spamming is not allowed as per rule 7: Do not spam. Doing so will get you infracted and your posts will be deleted, leaving you worse off than before.
Why are you judging members by their post count?
For lack of a better alternative. I challenge anyone to come up with a better alternative, and share it with us. Over the years we have seen the impact the cluttering up of developmental fora had on the amount of energy needed to keep threads in shape or visible. This wasn't productive at all. We get that people might have experience from other fora and think this is a little over the top for them, but there are rarely any developers amongst the people that want to create new threads. There are a few people with a genuine need to post a thread in the developmental fora (developers), these people can contact a moderator to help them get sorted.
12's tutorial on how to get your postcount above 10:
Keep in mind that only people we the genuine intent to post one of their developmental projects or with a (well explained) bug report NEED a postcount above 10. Nonetheless I'll give you some guidelines on how to achieve this goal in a community accepted way:

Read this thread
Read the
stickies in Questions and Answers, ask a question there about the site or anything general should anything be unclear to you
Try to answer 2 or 3 questions there
Read the

If you have any news on the device post it in general
If you have any questions about a hack, app, ROM or theme pop into that thread and ask a question or leave a message
Check out your device specific Questions and Answers (if it has one, otherwise check out General). With everything you have learned so far you should well be able to help a few more people there.
Tip! When working with people on a forum try to be understanding. Messages aren't always as clear to others as they might be to you (think of language and knowledge barriers). You might have to explain it once more to get the point across.

Htc clocks running 10 min fast?

Anyone having time issues with there devices? Today found that my phone was 10 min fast, had to revert in settings on date and time, I have gingersense B3 2.3.3.
I read some where that this is going on over the pond also, whats your thoughts??
It has nothing to do with gingersense it happened to my wife's non rooted stock incredible.
yeah the other day mine was running 7 minutes too fast. A reset will fix it but it was odd I am running the leaked gingerbread
Its actually a world-wide issue. From the US to the UK.
I just turned off my automatic clock sync and switched to manual until we figure out whats happening.
I just went to settings (clock) and switched to manual then back to automatic and it fixed itself.

First thought is that the ten post threshold may be too low because someone posted something so utterly off topic in the dev forum.
The reason why people post questions in the DEV section is because if the question is relevant to developing ie HOW TO DO THIS.. OR THAT OR WHAT KERNEL RUNS BEST.. etc who better to ask than the developers. Why would someone go post a technical question about something in a generic question and answer section when no one with any knowledge will answer the question. Basically you people who have nothing better to do than NAZI a forum need to go put a D*&K in your mouth. Next time my car breaks down Ill go take it my drycleaners!

The clown who posted the picture proves my point. Sure devs can read the q @ a - How many really do - My drycleaner can also look at my car and try to fix it - Doesnt mean he is the person I want working on my car. Point being either answer the question with an inteligent answer or dont bother what is the point of being a forum nazi.

We are blessed to have this place to learn about our devices and have access to the work of all of the great developers. The least we can do is fallow the rules and respect the developers. Maybe some of us haven't read the rules, here's a good post from the last moderator of our forum on why we keep questions out of the development section and here's the general forum rules which plainly states that we should watch our language and respect other members. Thanks everyone for contributing to such an amazing community

Restructuring XDA forums

There are a few issues I see with XDA that need quick attention:
1. Posting a new threadIdeally, the 'Post Thread' button should be available universally, and user must choose the appropriate forum (and sub-forum) before the button gets activated for posting.
Currently, one has to 'search' to find forums and sub-forums, which itself isn't intuitive. This is more like Apple's way of implementing some of their things. This being the world of Android, we should stick with the simpler and intuitive approach.
Alternatively, there should be easy and quick access to the following two pages:
General Discussion
forum.xda-developers.com
Android Development and Hacking
forum.xda-developers.com
2. Sub-Forums by Android version and brandThere is a sub-forum for each device model. I guess this is done so users can find the right files to flash (this being the XDA) for their device. I'm not sure what % of posts on XDA are about flashing stuff.
I would like to think that the number of posts about general topics concerning Android would be far higher than those specific to flashing and modding.
In this regard, it would be nice to have a forum for each version of Android, and then a sub-forum per brand. An issue with a particular version of Android will affect all devices, especially those that are from the same brand. This will make it easy for users to find posts per Android versions and learn about problems that may not have been discussed in the device specific sub-forum.
An example:
When Samsung releases OneUI 6 based on Android 14 later this year, any issues with it would be seen on S23 Ultra, S23 Plus, S23, S22 Ultra, S22 Plus, S22, S21 FE, and a whole lot of devices that get OneUI 6. Same logic applies to all the smartphone brands.
It is far easier to discuss issues related to the OS version in one sub-forum than spread it out over multiple sub-forums, which will also result in many duplicate posts for the same issue. Plus, users watching device specific sub-forums may not be aware of issues on their device if they haven't been discussed in those sub-forums.
3. Filters in Watched section
Just as we have filters in New Posts section, it would be nice to have one in Watched section too.
