UK or London Devs, Do you want to work on a WP7 App? - Windows Phone 7 Software Development

I am in the process of designing mockups for an App I would like to see on Windows Phone 7. I am a designer, and so I lack the technical programming knowledge to actually make it into a full App, so I am putting the idea out there, in case anyone is interested.
I posted the idea in the "I need this App" competition, but it is only now I have some UI designs done for it. The App starts in a panorama, but there will also be a need for pivot pages and single pages, which I have sketched on paper, but will be mocking up over time.
When you see the App, you will know why I put the call out to UK and specifically London developers...

If the app is made and is successful, I am sure it could be adapted by others for other cities around the world.

Bloody hell, that's awesome. But is all those traffic APIs really available to 3rd party developers?

The underground API's are pretty sound not sure about the Bus services, but if they were i would deffo pay £5 or so for this app

The mockup does not go into enough detail in showing what the page displays when you tap on the status update, or one of the route tiles.
The Bus APIs seem to provide, the route and the geo-locations of the bus stops. I am not sure if every route and every station is on the feed right now, but these feeds will only increase over time.
I am detailing the makeup and the feed xml node that applies to it, on paper right now. I know what the app should do, in version one, and what other bits of coded is needed, I just have no idea what that code is, or how to do it!!!!
If anyone is interested in helping as coders and UI helpers, tweet, email me, or get in touch via my website. If the app works out, we can charge a small fee for the app and try to submit it. UK will be getting these phones before the USA I believe, in October rather than November, so its a great chance to get noticed!

Someone please help him! this looks awesome, cant wait to see more beautiful WP7 apps, gone are the days of ugly WM6.5 apps

I have now got someone on board who is trying to work on the data side of things. I still need a silverlight programmer, especially those who have experience making custom controls, and has experience with animation and visual states.

I just found a video to such a tube application on youtube (as a new user I'm not able to post links but search for "Windows Phone 7 London Tube application").
But your concept looks much better, so please keep on.

The app currently doing the rounds on youtube is good, but the design of the app posted in this thread is better; matches the design philosophy of WP7 better.

This is just a quick video showing how I may animate the tiles for the app...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIpcOgjN28I

Very nice! Have you found the help you need yet? Will the app be able to give you toast notifications of line closures etc?

I am a Silverlight interaction designer and developer with experience working in Windows Phone 7. I'd be very interested in helping you out with this project. With your designs and somebody surfacing the correct data, I think I could help you pull it all together.
Send me a PM if you're interested in working together

Very nice! I think the animation speed of the route tiles need to be faster. Too much of a pause. As a londoner I can't wait for this. Can you also add have many minutes to tube train arriving at platform as in the other London Tube app?

Fantastic idea for the app, I too will buy this if ever sold.
BTW is their an API from the TFL for buses and their arrival times?

Hows this app going? Im off to london in afew weeks and would love to give this a try.

That application is a great idea for London users.
If it possible to create it for all of the UK?
I also love the design

FYI for people looking immediately, there is a nice lil free app called 'tube companion' released in the marketplace now.
Line Status – Live updates of the status of each of the tube lines.
Station lookup – Lookup every station on the London Underground network.
Live Departure Boards – Display the live departure boards for certain tube station/tube line pairings.
Stations Near Me – Shows the ten nearest stations to the user within a 10 mile radius,
Weekend Closure – Displays the planned disruptions to the tube lines/stations for the forthcoming weekend.
Push Notifications – Push notifications can be enabled to alert users of problems with each of the tube lines.
Here's the only video I could find (pre-RTM), but the app is out V1.0.0.0 in Zune.

London Travel free is up
Hi,
I'm of the developers of the London Travel app. A free version went live yesterday on the marketplace (London Travel). It displays the line statuses and sends notifications.
We're now working on the paid version.

Have just installed it and all I can say is great work guys!
The design is spot on and executed amazingly well, a lot better than dare I say most of the apps around at the moment. It runs great as well.
Can't wait to see the full version with Journey Planner and Nearby Stations etc, hint hint

Thanks for the nice comments!
Yesterday was the first time i could see the app running on a real device, so hopefully I can make improvements for the full app (and an udpate for the free).

i would appreciate feedback and feature-requests.
Your last picture posted here has a grammatical error - 'has been', not 'has be'.
Tried this app. Very smooth.. in fact, a bit too sensitive.. When i scrolled, I keep opened links accidentally.
A ligther background or something more 'relax' would be nice I think. This is a bit too 'dark' to my liking.
hey bro, i tried looking hard, couldnt find the gramatical error.... i might be going blind
as for the over sensitivity, rest assured i would be passing the feedback to obelix, the creator of the slider control; which is used in this app. I have to give him credit for making this awesome control that cuts the development by almost half when designing the UI portion
Would take that as a feature request and put it into my tast list for the next few releases
once again thanks for not only using the app, but providing feedback for it too. There is no point in people just using app without telling us, the developers, what they really want to see. Its after all you the users who end up using it on a daily basis. So thank you!
on a side note, got a nice email from microsoft this morning
Hi
Just wonder - would you consider making this reads the other Singapore e-news intead of just ST? While it's nice to have one app for one news site, I really don't like the idea of filling my screen with few icons for different newspaper.
Just a thought. Of cos', it would have to be a different names then. Ha..
But this programme so far running very smoothly and scrolling is good too. Well done!
hmm, it would increase the complexity of the app, introducing the possibilities of having more bugs. I would avoid that.
moreover i have done up the CNA app as well as the backend of Today app as well... just a matter of time before they become general release items as well
http://www.mobinauts.com/topic/110817-local-app-channel-news-asia/
It seems very cool...but I would like to have this for other newspaper...
the straits time with Windows Phone 7 theme. Nice touch
Definitely gonna try this out. Great development.
looks great! will try it out now

This is great, though wishing there are others like CNA or Newpaper
Also I'm getting this error on my HD2 once in a while after I quit or while using the app (can't take a screenshot for some odd reason)...but other than that, it's working fine. And I notice a 2 second lag when I scroll it way way up or down (till the icons are gone) before they appear again but meh, I could still live with it
Code:

here is another app i did initially: 4D and Toto http://spoolsmobile.appslah.com/
initally planned to do TNP as well, but i soon found out that TNP is slightly harder and they lack online content.
are there any alternatives for things like Australian or UK news? it looks amazing!

PSA barcode reader
Whe've developed the first barcode reader app for Windows Phone 7. Since version 1.3 we've got a significant better barcode detection and product serach. At the moment there is no way to access the video camera, but I think we've found a good alternative solution.
At the moment the app can only detect EAN13/UPC barcodes, EAN8 will come in one of the next versions.
Games games games
Update - version 1.3 is out. Enjoy!
I've published a Tetris (TM) clone on the marketplace right now, which is getting very good reviews, especially considering there is an official Tetris (TM) game from EA out there.
The name is Tetrada and more info is available here:
http://www.appsfuze.com/games/windowsphone.puzzleandtrivia/tetrada,2947
http://www.karios.gr/?p=109 (this also includes a very nice video of gameplay)
Version 1.3, which is a big improvement, is pending acceptance right now, so v1.2 is the current one.
There is a trial version available that allows you to play a single level at a time, with no time limits.
My second game is almost complete, but I will post more about it when info is available.
My First App: Math Flash Card
http://www.appsfuze.com/games/windowsphone.puzzleandtrivia/math-flash-card,2967
This is an app for your K-5 kids to work on their math skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. You can select the number range to work with, and which operations to use. It keeps your score/grade overall and for each area.
I have an update in the works that gives you finer control over the # ranges.
I don't have too many rating, but have sold about 30 copies in a month.

Beat Drop
Think this thread is a great idea to get feedback on apps from the community directly .
I created Beat Drop a month ago and is meant to fill my want of hypem for the phone.
Beat Drop is a music blog aggregator that allows you to follow popular music blogs and stream their music straight from your phone.
It's free 99 so download it and let me know what you think!
http://social.zune.net/redirect?type=phoneApp&id=8dcb4dac-bbf7-df11-9264-00237de2db9e
and yes, I would love to add the functionality to have users add blogs. But with blogs not having a standard way of hosting music, I've opted for somewhat of the Hypem approach of having set blogs that are validated/tested to work w/ my app.
I wrote a game where you touch a highlighted square 20 times as quickly
as you can & each time you pressed it, more squares would appear,
plus they would move & change size. Then I decided I could do slightly
better & expanded it to have 5 levels & to keep record of your fastest times.
I called it TouchMeQuick, its free & its now had over 25,400 downloads.
Its completely blown my mind how many people have downloaded it.
The last app I made available to the masses was for windows mobile & I
remember being over the moon when I hit 300 downloads, so this really
has been quite epic for me.
You can see screenshots, video, etc on my website here: CLICKY :3

- show posters can now be saved to your picture library (they make excellent lock screens)

Hey man, looks pretty good.
One thing that popped out at me: The refresh/sync button in the first set of screen shots. It looks like it will be a bit hard to hit (I've got fat fingers ). For an end users point of view it would probably be better in the application bar (although it may look a bit lonely there).

hello
Thanks for your answer !
it's a good suggestion, we will take care of this tonight
ps: video is (finally) working
youtube tag doesn't work?
Looks good. I really like the fact you get info on every episode of the show. It would be cool if would add reminders and live tile notifications of upcoming episodes. If that was added I'd pay $1.99 and if not $.99.
It is a nice app either way, but it would be a hard sell for more than 2 bucks.

I had one of these types of apps in progress before I just gave up on it due to not really feeling like finishing it. One idea that I wanted to integrate into mine, but never found out if it was possible was something like a calendar sync. You hit the button and bam, it will add it to your calendar to remind you which night a certain show might be premiering or returning to TV.
thanks yor your answers,
for the calendar, we wanted to do so, but no api is available in WP7, the only possibility was for us to access the users gmail account and send reminders in.
But it implied storing personal connection data, and we don't like that.
If new apis are available in new wp7 updates we will probably check it out
for the live tile, I think it will be in a V2
Looking good. Was actually looking for an app like this. I assume it will only show the original airdates in the country of origin? Would it somehow be possible to let the user add a custom day of week, so they can check what shows are on that day?
Hello
We originally wanted to convert airtime to the users timezone, but we don't have the "original timezone' information on tvdb.
For your other question : I didn't really understand what you mean.
(or maybe?) : you would like to see what airs on tuesdays for example?
or for a specific date?
Let's say I've added Big Bang Theory to my watch list. In the UK this show is on a Wednesday, so I'd assign that day to this show. Someone else might be watching the repeat on Fridays, so they pick that day instead.
Then somewhere in the app, I could check what's on each day of the week and if I looked on Wednesday it would list Big Bang Theory and any other shows I've flagged for that day.
It wouldn't have to have to say what episode or anything (no dates or times either), just that the show is on. Like a reminder and personalized TV guide.
I think it would be a great feature considering the fact that most shows air on different days around the world.
Appologies if this is already covered in the app, I didn't see it in the screenshots or video though.
Protip: Please add a notice in the app saying something along the lines of "All data provided by TheTVDB.com" and "if you enjoy our services and can afford it, please show us by donating" linking to our Donate page.
Also be advised there will be an official TheTVDB client in the future, with interactive functionality - i.e. ratings, personalized recommendations and so on. You've done some good work here though. If there are any API calls you feel could be optimized for mobile, do let me know (some have already been re-written specifically for WP7, although they are still in private testing).
Hello,
there is already the "about" section containing informations and links to tvdb. (I contacted Scott about this app)
News :
we added the live tile functionality!
If a new episode airs, the live tile will be updated.

As for price, most might disagree with me.. But I do value the effort developers put towards their apps, and I am not afraid to go as far as $4-5 depending how fast updates and the application works. It's a service to us and an income to you ;-) Hopefully lol.
Hello,
We are currently tweaking the app to make it as fast as it gets and once it's done, it will be sent for validation to microsoft.
thanks for your replies.

I like positive news and this is positive, WP needs to keep up the good work and listen to what we want and need, if they do then I can see them reaching their goals in 2015 but if the don't then, well... it's not good and you all know how I feel about that so I'll spare you my complaining.
The new update looks awesome..cant wait for it..And the best part is that it is totally free!

Agreed, I read some where that the dev of this app has actually been trying to get Ziggy to do more but you know MS and their damned restricted API's. I'n my opinion they need to hire this guy.
The screenshots look cool. I may dl it again.
I tried it before, and 90% of the time the response was just "would you like to do a websearch for that" or whatever it says.
I could save myself time and a couple steps by just voice-searching Bing.

I could save myself time and a couple steps by just voice-searching Bing.

I know I hardly use it my self, I'll use it from time to time to entertain my self for a few laughs but it's great to see it evolve. You have to give it to the dev of the app; he has to improve it even with the MS restrictions.
I really don't like it when developers use a panorama design and put "Settings" as a screen to swipe to. They really should put the settings in the app bar. If he only wants the microphone icon in the app bar then add the settings to the "more" 2 dots part.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to this update!

LOL, I think he did it that way because people asked him to make it more metrofied.
Much better design and definitely if Microsoft know what they doing, they would hire this dude. These are people that are ready to dedicate their full time to Windows Phone.

Then he should look closely at how MS design their panorama apps. Settings are always in the app bar in People hub, messaging, xbox live hub, calender etc
Generally when a user swipes along a panoramic screen its to see more content. Settings isn't more content. Most users don't even fiddle with it each time they launch the app unless they need to change something, so therefore dedicating an entire panoramic screen to it is bad design and not metro.
That is my opinion

It's the case with so many major app developers. It's the mindset from other OSes. That brings us to badly developed apps argument. There is always an app for what we need, if not official, a client - majority of the times. But most apps are so horribly metrofied that it's mortifying. Making apps esp free ones, is an amazing task! But then full hearted approach to match the metro concept will streamline an user's experience and they will love your app more. Else someone too choosy about how his phone looks might find distasteful breaks in his streamline experience. Most WP users gotta be choosy with UI, why else would you love this new UI so much!?
May be people here won't agree, but this is what I generally consider as a factor whether any particular app will stay on my WP. In my WM and Android days, that wasn't an issue because OS UI was ugly anyway. But can't let the UI experience be ruined just because I want some functionality of an app that I might only use once a week or once a month!
Oh this looks so much better. I'm not a big fan of how it looks right now.
I do agree with previous comments about settings. A whole screen to swipe to is uneccessary. Put it in the bar.
I can agree Ziggy looks dirty. I hope developer ask some designers to help him make ui better.
Function over finesse. It's more important to get the core working well, than to tweak the look and feel.
For the most part the real use is a 1 button deal. Make it listen. Make it stop and process.
The app without a function update was only a cool concept, but not much worked properly. Since it is a 1 person team, I am glad the focus is on getting it to function properly.
Once the guts are working properly, it can be delivered. Then, we will have a great functional app while the user interface tweaks are done. Then we will have a superb app.

Special delivery! As we head into the busiest time of year, Android is becoming even more helpful with new features that make it a joy to create, capture, relive, and share holiday memories — all while strengthening security and personalization. Let’s take a look at what’s new.
Keep your family on track this season with Family Bell
Choose which devices you’d like to hear your reminders on in settings
Family Bell helps you and your family stay on track with your daily schedules, wherever you may be. Whether you set up Family Bell on your Android phone, home speaker or smart display, bells and notifications will alert you and your family when it's time for important moments throughout the day — helping you get out the door in the morning, pick up your kids from sports practice or get to bed on schedule. Family members will also be able to set bells on their own devices so they can stay on top of their individual goals too.
For the holidays, suggested bells for new activities include watering a tree, a family movie night or volunteering to support a local cause. Family Bell is always easy to edit, manage and customize from your selected device.
Get more out of your favorite Google apps with widgets
Home screen displaying a photo of a mother and child from the Google Photos People and Pets widget
Widgets make it easier to view the content and information from your favorite Google apps on your Home screen — and we’ve got three new widgets for you to enjoy this holiday season:
Keep that holiday reading within easy reach, access your full library of books and even keep track of your audiobook progress with the new Google Play Books widget.
Enjoy your favorite holiday tunes with the new YouTube Music widget — it puts playback controls and recently played tracks right on your Home screen.
Feel closer to your family, friends, and favorite furballs. Starting to roll out next week, the new Google Photos People & Pets widget puts your family on your Home screen. Simply select a few faces and an appropriate frame, then the widget will do the rest, decorating your Home screen with your nearest and dearest.
Relive festive memories
Look back on great memories with Google Photos.
This week we’re rolling out new Memories in Google Photos that help you look back on the moments you celebrate. These Memories appear in your photo grid and feature a curated selection of photos and videos from holidays like New Year’s Eve or Halloween, to important milestones like birthdays and graduations. And because everyone has their own special traditions, specific controls allow you to rename, personalize, correct or even remove these Memories from your photo grid.
The best of Android, on the roadWhether you're driving home for the holidays or simply going to the store for some last-minute groceries, a suite of updates enhances just how helpful Android can be on the road.
Reply to messages in the car with a tap
You can now set Android Auto to launch automatically when you connect your Android phone to your compatible car to stay connected on every drive. And once you’re on the road, Android Auto helps you get things done so you can stay focused on the road. With smart reply options coming soon, you can respond to a text message more easily with the Google Assistant on Android Auto — simply tap to respond or create a custom message. And you can listen to your favorite music with a single tap of the new always-on play button, right on the Home screen. Coming soon, you’ll be able to use your voice to search for music faster in your media apps on Android Auto. Just tap the new search icon and say your favorite artist or song for easy listening.
Use your phone as a car key
We also continue to introduce new ways to bring your phone and car closer together. Starting today, you can use your Android phone to lock, unlock and even start your compatible car. Digital car key is now available in select countries on Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S21 for compatible BMW cars.
App permissions get a privacy boost
Get notified when app permissions are removed
Remember that mobile game you downloaded a few months ago? Probably not. With permissions auto-reset on Android, your device will automatically turn off runtime permissions—which allow apps to access data or take actions on your behalf—for downloaded apps you haven’t used in a while. You can always turn permissions back on anytime you like, either by opening the app again or through the settings menu. Starting next month, this feature expands support to billions more devices with Google Play services that run Android 6.0 or higher.
Share the love with new Emoji Kitchen combinations
Find the right combination that says how you really feel
Sometimes those end-of-year messages can have you lost for words—and one emoji doesn't always tell the full story. Emoji Kitchen lets you combine emoji into stickers to share with your friends, family, and loved ones. Celebrate the holidays by sharing your favorite emoji in a beautifully wrapped gift box . Or if you’re more of a dog person, make sure people know it with an all-new collection of furry friends . With thousands of new additions, Emoji Kitchen is the gift that keeps on giving and a great way to spread a little holiday cheer. The latest stickers are rolling out to Gboard Beta users starting today and will be available to all Gboard users in the coming weeks.
We can't wait for you to try out these new features while you celebrate the holidays. Learn more about each at Android.com.
