Installing non market apps - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

I've a bunch of apps on my PC which are no longer on the market. Is it possible to install these on a rooted sgs? I currently have a g1 which is rooted and enables me to do so but am changing phone in a few days time

You shouldn't need to root it (unless they are cracked/protected apps), there is an option on the phone to allow the install of non-market apps.

this is by far the easiest way

wifi FTW
Easiest solution infact imho is using ES File Explorer from market.
with ES File Explorer you can just install them through wifi lan.
Once you share the folder in your pc, you can always access it through wifi and with one click install, copy etc. anything.

[Q] How to install apps?

How do I install apps? I looked on in the htc evo wiki and other q&a's but couldnt find it. Im new to the evo, so i dont know what im doing.
I download a com.[app name].apk file from my pc. I allowed unknown sources, now i dont know what to do.
You'll need a file that you can open the .apk, I use linda file manager (which you can download from the market).
Do you have root explorer or any kind of file reader app installed

thanks it worked great. So I'm guessing this is the procedure to installing apps.

Any apps you download as .apks you will need a file manager to run. Astro works well as well. If you are rooted, use root explorer.
Think of it like Windows. To install something you have to use Explorer and run the .exe.

[Q] Internal Memory :/

i haven't found a thread about it and i'm searching for this by 2 months, i'm want some kind way to browse my internal memory by pc, if there's a way, name it please. And have another question, i already have root me play and installed Astro, IO and ES Explorer but no one haven't asked for superuser permission, cuz i want to to change the apk file from psemu native and i need this permission, if someone can help, don't hesitate, please.
adb pull is your best bet to copy internal memory to your pc to browse it.

Going into your phone via SSH should allow full access, since you have root. The app needed on your android is QuickSSHd ($1.49 btw). On your PC, download WinSCP then link them up.
Or if you want to explore the root partition from your phone, use Root Explorer ($3.99)

anyway TS, to add on your choices, try 'wifi file transfer pro' https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransferpro&feature=search_result
works like a root explorer, but this is for PC, browse or upload/download to/from your android file system..

VVM question

Anyone have anyother workarounds to get VVM working? I have tried several methods and cant get any of them to provision. I am running CIUI which is a CM7 base with a MIUI theme. I tried installing the apk and then composing a message to [email protected]... it wont provision. I have also tried a couple different flashable zips iv found on here also with no luck. I have double checked the location of the apk and also made sure the permissions were correct.

If its cm7 u should just be able to flash gapps with vvm, right?
Yep, or add it to the zip before you flash it
will this work even if i dont have a tiback up for VVM data? my nandroid with my vvm is a clockwork nandroid and my Amon-ra wont restore it.
This fix worked for me, but you have to use Root Explorer (paid app)to get to a hidden folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547780 Good Luck!

You can use any file explorer with root access, such as astro file manager and es file explorer, both free, and es file explorer being my app of preference.
SOLVED: CLOSE>>>
All i had to do was flash GAPPS modified with sprint VVM and BOOM as soon as i rebooted it provisioned... i composed a message to myself and it came right through.

In es file explorer go settings>home directory and change "/sdcard/" to "/" and you can access system folders.

What's a private app?

I recently installed an app from Google Play and when I go to Astro File Manager to back up my apps it's the only one I can't back-up.
There is no check box next to it like all the others, it just says (private).
I have over 120 apps and this is the ONLY one that says this.
Does anyone have any idea why?
Thank you in advance

I know there is other ways to back up I just think it's weird that is app is 'private'
And wondered what it actually means?

[Q] Root problem

Hi
So I just rooted my OUYA but there is a problem. Everything seems to work fine except for root file managers. Installed root browser but once I open it, it instantly crashes. Same with ES file explorer. With root explorer I manage to navigate, but once I click a file it crashes too.
I installed root checker and it confirms that the console is rooted. I tried everything (including re-doing the entire process) but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
It's probably the apps, not root. A lot of sideloaded apps aren't going to work (newest ES file explorer included) simply because they aren't designed for the Ouya.
