Working great on the captivate
the keyboard is working great on the Samsung Captivate. No issues thus far.

The one ported to Nexus one does not install for me.
Can you please tell me where you got it from?

Yes I have this checkbox marked.. also I have Root access on my SGS.
Strange... whould realy like to try the droid x keyboard..
Thanks for the reply Culturelol!

The stock samsung keyboard is also multitouch, you can also do the shift+letter for capital trick

I like the stock Samsung keyboard the keys are smaller so i find i make less mistakes.

Just got that installed on my SGS and it works great. Typing is a lot faster than the Samsung multi touch keyboard. However the prediction and suggestion when tping is not as good as the other input method, is there any way to improve this? Thanks.

It does, but the dictionary has some weird entries so some words don't correct properly. For the most part it is fine though!

Hey...where did you download yours from...cause I installed it on my samsung vibrant and the keyboard works fine but the size of he letters on the keyboard are super small...did you have that happening to you?

I'm very much reliant on Swype now. It even remembers words that aren't English (I use Tagalog a lot). How much does this stack up to Swype? Or am I comparing Apples and Oranges here... or Bananas and Oranges? LOL

Working great on ultimate rom v2.0.
One thing that really is useful is the long press for numbers that auto inputs on release. It is standard on many keyboards but not the sammy one.

Comparing the two, there's one thing that's different:
LatinIME.apk/res/raw/main.dict is larger in this apk than in Doc's one (~344 KB vs 34 bytes). I would guess this is the file containing dictionary words for auto-complete?
To make sure this works with the Doc ones, just replace the apk file in doc's zip (so you keep build.prop that Doc has modified) with the one from this zip file.
FYI: The apk is already zipaligned it seems ("zipalign -c 4 LatinIME.apk")

Looking for a better keyboard

The Samsung keyboard is seriously getting on my nerves so I'm looking for keyboard recommendations. Please post what keyboard you use and what you like/dislike about it. Thanks!
gingerbread free keyboard from the market is the best ive found, only thing is the letters dont have symbols like ? ! on them, but I can live with that for free

+1, free until beta expires in August.
Other good keyboards are Thumb keyboard and Smart Keyboard both of which I've used as well.
I perfer Smart Keyboard. Quite costumizeable. Try it and buy the pro version if you like it!

I'm new to swiftkey x beta and liking it a lot so thanks for the heads up.
But.... the correction and suggestions don't work in the stock email app which is a bit of a bummer. Its sooo much better than the stock samsung keyboard.
Might go ask on the swiftkey web page if no one here has any quick and easy fix.
Edit: Found this is common for after market keyboards on the i9100 email app Have also sent question to swiftkey
Wish there was an easy way to change the keyboard when in an app without going to home screen. On my i8000 running froyo i used to be able to hold the settings button the keyboard and the keyboard choices came up. Any way to access the choise of keybaord easily??????
SlideIT ftw.

Smart Keyboard has been my favourite for quite some time now. Plus I like the keyboard being a little longer as I find I hit the '.' so many times on the samsung keyboard and others. Its got a very good intuitive learning dictionary (think you have to turn it on first in settings).
Smart keyboard is great and has a lot of customization to it.
Personally love Swift Key. Can pretty much type a message only using the space bar.

I personally like Smart Keyboard pro the most. Also the gingerbread keyboard is good but not that good.
I don't know about Skype. I am trying to learn it but somehow it just seems bad..so slow and annoying. Just more practice needed?
+1 for smart keyboard. Tried the different keyboards when I got my nexus one and just felt that the smart keyboard where right for me. It has the feature that makes iPhone keyboard so great that it makes the letters bigger by prediction of what word you are typing "behind the scene"

Lol, he/she was probably overly excited about the ICS keyboard that he/she didn't care what forum he/she was getting into.
So far I'm liking it, I never used the gingerbread keyboard though. I just stuck to the froyo keyboard.
I actually really like it on my Nexus. Its the first stock keyboard I didn't immediately ditch. I think the spell correct and word prediction works really well. Still using it on that phone. Gonna check it out. Thanks

actually getting the same FC as the Gb keyboard. if you type to fast it seems it causes it to force close.
I wonder if this is just a themed GB kb.....

Probably some Samsung app causing the issue.
Just had my first fcs with the ics keyboard as I'm typing this.

I didnt have haptic at first either. It's because it's set to 0ms by default in the advanced settings. go in there and change it to something higher and it will work(I have mine at 35ms which is the default for thumb keyboard)
Has anyone noticed it wont capitalize i to "I" automatically? it will if it's at the start of the sentence obviously but in the middle it's leaving it lower case for me.

You should try the swiftkey x, i changed my htc keyboard with it, and later the cyanogenmod default one ... It is really good, and also has good predictions, learning and so on ...

Just tried it and it seems very promising. For now, I just miss a Danish dictionary but I'm certain it'll come eventually.
This rom > Charmander v 5.0 Has options in 'Tweaks' to remove the arrows, and has alot of other great tweaks and gives immense battery life, I've got it flashed now, very good, would recommend; especially as you can remove the arrows.

I was using Smart Keyboard Pro, mainly because if I selected slovak (which is my first language) I could see a fourth row of keys with our special characters and I didn't have to wait until longpress. It was a pretty fast and accurate keyboard. With HTC One X I'm using Swiftkey, it is just faster as Smart Keyboard Pro, and the dictionary and prediction is a little bit more accurate.
But I must admit, that the HTC's keyboard on HOX is pretty good, tried to use it for a while and the typing experience was great. Also the trace function was working quite well. Don't know about the arrows, but they keep showing up and disappearing based on apps in which they were used.

Yop exactly for this(except the 2 official languages part, I just type in 2 languages, English and Slovak) I have Swiftkey I am using 2 languages at the same time without the need of switching (no buttons nada, just typing away) which is awesome.
OT @Ondro, yeah but it says Home Country not where you currently reside , at least that's how I understood it. Doesn't matter anyway
how are the arrows helping with writing in two different languages? I'm writing in three languages (Slovak, German, English) and I didn't see any use to those arrows, except for moving between input fields or moving in the text itself.
Swiftkey has it solved with a far more better solution, it is simply giving you predictions in all three (or two) languages at a time.
@PAGOT - I changed it was thinking it was my operators country
