help partitioning stock sd card - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've reformated the stock 8 gig that comes with the slide to fat32 on my pc and stuck it in my g1 to partition it through the recovery on there. But wen I get into sd parted on the consol it won't recognize the card. Something like mmcblk not recognizable

Assuming you're using AmonRA's recovery, have you tried using the standard auto-format options (ie, not using the console)?
Make sure you formatted the card correctly to begin with. Does your computer recognize it (as fat32)?
Just a few ideas.

Lol correct I am usin amon rah. That's the thing I couldn't get it to write partitions and it wouldn't let me like I was sayin so I did try the auto format. It said it was sucsessful and wen I went back into sdparted on the consol pressed print and it said it had been parted. So I then tried to manually partition my card to my likeing instead of the prestets from the automated version. And it was still unrecognizable. So I was like f it its reading that its parted when I push print so it mus be. So I roote my slide got into clockwork was gunna try wg went to wipe my ext partition to play it safe before I installed wg and it said there was no mountable ext.

please save my desire!

Last night I was trying to partition my sd card and it went wrong. The sd stopped working and after turning off the phone every time I turn the phone on it goes to fastboot. It got the clockworkmod as recovery and if I try to format the sd I get the message: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1) . Is there anything I can do? Ps sorry if this post is poor im sending this from my wifes phone as my home internet is down too!
If your on froyo your SD Card need an ext3 partition to boot the phone
Use clockwork recovery to re partition.

use gparted to partition, just make sure that you have it in this order, fat32 then ext3 then swap(if you decide to use a swap)
I got a very similar problem and still can't solve it. I did partitioned the sd card with Rom manager and then went into recovery, tried to check if it was ex3 (because i read somewhere that rom manager partitions the sd card only with ex2), and then the **** was done. Every time I boot the device it goes into fastboot, so I can't even put some rom on the SD card and try to flash the mobile phone again :S
Any tips, help or whatever? Please.

problem removing partitions

I have app2sd setup and due to some issue (perhaps unrelated) i want to remove it.
i've booted in to recovery and gone in to ADB shell and loaded up parted. when i do a print i see my 3 partitions. i use RM to remove them and i dont get any errors, just dumps back to the prompt. i do a print again and see no change.
I tried using the recover partition tool, but it doesnt work as well. i found a log and its doing the same thing i did by hand.
from recovery i mounted the SD to USB and tried to do it from there as well with disk manager and diskpart. with diskpart i never got any errors deleting, but, it didnt delete. with disk manager i could remove the ext and swap fine but not the fat, i just wasnt given the option.
is there some sort of lock or something im missing?
Its this program for windows i used it formats your sd card. I cant rememb er the name but i googled how to unpartition a micro sd card. Hope that helps a bit.

i wasnt able to find anything that did a full wipe of the SD. just format utilities that work with the already created partitions.
thanks

[Q] Help! partitioning ext3 / installing amonra

Hi all!
As a last resort i'll be asking my question here.
I'm currently running the stock 2.2 rom with root access and clockworkmod recovery. I've had this setup for a long time now. Today i got my 8gb class6 card and i thought i'd change to a Desire HD rom for a change.
So far (5 hours into the process), i've only managed to what seemed the easyest: ..partition my sd card!
I currently have the following:
7gb fat32
1gb ext2
32mb swap
I have tried everything i could find but i simply cannot get this thing to upgrade to ext3 and then ext4. I do not have a card reader at hand so i'll have to do it within the phone.
The problems i'm facing after struggling for 2 hours to get parted working:
- no upgrade_fs script.
- tune2fs giving a unknown command error
I've been playing arround with this for about an hour when i switched to trying to install AmonRA recovery as i read this could upgrade your ext partition aswell. Problems i faced when trying to flash this were:
- unrevoked: internal error, unable to unlock nand.
- flash recovery app: error running command.
- flash_image commands: whole bunch of write errors and in the end a no space left error.
- rom manager: alternate recovery's greyed out, even after countless reinstalls and 'flash clockworkmod first' -tricks.
- fastboot: remote: vertification error.
- terminal app: flash_image not found.
And probably a bunch more i forgot..
I'm thinking of simply installing a RUU and do the whole rooting process again, and then installing amonra. For now i've recovered a clockworkmod backup i made and put back my old sdcard.
I hope there's someone that can help me!
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Use something like gparted or Easus or what ever it's called to partition the SD card.

Done this, but gparted only allows creation of ext2. The problem im having is upgrading it to ext3!
GParted allows to create all kind of EXT partition (including EXT3). Use the latest LIVE CD or USB version. I upgraded my EXT3 to 4 via GParted.

Oh i did not know that, i thought it only allowed up to ext2.
But dont you need a cardreader for that? Because i dont have one at hand right now
No, don't need a card reader. Best way is to boot into recovery and mount the SD Card. You can try via the Disk Drive option, but it gave me wrong readings (since the EXT partition was in use by the system), so not recommended.

Thank you!!!
I feel so stupid for struggling for hours yesterday. Only took me 5 minutes with GParted USB. Running the HD rom now!
I partitioned my SD with Amon Ra then selected ext2 to ext3, but it failed. When I moved the log to the SD card and read it on my PC it said there was no ext. I redid the partition, again with Amon Ra, then selected ext2 to ext3 and it worked. Just figured I'd let people know the ole try again method could work if you get here.

In a couple of weeks, you will be posting about ext not working properly.
Only partition your sd-card with 4ext recovery or Gparted.

Unrecognised SD card after using Win Mini Partition Tool

Hi,
I used Mini Partition Tool in Windows (7) to create a 13 gb FAT32 partition (named PADDYSD) and a 1gb Ext 3 partition (named EXT3).
All seemed well, transfered my backed up contents of the SD card to FAT32 partition, all okay, but when I put the SD card into my Desire it does not recongise it, does not recognise anything; and it doesn't give me an option to mount it.
Has anyone got a idea why? It seems out that I can see the files on laptop, the MPT recognises it and indicates the two partitions, but the Desire won't recognise any of it.
I have been struggling with Gpart Live this morning - no matter what I do I can't seem to make either of my machines boot with the live cd I made from the iso (just hangs after choosing boot from CD). So looks like I am stuck with MPT - but if don't work I dunno what to do.
Cheers
had a similar problem, in the end I had to go into cwm recovery, format the card with ext3 partition so that it would get picked up again.
Try going to cwm, mount sd card then connect it to your PC and see if your PC detects the card
I had similar prob.
Solved it in an unusual way,by inserting the Sdcard in my old Nokia 6120 and formated it there and then made a ext3 partition in w7 via Partition Magic 10.1
Edit : Also,AmonRa recovery has a very good Partition system,i flashed it yesterday, and tried it out, worked perfectly
Hi
When you ceated your partition , you must select primary for the two part ( fat32 and ext ) . I used this tool and i never have problem.
( Recorvery CW 2.5.0.7 )
i had the same problem when i still had the stock ROM, but it didnt continue when i flashed it with Oxygen. i think it is because the stock ROM does not support the extra partition

[Q] Desire Bricked ?

I re-installed Leedroid as i was trying to get apps2sd working on an ext3 fromated sd card and upon reinstalling, it hung at the Telstra Splash screen for about 20 mins. I took the battery out and rebooted into bootloader where it displays that no image can be found on the sd card.
The computer detects the sd card however when i enter recovery mode to install zip from sd card, it displays "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0.... can't mount /sdcard".
What do i do to completely erase everything and install Leedroid again ?
Backup your SD card, format FAT32 and ext3 then flash the rom again.
I copy+pasted everything to windows earlier when everything was working, but don't have anything on the sd card to back up now. I tried formating to fat32 but the bootloader still says the same thing about the sd card, therefore i can't flash the rom.
Anyone ? i'm out of ideas. I tried a different sd card but the phone still 'cant mount'.
seems you got problem with your partition on the sd card, use you recovery to rebuild you partition or gparted to do so...
googlise gparted live cd or more friendly virualbox or vmplayer to run a complete linux distri.
Did you partition your sd-card on this way:
http://leedroid.com/bravo-wiki/partitioning-your-sd-card-ready-for-a2sd
If not, do it, flash the rom again and all should work.
You could try the sd card enable command?
Code:
fastboot oem enable qxdm 0
Otherwise there is a good guide on USB brick here:

Hope it helps!
