Is there a way to back up apps and quickly reinstall them after a rom update without having to go to the market place?
I found the apks but when I manually install them, the market doesn't recognize they are installed. is there a data file that holds that info?

Download Astro File Manager from the market.
Install it, and its got the option to make a backup of all the apks. when you flash a new rom, all you have to do is install astro once, and then reinstall all of your apps from there.
The only downfall is that you won't get update notifications when updates come out for apps
the above solution does make a backup of your apks, but there is a .db file somewhere(i forget where) that the market reads to see what you have installed, if you backup and restore that file with each ROM flash(adb pull/push) then you will have your updates when they become available(but make sure that you are pulling/pushing in recovery)
Titanium backup does all of this for you and pretty quickly too!

I ran a titanium backup, then I deleted a bunch of stock apps, then I ran another titanium backup in preparation to flash my first custom rom.
My question is, after I flash the custom rom and use Titanium Backup to restore my apps and settings, is it going to restore all of those apps I deleted? I opened the Titanium folder on my SD card and all of those apps appear to be listed there.

If you didnt remove them apps from the back up then yes it will restore them. There shoudl be an option if you scroll down i batch where you can see delete back ups for noninstalled apps. I would do this and it should remove the back ups of any app you previously removed but had backed up.
Careful, Titanium doesn't actually take backups of system apps, just their data. If you delete system apps you may not be able to restore them with Titanium.

ditto! Need a zip file if possible with stock apps (mainly stock.apk and widget, news.apk, newsreader, rss.apk, friendstream and widget)

In TB, it shows the system apps I had deleted, and they have a line through the file name. Below each one, it says that there isnt any backup of those apps. If I open them, it only gives me the option to un-install them. Should I keep them there in case I need them when I find a way to re-install them?
Certain system apps will not reinstall even if you have a backup of them. If you uninstall Facebook for HTC Sense, for example, there is no way of reinstalling it and getting it to work again. Be careful what you uninstall.
If you pay for the TB Pro Key, you can backup system apps (the actual apk) and restore them to /system/app - I've done so anyway. You shouldn't restore them (or their data) on other roms. You can also freeze the app to test if anything will break by removing it. Freezing doesn't remove the app, just keeps it from running or showing in your app drawer. I know it's a bit pricey, but I think it was more than worth the price. Plus you get background app restores, meaning that you don't have to agree to permissions and select install for each app.
You don't have to restore everything that you backup. When you choose to batch restore (select "restore missing apps with data"), you can uncheck which apps you don't want reinstalled. I usually only restore the apps I absolutely need after a clean install, then if I need an app later I'll restore it. This helps to weed out apps you don't use. You can of course do this with the free version.
If you've removed apps and need them again, you can download the rom and extract the apps you need then push them to /system/app. Or you can just flash the rom over itself without wiping data, just wipe caches. If you're running stock you can do this with the stock rooted rom.

I can't post on the Development forum so I'll post here. I am trying to delete some of the apps off of the incROM I just flashed but I can't figure out how. The rom says:

I went into astro file manager and looked on my computer explorer but couldn't figure out where these apps were being held.

If they're in data/app you should be able to go to settings>applications>manage applications and uninstall anything you don't want. Aslo Titanium Backup from the market works great, just be careful, it well let you uninstall think you shouldn't. Hope this helps.

+1 on Titanium backup - you can freeze them as well in TB, and don't have to delete them.
Recommend the premium (paid) version of TB.
Root Explorer (highly recommended paid app in market and well worth the money) will let you browse the SD and r/w just like windows file explorer.
Hence, once you have the tools, and can locate the apps you want to whack, you can do so.
Make a full backup of all user apps in TB AND a nandroid backup BEFORE you begin killing off apps, so you can get back to 'stock' IncROM if you do something you didn't intend to do, or want something back you may have deleted.

You could try to copy them to your sd card from data/app with a file explorer app. I'm not sure though if this works on an unrooted phone.
My phone is rooted. I need to store locally due to the fact that I like flashing often.

Use Titanium Backup from Market. Requiers Root. (you have, yeah. )
There you can backup all installed Apps within your settings.
And there are options to make a batch, so that you can backup and restore all apps at one time.

fyi, even if you store your apps in sd card, when you flash another rom with full wipe, you need to download your apps back (still , even the apps is there in your sdcard).
My suggestion is , download Titanium Backup, and make backup every apps installed, because you can easily restore back your apps ( with data saved - this is important especially if you play angrybirds .. lol ) even if your apps install in the system or sd card. No need to redownload back.

What a meant is that you can copy your downloaded and installed apk files from this folder to the sdcard and install them again once you flash.
or you can use MyBackup root to backup your APP and Setting, when you reinstall the OS , you can use it restore your APP and Setting too.

The matter is that I log on Google automatically the phone download all the undreds apps bought and previously installed. Anyway i,
'd to stop all the download and download only "mybackup app" and restore the other apps. I'd like to download and store locally only mybackup, just to make easy the restore.
So I made an update.zip before I went from my 4.1 ROM to a 4.2 ROM. However whenever I try to flash my update.zip file it makes my phone not boot. Unfortunately I was stupid and didnt make any other backups. Is there a way to restore individual apps/data from the update.zip file?
Could have something to do with how titanium created the file.
Does the .zip only contain the tibackup app? Or others as well?

It contains a large list of apps. When I created the zip I went through the long list of stuff and only backed up what I wanted (none of the red system stuff).
All in all its not a huge deal. Was mostly wanting my SMS/Call Logs/Wi-Fi
All the other stuff would be nice but can be redone

Yep I dont think thats the cause though as it also happens if I try going back to my 4.1 ROM (JBSourcery).
I went through my update.zip file and removed a bunch more stuff that I likely didnt need and it worked!!! Obviously I backed something up into the zip that was causing the issue. There was also some system apks/files in there that I am positive I didnt choose for the update.zip... not sure if it auto-adds some or if I just spaced out but so far so good!
EDIT: Well it kind of worked... I got some of the apps but some didnt show at all and it didnt restore my SMS messages
Just to update if anyone else runs into this...
As I said above I got it to work by manually editing the .zip file to remove some stuff that I didnt need but it didnt restore my SMS/Call logs or anything like that (Wi-Fi APs as well).
I then went into the .zip and removed all the SMS/Call Log/Wi-Fi lists and then put them in the TitaniumBackup folder on my phone (overwriting my old ones) so it will allow me to restore. I also tried removing all files from my .zip file except the SMS/Call Log/Wi-Fi stuff and will see if reflashing helps
It would be a really great addition to TiBu to have the ability to restore from your .zip file from within TiBu. I dont think it would be super hard to implement but I'm not a dev so thats just speculation.
I will update again later if my workaround does the trick.
Not sure if you've ever heard of it, but grab the app named "App2zip". It will do just that. You select apps that you want installed back on your ROM after flashing a new one. When finished hit the OK button and it will make a flashable zip of all the selected apps. It also keeps all user & system apps on separate pages so you don't accidentally backup a system app that might cause issues. Another good thing is that it works for 4.2! I used it to restore over 150 apps on Mmuzzy's first build after 4.2 dropped and everything restored properly. Just know it zips only the apps, no data. If you want your app data backed up use TiBu and restore data after you flash your ROM & apps zip.
i was able to restore my apps using the update.zip from tibu, it then restored data after i booted the OS. I had to mount /system before i flashed the update.zip because if i didn't mount it first, it wouldn't restore my apps at all. The only problem is my phone lagged like an SOB after restoring the data. I just use tibu to restore apps and data after i boot the phone, keeps the problems off my phone.

Yep I have used App2Zip. TiBu has basically replicated that functionality.
So as is normally the case the problem here was my own stupidity.
I thought that by choosing the option to make an update.zip and then choosing all the programs I wanted it would make a current version backup of the apps I selected. However I think how it works is that it only makes the .zip file out of an existing backup. So I should have run a full TiBu backup before making my .zip. I verified this by going through the xml file with my text messages and verifying that it was old stuff.
So in the end it was my fault for not understanding how the program worked. I still think the ability to restore directly from the update.zip from within TiBu would be a welcome addition though.
I have the Bell E973 with root and am trying to remove some of the bloatware that came with it but it will not let me. I've tried deleting them manually, uninstalling with titanium backup and another app called root app delete, but it fails every time. Titanium backup pro tells me the uninstallation worked but the games are still there. if I try to delete them manually in ES File Manager its the same thing it says the files were deleted but when I back out of the system folder then go back to it the games are still there.
I finally managed to get them to uninstall but when I reboot the phone they reinstall
Rather than uninstall them you could just freeze them so that they dont show up. Or you could try Rom Toolbox.. thats what I use and it seems to work fine..
