Hello, Thanks, And Wallpaper - About xda-developers.com

Hi all of the great people here on xda-devs.
First i'd like to say a big thankyou to the large number of informative posters here especially mskip.
I've always been a symbian s60 user myself, as I had an old hp ipaq (wm5) and it always seemed slow and unresponsive, so as soon as I moved from dumb to smart phones, I went for nokias e-series, which work well but are fairly uncustomisable.
Having browsed these forums for a while, I decided to buy a winmo device to mess about with.
I brought a second hand tytn ii today, and it seems to be in great condition for 70 quid.
I've had great fun tonight playing with different roms and such, with intent to trying android in the future.
Lastly, I put together a quick wallpaper (1024x768) to keep me ocupied during the flashing.
It isn't anything great but it was made soley in MS Paint, and as I'm on a pretty old laptop the screen is not too good, but I attached it anyway ( plus inside zip because of image size rules)
Thanks again.

Welcome to forums
Nice 1st post

Gratitude and Respect :)

JASJAM, Kyphur, LVSW, TripleDes, WPbear and all the others who have combined efforts to produce an amazing set of files which make our devices what they should be to begin with; Thank you so much for all of your hard work.
I have long surfed these forums and can honestly say I would probably not like my Cingular 8525 nearly as much without all of the useful information and upgrades that all of you have provided.
Like many of you there have been a lot of sleepless nights this last week. I have flashed nearly a 2 dozen times and have finally settled on, Jasjam's WMVI Black Edition, with Radio 1.34. I can't believe how smooth and solid and fast my 8525 is now (Not to mention beautiful). I for one, and I think the community at large, owe you guys all big props and respect.

05 APRIL 2007:
Well, I have been sitting here most of the morning reading all of the chaos and hubbub over Black 2.0 and it's decommissioning, and I realize how torn I am.
I was very lucky that after a few days away from the boards that I happened to come back on Tuesday and was actually able to download Black 2.0 before things got crazy. Of course I immediately installed it. It is quite literally PERFECT in my estimation. It installed quickly and Flawlessly and has been Lightning-Fast and Rock-Solid since then. I didn't think it could get any better than it did when I got Black 1.2. I was so ecstatic! I immediately ran to paypal and pumped $15 into your wife's shoe fund, JasJamming. (Us shoe loving women gotta stick together! Yes there are indeed a few of us women hanging around the techie boys.) I have spent the past 2 days literally bouncing off the walls with joy over my now, nearly, Perfect Cingular 8525.
To my shock when I popped in this morning, just to see how everything was going, I saw the horrible news. Though I honestly don't see why there are so many redundant questions on the board, it's not my place to question it either. I simply enjoy looking and learning from all of the other great minds across the world. True Globalization at its finest. How sad it is that in an age when everyone can literally find out anything if they choose, most prefer to simply sit back and let other people do it for them.
Here is where I am torn. On the one hand I understand the frustration you and the other Chefs must feel, Jasjamming. It must be absolutely infuriating to spend so much hard work and a ton of time doing something you really enjoy doing and offering your work up for FREE public consumption, only to then be treated as though you just unleashed the plague. So I can see why you choose to not continue the public advancement of your Black VI build for the Hermes.
On the other side of the coin however, I have found your work to be truly addicting and amazing and am thoroughly annoyed and frustrated that I will no longer be able to have your input and foundations upon which to build my perfect Phone. Truly heartbreaking indeed.
I do hope that one day things settle back down enough that people can once again use theses forums in the spirit they were intended and fun can continue to reign supreme for those who enjoy modding their phones.
In the end, after venting all of this on my keyboard, I realize that it is of course your right and your decision to pull support for Black VI. But I am sad, and your contributions will be sorely missed. I am not sure of the exchange rate between the US and Australia but I hope my little drop in the bucket does get your wife a cute new pair of shoes and that you can still sneak in a cold one with my thanks.
Thank you.

Thanks for your comments melanie,
its comments like this that make it all worth while; people enjoy the contributions.
Welcome to the community...
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't sleeping lately .
Congrats on your having the patience to read and study before simply diving into the deep end.
I want to say thank you to all our Rom Chefs as well. I just want to run through the streets skipping and singing.
You guys are so awesome. One day we're wondering if we'll have roms at all, the next day we have WM6, the day after that 5 versions....
How sweet it is......
Agree!
Yes, I have been a long time XDA user, started with a Blue Angel, then went to a Wizard and how I have the Hermes. On all of them, without exception, these forums and the Dev's that make them worthwhile have been essential to me in order to get the most from these devices. My latest device, the Hermes, had HORRIBLE battery life out of the box from Cingular, I'm talking less than a day on normal to light use. After upgrading to first Kyphur's WM6 and now LVSW's WM6 and going to 1.34 radio; my battery lasts about as long as my Wizard's did. Thanks fellas, nice work, you all make our devices what they should be.
@kyphur,
Congrats on your soon purchase and I hope all goes well (watchout for last minute changes or details). My heart was hanging until I got the keys, walked out of the lawyer's office, and got in my car. Moving was crazy but not stressfull. Good luck with everything and looking forward to .30.
am on xda live 2.0 now, wanted to try the others but the new xdalive start up screen's so beautiful... haha
Thank you to everyone who has made running Windows Mobile 6 possible. I have been a lurker on here for a while, but just recently signed up.
With all of the great information on here I managed to update my Radio and my OS with no trouble at all.
Thanks again guys.

although it may seem boring for other readers, I MUST say, as well, thank you from all my heart, not only for allowing us to uncover the inner beauty of these devices, but as well for the opportunity to spend time with you gyus, by reading the forum and trying all the different combinations, softwares, aso.
Its becoming addictive, and for that, Thank You!

I want to thank you guys also. Your sleepless nights, genuine brilliance and talent are really appreciated by me and I'm sure many many others.
I've got to add my thanks to everyone for the hard work, great forum etc...
And to EVERYONE, if you're getting as much out of this forum as I am how about a small donation - either to the gurus direct or to the xda-dev site. Someone out there is paying for our privelege of a 'free' forum.

I to thank all the rom cooks. I have tried all the wm6 releases currently on black 2.0. It's a same that such talent has to deal with all the drama. Looking forward to the next flash.
@excessdivide
Jas will be back... things have gotten better, and you havent noticed the redundant posts due to some heavy house cleaning that i have been doing.. things are looking better than just a few days ago.. so just sit tight and enjoy the ride!
I'm also new to the forum, found it days after getting my 8525 and it saved me from having to return it. I've been completely fasinated every day with the tweaks and enhancements that continue to roll out. That and the occasional f**kwit floggings delt out keep me comming back for more.
People will plunk down $100 for a Nav prog, $20-50 for any number of simple commercial apps. So dig deep folks into your hearts, if you like this forum and take more from it than you can give (like me, I'm a hardware guy, no programmer), please pop some "buckage" to the Chefs and the Forum. I shot some $$ to JJ for Black2 simply out of respect, this weekend I'll flash to it and if it's as good as I've been reading, I'll be sending what I feel an op system is worth.
I thank all of you for simply taking the time to document what you do, so others like me can share in your world.
shogunmark,
Thank you. I feel I should tell you, it was actually your name that first came up on Google many months ago when I started looking for help with my Cingular 8525. I don't honestly remember the problem which sent me searching but I do remember the advice you posted was dead on and very helpful and had me back up and running in an instant. In essence, you were the one who got me addicted to the crack which is XDA-Developers! LOL!
But again, I do want you and all of the other advanced users to know how much your advice and input is appreciated. If I could, I would donate to all of you guys and fund your efforts completely. Alas, it is not my lot in life to be independently wealthy, so my adoration must suffice.
Many Thanks,
Melanie

Wow, I thought I was the only one! It's good to know other women are interested in modding their phones as well. I have been coming into these forums daily and have really enjoyed reading about all the new updates and tricks and tips. I feel the same way as you about appreciating the rom chefs and other contributors and feel the frustration also of everything else that has been going on here. I can see the housecleaning has been going very well too and that some tempers have settled down and things may be getting back to a more normal environment.
Thanks to all the rom cookers and those that made upgrading much safer and easier.
YAY PhonePhun! I'm not alone! Hahaha! I'm glad to see you around!
I am often teased 'cause I would just as easliy splurge on a pair of Louboutin's as I would an $800 phone!
Anyway, glad to meet ya'!
Cheers!

Funny you should say that since he was also the one who got me to come in here with more interest than I had before that point. For me he had said some really decent stuff on another forum and I wanted to see what more really decent things he had to say here LOL, nice meeting you too! Oh, and I know what you mean by the people around me not understanding why this stuff interests me too.

Cingular 8525 3D Effects 'rom'

I have the 8525 and would love to have the best rom ever especially while this new iphone is coming out. Is there a rom out there that has the best 3D effects for the phone or is someone working on a rom like that. because if we can get are 8525 to have the 3D effects I think that there won't be any phone that can touch ares. the iphone and the new touch phone, that's the only thing '3D effect' they have on us... please let's make everyone know why we are sticking with are 8525's. Thank You!
What the heck please obey forum rules and use the SEARCH FUNCTION
searching forums
I've installed so many ROMS, searched the forums. I know what he means. We've all see the youtube demo of the flashy screen changes. I think I have the perfect rom then its not. Reinstalling new roms and restoring the 50+ apps sucks every time. Yeah, I have SPB backup, but it's worthless on apps with new registry settings.
I've been using modded roms way back on many phones for SEVERAL years. The Iphone will be the best / current phone out. Can't wait till we crack into it. (I know everyone is excited about this.)
I personally use my PDA/phone for business and need everthing to work, and keep on working.
Currently 8525.
I still am craving a true VGA phone with a 850 GSM. The QVGA seems stuck as the main choice.

umm... speak for yourself BigBad... I'm not excited about the iphone at all.. My 8525 does everything it does pluse more. Videos and music? yah we can do that... oh missing the 8gig or whatever? so what, i use orb and have access to my network hard drive in my house which lets me view/listen to 120 gigs of videos/music
The iphone i see it is for consumer whores... Did u see the demo on installed apps through safari? they skip!
i think its a worthless device put together by a briliant team that knows how to suck every penny out of mr. and mrs. average joe!
And NO i am not one of those apple hating windows hard core freaks. I'm currently writing this on my macbook with my hermes connected to windows xp which is running on my macbook through parallels.... i have the best of both worlds and don't see an iphone entering mine anytime soon!
The Iphone

i'm so sorry being a noob, but honestly i searched and searched every where but i can not find a rom with 3D effects. Maybe you guys are miss understanding me on this...i know they have the rom that has the touch rom and iphone rom 'look a like' but it does not do what the touch htc and iphone does like when the screen turns around and things like that. the only reason i wrote this post was maybe someone can at lease point me in the right place...i currently have black 3.0 and love it.... again i search every where everyday and that's why decided to do this post. don't get me wrong i love everybody's hard work on the roms they do that is amazing, so i'm not dissing anyone...i just wanted the 8525 to be the best that it can be and hopefully have a lot of 3D effects.....SORRY

TouchFlo on Hermes
I Phone not up to Par
The i-phone device thing is inferior in many ways. The only thing it has on the Hermes is that it looks really cute and colorful. The processor on it is only 300 mhz, why go backwards, only 2g. Connectivity-wise not even, please. But again it is cute looking.
My theory...
You know, what if posts like this current thread
as well as posts like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313701
and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313455
are actually people working for MS trying to piss off the chefs enough so that they will stop sharing their ROMs? Just a thought.
Hate to bring life to a dead thread...but will the hermes ever support touchflo? Is it a hardware limitation?

In the Wizard forum we have gotten a hold of a working wizard rom with touch flo working in it. Ie the cube application with touch spinning it along with the scrolling feature. So I would assume it won't be long before this is ported to the hermes and many other devices...
well if it has already been tested on the hermes where can we download it?

Custel . . . RELEASE IT!! Please i beg of you. I don't even care if its a choppy version. I just want to messa round with it for a while. I love upgrading my OS andRadio, ETC . . but I would like a new style of navigation. Wisbar leaks memory way to fast, and the Iphone themes just well . . . suck! Please, throw up a cab for us to try out!

3 Michelin stars to the cooks of this forum!

I just thought I'd take a moment (one previously spent fiddling with my phone) to say well done and thank you to both Tom_Codon and meschle. Which ever flavour of ROM you've decided to put on your device I'm sure you'll agree that it has breathed new life into it.
I for one feel as if I just got a new phone. I haven't soft reset since Friday (which is a shame as I do like my animated splash screens), all my apps are set up, my home screen is just the way I like it....... so what do I do now?
Congratulations guys your efforts are much appreciated and I for one look forward to finding something more constructive to do with my time than hard-resetting my phone (well for a week or two anyway).
Cheers
Matt
I totally agree with you!
It's really amazing what these guys have created.. I don't know what would make my phone better than now. It's nearly perfect, just as I need it as my constant companion.
In this way, thanks mates..
lets be careful though
.....come on guys, I know the likes of Tom and Meschle are fantastic guys - with a lot of skill....but lets not make their heads TOO big....lol
If we big them up too much HTC might hear about them and take them away from us

I think Tom and many other cooks etc are well able to beef up the skills in HTC etc, but would not last long there.
Tom likes to produce new roms every month, but will be told 'that feature you just cooked is fantastic. We can sell that as the the new feature in next years model. We dont release new features unless we can sell them with hardware'

Well, I only know this forum for 2 weeks, but I could say that I am really impressed of the great work done on these ROMs.
I can't imagine the amount of work it is, but for sure the result is amazing
I'd like to put my 2 pennies in as well...
Thanks guys, tom meschle, fracoon and who ever else there is... i've had my xda orbit for a while, had other xda's b4, and work with loads of xda's, but since joining this forum, my xda has hit another level...
the time and effort u guys put in, my hat goes off to u guys... ive bin trying to cook my own rom, but failed miserabley, but i'll keep trying... im sure uguys will help
thanks again guys...
I can see a new MTV show coming soon; Pimp My PPC
Bunch of Cordon Bleu chefs in the kitchen taking some sad old OEM XDA and cooking away until voila! A new pimped-up device handed over to the poor ole charity case that will be able to now proudly be seen once more down the pub with his mates (a position for me I think )
Respect Gents, you make a good product so much better
Thanks to all
I also wish to thank all the people, who make ROMs and which happen to be much better than the original one.
This forum is a knowledge base for those who owns Pocket PCs. At times it is better than the manufacturers' support pages. To those who have created the Cook ROMS, you guys has shown a thing or two of how to make a ROM stable. Keep the good work.
If i can i would give 1000 Stars to the xda forum!!!
Is is the best i personally know and i deeply hope from the bottom of my heart that out friends like tom_condon and coolgadget come back.
There are only a few people kicking at the the forum - and most of us live the right spirit of the forum!!!
I think that it is interesting to buying a htc thanks to this forum because with original roms does not work well. 1000 stars to xda. We have new phones thanks to developers of the forum.
RESPECT
I absolutely agree with macguffin.
I've had tom's bb3.7 and 4.0, and I was totaly amazed! Until I join the xda forum I had my device with slow wm5, but now THANKS TO LOCAL GUYS I have brand new Artemis - I couldn't even imagine anything like this before. Now I have Meschle's ROM(seems better for me). I'm also sad that a lot of "internet newbies"(don't know how to search and ask) comes here but heads up guys...it's everywhere. I think if we stick together we can make this forum better!
Thank to all of you here who spend your nights with pimping our devices. You show me new way of using my phone. I don't wanna call your names because I know there are a lot of members who want to share their knowledge - no matter how they are skilled.
I'm sorry for my english, it probably isn't too good to describe my feelings.

Thanks to the chefs. Also many thanks to the developers who make the tools, which make these ROM's possible, thanks to Bepe, Pof, A_C, Gullum and NNcuong to mention just a few.
i am using B&B v3 Ger - Rom on my XDA orbit
and its much better than the original wm6. i love it!
hopefully soon the ger version of 4.1 will come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its been a while, how is everyone?

Hey all, MAJOR league busy at uni since the last time i was on here.
How is everyone?
Not too bad, just got back myself. How have you been?
Pleased to see the two of you back in active participation... Looking forward to new Guides and Roms...
Things are good - we are mostly in user support / maintenance mode around here. Still some good cooking going on, but the ROMs are so stable it is more like xda-support instead of xda-developers these days.
Good to see you. I have pointed people to your guides so pften recently, I should just make a signature that says it.
Glad to see you are back, I pointed lots of newbies to your guides...
Good to hear from U! Yes we are mostly in support mode around here lately. I point more noobs to your guides than any other. Keep us posted...

I will add my voice to the welcomes on here and also to thank you for a fantastic job on your guides. Have helped me and others over time although they probably need updating in some areas.
On a different note, what courses are you doing at Uni? York is a great part of the world, especially in the summer. Some legendary ghost walks round there and some half decent pubs (ooh yess).
All the best.

i'm a nub, but this forum totally rocks =). i like the people here and i luv all the cooked ROM's. hermes is STILL an awesome phone even after the tilt came out. the 3MP camera on the tilt still doesn't look as good as standalone cameras and you can get a bluetooth GPS antenna for the hermes and it'll STILL be as good as the tilt!!! =).
i really hope HTC implements some of either ATI or NVidia's stuff. i'd love to play some 3D games or somn =).
Like many others, I too have directed others to your excellent guide. After all, that was how I learnt to upgrade my phone. Hope you would continue to update you guide. For example, Vista upgrade is much easier now that WMDC6.1 is out.
How about an updated guide vanx? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344151
You are welcome again. After all that warm words, can we start with a new great step toward improving Hermes telephony: plz have a look at this amazing dialer

This site is AWESOME

Just wanted to say this is the BEST site on the net I know of for everything there is to know about HTC's like my 8125.My first post here was a dumb question that I had.It only took a few minutes to find perfect answer for it.I've only been playing around with upgrading my phone to WM 6 for a few weeks. When I came to this site...That has changed.I want to learn as much as I can about my 8125.I would like to replace the housing myself when I feel that I can do it myself. So that's it...Thanks to all mods and members for tons of info.
LOL
Glad there was already a thread for praise.
I had an Apache for quite a while before I learned just how amazing that phone could be. Now, I'm on to my Titan & am loving it. If I had to use the phone in its stock form, I'd probably hate it. With what I've learned the phone can do, I love it... and what I've learned, I've largely learned here.
XDA-Dev is fabulous.
Thanks to all!!!!
Welcome to Paradise! And of course Happy Flashing to all the new members!!
I Agree
What can I say...
This site is awesome, however I have also found that you get back what you put in.
Still consider myself a relative newbie but working on that thanks to XDA Developers
i've recently read an article about mobile phones and the scene in a local computer magazine and xda-devs was mentioned as the legend, bible, and all those super-uber-extra-mega praises.. ^^
Without Xda-Dev my diamond would be dead (or maybe just sold
Just have to sign up to thank you guys.
I have been five year Palm but had to jump due to a move to 3G Japan.
After two days I was about to smash my Diamond into little pieces, it was so unresponsive compared to my Palm.
Then I stumbled onto this site and was reminded why it is I chose winmobile, despite it being spawned from the beast.
It's because of you guys, the hackers and tweakers, tirelessly tinkering until perfection. If it wasn't for the tweaks and the utlities (like gsen) my diamond would still be a source of frustration than the delight it has become.
Once I get my finances in order I am definitely going to paypal some cash somewhere. I would super keen to donate to anyone making a system font manager, something that can cleanly link and unlink fonts.

This is one great site, it is a wealth of info and has got me on my marry way so I thought i best say thanks before I left
