DamageControl ROM w/ Sense Disabled - Any Way to install the Sense/RosieUI Clock App? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Folks,
I've recently rooted my device to DamageControl v3.2.3 and am LOVING this ROM. With just LauncherPro, JuiceDefender and disabling SENSE - my battery life has virtually tripled.
Of course, now I'm missing some of my SenseUI apps, namely the Clock/Alarm/Stopwatch/Timer application...does anyone out there know if this can be enabled/installed without having Sense enabled?
If it can't be enabled without going back to Sense, can anyone recommend a comparable app?
Thanks!

As far as i know, you cannot use any Sense Widgets or Apps while it's disabled. I suggest "Better Alarm" in the Market -- it's like the stock Android clock app. It doesn't have as many features as the Sense Clock, but it has enough to still be useful.
Hop that helps.

Thanks for the reply Veritas! I found a solution with a little testing...apparently re-enabling the HTC/Sense lock screen does the trick.
Immediately upon doing this, the HTC Clock app is now available for use! I'm not sure how much of a memory/resource footprint this has, but from my initial testing performance appears on par to my initial settings.
Hope this is a useful post for anyone else out there that's curious.
DC is a great ROM.

I am definitely still new to the ROM scene, but is enabling the lock screen the same as enabling Sense altogether? I still use a few HTC widgets and apps, I could replace them, but if this allows them without turning on the whole Sense UI that would be cool!

It is my understanding (and i could be wrong) but if you disable Sense but keep the lock screen enabled that you will not be able to turn off an alarm if sent using the "sense" clock. You may want to test this BEFORE you need to use it lol.

Omega, I didn't have any problems disabling it this morning. The Alarm functionality seems to be tied directly to the Sense lock screen and native app - as I was able to dismiss/and snooze with just the lock screen.
As a side note, it seems without Sense enabled I can't use the clock/weather widget...it seems to be cooked into the Sense Launcher. However, with Beautiful Widgets I don't particularly miss this feature.

Silver, I don't think the lock screen is 100% the same as enabling Sense as a whole for DC, but I may be wrong. I definitely can't use the Sense launcher w/ just the lock screen enabled, so I figure they're two separate application pieces.
I'm also still green to modding with the Evo, so maybe a more experienced modder or dev can clarify this question? *fingerscrossed*

What Happens if I turn Sense Off?

After looking at some stock images I've noticed that you get more icons on the bottom, whereas on Sense you get the menu, phone and add.
So basically what would I lose by turning HTC Sense off apart from the bottom bar? I currently use the Power Tools widget I think it is, the gaint clock/weather and the calendar.
You can't turn sense off on the desire unlike the hero as far as I know. I've been wanting to goto android basic for a while don't think anyone has worked how to do it

Tried and failed.
Did a search of sorts, came across launcher pro, seems good, a slight slow down at times but I think I can work with this. Lack of leap though is a bit off ...
Launcher seems alright but I tad some at times and I miss some of the HTC widgets so off it goes . Back to Sense.
HTC please let me change that bloody useless bottom bar!!!!
Agreed, its not very attractive but this will most definately be changed with the 2.2 Froyo update

I am so looking forward to it!
Saves me money though as I don't need beautiful widgets or the widget similair to the power tweak widget.
Also it remembered the last state so no moving around once I reverted back :O.
i tried the ADWlauncher and Launcher Pro too for the same reason, the bottom bar i wanted with shortcuts. but i really can't compromise the speed and smoothness of the sense ui with those ones (even if ADW is the fastest 3rd party if you tweak the settings) but most important is the DATA-INTERNET widget which cannot be added in without sense.
i hope that with froyo HTC will enable both launchers and be a user choice which one to use but still have the HTC widgets.

Stop tilt?

I've tried Google without any luck..so I'm guessing this is a no..but I'm trying to find an app that disables tilt in certain situations only. I know I can disable tilt thru the settings..but that disables tilt EVERYWHERE. I'm just looking to disable tilt on my homescreen..while still being able to tilt while browsing Interwebz and whatnot. Seems like it should be an easy enough function..considering BB's have an app for it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok 1 - Android is not BlackBerry. Not even on the same level as one another, so just get that out of your head.
Second off, wtf do you mean on your homescreen? Sense doesn't turn landscape unless you changed the Skin to one built with landscape. Just switch it to the stock HTC skin, problem solved, it never goes landscape unless you open the keyboard.
If you're not using Sense (CM 6.1 or something) check the settings, as it usually has a way to disable homescreen rotation in their own personal settings.
Try CM6. It has the option for a custom power control widget to be embedded into the statusbar. You can put a toggle for rotation too. You loose the sense home and widgets though, but imo stock > sense. Or you could try quickdesk and put a rotation toggle widget on it.

Orly? Android isn't Blackberry? Good to know.
So lets begin...in order to "hide" all the bunk apps because I wasn't rooted, flashed, s-offed etc yet (all the things necessary to remove said apps) I had to download Launcher Pro (which was highly recommended). As soon as this was done..then yes..I was no longer able to use stock Sense. So now..my homescreen always tilts on me..which bugs the **** outta me. Could I just go back to stock Sense? Sure I could..but I'd rather have what should be a basic app to allow me to pick and choose where and when I'd like my screen to tilt. And I've grown to like how my homescreen looks over the stock look. Yes..I can disable autotilt in the settings..but then I can't even tilt the screen into landscape for the browser. So maybe I'm missing something here that someone else can point out..

I am on a stock ROM myself still, but I know that Cyanogen has a lot of customisation options. I wonder if it's worth asking in the CM thread over on the G2 side (because the DZ one is dead) out whether that has options that might help you ?
You want to disable "rotation" all over your phone AND to be able to use the browser in Landscape mode.
If that is the only thing you want, you can set your browser to "landscape mode only"
Now if you have a longer list of requirements on what apps get permisions to rotate the screen etc, I think you may bigger problems

there was nothing offensive or said with an attitude in this post. it was only til you noobs came on here with misplaced android pride. he didnt compare berrys to droids. he simply said they have an app for it.
this is a great question. the tilt function seems almost too sensitive. it would be great to maybe tweak it somehow to make it so you really have to hold the phone sideways....instead of slightly tilt the phone. an app to block it in certain situations is good but i feel that id have to micro manage too much to specify every single situaiton id want tilt or not.
for the record... i'm am a die hard android user and his post did not push my buttons at all. this post is very useful.
ADW launcher has an option in system preferences for home screen orientation.
Just change it from auto to portrait, that's what I did.

Wow no one answered your question. Well here it is, when you are on the home screen hit the Menu - Behavior Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Rotation.
That will disable auto rotation on the home screen. Now go into Settings - Display and make sure Auto-rotate screen is checked. This way you will be able to but your screen into landscape mode when surfing the web or using apps that auto rotate. Now if you want to be able to choose specific apps, that I have no knowledge of doing. Hope this helps.

Tasker (on the Market) can be set up to enable/disable auto-rotation on many different triggers, like when a certain app is launched. Plus it can do a lot more that that! Check it out I think it's well worth the money.

Excellent.
Glad I could help. I know I was having the same issue at one point in time and it was very annoying. I didn't want to give up on Launcher Pro because the widgets are awesome and it gave me "sense" on my stock android! If you haven't played with Launcher Pro Plus, you should give it a whirl. The widgets that are unlocked with it are definitely top notch.

This is the correct answer if using Launcher Pro, I'd assume it would be pretty similar for adw launcher too.

The crazy thing is I actually NEVER played with ADW, yet I keep hearing how really good it is. So good in fact, that some custom ROMS have it built in. Would you recommend it?

Not only those but what about the Friendstream widget? It is damn near an exact replica of the sense widget. I also like how when you use the picture frame widget, you can resize it. That feature is only available on LPP not LP.

Every time I try ADW I am always disappointed with the jerkiness/lack of smooth scrolling. I try it once every few months but never stuck with it.
Definitely Launcher Pro for me, smooth, customisable, practical,... who could ask for more?

[Q] LeeDroid Rom Sense 3.0 odd issue

HI Guys,
First post so huge apologies for any daft questions!
Before anyone asks I did try and search for the answer to this but with unfortunately no avail :-(
Ok, I am running the latest LeeDroid 2.3.3 ROM which is fantastic!
Today I added Sense 3.0 as linked on his page.
All is fine on boot and I'm presented with the new sense. However when i unlock the phone by moving the ring it reverts to my previous patten style unlock. This then leads onto my previous display/s.
The only difference i have is the way sms's are presented.
I can now see in the menu a category for lock screen has been added, but cannot seem to change any settings to allow Sense 3.0 interface to be running permanently?
I hope this makes sense to someone and many thanks in advance for any help i get.
EDIT* i have now noticed that it has the new alarm and incoming call interfaces.
I'm guessing somewhere within the software my old display needs ro be removed!
Regards
Rory
If you have the lock on in settings you can unlock with the 3.0 but you will always be prompted for the code.
Thanks for the reply!
I get that bit, but why do i lose Sense 3.0 all together? It is only there when the phone is locked.
I have just tried disabled the patten lock i had.
So now when i move the lock ring it goes straight to my old Sense displays?
Help.....
Hang on....
I'm not being stupid am I and that is all there is to this patch? Just the lock screen?
If so massive apologies!
EDIT* I doubt I being a moron
The weather page is different too, so it must be a software clash. Lee, or any other android gurus if you are reading this, any suggestions whatsoever as I reckon it is trying to run 2 versions of Sense?

Maybe your getting confused about these Sense 3.0 add-ons with Sense 2.1 etc?
If you flashed Lee's All-In-One Sense Patch (as in my signature) you just have the Sense 3.0 lockscreen, mms, weather. Installing the Rosie 3 (3D) is just the Sense 3.0 launcher, it is not full Sense 3.0, but still 2.1.
Best to install everything after Full wipe all parttions, rebooting between flashes, do not resore system apps & data, make sure clear the relevant apps data as in SEO's thread, reboot, flash Rosie 3, reboot, restore user apps & data / restore market links, reboot CWM clear dalvk, reboot, setup gmail etc and homescreens (do this last)...... I think you get the drift
Cheers that make Sense
I was starting to figure out what was going on too, but the day i posted this was after a massive session of learning how to root, change radio/kernel etc with my phone and a gps issue...... my head was not quite on straight!
Your post hits the nail on the head. I indeed only have the 3.0 lock screen, mms and weather. As of course it should be!
How do you find Rosie 3D?
Btw. Our phones apart from Rosie3D are the same software spec.
If you've flashed the sense 3 all in one, you'll find the Rosie 3D link below it on Lee's thread.

No need to answer as I can see for myself...
If you haven't already, new lockscreen options found in personalize. You can assign shortcuts to the lockscreen from there as well.
Edit: if you slow down spare parts animations to normal, weather animation shows better after pressing power button to show weather lockscreen.

[Q] Remove Sense 3 Lock + replace with gestures

ok, I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756479 and there were some suggestions like the nolock app, wildpuzzle, etc.
I just got rid of cm7 and testing shooter's newest, and yea the 3.0 lock is slow and annoying, but rather than just removing, I would love the gesture feature that c7 offers. Is there any way/ app that can do that while not on the c7 rom?
I did search and haven't found anything yet.
Tnx
Since the lockring style lock screen is a feature of sense 3.0 and guestures are a feature of AOSP, you couldn't easily swap it out. Only a skilled developer(or group) could get this to work.
On another note, I did see an app that replaced your lock screen with one that has a gesture function...but I read reviews of it not being implemented well.
Sent from my supersonic using XDA App
There is an app (free in market) called no lock that works quite well for removing the lockscreen altogether.
I knew that back in the day on Sense 1.0 roms you could replace the Sense lockscreen with the AOSP one. I think you also had to switch out the clock so that you could dismiss alarms or something.
I never did this because I never run Sense, but I remember reading about it. I also don't know if it works on 3.0 roms, but it could be a place to start.
You could also try WidgetLocker. It doesn't have gesture support, but you can place sliders, shortcuts, and apps on the lockscreen. I know it's not what you're looking for, but it's a much easier solution & a nifty app as well.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Thanks guys. I used nolock in the past and the only issue is it does just that, it removes ALL security. So if I can't get the gesture, I would settle for a pin/pattern, etc. Even though I enable the pattern security, if nolock is enabled, it ignores that so it seems with a sense rom it's either ring + other security or nothing at all right?
Grrrr! Thanks

Widgets on lock screen?

(unfortunately the search function is not working for me today for some reason; I tried looking about a bit but didn't find anything - I apologize if there's another thread...)
Well, for the life of me I can't figure out how to add widgets to the lock screen. I did customize my shortcuts as per instructions (just change the ones in Sense, even if you're using a different launcher), but widgets? I read I'm supposed to swipe left on the lock screen, but nothing happens...
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure that feature has been removed since the One M8, even since Android Lollipop.

Not that I know of unless you have a Samsung (Their Good Lock app works with widgets).
Thanks man. Certainly sounds weird!
Sense must allow other widgets on the lock screen, too.
