Changing batteries - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so some guy that my co-workers know brought in a bag of cellphone chargers and cellphone batteries. There are 3 batteries that fit perfectly in the MyTouch slide, they're htc branded and I'm wondering if they'll be compatible with the MyTouch. I don't exactly know what to look for to tell if they are or aren't compatible.
Whatever you guys need to know that's on the batteries, just tell me and I'll post it.
Two of the batteries are red, so I'm assuming it's from the Droid Incredible and th third battery may be from an older htc phone because the battery says "htc innovation" whereas the red ones say just "htc" and the MyTouch's is also just "htc"
The 3 batteries are all 1500 mAh 5.55Whr Model: RHOD160
The MyTouch's battery is 1300 MAh 4.81Whr Model: BB00100
So from the information I gave you guys, tell me if it is compatible please

Yes they are compatable I've been using a hero battery for a while now

I believe the G1s battery said "HTC INNOVATION" on it.

I've got this battery too. Bought it on eBay advertised as a Touch Pro 2 battery. I used it for a little until I realized it's too "thick" for the shallow battery space in the Slide. A few hours of charging that battery in my phone and my battery door seemed to warp a little. From that point on, if I used the stock battery, the door would squeak and creak. I don't use the TP2 battery anymore.

Yeah, the batteries are a bit too big, but by a very little amount. I probably won't use the batteries then since I don't really want my batter door turning out like yours . I guess I'm gonna have to go back to conditioning the stock battery again.

Yeah, it's not worth it. I conditioned my stock battery pretty well (completely dead, charged til light turned green, then 2 additional hours, 5 times) and it's getting awesome life. A full day of texting, calls, web browsing, and an hour or two of Pandora at work, with life to spare, no problem.

Mugen 3200mAh battery for TP2 works in EVO

In case you need an extended battery now, I can report success with a Mugen 3200mAh unit that was intended for a Sprint Touch Pro 2. It cost $70 or 80 when I bought it around Christmas time from an eBay vendor (couldn't find it anywhere else online). Turns out the person I got it for had a Touch Pro 1 and this battery was not compatible so it's been sitting around the house ever since. I just popped it into my EVO 4G and it works perfectly as far as I can tell. Boots up normally and is charging as expected. Of course the back plate does not fit over the fat battery so I left that off and replaced the jelly case which stretches over the whole thing well enough.

Hero batteries work also.. a lot of HTC phone's use the same batteries. I have like 4 batteries for my evo lol
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280492889203&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I bought these a while back.. worked great in my hero and work just as good in my evo. Plus now I have a standalone wall-charger. Took about a week or so to get here since its coming from Hong Kong.. But it was well worth the ~$10 for 2 batteries and a charger..
ok, i stole its soul for you.
well im glad i order mine from seidio since it comes with the back case but this is good info so i can pass my oem battery to my wife for hero hero with weak battery life
Lol. Nice evo . It's the humpback of xda.
Sent from my Evo 4G
that is disgusting! but more power to you hahaha...lets hope seidio lets you buy just the ext battery cover
oh sweet mother of god i would feel all grossed out if i tried to handle my phone and it was all squishy at the parts that aren't touching the battery or the frame...
How's the battery life with the 3200? After doing some battery life tweaks and mods mine seems to almost be sufficent with the stocker, but it can always use some improvement.
If you don't mind sacrificing the case, I would try cutting a rectangle in it that would leave the protruding part of the battery exposed and let the case hug the phone the way its supposed to. If you cut it just right, the batt should stay in place since it looks like it has a bit of an edge for the case to grip on to.
I'M starting think I should just cancel my order for the 3500 battery and get me 2 1500. What do you guys think?

I'm using the battery from my tp2 as a spare, and carry it in the smaller pocket in my jeans,i don't even feel it there sometimes. With battery tweaks and charging it in my car (usually around 30 min at a time), I only have to occasionally change to the 2nd battery. If you are sensitive to bulk, then go for 2 batteries to split the load, otherwise a bigger battery is more convenient.

Given some of the results from BatteryBoss, I'd say that the battery isn't going to perform at a full 3500mAh. It will still be more than an OEM battery, sure, but I couldn't justify doubling the size of the phone to put it in. You might be better off getting another OEM battery, HTC seems to give about 99% of what they say.
if that site batteryboss is accurate then Mugen's batteries are crap. twice the size for 50% more juice. however, some anecdotal evidence to the contrary: after buying the wrong one, i bought another Mugen extended battery that does work for the TP1 and the recipient is very happy with it. reports that the 3200mAh it lasts about twice as long as the OEM battery.
probably smart to just get another HTC 1500mAh. after the latest update battery drain is much less of an issue anyway.
So can I just go in to a sprint store and ask for a hero battery For free?

The batteries + charger that was listed earlier in this thread work GREAT I've been using them for a few days now great freaking deal ($10 shippped)
Anyone know if the Tilt battery here will fit the Evo with a modified case / back plate? http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Extended-Li-Ion-Battery-RHOD170/dp/B002Y24MJ2
I know Seidio makes a modified back plate that looks like it would fit this and according to battery boss this is the gold standard of extended batteries.
Also confirmed, the Mugen 4500mAh battery for Sprint Touch Pro 2 works in the Evo as expected. It's very... thick. About as thick as the Evo with a jelly sleeve on. Put together it's like the Evo has it's own little podium to stand on.
Assuming batteryboss tests are accurate then true capacity is closer to 75% or ~3375mAh. Main purpose for me is a power supply that can run GPS tracking apps like Cardio Trainer all day uninterrupted. Thickness not an issue since the whole package is tucked away in a Camelback.
Got it on eBay, I don't know where else to find them. Mugen is OOS and ridiculously expensive anyway. An alternative would be an external battery pack that supplies power through a USB port, then cable it to Evo.

Is the battery same as Droid ?

I wanna know if the battery with Droid and Droid 2 is the same. Anyone?
Yes, there's a tear down on iFixit. There they mention the batteries are exactly the same rating and completely interchangable.
thanks mate.!

If I left my phone alone, it seems very capable of making it over 24 hours with nothing but text messaging and random phone calls.
It's too bad there's all this Motorola junk on here, the battery manager screen says its suckin' a lot of juice.
Over all, I'm very happy with my battery life. I just ordered a case, once I get it I'm going down to the Verizon store to see if the extended battery will fit. (with the case)
by the way, Google Voice integration on 2.2 is beyond perfect. I hope Verizon never catches on...
I purchased the extended battery from Verizon (1800 mAh) and am very pleased. I listened to podcasts all day (perhaps 6 hours using BeyondPod), had Audible open all day paused on a book, was driving through spotty coverage with antennae likely doing a lot of searching, watched some video and browsed the web, had e-mail retrieving for 3 accounts and ended up with 50%+ battery left at 11 p.m. My day started at 5 a.m.
Coming from an HTC Fuze, this battery life is amazing. As someone who normally works all day away from power, but likes to use a mobile device for entertainment, this thing is perfect. The extended battery from Verizon is worth it, and the slightly bulging door replacement works fine with the current hard cases they're selling.
Does the 1800mah battery work with the stock battery cover?
No.

The extended life battery from Verizon comes with a replacement cover. Adds around 1/16th of an inch to overall thickness.

No - Droid X uses completely different battery.
You can use the droid 2 ext bat with d1, the cover will be bluish. To hide that you can use either the body glove (motdrdpcovbg / mota855covbg) front from D1, back from D2. The red one can also be used in that manner (from vzw). The front from D1, back (with spot for ext batt) from D2

dont buy the extended battery

i recently bought a extended battery with cover off of the official VZW online store. the battery worked great for about a day until the battery life ran out, then i tried to charge it and now it just started randomly shutting off on me even when the phone said i had about 60% battery remaining. so i left it in the charger over night and now it wont even turn on at all until i put in the regular battery. so i ordered a new one and you know what happened? the exact same problem occured with this battery to. it worked fine for a day, then it ran out of juice and completely stopped working.
so here is my warning to all of you. DO NOT BUY THE EXTENDED BATTERY. it is complete garbage and does not work at all. dont waste your time or money on it because you will for sure have the same problems i did. i am now stuck with 2 non working extended batterys that i need to send back to verizon to get my money back.
I was having crazy issues with my batter acouple nights ago. I never let my phone completely die but it happened this sat. I put it onthe charger then when I tried to turn the phone on the battery meter went from 0% to 5% to 60% then I unplugged it and tried turning it on to no luck... thereafter I put it on the charger and waited for it to get to about 15% and turned it on while still plugged into the wall and it started up. I let the battery charge full and the phone began working like normal.
I am on leaked 2.2, with rubix rom and o/c'd 1.15 and on stock battery
I have 2 stock batteries that I swap daily. If you let the phone die completely you can't turn it back on until you've charged the battery to at least 5%. Sometimes when I swap a battery from a fully charged to one that's about 15% to recharge, it says it's at 60%. Not sure why, but it sounds like the phone's software looks at the readings and says to itself, "there's no way I can go from 100% to 15% when I shut down and rebooted." I'm sure it's just the software being stupid.
I've had the extended battery since I bought the phone about a month ago, never had a single problem with it and my battery life is great...
I bought the extended battery when they became available, and have not had a problem with it. Knock wood

No issues with my extended battery either. In fact, I regularly get 30 - 36 hours out of it!!
Extended here too, no problems whatsoever since it was released. The issue I have is the motorola cases not fitting.
Had I known this, I would have bought the Siedo extended battery instead.

I just bought 1 of the hard cases from verizon and it's allllmmost perfect. No problems whatsoever except for that the 1 spot above the charging port will not stay snapped. i got my extended battery last night. I let it charge for 12 hours for the first time and I hope that helps it. I kind of believe that that is some peoples problem. they don't let it charge long enough the first time. I let it charge 10 to 12 hours and then let it die all the way the first 2 or 3 charge cycles. Then I usually plug it in once It gets down to 15 percent and every 10 or so charge cycles I let it die completely. I can't wait for the seidio 2800 mah battery. Is there any news on a release date? I had the 3500mah battery for the incredible and it was spectacular. I use the phone so much that the standard battery only lasts 3-5hrs but the seidio innocell lasted 1.5 days. A huggggeeee upgrade. But I couldn't find a reasonible case afterwards so I kinda put my silicone case on and traced around the new battery cover with a boxcutter to make it fit. Afterwards I melted the edges with a lighter to smooth them and prevent splitting. The DInc seidio extended case doesn't cover the bat door anyway. Not to mention it doesn't even cover half the edges. I sure hope they design a bettr case for the DX cuz I love their batteries are the best

Are you using the Moto charger?
I had similar problems with my first extended battery for the Droid X. However Verizon replaced it, and there has been no problem since.
As for incompatibility with cases, I use the snap on clear case from Verizon. Had problems with it not wanting to stay snapped together. After modifications to the case failed to correct the issue, I removed the battery cover completely. No issues anymore.
Plus since I use the clear case, I have a nice nerdy view from the back.

I received my Extended Battery two days ago. I love it! It holds significantly more power. And I can still use my Body Glove Droid X cover with the Extended Battery and included battery cover.
Anyway... I rate my extended battery experience as 10 out of 10.
I cant say I noticed to much of an increase but i'm back and forth with modding and o/c so I know lots of that goes into play with battery times.. right now i'm on an UV and I can easily go into a 2nd work day without needing a charge.

Yes...extended battery didn't make a bit of difference...it made a HUGE difference.
It is barely noticeable in size...fits in the multi-media dock, no probelm with my hybrid TPU case...and lasts quite a bit longer.
Or maybe I should say...gets me through to where if I did run out of juice...I'm at home with a charger. Either way...I'm good from 6am to 6pm at least. (i dont call anyone btw). Just massive amounts of texting and web.
I have had mine for almost 2 months and it works great. I deffinitely notice a difference from the stock battery. Would by again if I had to do it all over.

It's good to post your experience, however don't you think a sample of one device and two batteries doesn't qualify as a crappy accessory? I've been running an extended battery since it came out with great results. As a matter of fact a week ago I tried to go back to the standard battery just to make sure the improvement wasn't in my head and the difference was at least 3 hours.
So assuming you aren't frightened at the prospect of returning a battery if it doesn't work for you, go ahead and get one. For a very modest bump in weight it adds a lot of life.

Don't buy the extended battery
I also bought the extended battery from Verizon. It works fine except for a small problem. The built-in battery monitor some times complains that I have installed a non-compatible battery or something like that and suggests that I replace it with the original. A question mark "?" shows up in the status bar and the battery level is not reported correctly.
I picked up "Juice Defender" and paid for the pro model. It says that in last 48 hours It has multiplied battery life by X1.73. I also downloaded an app called "battery Status" which shows the percentage of battery left. Lots of nice options for display.
So what did I do with my original battery? Hmmm I noticed that it is fairly thin so I stuck it in my wallet. Since the ram is non-destructive, I can change the battery when it gets low.
All in all I am very happy with the "Extended Battery" I got from Verizon.

Seidio 3500mAh evo battery...

I bought it and it finally came in today...all I can say is it's the best money I have spent. The fit and quality and reserve power is amazing. Out of the box it had 56% life. I have tried draining it with movies, qik, anything that pulls juice...gps on, wifi on (i know it actually uses less batt on wifi but I have 12m net lol), even have the brightness up...after 2 1/2 hours I have only pulled it down to 40%!
I know there are other batteries that are very cheap compared to this unit but I can say fit is excellent. Power is shocking...it is well worth the $65 to own such a power, well designed battery and back plate. The non skid coating doesnt even fly off my center console anymore. GREAT PRODUCT! very satisfied!

Seidio looks like this:
amazon/Seidio-Innocell-Extended-Battery-Black/dp/B003SNIR7Y
I personally don't like the "bulky" square look on this one. I opted for the Quickshippers version. Much more smooth and "cleaner." Not to mention about 1/2 the price.
amazon/SHIPPING-UPGRADE-3500mAh-Extended-Battery/dp/B0042TY68C
Was in the market for a new case until I saw the Quickshippers battery... My main concern has always been camera protection.. The battery cover alone looks like it would do the job, no?
also anyone in the market for these extended batteries. There is kernel developed that allows for full charging of the them. SBC kernal it comes in sense and AOSP
Here is the link for the Quickshippers option. If anyone has this, let me know what you think in regards to protecting the camera in particular.

I have the same battery and have a couple of tricks you may or may not know. I get about two days out of mine with moderate to heavy usage.
1. when the charge light goes green, the batt isn't full. charge about 3 or more hours over to get a full charge. I charge mine overnight and it's good. If you remove right after the light goes green you will not see much difference from the stock battery.
2. I just recently started running Calkulin's new kernel. I'll give you the link. I use the one that says SBC for Netarchy's CFS More Aggressive 4.2.1 (aka 131) 131.zip (2.91 MB). Find the one that best suites your rom, This one kicks ass. Scroll down to the second post. Here's the link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876590
3. as far as turning things off while not using them, that's up to you. I dont and I still get the great life.
Hope this might help! Enjoy that awesome batt. By the way, bout the green light, the phone only recognizes either when the batt reaches 1500 or it reaches the proper voltage that makes the phone think the batt is full. It was set that way for use with the stock batt. This is what I've read bout and recognized from personal experience.
Not sure I want to **** w the kernel atm. I managed 60 hours and charge the phone every 2 days...its amazing

That's great time. If it works great. The one I spoke of is supposed to be the newest and hottest thing out because of its ability to trickle charge the batt. When I take the phone off charge, it stays at 100% for hours if I dont use it. I've taken it off charge in the morning before just to test it and woke up bout 4 hours later and the phone was still at 100%. I've never fully tested to see how long mine will last as far as hours. I could guess that I would get at least the same as you. For instance, I took it off charge yesterday about 10am and right now I have 61%, granted I have had it connected to the computer a couple of times to download and transfer stuff.

Just picked up a Platinum Series - Extended Life Lithium-Polymer Battery for HTC EVO

I just got this from bestbuy waiting to get a full charge in it before i actually test it. But it does make the phone alot thicker but it might be something i will have to get used to, another thing is my outer box case doesn't fit over it (i kinda figured that before I opened the packaging ) But i will let you know how good it really is.
Well i kinda forgot about this topic. So now im gonna finish typing it.
I have had this for about a month or two and it has been great. it can last me anywhere from a full day nonstop usage to 2-3 days light to moderate usage. It has been great and does what is says so im a happy camper.
It's a good battery. I have one and it lasts me about 3 days before I need to recharge. They are Seidio rebranded batteries, and I also like how they're Lithium Polymer instead of the cheap Li-Ion ones on ebay.
They are great. I am going on 40 hours without a charge and I still have about 40% left. This is with moderate/heavy use.
They are awesome I got mine off ebay for 20 bucks and would definitely do it again!

From personal experience (and LOTS of work with laptops), both Lithium Ion and Lithium Poly like the "goldilocks" zone. Draining them to ZERO will instantly kill a LI battery. But ALL LI and LY batteries AND devices have special circuitry to prevent this, but repeatedly draining them to what your device classifies as zero will shorten its life dramatically.
My brother does this and he needs a new battery every six months.
However, leaving it plugged in can be just as bad. When a LI is fully charged it actually generates pressure in the battery. Again, there is circuitry to help prevent this, but constant over charging (or close to) can cause the cell to "pop".
In general, when you first get a LI or LP battery, should should charge it for about 12 hours UNINTERRUPTED the first time (think of it like stretching before a workout). Other than that, charge it when it's low, and take it off when it is done.
Leaving it plugged in from time to time so that it is ready isn't too bad, just don't leave it on all the time, or you again, COULD pop the cell.
Most manufactures recommend a complete drain and 12 hour re-charge every 6 months (again, just like stretching out).
Happy surfing!

there is definitely a big difference and makes the phone weigh more but you forget it is there after a while (like with i first got the evo i thought it was HUGE and would be a struggle to carry it around).
