looking for a case/holster combo - Droid X Accessories

I'm looking for a durable and strong case and holster combo. I work for a police department and need one for my duty belt that won't let the phone fall out if I'm involved in a foot chase, also needs to be strong in case I'm involved in a fight
What can you recommend?a lot of my coworkers have old droid and they have really good cases that come with strong holsters but they're unbranded

Very noble career if I must say so myself (I'm a 7-year law enforcement vet myself). I purchased a Shell/Holster Combo from cheapdroids.com yesterday. It's the closest thing that I've found to reasonible so far. I've seen similar OEM's on ebay for $50. I spoke to cust service there and they stated that the X only fits in the holster when the shell is attached to the back. This brings the total width of the phone to about even with the hump. I really only purchased it because I'm intending on replacing the ipod with this phone and wanted a good holster for jogging.
I'm guessing this isn't going to work for you though. There's no way that belt clip is going to be big enough or strong enough to stay on a duty belt. Personally I just carry the phone in my shirt pocket. It's slim enough where it's never going to be seen and I've already had to run with it in there; it's stays put.
I'd say the chances of it breaking in a scrap are just as good there as on your belt.

I too am a police officer and bought the stock case from verizon. I would not use it though on my duty belt. The case is strong enough and secure. But if you wear a 3" belt like I do then the clip is not going to actually fit around the bottom. It will only slide on.
IMO no holster is secure enough for working on the road. Brides I don't know about ur department but ours will not reimburse you over 100.00 for any personally owned equipment broken on the line of duty.
Having said that, take a look at sedio cases, they are about the most secure.

If Otterbox comes out with one, get that. A friend of mine has one of their cases and it's bulletproof. Luckily I don't work the road anymore, so my holster works just fine.

GOOD NEWS: otterbox just put up a coming soon for the DX. Although there has been one of those for the dinc for like 3 months. Can't wait to get it though.

For your requirements I would consider a skin from seidio (they are in development now) and then take the X to a leather worker and have a holster made. They will be able to ensure a solid fit and do the basket weave to blend with your service belt. That is if you are using the leather duty belt.

Went head and bought one that they sell at verizon wireless for $30
I\The shell only protects the back of the phone, and you put the screen facing inwards on the holster.
It works, it fits really tight so the phone is not going to fly out, however the spring clip feels kind of weak when attached to the duty belt, but if t\it was to fall off, nothing would happen to the phone as it is very rugged when in the holster.

Let us know how it holds up in a tussle. =)
But seriously be careful out there and thank you for your service.

First time poster...
Been looking for a case/holster also. GO TO BB, they have 3 EXCELLENT leather holsters for our Xs, 1 made by Eddie Bauer, $21, the other by HTC $31 and I forgot the 3rd. I went to Verizon and tried their origional X holdster and it looked too "bulky." Very disaponting. But those 3 cases I mentioned at BB, they fit very snug and perfectly. Im going for the HTC case later today and post pics up. Def worth the trip to BB. Oh, and the clip is very sturdy on all of them but def dont know if it will go over the utility belt...

Has anyone found one that works with the cardock? The Motorola dock that verizon sells has an insert that pulls out that allows you to put the phone in still in the case. However I checked both verizon and motorola's website and can't find a case that motorola says will work with the dock. I bought a case that covers the back and slides into the holster from verizon (probably the same one sp1kez bought), but when trying to put the phone in the dock after removing the insert it hits on a tab that looks like it was intentionally put there to only allow using an "official" case with the dock.

My Seidio Spring-Clip Holster (belt clip) review.

Review: HTC EVO 4G Seidio Spring-Clip Holster (non-cased phone) (MSRP: US$29.95)
Photo Gallery:
Easy to remove!
Tight, close fit to show off your shiny, new EVO!
High-quality plastic makes this one tough case and holds the EVO nicely!
Felt backing unlike anything that I have seen in a holster to protect the screen!
Introduction:
I would just like to start off by saying that, like many of you, I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on the brand new Sprint HTC EVO 4G. Also like many of you, the thought of scratching, dinging, or cracking my brand new EVO just makes me cringe. Also, the dust issues that the HTC Hero had drove me crazy, and I couldn’t stand having any dust in or on my EVO. This is precisely why I’ve chosen not to carry my EVO in my pocket (as I have done with every phone I’ve owned before) in favor of carrying it on my belt. The Seidio Spring-Clip Holster provides the exact remedy to my situation, and it does its job wonderfully.
Initial Impressions:
The first thing that I noticed when I opened my holster was the fact that, unlike any that I had used or seen before, it had a felt interior to protect the EVO’s large glass screen from any sort of scratches or potential dust build-up that tends to find its way into plastic cases. The plastic is very solid, and it is fairly hard to flex. Both the belt clip and the spring-clip used to hold the EVO in place are very sturdy and snappy.
Daily Use:
The slanted ridge on the spring-clip makes sliding the EVO into place a breeze. It felt very natural to just slide my EVO into place after just a couple minutes of use. The clip locks it firmly into place, and it even features a tiny groove in the plastic to ensure that it does no come into contact with the EVO’s power button (I didn’t even notice this until I became curious as to why it never triggered standby mode off). In order to make sure that nothing would become of my EVO in some high-speed conditions, I even tested some rapid, short movements to make sure there was no chance of the phone slipping out. The belt clip itself is able to be positioned in seven different positions for whatever you prefer. Personally (as a fairly thin person), I prefer to keep the holster in the upright position for the most comfortable feel. The EVO, being the heavy-weight it is, adds a fair amount of weight to your belt, but everything just feels natural. I actually prefer the weight because it lets me know everything is still there.
Conclusion:
I’d definitely recommend this to anyone getting an EVO who is either concerned about damaging their device or just wants a nice, professional way to carry (and show off!) their EVO. I find that it is worth every cent because the craftsmanship and quality of materials of Seidio products is second to none! I’ve never had any issues with one of their cases, and I don’t expect to have any with my belt clip. I would also like to remind everyone that there is also a holster available that is compatible with Seidio’s Innocase so you can protect your phone with a solid case and carry it on your hip to protect it from dust, dirt, and lint in your pocket.
I'm impressed!
I have the holster/case combo for my Nexus and it is awesome. Best holster i've ever owned for a phone the springloaded top clip is the bees knees LOL Plan to get this same one you have for my EVO.
I just ordered my case and holster combo from Amazon (half the price than the Seido site)
I had a holster like this for my Treo and really liked it, especially how it tightly hugged my side rather than sticking out like many other clip/holster cases.
The one question I have is how well it will work if you have one of those full-body super-thin skins (like Inivisible Shield or the cheaper versions from BestSkinsEver).
From past experience I found that the corners of the skins sometimes tend to peel away from the repeated sliding in/out of the holster. But I love those skins because they completely prevent scratches and add almost no bulk (but no drop-protection).
Hoping they get the caseless model of the Seidio holster on Amazon (less expensive and free shipping with Prime).
I can't take the cover off for the life of me lol
Any tips?

Thanks for the tip, ordered my combo for 39.
I just got this earlier today. Took pics, and was going to write a review, but I see a great one is already up. I really like this.
I wanted a Krusell case, but they don't make the style I want, big enough for the evo. http://krusell.se/products/1/?catid=50&productid=2854
I found this on Amazon, and it comes in a close second, for me. Wanted a way to carry the phone, but did not want a snap on case adding to the considerable size of the evo. Frankly, drop a phone with the Seidio snap on case, and your Evo will be just as well off, without the case.
Anyway, really just a bump to the review. I jumped all around, and could not get the phone to fall off
Great review. I had just ordered my Spring Clip and Phantom Skinz Carbon Fiber skin yesterday and can't wait to get them. Thanks for the great review as it seems I made the right choice.
Does anyone know if full body zagg or the like can be used with these holsters?

Yes. I have the Chromatic Carbon Fiber skin and clear screen guard from Phantom Skinz and it fits perfect.
Excellent write up, thank you. Based in large part on this thread I just got the combo set from amazon. I hope I didn't just get evo_rick_rolled.

you should be ok, might be a little tight tho
also, the holster will leave some marks on the screen protector... where the screen touches the holster on the inside. this is the reason i went with a hard plastic screen protector like http://www.clarivue.com/htc-evo-4g-screen-protector.html
over all i love these holsters, i have used them on 3 diff phones so far... i do have one of these for the naked Evo im not using that im willing to sell... im using the active case and holster now and i have the rugged on its way.

I haven't had mine make any marks on my naked screen. Given, that may be because there is no extra thickness from the screen protector and the case it just designed that well.

Innocase active or rugged??

I know that this is all based off of preference however I'm stuck between buying the rugged case or the active. I already have best buys version of the innocase surface 2 so I would like to know if should just buy the rugged for when I need the extra protection or just buy the active to have another day to day case like the surface 2. Any help please

neither, buy a cheapo case off of ebay, the store for champions and cheap people!

While the Rugged gives you more protection, you lose one of the biggest features on the Evo; the kickstand. In addition, there have been reports of the flaps covering the ports on the phone tearing off easily.
I'm using an Innocase Active and it's worked just fine. It isn't insanely thick and I'm safe knowing my Evo is safe.
I know this is not what you are asking, but tossing in my 2 cents since it is still the same brand... I would put in a vote for the Seidio Innocase II Surface. Works great. 1mm thick... The inside has a soft lining to keep the phone from getting scratched up by debris... The case has a slight rubber feel to it. Enough to not slip on a table and not to much so you cannot pull it out of your pants pocket...
I purchased both the active and the rugged, which I felt would give me protection for any and all situations. (I am a DOT highway worker and work in freeway traffic every night) After a month of using both I can honestly say I have taken to using the active on a regular basis. The rugged is awesome, don't get me wrong. But the added bulk makes it less convenient to use.
The active provides sufficient protection for daily use and then some. Knowing what I know now, if I were buying today I would buy the active along with the Zagg invisashield.
Hope that helps

and i work offshore in the oillfield. Offshore painter/blaster/rigger. i climb, i crawl, and at alot of times my big toes are hanging off a 40 ft down ledge. before i had the rugged, i had just the seidio holster...did its purpose, kept it out of the way, and secured...now that i have the rugged once its in its holster....i dont have to worry about it if im rigging up a load...or hanging onto a flimsy personnel basket hoisted up by the crane...sometimes 100-200 feet up onto the rig from the crew boat..still, even when im painting or blasting, i go pick up the phone. ...if a blast hose could instantly take off mil's of iron in an instant...imagine what it would do to an evo with rugged case. i already went through 3 touch screen phones doing this blasting job.....2 instincts and a palm pre....sand and touchscreen=fail...
although i'd rather if seidio had a built in screen protector....there was no way i was taking phone out on another hitch without the rugged/otter box.
plus u get inner case with seidio....but i like it with the whole rugged on.......the power button and volume buttons are easy to press now.
thanks a lot for the feedback guys I already have the innocase two and I love it as a everyday case it provides good protection I went ahead and bought the rugged case combo because I figured I don't need another everyday case (which is what a lot of people said the active was) is prefer the option for even more protection to go over my everyday case. I already have a silicone gel cover and the Sprint body glove so I figured another everyday case would be pointless

I use the HTC Messenger Pouch, nothing special, but it does the job its supposed to do & its not bulky...
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Messenger..._1_6?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1296662977&sr=1-6
Yea I used to use a standard hip holster until I got tired of pulling the phone out and putting it back in; now I don't use anything but I occasionally use a clear polycarbonate case when im taking the phone somewhere dangerous (or to cut down on heat when planning to lay down and talking the phone.)
i bought a case for my galaxy S off ebay.
thought it would protect my lovely phone. but instead it gave my phone 3 parallel scratches down the back.
now my phone is bare
Picked up an otterbox defender for my Captivate early this week. On sale from 1to3 Shop or 3to1 Shop or something like that. One of them Amazon deals.
I can't believe how perfect it is. When Ipods came out, I became convinced that Body Glove would rule the protective case market forever. Otterbox leaves them in the dust with the smartPhone cases, IMO.
.
Always the slimiest soft silicone available
No, no case, but my phones are always mint condition because they get their own pocket. Nothing else is allowed in that pocket. I don't know how people can pay hundreds for a phone and then drop keys and keychains into the same pocket. I put all keys and loose change in a separate pocket and wallet in another.
No, they are bulky. Never have
No case here either, I find most of them to be too bulky. I'm careful enough, and don't mind the occasional scuff on the back. Screen protector is a must though!
I bought a otterbox defender case for my HTC4 evo. Phone is too expensive not to protect it in some way.
I also find them too bulky.
I go bareback on all of my phones.
Not since GorillaGlass...
yes. I use an Omni case that was on markdown it fits perfectly on my phone
I don't feel the need to use one.
Have too, one waterproof bulky case for outdoor use, and the other a soft pouch for around the house
Sent from my MotoA953 using XDA App
I have a T-Mobile G2 and I do not use a case for it because it's made of metal, it looks purdy, and it would be a little too bulky for me.
Don't use cases because of the bulk, I do however have an invisibleShield, just to protect me from scratches.
I love my invisibleshield, and I use the Innocase Active on my DI. My husband and a few friends have the Innocase Surface on their DIs. I started out with a cheap (crappy cheap), Verizon case and holster. Next thing I know my DI is on the asphalt shattered! I still don't know how it happened, I think my purse popped it out of the holster. (it still worked! Screen literally shattered, but I put some saran wrap on it and kept using it til I got my replacement!)
Needless to say I have protected it since. And a good thing too, because it has met the asphalt several more times. But the Seidio Innocase has proven its worth time and time again! And its not terribly bulky like an OtterBox. They do have a rugged case you can put on over your everyday case for those times that may be particularly hazardous to your phone.
Sorry didn't mean to write a sales pitch, I'm just very impressed with how well it protects my phone.
i used to use cases when i had an iphone, but now with my galaxy s I prefer not to use them. mostly because i have difficulty finding a good case that doesnt add a ton of bulk.

My take on the otterbox defender.

My brother got me a rooted evo on the local classifieds a week ago to replace my htc hero(Best birthday gift I've ever gotten from him ), so I went into the sprint store and bought an otterbox defender case for $50. I really want to hold on to the evo until something worthy of an upgrade comes out so I figured I couldn't go wrong with the case.
PROS
Build Quality - simply amazing, it makes me want to throw the phone off the 5th floor of my building to test it out
Included belt clip - Lets face it, the case makes the phone bulky and the 4.3 screen adds up to its size. The clip is well made and the case is sturdy in it, doesn't feel like its going to fall off.
CONS
Price - A little steep at $50 but you get what you pay for... which is peace of mind
Plastic Kickstand - The case covers the whole phone, including the metal kickstand. Otterbox designed a second kick stand which is made out of plastic in order for users to keep this feature, the kickstand broke the other day when I gently popped it out in order to show some friends a video during lunch(Hella embarrassing lol).
Heres where customer service comes in, I called them, call got answered almost instantly and I explained the kickstand issue to the rep. I asked him if I could get a new kickstand shipped out so I could use my case again(looks fairly easy to replace). Without asking any questions he asked for my address and shipped out a new case for me. I quickly realized that those $50 I spent really paid off in the end.
Overall the case may have some quality issues with the evo 4g due to the kickstand, but overall great quality and great customer service make me a happy camper
All future cases on my phones will be otterbox cases
I had the same experience with my wife's Nexus One and my HD2 otterbox.
The hard plastic breaks fairly easy but just a phone call to them will get you a brand new replacement in one week.
Otterbox is one of the few companies that still recognizes the importance of excellent customer service. The kickstand issue with the Evo 4G is a fairly common problem, but Otterbox is quick to replace it. Due to their quality and outstanding customer service I have a Defender and a Commuter case for my Evo 3D. The quality of the Defender is even better for the 3D model, AND smaller!! Some of the Commuter cases have an issue with the inner silicone not being tight at the top of the phone. 5 minute phone call with no questions asked and I have a new Commuter case scheduled to arrive this Friday. I had an issue with my Ballistic HC on my Evo 4G and Ballistic acted like the could care less, and told me I would just have to buy another one...... no thanks! These incidents have assured me to be a life-long Otterbox user, an just keeping Ballistic in mind as another option.....if desperate
Big props to Otterbox!!!!
I love otterbox....I have one too. I do have a question tho... If you buy an Otterbox off ebay, and not directly from the company, will they still support the case or do you have to buy it from them directly or an affiliate?

They will support it, heck! I got the one for my HD2 off Craigslist and they still do.
So feel free to buy them off Fleabay.
Supporting the kickstand?
Do they just replace it with the same thing or is it new and improved? They only thing I absolutely hated about the case was the kickstand.
Also the holster's clip can latched in an "out" position to hold phone in portrait on a table too
They have sent me a couple of commuter cases with zero problems after the silicone near the bottom of the phone became flimsy. I didn't want to get another one when the issue occurred for a third time and asked if I could upgrade to a defender series. I told them I would even foot the bill for the price difference and they told me don't worry, we will send you a defender.
Great customer service, but a rushed build for the Evo. The iphone case looks way better, but then again the curved shape and camera sticking out of the Evo didn't help much in terms of making the case.
I switched cases with my brother today (gave him my defender while his gets replaced)
the rubber got flimsy and came off the plastic, he didn't notice and he clipped it on his belt, when he took it out the rubber got torn.
Called otterbox and they sent me a replacement(waiting for it)
Since he works in construction, I gave him my defender so hes protected while I wait for his replacement.
I agree Otterbox is great. I have a commuter case and wanted a new screen protector film. I couldn't find them anywhere on their site so I called to ask where I could order one. She said "you can't order them because they are a warranty item. Let me get your address and I'll send you a couple". Amazing!
I love my otterbox defender I'm never going with any other case you just cant beat there warranty

Having personally used this case, I have to say it is pretty good. I bought it from a guy at a sprint store secondhand (he was upgrading to Evo 3D) for 40 dollars give or take. It retails for about 60 or so, (in the store it did that is) so i felt I got a good deal, even though i neglected to look online for better deals. Anyways, it does what it should, and keeps my evo pristine looking. The only thing is that the plastic kickstand is prone to breaking. It's not that big a deal though, since even though I am not the original owner of the case, I am getting a new one shipped to my house for free. You can't beat customer service like that.

Has anyone tried this holster/combo case?

I just saw that on ebay. I'm thinking about picking that one up. Doe's not look bad for 20 bucks.
looks pretty good to me. something like the ones seidio makes.

except this clips over the case. sprint clips over the phone.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one. We'll see in about a week...
I had originally purchased the carbon fiber case with the built-in kick stand from accessorygenie on eBay (I liked it when I tried it at my local Sprint store, but it was way overpriced), but what I received in the mail today was the case with the Technocel holster and the extra micro-USB cable (as described in the OP) due to a "glitch in the system." They are sending me the actual carbon fiber case free of charge and they didn't require me to send back this holster case to them.
Is there anyone here that would be interested in purchasing this Technocel holster case + micro-USB cable from me for half of what it's going for on eBay? I've uploaded four pictures of the actual product and USB cable on my bed. I didn't realize this before, but the actual case is comprise of two parts: the phone case that encases the Epic 4G Touch, and the part with the clip attached to the holster (which, of course, is bigger than the case itself in order to actually hold the phone and case in place). The very last sample picture I've uploaded features a close-up of the clip and the Technocel logo that is on it. The package is still unopened, but has a small dent in the lower left hand corner of the plastic, presumably from the shipping.
I'm willing to part with this for around $10-12 if anyone is interested in biting. PM me for more details or additional questions.
And just in case you were wondering where it would be mailed from, I live in Norman, OK. I was stuck on a Palm Pre on its last legs for the entire two-year duration on was on contract, and I'm so, so, soooooo happy to have finally pulled the trigger to get a new smartphone like the E4T. It's phenomenal.
EDIT: I just realized I submitted this post before I had a chance to let my pictures finish uploading. =(
Bought the case/holster last week it arrived last friday. Quality isnt the greatest. Case outside the phone doesnt snap around the phone as tight as i would like. Small drop and it comes apart. Holster needs a stronger spring on the clip that hold the phone in place. Wore it to work today for the first time and it came right out of the clip twice when I barely even touched the thing. Should have seen my face when a lady say "excuse me, is this yours" and walks up holding pieces in her hand :O . Im just gonna rock it with a tpu in my pocket until seidio or otterbox releases a case/holster combo.
That blows. I order the case on sunday. It should be here this weekend. I may a well put it right in the trash.

Got my case today. I've been using it for a couple hours. Nothing like the case/ hoster I had for my evo 4g. But doing the job for right now.
If I had to choose again. I would pay the extra ten at the sprint store to get a my reliable case.

i got the one sprint sells, and its not that bad at all. it fits super snug against the phone, only gripe is that it's not as easy to put into the holster like most holsters....takes a lil getting used too
Been using this case/holster today. (directly from the ebay link)
The case fits fairly snug around the phone, though the case itself dosen't seem to click together 100% (more like 99%, small gaps). It fits into the holster quite well. I do IT work in a factory/office environment, so I do a lot of walking around, crouching, laying on the ground, etc. The case hasn't once popped out of the holster on it's own. The holster seems to translate vibration from the phone fairly well so you can tell when your phone is going off. It's also nice that the holster keeps the headphone port accessible.
I have dropped the phone once while in the case. From about 3 feet onto concrete. It popped right out of the case, and while that might seem bad, I think it's more by-design, since it disperses some of the energy from the fall by the case absorbing it and coming apart. The case snapped right back on, no problem, and the phone is fine.
Overall, I like it well enough to keep it for awhile, until a more premium case/holster combo comes out. $20 seems a little steep for it, $12 - $15 would be a bit more fair considering the quality; though it was free shipping, so that kind of evens it out.
