7/14 - ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.0 - Everything and the kitchen sink - Desire General

Your feedback has helped me add all sorts of goodies and changes!
Confirmation on all restores, wipes, and anything that would otherwise change your system.
Alphabetically sorted zip and nandroid lists.
Support for all ext2/3/4 partitions.
Added a back button/power button select for ephumuris!!!!! When recovery starts, press up/down/up/down to turn it on or off. (Basically, scroll over the top/bottom of the menu several times)
Better error integration with ROM Manager.
Command line nandroid.
Backup of Froyo apps2sd!
Test Drive it with fakeflash:

Image to use with Unrevoked 3:

You're a genius, man.

Well done!

Thanks!

nice one, cheers

ah, it would be awesome if you add a partiotion sd function into recovery

yeah is format partition on there pal? so we can create ext2, etc?

Hmmm, ROM manager still does not have the latest version updated, do I need to do anything to make it see this new version?

Nice , will test it out Thanks

Since this is experimental, it is only available if you scroll to the bottom and select "All ClockworkMod Recoveries".

Yes, I need some feedback and bug reports before I can release it into the wild on ROM Manager That's why I came to XDA first

can't get into 2.5 is stuck on bootscreen.. Running defrost 2.0f recovery doesn't work in unrevoked and not trew rommanager..

Just flashed using Unrevocked 3 and got stuck at the white HTC screen.
Left it for 5, pulled the battery and tried to enter recovery. The same again.
Pulled, rebooted to the OS and re-flashed the new Unrevoked without the custom image and I now have access to recovery 2.0.2.4.

How did you install? If you used the fakeflash zip it is completely harmless.

Clockwork 3.x does not flash properly?, want to go back to 2.5.x? Look here!

I'm looking for CW 2.5.0.1(?) so I can flash radio and other files. It seems like 3.x "aborts" install with some files.
I have not been able to find the 2.5.x CW img for the Evo. Also, now that my phone is crippled (flashed a new ROM), how do I install the 2.5.x over the 3.x? ROM Manager does not give me the option to flash back to 2.5.x
Thanks for any quick help!
BTW, I'm not using RA because it doesn't seem to allow me to navigate the SD directory to chose files to flash. If there is something I'm missing, let me know.
Edit:
See post #7 below, it contains the file to get you back to 2.5.0.1!!

I believe that the new clockwork is causing problems for a lot of people, myself included. I cant revert to an old clockwork like 2.5 either. I just had to flash RA 1.8 on my phone and my wife's Evo.

Rom manager has an option at the very bottom called "all clockwork recoveries"... Use that and select whatever build you want.

For some reason that method isn't working for a lot of people, myself included. The thing that is working is to flash RA 1.8
I tried several times to revert to an old clockwork and kept getting an error.

Correct, the older versions in ROM Manager do not work for the Evo.
I ended up finding a pc36img.zip and flashed it. I am now back to 2.5.0.1. I don't use RA because I can't select files. It's a pain when I have a lot of files to flash.
Here is the Clockwork 2.5.0.1, packaged flashable.
Put it in the root of your SD, boot into bootloader, let it update, and life is good again...
Edit: Some additional info to save you some searching:
Make sure you flash using bootloader and NOT your current recovery. Power off, hold Vol Down, and Power On. Let it update the image, then reboot into recovery again. At that point, you should see 2.5.0.1.
ROM Manager does not properly downgrade. 2.5.1.4/3, I have been told, is not for Evo. You will need to flash manully as I described.

There's a more sinister problem with 3.0.0.1 (which appears to have now been retracted, as ROM Manager, after updating me to 3.0.0.1, is now showing "Latest Recovery: 3.0.0.0" at the time I write this).
It's only sheer chance that I had another unrelated problem, or I would have been screwed -- the Nandroid backup is broken in 3.0.0.1 (it completed the backup operation within about 2-3 seconds, clearly not having backed up everything!)
Edit: I checked in the backup directory, and the only files backed up by 3.0.0.1 were boot.img and recovery.img
Now that I reverted to 3.0.0.0, at least the backup takes a good long time and seems to be listing all the usual stuff, but I don't feel that I can trust 3.0 now.
I'm going back to what was working for me a couple of days ago (2.5.1.2) when I tried CyanogenMod (6.1.1) for the first time. ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery handled it all so perfectly that I kicked it off with checkboxes enabled for the "back it up" and "wipe" options, got called away for about 1/2 hour, and when I returned, there was CM6 in all its beauty, even including the Google apps.
Is there an "official" place to report bugs for ClockworkMod Recovery? I noticed that the clockworkmod.com web site has gone poof (Google cache shows it intact on Dec 11th).

I'm sorry, but as an AR Recovery user, I see no reason to switch to Clockwork other than being able to browse folders other than the root of your memory card for ZIPs. AR seems much more stable and has had all of the features (except that one) that CW recently had added.

Question for yoru guys: When you flash with RA (/AR), do you just rename the file and put it into the root of SD each time? Is there an easier way to flash with RA that I am not aware of?

Not defending CW, but it does have USB Mode. It's just tucked away in the menu.
If I'm on my PC, I download and then just drag to the phone or I use Dropbox, then Astro to move it to the root. If I'm not, then I use Astro. I don't have to rename anything.
ARG! I flashed 2.5.0.1 and still non of my old backups work they all hang at the white htc boot screen. I am just booting into recovery and running restore should I be doing something first?

Just to get it straight. It means that when you reboot to recovery using the shutdown menu in android, it will go to recovery instead of rebooting the system? Just like a regular cyanogen rom?
Or is it that you created a recovery rom?

Waiting for it.
I think we should have a dedicated thread for zip builds requests, since most of the time users are packing them instead of the developpers and the links get lost in the middle of hundreds of pages.
A thread should be created, held by a user regrouping zip builds for each developper in first post, decently classified, so that anyone can take what he wants without browsing or searching over 2000 pages...

Hey sorry for the noobish question. But the "move to sd folder" that contains the image, is that the same as in ClockworkMod Recovery version 1.1? Or is there a reason why I should use this specific one.

Good idea, I hope you can stand the pace of mdeejay, and people do not spend too much time hanging.... (kiding).
But anyway, the MDJ gingerbread is already very stable, so the pace of Mdeejay upgrades will be now more calm, and you will take the pressure for surely.
Thanks for this source of CWM updates.
Thanks! I was begging to think that everyone preferred NAND over CWM. It just make CWM makes life so much easier. Plus I'm use to using CW. I don't fully understand why doesn't MDJ release it in this form to begin with but hey I'm happy either way.

I agree. When I made the first set of zips I had never used ROM Manager and didn't realize he charged for installing the touchable recovery when flashed through ROM Manager. He says you can do it yourself if you want to download it from his website for free, but I don't think it's right for me to make that any easier.
You can get the regular recovery directly from ROM Manager. That's probably easiest.
Touch doesn't have a working status bar during backup/restore. Leaves you sitting there wondering if anything is going on....if it weren't for the phone heating up one would think its frozen....date is also still screwed up

Yeah... but if you update to version 5.8.4.6 (released just an hour ago) it totally removes external sd card support; for zip flashing, backups, restores, etc.
Could have sworn I read somewhere that 5.8.4.5 external sdcard support was broken when restoring a backup???? Don't know why he would have removed it if there was nothing broken... Koush is weird like that though.
Anyway, the Team Epic version has everything working except the date issue, which is also present in koush's builds too.
5.8.4.6 looks like it removed External SD support...wonder why...gonna flash back to .4.5

I don't know where you heard that you have to enable fastboot, but that information is incorrect.
To root and s-off using revolutionary, you must enable USB Debugging from Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging. then install hboot, fastboot and adb drivers (http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install ; http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/).
Then, run revolutionary while the phone is plugged in your PC.
(For kevikevs: download revolutionary from www.revolutionary.io)

Well, you don't install it yet.
In my sig there's an sd-card partitioning guide. You will have to partition your sd-card to have your internal memory increased. Follow it, using the fastboot method.
Then you can install a JB rom.
I recommend either this rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766550
or this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070704
You install a rom by:
1. Download the rom zip.
2. Put it on your sd-card.
3. Boot in recovery.
4. Do a backup from recovery.
5. In the wipe menu, select "wipe all partitions except sd-card"
6. Select "Install zip from sd-card"
7. Wait for it to install
8. Reboot.

You're not rooted yet. Download and install this from recovery :
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
Then you will be able to use all those apps.
OK sweet all rooted now! ( i hope)
So i have the 4ext recover thing set up following your guide. (thanks)
Is it ROM time yet?
Chris.

Thanks very much. I will go with your recommendation

Sorry to butt in here, but I've been reading this topic in hopes of learning about dual-boot myself. I've downloaded and tried several ROMs, but never two at a time
Props to both of you. This has been very helpful. Think I can dual-boot vanilla with HTC One's ROM? Tried it at a store, felt very nice.

Woop! Woop! Flashed successfully XD
Now what should i install? This is the first time i have ever had an Android phone of my own.
Also, i would like to dual boot if possible and install the latest Sense UI (the one the OneX has).

Congratz!!
You should first follow the instructions in the rom thread for activating a2sd, in case you haven't already.
Unfortunately, i don't know anything about dual boot.

Ok i have had a look and I'm not sure what this "a2sd" is? I can't see it.
I have installed the google apps .zip located in the ROM thread.
Can i now wipe my SD card, or is the ROM running from it?
Never mind, you have helped me enough already. I'll work out dual booting another time.
Chris.

A2sd is the script that moves apps to your sd-ext (the partition on your sd-card that you created using my guide). It will let you install way more apps. There are instructions in the ROM thread.

[Q] Radio fails to flash under CWM 2.5.0.7 recovery

I've been searching for a solution before writing my own post, for I'm aware there are probably many, many topics of people dealing with the same issue.
Well, here's is my problem.
I've got two wildfires A3333. Flashed CM 7.2.0 on both of them, successfully. GPS does work on only one of them. I've tried the GPS test on the other one. The compass is working, the localization is not.
So, as said before, I've googled for some solution for the other one, and here comes the temporary downgrading of CWM to 2.5.0.7 and then installing one of the following: buzz.radio-3.35.15.31-signed.zip, buzz.radio-3.35.20.10-signed.zip or buzz.radio-3.35.19.25-signed.zip that will be put on the SD.
Ok, everything is set up, let's reboot to recovery.
Now, the recovery screen is showing version 3.0.0.6 and I don't know if that's normal, since I've set it to 2.5.0.7 before rebooting. Won't mind for now.
Let's flash the zips. And all I get is this message, with all of the radios:
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Uhm, let's try by setting the option toggle signature verification to disabled.
Here's a different message:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the Clockworkmod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
It seems that the 3.0.0.6 version shown on the main menu is kind of relevant... Should it show 2.5.0.7 instead of that? What now?
Thanks in advance.
After flashing the temporary CWM,it'll automatically boot into that CWM version. Now flash the radio with that.
And if you reboot you'll return to the CWM version you had before.
To fix GPS you could also use this method,

Yes, if by "flashing the temporary CWM" you mean entering the ROM manager, tapping on All ClockwordMod Recoveries, download the 2.5.0.7 version, let it install and tap Reboot into recovery, well that's exactly what I did. And the recovery screen is showing me this 3.0.0.6 version anyway, which is kind of suspicious to me.
I've already read the topic you linked, some days ago, but that means having to wipe the CM 7.2.0 and reinstall it later and I'm not sure whether I can backup the apps that are in the EXT partition since I'm using Link2SD. And honestly, I'm not even sure I'm able to make a good backup.

I wouldn't really recommend using ROM Manager, and what I meant by flashing was to flash the CWM zip with your current Clockworkmod recovery.
And also consider upgrading your recovery.
And about the guide, just make a nandroid backup with CWM, and restore it instead of flashing a new rom.
Hope this helps
I shall give a try to it all and let you know.
One last question before I proceed. In order to upgrade my recovery I'd have to download the latest CWM available for Buzz and install it the same way I'll do with v2.5.0.7 (of course, after that step), am I right?
Thanks!
Ok, I've installed the v2.5.0.7 via the install from .zip option and got to install the radios. Woo!!
No, hold back.
Now the GPS icon is showing up but GPStest doesn't detect any activity.
I've installed 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10 first, then 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31 and then 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25. Same result.
Now should I rely on plan B?
I've read of someone who got it working by installing the 3 radios in crescent order. Is it worth a try?

No, that'll only be temporary, as with 2.5.
Get the PC49IMG.zip file for that recovery, put it on the root of the SD, reboot to bootloader, it'll scan and will ask to install, select yes, you're done.
First GPS fix will take some time, maybe from 2-10 mins.
I've only flashed the .20.10 Radio. It worked for me...
Or if you have a sense rom or the backup of your stock rom, give the guide a try...
Try this radio file. link, worked for me under cwm 2.5.0.7

My fault, there's something I should make clear.
The radios I've been talking about before have been installed on the first Wildfire, the one I said the GPS was working (and in the meanwhile it proved to be untrue as I discovered the GPS icon has never showed up before flashing the radio). This one Wildfire has CWM 2.5.0.1, installed with Unrevoked. The second Wildfire (which I'd like to use as my usual phone) was rooted with PC49IMG as Unrevoked wouldn't work with it and is running CWM 3.0.0.6, which I've reported in the first post.
For now, let's discard the CWM 3.0.0.6 phone.
It is on the CWM 2.5.0.1 phone where I've temporarily installed 2.5.0.7 and flashed the radios. Could it be relevant?
(maybe I'd better update the CWM anyway)

Uhm, link is broken. My CWM 2.5.0.7 looks to be working properly anyway.
stick with 2.5.0.7 recovery and 20.10 radios, that worked for me using Navitel, as for file here.
Flashed Froyo 2.2.1 shipped ROM... and GPS didn't work on it either. Great.
I've restored my CM backup and found out all my link2SD linked apps to be screwed in return. Vanished. Link2SD says there's soooo much free space in that second partition... can't imagine when it's been formatted, but nevermind.

I've already got that radio version but tried to flash the one you've gently provided me, well, same as the other radios. Icon showing but no activity at all.
I give up.

Unlikely, it's been some days I'm testing the GPS on the phone. But I shall test it away from home to be sure.
I'm from Naples, (IT) by the way.

Not really sure if CWM matters or not, we use 2.5 to flash radios because the flashing script is different from currently used ones.
Ty upgrading anyway,
Are you sure it isn't a hardware fault. If GPS doesnt work in stock rom, it could possibly be a hardware issue...

Too weird it happens on both devices, even if... well them both have had a nice dive in the sea but GPS used to work before flashing the new ROMs on each phone.
Sure there's something not correct in my procedure but can't find it out.

Well, I'm sorry mate. unless its a hardware fault or something I'm not in the know of, there are no more solutions I can think of.
Behold! He's thinking back.
It just looks like it's not able to track many satellites. Well, at least that's a relief.

Well done mate...
P.S. :- I'd recommend using 'GPS status and Toolbox' app which is much better than GPStest.
