Can not open /cache/recovery/command - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone explain the existence of this return.
Whenever I go into recovery and hit volume up + power I get
Can not open E: /cache/recovery/command
What is it.

It's normal. It is looking to see if that file is there to tell it a command to execute.

Cool now couldn't we use that to our advantage. Say place a script in there to tell it the run cw mod recovery or is there some kind of security in place preventing it from running. Also if so how of the certificates authenticated.

thats a pretty good idea, it'd save us an extra step...

i don't think it works like that, i know that we used to be able to put commands there in the G1 and tell the recovery where the update.zip is and it would flash it, but i would think we have already tried it, and i seem to remember something about cache getting cleared on reboot but i may be mistaken

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this how Rom manager boots into clockwork? If you were to place a file I'm these permanently would your phone reboot into recovery every time?

Question about SimpleRoot

Prolly in the wrong section but i just finished the simpleroot n it worked great, but now im lost on wat to do next. I cant figure out how to put a ROM on the phone. Im lost on wat to do next, any help would be appreciated.

Download rom onto the sdcard
boot into recovery: power off, wait a couple sec's, hold volume down + tap power while continuing to hold volume down, white screen comes up (make sure any pc36img.zip file is removed from your sdcard before this step), then choose recovery
Choose wipe from recovery
Wipe factory data, cache, and dalvik cache
Choose flash from zip (or sdcard)
Choose the zip you put on your sdcard
confirm and flash
Thank u very much. Ive had the iphone since day one n the jailbreaking process is pretty straight forward. Im just so confused wit all these diff ROMs n such.

in all the ROMs i keep seeing ppl talkin about NAND unlock, do i have that?? or do i still need to get it??
you should have, yes.
To check, connect phone to computer, open command prompt, issue command: adb remount rw
if that is successful then you most certainly have your nand unlocked
ok really stupid question. do i open command on my comp or the phone?? i opened it on my comp n typed wat u said, but im not sure it did it in the right location.
for brevity sake, if you dont have a terminal emulator, download it from the market on your phone.
Then type:
su
remount rw
im very sorry. it says remount not found
lol, I dont know why that never works for anyone else must be the kitchen I am using.
Anyway, if you didnt get any errors, then most likely your nand is unlocked so I wouldnt worry about it to much. Just make sure you have a solid nandroid backup and you should be good to go.
ok so i guess im gonna have to do some reading on nandroid backup bc i have no clue wat that is or how to do it or get it lol
lol, you should do that anyway but nandroid backup can be found from your recovery. All you have to do is select the menu (nandroid or something like that) and select backup. It is used in case you mess anything up, you have a backup to restore
oh ok gotcha, so when i put my phone into recovery i cant find where it says anything about nandroid backup, i clicked on recovery n i got an orange triangle
try volume up and power when you are on that screen
thats wat i did n it restarted the phone. so i dont have nandroid then??
I am more or less thinking one of the steps didnt work while rooting your phone. I thought that simpleroot flashes a custom recovery... I will have to check it out.
After rooting my phone using simpleroot I used the toast method for rooting and name unlock.
I thought simple root was just simple root.

clockwork unresponsive

Yesterday I flashed the ENG build and then Eugenes new 2.2. Then I update the radio to 7.8. Now if I boot into recovery it does not do anything. I press a button and the screen goes black, press the on/off button and clockwork recovery comes back on. I tried deleting update.zip from the SD card and re-downloading through ROM manager but going back into recovery had the same results.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hold the top power button and most roms will have a Reboot option, click and go down to recovery, if it doesnt have it, then turn off phone, hold volume down button and power at same time, when bootloader pops up scroll down to recovery and hit power and your in recovery.
make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache.

So, when you're in bootloader, and select recovery, what does it do ? What recovery were you using, amon or clockwork? You said 4g isn't working? What's it do ? Did you backup your rsakeys, or use amon ra to make nand backup? Let me know.

go to Amon-Ra thread in development. Download his image file, put on the root of your SD card, boot into bootloader, when it asks if you want to flash, accept(vol up I think) then let it flash and try and boot into recovery again.
If you are using ROM manager, you can try to flash a different version of Clockwork. That worked for me.

Amon-Ra is a much better recovery than Clockwork. Seems to be less borked and less issues than clockwork.

Unless you backed up before flashing, you probably lost rsa keys. Have fun trying to get em back. Now find a way to get a recovery. Go to amon's thread and there's instructions on how to flash it using terminal emulator
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Mine did the same thing, not being able to boot to recovery... somehow I guess the recovery image got corrupted... I just used ROM manager to flash Amon Ra (by clicking "flash alternate recovery") and it booted right into recovery....
As for the no-4g.... not good
Ok I do some reading and I got ny 4g working and I know way more then I did before this ...thanks guys for the help ....

Keep using CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v4-adb.tar.md5, so reflash it if you flashed any other recovery.
Now, download make_ext4fs. Place it in the directory from which you're running adb commands. Then reboot into CWM and do:
Code:
adb push make_ext4fs /tmp/
adb shell
chmod 755 /tmp/make_ext4fs
/tmp/make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
sync
Which will reformat the partition. It might take a little bit, but not much more than a few minutes.
If that works, reflash stock recovery, boot stock recovery, and select "wipe data/factory reset".

so just used this zip and flashed Frankenstein Rom and it got stuck on the Samsung screen. Pulled battery out rebooted into recovery mod and when i try to look into internal memory it states that no files are found. re flashed another rom everything reported good rebooted and same thing stuck on Samsung screen. I then tried to redo from a backup everything goes well till the data and it says no data found...any ideas what might have happened?
I ended up with a brick using the exact same scripts the otherday. I woulnt recommend using these. Something gets jacked up on the data partition.

I have tried numerous things to recover and nothing has worked. I flashed roms, I flashed /data, I did an install script that restored the recovery logs, I flashed stock, I tried international .pit files (by the way, they wont even install on our phones. It checks for the proper device or something). Nothing has worked, so I deemed it a brick. It was fun to play with for a week though.
im sorry for everything that happened :`( i dont understand why this messes with /data, anyone else??? i was on the E4GT and this was the only thing that saved use from a brick! is there another eMMC bug????
Im not sure what it is. I havent looked into clockwork mod yet, hopefully I will get around to it this weekend. I want to compare what clockwork mod does when it wipes data, versus what the script does. My linux box is down right now though, so I wont be able to play much till I get that fixed.
I think we might have a chance if we could get our hands on the .pit file, or a .tar that includes the data.img, I was going to make one over the weekend, but when I booted my desktop, all that I had was memtest partitions bootable, so Im not sure what happened to my Ubuntu.

mine was too, when i couldn't mount data. i have now been able to mount it
all errors gonna but still cant boot
EDIT:anyway to get into adb without booting that far? (as you cant boot far enough for it to work)
EDIT the reason it is failing ( i believe this is part but there might be more, i hope not) is because /data has now become a read only file system

need help stuck on htc evo 4g screen

i have an evo 4g with cm 7.2 rom and tiamat sbc kernel. i wanted the original kernel so i downloaded it from this site last night and unzipped it using clockworkmod. now my phone is stuck on the htc evo 4g screen. i am new and still am unfamiliar with most of this stuff but can someone please help?
also my phone is rooted:
supersonic evt3 ship s-on
hboot-2.18.0001
microp-041f
touch panel-atmel224_16ab
radio-2.15.00.12.19
not sure if that all matters. i tried restore in clockwork recovery and it didnt change anything....still stuck.
CWM blows. Wipe cache and dalvik and flash another kernel.
thanks for the reply.
i am new. how do i do that from recovery?
i did wipe the dalvik cache. is that enough? then i tried unzipping the tiamat sbc kernel and it was still stuck.
btw....is there a better rom that supports wimax???
If possible, upgrade to a Ra based recovery. That'll make the wiping and flashing easier on your part, as far as ROM choice, I'll give you sense.
I'll just leave this here....

<--- that way-ish
RA refers to Amon Ra, another popular recovery for the EVO. CWM is known for being troublesome on the EVO, so RA-based recoveries are the way to go.

Flashing recoveries for dummies:
STEP 1: Download recovery of choice (smelkusmod ra recovery)
STEP 2: Rename the zip to "PC36IMG.zip" and move to root of the SD card
STEP 3: Boot to bootloader and follow the prompts to update recovery
STEP 4: reboot to recovery
STEP 5: Prosper!!
(If this doesn't go to plan, unzip the pc36img and check the txt file and change the mainver to 1.00.000.0, zip the file again, and repeat from the beginning)
Hope this does the trick
Tried it. Read that whole thread. What is fastboot? When I select it in recovery it doesn't seem to be the same as what everyone talks about. My recovery in clockelwork alternate recovery looks like the original and doesn't do anything special.

PM me and I'll help you sort this out once and for all when I get some free time.
Try this. Download the Smelkus recovery and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders). Rename the file PC36IMG.zip (make sure you don't have an extra .zip extension on the end or it won't work). Once this is done, turn the phone OFF and unplug your phone from your computer. Once the phone is OFF, hold down the volume DOWN button, then press the power button and wait for the HBOOT screen to load. If everything works as it should, you'll get a prompt asking you if you want to update. Use the appropriate keys to select YES, then wait for the update to load. When you go into HBOOT, as part of its loading process, it looks for a file on the SD card named PC36IMG.zip and when it finds it, will ask if you want to update. Also, make sure you don't have more than one file on your SD card named PC36IMG.zip, or you'll have issues. Once you've got the recovery loaded, you can re-namethe file on your SD card something like PC36IMG1.zip, to avoid any issues should you have to use HBOOT to install another PC36IMG.zip file down the road.
That's what I did but I did it all from my phone. Does that matter?

That's what I'm telling you to do. You can actually download the PC36IMG to your phone, but you'll have to move it to the root of your SD card using something like Astro File Manager. That's why most instructions say to hook your phone up to a PC and download the PC36IMG to the root of the SD card.
When you press the volume down button and power button, what happens?
