Clockwork not working. - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i am trying to install the .zip from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730136&highlight=adw+launcher&page=2
So that i can get LW's.
I have a rooted slide so update.zip is already there. But everytime i try and run it from recovery. I get "Signature failed" "installation aborted"
I tired DLing the update.zip from the "how to put a rom on your slide" thread but the file is gone.
Does anyone have it? Or know whats going on?

anyone????????????

Where exactly are you stuck at where you have to loop so the device could be recognized also is debug on

Well ive been reading the forums and playing with the phone for hours. And it seems that in order to get into Clockwork recovery after you are rooted you need to flash the ENG build.
Am i correct on this?

Or you can follow the same procedure you used to get in when you rooted.

The ENG downgrade will allow you to use the stock recovery to get into the Clockwork Mod recovery (update.zip) without a signature failure. Alternatively you can use the simple root method to get into Clockwork Mod recovery without doing the ENG downgrade. If you do the ENG downgrade be sure to flash the newest available radio afterwords.

One of the forums best kept secrets is the search button. It allows you to find friends of days gone by. If you clickly the search button and type in "simple root" all your questions will be answered!

I did that. Ive been searching the forum all day yesterday and today finding out new things.
But do you know how many threads there are with the word "simple" "better" "easyer" and "root" in it lol.

Searching for simple root in the entire mytouch 3g slide category currently returns 15 threads, if you search in just the development section it returns just 8 threads. One of which is titled: [Root] SimpleRoot v1.3 (Linux/Windows)

[Q] What rooting method should I use? HELP!

Hey guys I'm new to this forum so please dont chew me out. I have a few questions about rooting my evo 4g on 2.2 froyo. I have done some extreme extensive research in the past week, and I have heard that unrEVOked methods are bad and cause alot of problems. Now im fully convinced that one-click methods are trashy because they dont even tell you what their methods are. So can someone in this forum please tell me whats the best updated ROOT method as of today? (thats not using unrevoked, simple root or any one click methods).
I'd like to know too!
This is my first dealings with a phone that has more than a camera on it (n00b). I pay for the $30 hot spot with sprint, but have been researching and found that you can do it by rooting your evo.
I backed up all my contacts to the sd card and copyed the sd to my pc. Installed htc sync and have pdanet. Thats it, I havent backed it up or anything.
Just got it so its 2.2, 3.30.651.2. I think I read some where that 3.30.651.2 cant be rooted if it was factory installed. Dont know the date of the thread i saw it on but is that true?
Any help about backing up before root would be great as well. Thanks a million

thats a one click method....is that for phones running froyo 2.2? how do i know if that method will work? thats only for phones running hboot 2.02 how do i know i have that?
IMO, some of the older revisions of unrevoked had some issues and that's what tainted their methods. The latest iteration is stable and I would recommend going with it if you are on 3.29.
3.30 requires the s-off method posted above.

Yeah, I've rooted 1 evo with the downgrade method and 3 with unrevoked. Unrevoked is faster and results are the same. Just follow the instructions carefully.
The only change I would make is download the amon ra 1.8.0 recovery .img (not the .zip) and in unrevoked before you start the flash, go to options and choose custom recovery and load the amon img. This way you'll be rooted with amon recovery not clockwork and you're all set.
the downgrade method was the one posted by dan wager (regaw_leinad) in late august right? So the link you posted is the latest one ?
Wait so, how do i get amon RA on my phone? am i supposed to get it after I root or during the root process? What about the nandroid backup? Can you tell me how to do that after i root? I know im supposed to download and flash the 2.2 rooted ROM and do a nandroid back up i think. I need a walk through =[

Yep that's the one. The link I posted is the guide for 3.29 unrevoked. Get the amon recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026.
You load that .img file into the unrevoked app before you connect your phone, there's an option for custom recovery. Once unrevoked is finished. You can boot into recovery and make your first nandroid. After that, time to play
bumppppppp
You don't need to flash anything when you're done. You will be rooted with your current stock set up. Just boot into recovery and go to backup to make a nandroid.
ok that makes sense.... I need amon RA to do a nandroid back up right? can you tell me the process for putting amon RA on the phone? Do i need to do it during the root process? or after? Is the link you provided the latest version of amon RA?
bumppppppppp
Ok, seriously, stop bumping the thread for no reason at all.
The instructions are clear in the links I have given you as well as what I have said in this thread in terms of loading amon ra into unrevoked. You are free to reset to factory defaults at any point if you want to, there isn't any need to do that, as if you ever want to return to complete stock, you can wipe at any point and flash a stock ROM. You get into recovery by powering on the phone and holding vol down.
Your first post says "I have done some extreme extensive research" - clearly you have not, if you had, you wouldn't be asking the questions you are.
This is my last post on this, go read more before you start rooting and screw something up.
Good luck.

unrevoked gives me an option to copy the .img into it during the process?

Cannot get past the HTC loading screen??

First I used this method to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837315
After trying it out i must of missed a step or something cause it would not go past the HTC screen.. at that point i went into HBoot and saw that I did have root but no image on the phone
The phone wouldn't allow me to install a recovery manually..I tried this methods
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834731 I couldn't connect to computer with usb drivers..i installed pdanet and still wouldn't connect so I tried manually and the phone wouldn't allow me to install it.
I then used the same manual method and was able to install the default recovery that comes with the phone. I can't find the link at the moment to that recovery.
I attempted to install the rom before OTA and the rom after OTA..and neither would install using the update.zip method or the hboot pc10img.zip method
I then followed this method suggested

You didn't rename the file you downloaded did you? It must be named PC10IMG.zip for it to work. Alternatively, you can try flashing back the originally shipping rom located in the dev section (since the one from that linked thread was modified to remove the radio and such).
Edit: Link for original shipping ROM (assuming you have a G2).

Strange with S-off you should be able to flash the customized PC10IMG that hot_hands made, may be you had a bad download try to redownload it and flash it again. If not I copied it the day hot_hands made it and have a drop box link for it.

What did you get the original recovery to do exactly?
Anyway,.... if you have the eng-hboot you will be able to use the fastboot commands posted in the other thread to flash the custom recovery.
If no eng-hboot then you will need to use the pc10img method. Have you applied any ota updates? Do you know what ROM was on there before you tried all this? 1St try pc10img method with the rom version prior to 1.72 (1.19 maybe?), if fail again due to older version then use 1.72. Infact as all are now rootable it shouldn't make a difference now.

[Q] I bricked my G2... OOPS.

Hey all. I seem to be in a bit of trouble; I was wondering if any of you could help me. See, somehow I bricked my G2 after following the instructions in the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965. I'm not sure what it was exactly that I did wrong, but it's a brick now nonetheless. I've done a quite a bit of googling before I came here, but I can't seem to find a definite answer to how I should go about restoring my handset. Do any of you guys know what I should do from here? If it's worth anything, I applied the S-OFF fix and it shows as such in the bootloader. Thanks

Well, he had a problem. I used Visionary, too (before the newer method was posted). But its known to cause semi bricks for some people (as the OP has unfortunately discovered). The Wiki method is considered by many here to be safer.
Besides, is the method the OP linked to even a real S-Off (like with gfree)?
You ran Visionary. Use either the rage or gfree methods.

No, the engineering HBOOT does not give true radio S-OFF like with gfree, but that's not needed for permanent root either.

Probably not helpful now that he's semi-bricked. Plus, when you say use the rage method, I'm assuming you mean the guide that uses rage to flash the engineering HBOOT, which it sounds like he already has.
Since you do have the engineering HBOOT though, you can use fastboot to flash ClockworkMod recovery as mentioned in the guide linked to by redpoint. Here's the relevant quote: "if your s-off just boot into clockwork mod recovery, wipe the phone and flash a known good rom and be done with it. if you dont have cwm recovery installed. boot into fastboot (vol down+power) you must have the sdk/adb installed and working, and type fastboot flash recovery LocationOfRecovery.img (where LocationOfRecovery.img= where you have the recovery, ie c:\android\recovery.img). once thats installed follow instructions above."
So basically, download the recovery image, flash it to your phone with fastboot, download whatever custom ROM you would like, place it on your SD card, flash the ROM in recovery.

But try his way first. It should work if you have the Engineering SPL already.
Ok, so first off, I'd like to thank everyone here who participated in this thread; you've been a phenomenal help. So I've got ADB working on my Debian install, however there's a bit of a problem. I boot my device into stock recovery (I can't get CWM on there and the link in the posted debricking guide is broken), but my device is offline in ADB. ADB see that it's connected, but like I said, my handset doesn't come "online", thus preventing me from executing any commands from the terminal. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've been researching this on and off all day and I can't find anything that really describes my problem.
If you booted to eng hboot, and have fastboot on your computer, try 'fastboot devices' and see if it is found. Also make sure you have all the drivers you need.

shipped-roms and the ruu seem to be out of biz, rsdlite was suggested by a friend... seems to only work with moto...
if it helps at all, I do have a dinc 2.2 rooted... problem is my fiance's phone, she accepted the ota before finding out it couldnt be rooted. Is there anyway to utilize anything from my phone to reflash hers?
Any help would be much appreciated... GB update is killing her phone

You should be able to use Unrevoked:
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
make sure you have the droid incredible driver installed on your PC as well.
--
This process should root your phone, you'll then be able to flash other ROM's that may prove to be quicker, drain less battery, more stylish.

Not sure if unrevoked would work or not. But if your s-off you can just flash cwm or amon ra recovery thru hboot, and then flash the super user binary thru recovery. Bam your rooted.
Clockwork Recovery 5.0.2.0 --> http://dinc.does-it.net/PB31IMG.zip Place on root of sd in no folders.
Super user binary -->
http://dinc.does-it.net/su.zip Place anywhere you like on your sd.

You should be able to use Unrevoked:
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
make sure you have the droid incredible driver installed on your PC as well.

This process should root your phone, you'll then be able to flash other ROM's that may prove to be quicker, drain less battery, more stylish.

I have tried unrevoked for 3 times but with no succes. I got a message “Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?”
What do you mean by the droid incredible driver? I just installed the HBOOT Driver from unrevoked.

See my post a couple up.
And for your info unrevoked gave the to new firmware error because you must be on the stock froyo radio for it to work, you are on the latest gingerbread radio. And there is also a newer version of gingerbread out, the official one 4.06.605.3 ruu you can get it in the dev section but if you do go from .2 to .3, do it before rooting as it will also un-root you.

I read your previous post and follow your instruction but with no luck. I tried several custom recovery and renamed it to PB31IMG.zip but always fail. Is there any other way to flash the custom recovery, perhabs with fastboot, adb, etc and how? Can I flash back to RUU Froyo OTA then use unrevoked to get root since I already S-OFF?
Edit: Done! I get root again, thanks cmlusco. The problem is my SDCard which I used in Desire before. After reformatting the SDCard, everythings went well.

Glad to hear you got it working.
My gf finally wants me to root her Dinc and I noticed it's running 2.3.4 and dead stock. From reading here I guess it CANT be rooted now?
Has anything changed since the last post in this thread or is there a topic I should be following to find out when/if/how I can root the phone?

I have the exact same scenario but in the past I have never rooted a phone other than to get rid of software (that sprint forced on EVO) so I have never used recovery. I have been searching but maybe didn't go back far enough to be clear. Do I just copy the files as you stated and then select "recovery" while in the hboot screen???

You take the PB31IMG.zip and the su.zip and place them on your sd card in no folders. Boot into hboot and wait a couple secs. It will find the PB31IMG.zip and prompt you to hit volume up to flash it. Once thats done then select recovery from hboot and select install zip from sd and select the su.zip. Answer yes when prompted to install. After it has finished reboot your phone and install thr superuser app from the market. Thats it then your fully rooted.
Thanks for your help again.
I hit volume up to flash and within about a second it shows update complete and asks to reboot device. I've tried both ways Yes and No, with No continuing on and doing the su.zip as instructed. It doesn't seem to do anything either way. How long should the PB31IMG take to flash?

Cluster or issues..some quidence requested..

Here are the issues that I am having with a T-Mobile Wildfire S. I am repairing for a customer who cracked the screen..
Replaced the screen, the screen is not responsive (wasnt responsive before replacement). I have researched the issue and found this to be common on the WildFire. I have concluded from numerour post that a "wipe" is needed and to access the HTC Stock Recovery. When Trying to do that, I get the "red triangle"
I have researched the stock recovery issue and well and concluded that I need to flash a new(er) stock recovery in HBOOT. Now, since the screen is not responsive, I can not access the setting to enable "fastboot".
So, in short, I have an unresponsive touch screen. I do not (apparently) have a stock "working" recovery and can not access the setting to enable "fastboot" to flash a stock recovery.
Any Ideas here?
So far, I have read to root without S-OFF. tried to unlock bootloader via HTCDEV, needed to update HBOOT first. Found out that the RUU is not current. Headed to footballs list..downloading the latest TMOUS RUU. Going to attempt to flash it in HBOOT or push it using command prompts.
After that, head back to HTCDEV, unlock bootloader..then flash cwm and superuser and HOPEFULLY can just install a pre-rooted stock ROM.
Does any of that sound like I am on the right track for my issues? Or..am I doing too much? Easier process maybe?

I seriously SEARCHED all I could search and didn't find that. 3 days of internet explorer gave me nothing.
Thank you so much for the help!
