"HTC News" Folder on card - WTF? - Desire General

Hi All,
Why does a folder called HTC news, c/w with many thumbnail pictures of HTC products keep restoring itself to my datacard, despite me deleting it? I delete, it comes back. I delete it, it comes back.
Do you have this folder on your card? Can you delete it?

It's probably the image directory for the News app/widget. (btw, it's .htcnews on my Desire)

Yes Yes YEs
sorry my friend, i'm out of ideas. maybe try getting creative with it. (if you haven't already) like photos, pic, pix..ext.
the folder called my pictures, has to be outside of the documents folder in your storage card, on its own, for it to be visible, like you want it.

Desire wallpaper

Where do you store it to use? I've copied the same file into the root of my SD card, into the media folder and into the folder where photos are and it won't find it anywhere...
and I do have a thread in the Theme/App forum but not many answers...
it should be in the DCIM ...
I put mine there 960x800 JPG and it works.
Only way I've had it recognise a custom wallpaper is to name it like a photo (e.g. IMAG0002) and put it in the same folder as photos...weird...
I dont think you need to set the name like that.
I set mine to "black.jpg" and I have no problem with using it as wallpaper.

Mine finds all my music album images too, so shouldnt matter what you call it.
well, mine only saw it if renamed as above so any suggestions as to what might be wrong? sd card in use (not tried another one yet - using 16GB SanDisk card atm)
If I check using file manager (EStrong) app, mine is located here:
/sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA/black.jpg
Size is 960x800.
16GB micro-sd card, but dont know the brand.
yep, thats where mine is but named as a photo, not what it was called originally...take it you're on 1.15.405.4?
Yes, 1.15.405.4.
Bought in NL, unlocked.

Weird...
I've created a new folder on the root of the SD called 'Photo's' where i've transferred across some of my shots.
This folder clearly shows up when i browse my photo app and then i can simply add them as a wallpaper. It automatically updated itself.
.... if you want them to be displayed amongst the rest of the wallpapers, i have no idea how to do that.
So far I've put the JPG on the root of my SD card, in a photos folder, in the same folder as the other photos and in the media folder and the ONLY way I've had it show up is to rename it as a photo taken with the phone - must be a software issue...
Now, I got this problem too!
I cannot use custom image as wallpaper
I put in the "DCIM" folder, but it does not recognized.
I renamed to IMAGE0011.jpg, it still does not recognized.
Anyone know a 100% way to use an image for wallpaper?
I think it only depends on what 'file explorer' you use when choosing the wallpaper. At least on mine I have the Gallery installed and using that I can choose any image...
I experiencedproblem when I downloadedd pictures (and wallpapers) via FTP. Had to reboot my phone in order to see them in the album. Another way is to connect the phone to the computer and then disconnect, then it refreshed the albums and you can set the wallpaper.
But I would like to be able to select a wallpaper among the original wallpapers.
Thanks!
That was the workaround.
Before that, I tried to kill the "Photo" (album) application and it did not refresh.
Certainly, the Photo app is buggy.

Oh btw, I transferred those images from share folder (LAN), WiFi, using EStrongs file manager.
I think this is the problem? Strange, because the "Camera" app recognized the images without any problem.

How do you hide folders from HTC Album?

I tried making the folders hidden by adding a period, but it's still read by HTC Album. How do I get around this? Is there any tweak to change the read permission on folders?
Luckily I discovered this problem myself.
create a file named ".nomedia" and put it in the folders you don't want the media player to show.
Windows will not let you create such a file, so create an empty text file named "a.nomedia", copy in the folders, then using Astro rename it deleting the "a" and you're good to go

I have read elsewere that this method can erase the files in that particular folder. I'm not sure when or why it does it but watch out!!
Dodgy pics of the missus eh? Say no more.
I just moved a picture into a folder starting with a fullstop and it's not showing up in the gallery anymore. Are you running the HTC photo gallery or the Cooliris Gallery app?
[EDIT] I also just added a fullstop to the front of a folder on my SD card (/media/wallpapers became /media/.wallpapers) and it's no longer showing in the gallery.
Seems to work. Thanks!

It's the HTC one. The widget doesn't display hidden folders, but when you list all media (where the app searches for pics and vids), it shows.
my (well, it's not mine of course ) method doesn't delete anything. Or at least I'm doing so in almost three cells and since... hmmmm let's say 6 months.
as for putting a dot in front of the folders... keep in mind that it can cause probs to the apps using that folder.
I.E. a GPS app will not find its icons and so on.
Just use the file methid, I'm pretty sure it's safe

I created the wallpapers folder so no apps should be using it.
Adding a .nomedia file worked for me, but only after a reboot. No more album art showing up.

you are right:
h_t_t_p://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3692
Forget what I said. It doesn't work. I rebooted the phone, effectively refreshing the album cache, and .nomedia is listed when it searches for photos and videos.

At first i read this as doggy pics, which sounded gnarly.

What does "adding a full stop" mean?
And why is windows referenced above, vs android OS?
I just downloaded Pandora which essentially does the job.
Android is a Linux based OS. A folder with a period in front of it means its hidden to any app that doesn't directly know its there

And then I realised the .nomedia meant music players ignore the folder too. Doh!
I just do the full stop method and use astro file manager to view the items.

[Q] Remove images from Stock Gallery Widget

Hello there everyone,
My girlfriend's run into a very interesting problem. She has an Experia Arc S and uses the stock gallery widget to scroll through her images on her phone. Now, she's not one to delete pictures, but she's recently deleted one of a person she had a bad falling out with. However, here's where it gets interesting.
The image is gone from the gallery. However, there's still a tumbnail on the widget.
From this, I conclude that the widget generates its own thumbnails somewhere and stores them and they don't get deleted (or, if they do, they sometimes don't). My question, thus, is pretty obvious:
How do I get rid of that thumbnail in her widget scroll-through-gallery?
Thank you guys for your help. She'll certainly be eternally grateful.
try deleting .thumbnails folder inside dcim in sdcard
you have a q & a forum, by the way...

I'm sorry, I didn't find that forum. The general layout of XDA confuses me somewhat, to be honest. I apologize. But thank you very much for your reply. I greatly appreciate all the help I can get.
Either way, I've looked into the .thumbnails folder and it's not there either. So I gather that this widget somewhere has its own folder and does its own thumbnails... which, if its on the phone memory, might explain why her phone's always low on memory.
have you tried re-adding the widget?
delete the current one on home screen, and then add it back.
Failing above reply, delete thumbs.db in dcim/andro100 folder or go to settings and wipe data of gallery app.

That's typical unless you're rooted and using a file manager that supports root. Go to Android, data and you'll see a little bit more.
Edit, if it's a Verizon device you want be able to root.
Okay, so I need the google version of the phone ? I don't believe I rooted the moto x pure I have, does it come that way ?

I'm not sure how the Moto comes. But on the PC you'll never see more than what your see in that screen shot with the pixel. You will be able to see more on your device if rooted and using a file manager like root explorer. What are you trying to see?
I'm trying to see WhatsApp folder and photos app folder. Want to move all my WhatsApp content to new phone and I want to keep my folders for pics. I moved the pics in albums to dcim folder but when I open photos app they are all lumped together

Do you use Google to backup your Moto? You should be able to restore your apps and data from there when setting up a new device.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I do not backup to google. Only thing that is is contacts. New device is more or less setup except for those 2 items.
How would I go about making a folder/album for photos while connected to the computer so that I do not have to do it on the phone.
