Only phone keypad for soft input options - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I posted this on PPCGeeks a few days ago and got a few suggestions, but still no solution. I am posting here, as I think this is a generic problem and not CDMA specific.
This is on a Sprint Touch Pro 2 running the stock WM 6.5 MR2, and I haven't installed anything new in the last few days. When I try to reply to a text message, instead of the QWERTY keyboard, a phone-type keypad pops up. When I try to change it, sometimes only the keypad shows as an option as in the attached picture. Other times, I get all of the options, but selecting any QWERTY keyboard does nothing, and I am still stuck with the keypad.
The suggestions I have tried were to create blank softkb.dll and HTCSipSrvc.dll files and overwrite the originals in the \Windows directory, reboot, delete the empty files, and reboot again to force the ROM files to be used. These made no difference at all.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Trying to solve this myself
will get back to you if I do

try this...
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e0010409
Edit:
Ime File = Change from \Windows\et9ime.dll to \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = change from ET9 IME to COMP IME

Sorry, but my settings were already the way you suggested.
I'm tempted to hard reset soon. I haven't had much luck with SPB Backup and am thinking of trying Sprite Backup. I'd like to hear opinions and experiences with either or both after a hard reset.

ah then I think you need to set everything back to the T9IME settings...try it before you hard reset!

Wow kiint, that fixed it and it didn't even need a reboot! Thanks!
To summarize:
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e0010409
Be sure these are set this way:
Ime File = \Windows\et9ime.dll
Layout Text = ET9 IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Set:
XT9SupportMSSip=0

glad it worked

Softkey Changer

I made a little Cab file of the Softkey Changer App I found somewhere in an Extended Rom.
Since there are a lot of people who want to change the softkeys.
Enjoy
what does it do? Is it to change application in the main (today) softkeys?
or can it also change softkey in other applications such as Outlook Mobile?
Thanks in advance.

I too am confused. Isn't there already an option to change whatever application we can launch using the soft key buttons by going to the system settings?
This application is not standard in every Rom.
If you don't have it in your Rom, you can add it now.
Yes you can assign every program to one of the softkeys.
sharky48 thanks for this fantastic thing. I use to have some other one, bu this is just perfect.
Thanks again

This one is much better:
- It allows to select any application whereever the application is.
- Allows to rename the Soft Key Display Name
- The applet can be put on any Tab (Personal, System or Connections) of Settings
Cheers,
.Fred
ps.: the only disavantage is that the size of the applet is 63k against the 18k of yours

Thanks for the explaination. Appreciate it.
Does anyone know of a way to access call history using the softkeys, or even the hard keys?
On my old C500 i think there was an executable somewhere which opened call history, and it was possible to point a button at this, can't seem to find one on the hermes though.

Thanks again!

There should be an option there to rename it. Just read it carefully. It should be at the top.

wow thanks im stupid.
however still i cannot change the right soft key, even though i have a program selected in the program, on the today screen it still wont change from Menu
So I changed the right soft key to new sms and it didnt work, so I changed it back to Calendar but now it gives me an error:
HTCCalendar.exe
The file "HTCCalendar" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
This is using the former file (soft key changer.zip) not applet.
Even resetting doesnt help.

Soft Key icon missing on XDA Orbit???

Hi guys,
having had various WM5 handsets, I was a little upset to not be able to adjust the soft keys located at the bottom of the today screen. This has been possible on previous units just not the Orbit. The icon is found on the settings/ personal screen under the icon soft keys. I have done a hard reset and the icon still has not appeared. Can anyone suggest a registry entry to enable this function as the pre set options are not required????
I have seen 5 Orbits and all seem to be without it is this different on the artemis or T-mobile Compact III's?
Just to add I was wondering if I would ber able to dopy the icon from my previous device and see if it would work in my XDA Orbit?
Its the softkey applet you are after - place this cpl in the \windows directory soft reset and it should appear. (soft reset not strictly necessary)
Users beware - it is not easily reversible after install - you can delete the cpl but the settings remain the same and you will need to do a registry edit to get back tp previous state.
JC#79:
The Artemis has no Softkey applet, too.
Thanks at meschle
Thanks for that is any issues I should be aware of with using this applet, as in any problems etc?
Also how would I go about removing it from the registy should I indeed choose to do so (problems permitting)?

Change the application launched by Today screen Soft Keys
To change the application launched by the Today screen Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\(Default) = "Calendar" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
To change the application launched by the Today screen Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\Open = "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Contacts.lnk" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\(Default) = "Contacts" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Note that 113 normally doesn't exist by default, and probably needs to be created
Also note that there is at least 1 application that allows you to set these through a GUI, developed by FdcSoft called SoftKeyAppletEx.'
For some reason after removal of the applet the defaults dont return - so need editing
Thanks for that I'll give it a try later tonight after I backup the device just to be sure I can restore without any issues.
Also when you say wiki what do you mean have you a link?
Also will the applet allow me to use the softkey function as in previous handsets via softkey icon in personal tab of settings menu (am being blond has been along day)?

How have you tried to set it up? Which shortcut did you use?
I installed the file in the windows dir as advised.
I did a soft reset and attempted to use the New SMS & New MMS shortcuts.
When I try it comes up with the error message:
tnsms.exe
The file 'tnsms' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.
This also comes up for the file name 'tnmms' am not really sure what to do next, seems all other ones work that I have tried so far?

I dont seem to have those shortcuts - what device are you running?
If you can, attach copies of those lnk files in a zip.
I use wm5newmenu and it already has those shortcuts in its menu - i assigned the menu to left soft key.
I have the o2 XDA Orbit those shortcuts are a part of the messaging programme for starting new sms and mms. I will search the device and see if I can find the files and zip them up on here.
Correction I cannot find the files stated in the error message, so I am at a loss as to what to do next?
Bump
Anyone shed any light on this one? I can enable these shortcuts on my old MDA Compact yet with the applet on the Orbit it is having none of it.
Same here with my Orbit ... I wanted to use left soft key for new SMS, but it gives me an error: The file 'tnsms' cannot be opened. ...Any advice guys?
Cheers ..

I use this:
Just to say, Happy Christmas to all,
AND
The registry setting for the soft keys is a marvel. I reckon it is better than any applet (going from what I hear), I havent tried any applet, I went straight to the registry and I must say It is exactly as promised.
My Setup:
O2 XDA Orbit, Mobile 6, Default Theme
Program to access Registry:
SOTI Pocket Controller Pro v6.01 (this is well worth the money)

re-install touchflo?

i just tried to install a program to change the touchflo cube, touch settings by www.fatattitude.com, but now the 3 tab side is completely blank. is there any way to reinstall the touchflo software? i tried a soft reset and it didn't work. any suggestions?
if nothing else works, a hard-reset will get it back. note, however, that a hard-reset will return the phone to it's original state when you first got it. it will remove everything you loaded to/installed on the phone. perform a hard-reset: while holding down the 'green' and 'red' buttons perform a soft-reset. you'll get a message asking you to press the 'green' send key to verify you want to complete the hard-reset. good luck
Don't hard reset just yet.

Space Key not appear in Full Qwerty Keyboard

Hi all.
Suddenly, the "Space Key" does not appear in Full Qwerty Keyboard.
Now ".com" & "/" appear instead of "Space Key".
(plz see the attached file)
I want to change from ".com" & "/" to "Space Key",, how ever i don't know the way.
Could u give the solution?
i had exact same problem. apparently you have to do a registry change to fix it. HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime.change CurrentET9Style from 1 back to 0
Your variable might not be 1 but when my screen was as yours it was a 2. Laater it switched on its own to a 9 so dont lose this registry change because your probably going to have to do it again. I noticed when i added new contact or something to that effect it changed the variable
Thank you very much for your solution!
My "CurrentET9Style" is 6.
After revise from 6 to 0, Back to normal keyboard.
Thank you !!!

when i changed to "autocomplete" I had the same problem with the space key being gone until i put the registry back the way it was...Tj
Keep CurrentET9Style = 0 ??
Changed HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime.change CurrentET9Style from 1 back to 0
This works temporarily, but when I click on the time in a calendar entry, it switches to numbers, and does not switch back unless I re-edit the registry. Is there any way to keep the setting from changing at all? I want it to stay at CurrentET9Style = 0.
Anybody?
Hi everyone. Okay, first let me just say that the "FixStuckTP2Keyboard.cab" is fine and it does work. But it reverts your keyboard back to the "eT9" and you probably did a registry hack to change it from that in the first place (changed it to "COMP") am I right? Not to knock that cab, like I said it works just fine but I did NOT want to "install" a cab file everytime this happened (after it would change it back to "eT9" I would have to go back into the registry and change it to "COMP" again.)
Let me tell you HOW this is happening in the first place, it has something to do with Opera. You can test this very easily. First get your keyboard working properly, then open Opera. Type something in the address bar or just tap the address bar and BAM! Your keyboard is stuck in that mode. Now I don't know why this happens, that mode is getting stuck in memory for some strange reason and it will NOT let go.
I'm assuming this is ONLY happening to those of us who have used the registry (or a program or cab) to change the keyboard to "COMP" instead of "eT9" since changing it back to "eT9" solves the problem.
There are three solutions:
1.) ONLY use the slide-out keyboard when using Opera.
2.) Use the FixStuckTP2Keyboard.cab
3.) Use the MortScripts I created.
Use "KB-OFF (eT9).mscr" to force the "eT9" info into the registry. Then use "KB-ON (COMP).mscr" to enter the "COMP" info back into the registry, then do a soft reset.
You can rename these files if you like.
Yeah I know it sucks to have to do a reset just to get the use of your spacebar back just because you used the virtual keyboard when using Opera but hey, what are you gonna do?
UPDATE: Just noticed that "sometimes" my scripts don't work if you click on them one after another (again for some strange reason). If this happens to you just click on "KB-OFF" soft reboot then click on KB-ON" & reboot. Weird I know.

Warning! compime.dll/Tilt2 messes up HW keyboard

Heads up for Tilt2 owners.
I just did this, to try to get old style Word completion: This completely messed up the HW keyboard. I've restored the registry edits, but the HW KB is still messed up. Can someone send me the AT&T keymapping regedits? If that does not work, I may need to do a hard reset back to factory defaults
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e001 0409
Edit: Ime File = \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Edit: XT9SupportMSSip= 0
That will bring you back to the good old word suggestion and dynamic auto completion.
