Where are the cheapest Desires? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I already have one, and I love it. So does my family, they all want one. I've been asked to search for one for my mother.
I got mine from Clove when it came out for 330, which ended up being roughly $600 Australian, a fantastic deal. I'm just curious to know, after a few months, where people have been getting them and whether they've been cheaper elsewhere.
Also, if possible, where I might find a cheap Silver model for around the same price (it would make it easier to tell the second one apart). All the expansys models end up totaling $700-$800 which is way too much.
Thanks in advance.

checkout Handtec.com, i found their prices to be the lowest, and they ship worldwide!

Ok cool the handtec shop has the phone for a tiny bit less.
How about the silver one? I found one on a European website and I couldn't read the shipping information but the phone was ~$700 AUD. Anyone know of a better price getting around?

I think you mean pdashop.nl and they say that they have an exclusive deal with HTC for that, but I don't think they ship to Australia

as some one who is about to take the plunge and get a TP2 im wondering how people purchased them and what deall they got
if im right they cost £504.85 including vat
best deal to suit me on contract is voda talker £30 + with mobile web
500 mins, 100 text (dont text that much) and unlimited mobile web 18 months @ £34.26 + £616.86
now for that the phone comes with no branding and unlocked, so why just buy it then get a contract is there something i am missing
so whats deals have people gone for and why
thanks for any input
Vodafone 1 year contract, 27.50 € a month, + Unlimited Online Blox
I need to pay 286 extra for the TP2, total is ~650?
Not too bad. Because the the TP2 alone cost 600€. So I can call 200 minutes/400texts a month, for around €50 a year
And I'm getting a free 16gb microSD card from the e-tailer I'm buying it from. Great offer if you ask me.
Best deals I could find
Hi there,
I posted this on a different page but this is probably the best place for it...
I'm currently talking with T-Mobile and they have told me that they will be getting branded handsets in at the end of the week, personally I prefer a sim free version but it looks like it will be possible by next week to buy them on the network with a lovely discounted rate.
Handtec are selling the phones at £502.40 inc VAT
As I'm a fussy git I've managed to wangle an upgrade through Carphone Warehouse so it will be fully unlocked, sadly they dont have them in stock yet so I will have to wait until the end of the week :-(
For anyone who could do with this phone on a new contract on T-Mobile/Vodafone I urge you to check out www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk as they are doing some amazing deals, I couldnt help but drool, I would recommend the Combi 30 + package, £25 for the phone and £35 per month with web and walk thrown in and a shed load of free calls and unlimited texts.
I hope this info is of use to some of you.
UPDATE - I have cancelled my old T-Mobile contract and gone for the Combi 30 + Web 'N' Walk deal on www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk as it seems the best way of getting the phone with a very useful tarriff.
Cheers guys
Terry

Neckermann!
I was doubting if I should buy it there, but thought that it would probally end up in paying 600 for it. As the price is now 599 but it was indeed 440 before.
But it is a pretty sweet deal you got there !

Hi,
I to ordered with neckerman and have a "confirmation" e-mail for the 440eur. I got no mail as to the price being changed or my order being canceled. I however also did not receive any unit yet nor did i get a shipping confirmation.
I'm pretty sure there is no way to hold me to a higher price.. the other way around however..
How / why are you so sure you will get the unit for the " confirmed" price.. there is some small print discaimer for wrong pricing.
I'd be interested to get my order definitively confirmed to...
Cheers

Thre are a lot of people who asked confirmation from neckerman (in a dutch ICT forum: tweakers.net). It seems that all people who have paid already using IDEAL get it for the prize they paid. People who asked a transaction form (accept giro in dutch) still have to pay 600 or get their money back.
The product is available in the Netherlands since today, so I expect to receive it pretty soon
(the fact is: people who used IDEAL closed the buying agreement by paying.)
got mine from MPD
£25 for the phone and a 18month contract with vodafone
£34 500 mins 100 text and unlimited web (which is what i want it for )

i am planning to buy tp2 and saw this but it looks too good to be true. the listing says that it is single camera version. is this a true/original htc touch pro 2?
has anybody seen a new tp2 as cheap as this? the seller has good feedback but still i want to be sure and hence seeking advice here.
Looks OK to me. I bought my TP2 from a UK based ebay shop 6 months or so ago, cost me £170 brand new. Mine is the US T-Mobile version, same or similar as the one in the listing you're looking at. There is no front facing camera on these models, also a few other differences to the EU phones, but they are genuine TP2s. Be aware though that any screen protectors or cases you look for will have to be for the specific model that you are getting, the UK ones will not fit, usually. I found a flip case & screen protectors for mine but had to buy from abroad, took about 6 weeks to arrive. As for the device, I couldn't be happier with it, flashed a custom ROM from this forum & all working 100%. Hope this helps, & if you go ahead with the purchase enjoy your new phone!

are other specifications same as any other tp2?
why would other screen protector not fit? is screen size/shape not the same?
Yes, aside from having no front camera, all other specs are the same. The screen protectors won't fit because the hardware buttons and speaker are different. Also the USB port is moved a little on the carrier specific models I think, so some cases may not fit properly. The T-Mobile version has a different colour scheme and provides access to the SD slot without removing the battery cover.

HTC Desire from China bought on eBay

Does anyone have any experience buying the HTC Desire from China?
I read that the Nexus One has been cloned. I see no official report that the HTC Desire has also been cloned, but I have noticed a lot of suppliers selling the Desire through Alibaba. I am wondering if these are clones too.
Today I bought an HTC Desire off eBay from China which is supposed to be brand new in the box.
It was rediculously cheap - 50-60% cheaper than the cost of an HTC Desire from a US seller.
Now I am worried it's a clone.
I have protection from eBay PayPal so I should be ok, but I am curious to hear what people think.
Also, does anyone know of a program which will read and tell me the hardware specifications of my HTC? I'm looking for one of those apps like Intel provides to give you the model and serial number of your processor on your PC. I figure this is one way of confirming whether I have a real HTC phone when it arrives.
Any link to the eBay auction?
The "clones" of these high end cellphones in China are pretty fake. They resemble the real ones, but one can easily tell the difference. They definitely don't run android, and run some variation of Linux that is skinned to look like iPhone/WinMo/Android.
Once you have it in hand, it would be very obvious to you whether it is fake, either from the hardware or from the software, so there is no need to use any software to check the hardware specification.
There is no Nexus One/Desire clones that runs real Android or equipped with Snapdragon. Again, if it is a fake, it will be VERY obvious.
Thanks for your reply.
Here is the link.
I will ask the seller to send me pics he took instead of the ones he copied.

Judging from the fact that the image is just ripped from some blog site and not even an HTC press release shot, combined with the sellers score: 0. So no sales or even any buys to the account...
I would be very surprised if this guy has even seen a Desire in person, forget you receiving one in the mail from this seller
Is it really worth the trouble?
I can tell you with no doubt, its a fake one! Because even in China, you won't get a real 2nd hand desire at that price.

This alone does not convince me.
When I sell items, I am lazy and rip images and descriptions from other listing.
However, add this to the fact that the seller has no scores...so maybe.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Are you serious when you said you bought it? HTC desire for 170 unlocked..really?
Where I live, I can barely get a dumbphone unlocked for that money.
Well, the picture was taken from some blog and the spec were copied from HTC website. That page alone can't tell whether the phone is real or not.
But as I said before, those Chinese clones of high end phones look really fake, and those Chinese sellers are not trying to scam people into believe that they are real. There is a market for cheap look-alike phones in China, and that market is what those "clones" are for.
People, the $170 final price is the result of an AUCTION, not a buy-it-now price. My bet is that this phone is real, but the fact that the seller is from China, together with the fact that he has 0 feedback, making no one wanted to bid on it. I highly doubt that he will ship you the phone, given how low the final price is. He will probably make up an excuse not to ship you the phone (out of stock, wrong listing, blah blah blah), and then refund you (I you had paid already). If he did ship you the phone, you win. If he shipped you a super fake clone, Paypal will get your money back. The only thing you will lose is time.
I took a chance on a simular "deal" for a HD2 and I was sent a small pink noname brand(actually works, my woman loves it) and a FAKE Iphone 3G. Get you paypal refund info ready.

I had the same thoughts.
I will see what I do.
I have not paid yet and can back out if I like by cancelling my transaction before payment.
I emailed the seller and asked for real pictures, why he is selling, what the serial number is, etc. I will see if he answers.
Unfortunately the seller's English is pretty bad so communicating is difficult.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
HTC doesn't sell cellphones in China offically
ebay buyer protection isn't worth ****. I got screwed when buying a PDA a couple years ago. ebay contacted me and told me not to send payment as his account was suspended. Unfortunately, I already had and received a box with a small rock in it which weighed what the PDA should.
I got about $200 back from ebay but I paid the guy $600.
USE YOUR CREDIT CARD AND YOU'LL BE FINE. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY.
Here are my golden rules for ebay, I hope this helps ....
NEVER buy a 'brand new' phone from ebay. You probably wont ever be able to return it, and might not have any kind of warranty.
Never buy anything from a seller with zero feedback. You simply cannot trust them if they do not have any reputation.
Never buy anything from China (unless you are sure about the seller).

0 feedback seller from China...
I bought a while ago a Sony headset from China (was dead cheap so gave it a try), the seller had plenty of feedback and I eventually got the headphones. They looked so good, very real. But the sound... was worse than the cheapest pound store ones!! Funny thing is the seller disapperaed from Ebay straight after the paypal payment... no refund for the fakes. I def learned my lesson.
I have seen a lot of this fake seller in china, all of them have 0 feedback or some fake feedbacks. Usually the sell all phones they can in a short period of time, and after that you get nothing and they will delete their ebay account.
I hope this one is not like it
It's one of either two things.
You got scammed and will be sent nothing (Which is what i'm expecting)
Or
You're going to be sent a very very bad nexus one clone.

USB Jig On eBay

Sorry for starting yet another thread on this but i finally got around to buying one and it was very cheap, in fact the postage from Hong Kong to Ireland would probably be more than what i paid for it, has anyone purchased from this seller before on eBay, looks fine from the feedback but unless they are making these jigs for pretty much nothing im wondering how they can be making any profit?

I got one from the very same seller last week, off ebay.co.uk. It took about 8 days after shipping to get to southern England. It's definitely not handmade, and it works. As you say, you can't go wrong at that price.

I would think so. I guess it might go via London rather than direct to Dublin, but that shouldn't add more than a day. Also depends if Irish Customs take an interest in it - I don't think mine was opened by UK Customs, but when they do inspect something it adds a bit of delay in my experience. I think you'd have to be a bit unlucky for that to happen though.

Reputable sellers to US buyers

Hey guys I just cant make the idea of the 16GB XL work for me and I want to order the One X 32GB. Can anyone tell me some reputable sellers?? I have been told to many horror stories about importing phones . Any tricks to get this working on ATT I should be aware of?

I'd go with Handtec or Clove in the UK. Expansys and Negri have been shipping Malaysian phones. Handtec actually delivers overnight where "express" from Expansys can take almost a week.
Was looking at Intergron Technology website as they have it for a bit cheaper. BBB check on them doesnt look bad. $599 is there price but what about warranty doing it this way? Is this a grey market purchase doing it this way will HTC honor the warranty?

Good questions. It's grey market by definition because it's being sold outside of the country/region of intended sale. I'm guessing Expansys is an authorized reseller but I don't know about the others. Samsung is insanely strict about grey market warranty support, I don't know about HTC. Phones purchased in the UK all come with a two year warranty. I don't know about Asia. Sorry for questions instead of answers. Maybe someone with more HTC experience knows more.
Well I can wait til some more folks throw in their 2 cents. I just wish HTC would have offered a 32gb XL or just put the SD slot on then this wouldnt be an issue.

Have you used an imported phone before? In addition to warranty questions there's also the fact you can't buy carrier insurance for it. I'd strongly suggest a SquareTrade warranty. They insure grey market phones and cover ADH should anything happen to it. It's about $95 for two years with a $99 deductible and they cover up to price you paid for the phone. There's some 30% off coupons on the Prime forum's front page to get to that $95. It's also transferable and adds a lot of value if you want to eBay or CL later.

Malaysian phones are just like every other phone. the only thing that might bother some is that the update took a few more days to get sent out. there's no good reason to pay more than you have to, but that's my opinion. mine was 619 with 5 day UPS.
the only warranty you can get for the X that i know of is Squaretrade. i've never had a phone go bad before i was done with it so i'm not getting one.
Yeah XL is bogus and LTE is not everywhere. Better development for Tegra as you can see. Plus you don't need a smartphone data plan so the phone will pay for itself. Unlimited data is 15 bucks, so your saving 15 a month.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Yeah I am on unlimited but not in an area that will see LTE in this decade lol. So thats why I am looking at the 32Gb version. 16 just wont cut it.
Newegg has it for 619 right now. I think I will be getting it there. Anyone else bought a phone from Newegg. I am concerned about there return policy. 30 Days for refund and 90 for replacement.
I bought mine from expansys. The phone shipped the same day I ordered it and got to my home in Arizona 2 days later. That was with their free shipping. I am very happy with them. I also received a flawless phone. Having zero issues here. This was my first time buying from them however I will gladly buy from them in the future.

[Q] Htc M8 on Amazon

Currently, an unlocked htc m8 is available in Amazon for 670 dollars. It's 30 dollars cheaper than the original price. Why is that? I'm a little scared to buy it because I have read in the reviews that they received a 16gb version not the 32gb. I just don't want trouble like returning the phone or something.

I have the 32gb from T-Mobile. First of all in my opinion all of the phones in the One family are the best most professional and elegant Android devices on the market today. I view them as cool Android devices for adults.
As far Amazon and getting a phone from there. I got two from them when I was on Sprint. They were both upgrades and Amazon only charged $.01 for each when Sprint was charging at least $50 for the upgrades. They got here in 2 days. It was a fabulous experience.

I think your most telling comment were the reviews. The fact people aren't getting what they paid for. Remember $670 for a 32gb might be a good deal. Same price for a 16gb isn't

Amazon is high volume, and they can afford to cut prices by not having a brick and mortar stores. Plus their logistics (delivery network) are unmatched. All of this means they can pretty much undercut most the competition on price (and therefore attract higher sales volume), and still make enough profit to be successful.
The purchase is direct from Amazon, correct (and not a 3rd party vendor that sells on Amazon as a portal)? If its the same listing I am looking at, it is. Amazon is really reliable. But mistakes just get made once in a while.
Merchandise returns are extremely easy on Amazon, in the event you end up having to do one. They give you a UPS label to print out, just slap it on the box it shipped in and seal the box, and take it to a UPS store (or you can probably call for UPS pickup). Since it was their mistake, they pay for shipping. When they made a mistake for something my wife ordered, they made it right by shipping the replacement overnight at no cost. Even when its a mistake I made (ordered some electrical part that were the wrong color) the return shipping was only about $2.
