Can Not NAND!!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so I exchanged two evo's yesterday they both came stock with the ota 1.47 I Was able to Root and Nand ONE!! no issues went right thru in 10 minutes using ota method.
Try the second one and I can't get this thing to nand unlock for the life of me. I have ROOT access no matter what I try from Formatting the SD card to trying every and any pc3 file I can find and I either get MAIN VERSION is older or Bootloader checks the file then goes back to the main bootloader screen and does nothing.
I am able to flash roms of course except those that require nand unlocked. So I currently have software version 1.32.651.1 release keys
WHAT am I doing wrong?

If you posted in the "Question" and Answer (Q&A) section you'd probably get more help. This section is for the development of software, roms, and fixes.

Unless your posting something you developed or talking about working on a group development/fix, it doesn't really make sense to post in development. Best of luck with a fix though.

Well apparentlyits getting a bit of attention here you two came in and looked. But thanks for the constructive on the point advice lmao.
As a side note I solvedthe issue using the three step easy root. I will link to it later when I get home

Can someone link or show me where to get a rundown on how to root Froyo?

I am coming off a bricked phone so I am a little apprehensive about trying to root without a clear guide, especially froyo since it just got rooted from my understanding. I am sorry if this isnt in the right section, I really couldnt tell if this belonged in the General forum as it is a question, or if it belonged in the development as it is regarding Root/Roms. I would appreciate any help, and even any remarks on how I am misposting in this forum .
There is no root for froyo if you installed the official updates. You can try the previous methods but I doubt they work. You may be sol until someone decides to work on finding an exploit but I doubt that happens until there is an official release. The only rooted froyo that is out is for people who were rooted prior to froyo. Sorry.
If you have Froyo OTA (from Sprint) installed, you cannot yet root it (if/when someone releases root instructions). You have to already have your phone rooted with nand access and then install one of the rooted Froyo updates (there are two right now, from Avalaunch and netarchy). As well, there is a AOSP FROYO from cyanogenmod.
The wiki from toastcfh for this forum gives all sorts of instructions and options for rooting. Good luck.

So please don't murder me for this question, i'm a noob coming from a pre.
I updated(or i should say my phone automatically updated) the 2.1 sprint image from the last update with the SD card Fix. This was before I got to this forum about rooting, etc.
Are my options to only go to the sprint store and get a replacement phone if I want to root now? Or is there a way to backtrack.
I tried to root last night but kept getting daemon errors when trying to connect to the phone. :S

What software version are you running? From homescreen go to menu>settings>about phone>software information and give me your software #.
1.47.165.1
I thought I could with this, because this is what the simpleroot software is showing in the program.
I did a full erase also last night with the volume down power button trick.
search for simpleroot 1.47 either on google, youtube, or here. there are loads of vids and tutorials
Also, there is a Q & A forum and would suggest you use that next time you have a question. You'll get your ass handed to you for posting in the dev section.

Simpleroot is the best option to root v1.47. Unrevoked has known issues, AVOID it. Simpleroot was made from my earlier posting & guide of manually rooting 1.47, so I know it works. WATCH THE VIDEO he made!! It practically cups your nuts the entire way thru the process with both PC & EVO screen videos. Once you do simpleroot, I recommened doing toast's part 2. Right after that do a nandroid backup. Then apply one of the rooted Froyo ROMs posted in the dev forum (there are both odex and deodex versions posted).
However (as already stated numerous times in numerous threads) if you apply the OTA update, your screwed.

+1. People need to understand what they're doing before jumping right in.
OP- Now you'll have to go back to the nandroid backup that you hopefully did before flashing the ROM, unroot, upgrade the radio, and then re-root. You've created some extra, unnecessary work on your own part, but it will at least get you some more familiarity with these tasks.
Directions can be found with a quick search of the forum.

You really really really REALLY have to do your reading/research before making any changes to your phone's OS. If you would've read the very FIRST post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737400, you would not have missed the big red letters that state you MUST have the new radio or you will have issues with your phone and instructions on how to install it right below.
Now I assume you have to downgrade to 2.1, un-root, install the radio, re-root and then install 2.2 ROM. Can anybody confirm?
Good luck.
Thread moved to General.

just rooted my stock 2.1 using unrevoked 3.21, what next?

Im still on 2.1, 1.39, my phone will not do OTA 2.2, says its already up to date but its not...I rooted using unrevoked 3.21, so now I'd like to know if there is any other files I need to update, radio, etc.
My goal is to upgrade to 2.2, so if anyone can direct me now that im rooted as to what else I need to update and how can I update to 2.2 I would greatly appreciate it, and keep in mind my phone is not doing OTA, so I will need to do it some other way.
On another note, if I select a custom 2.2 rom, will this already include everything I need, or do I need to 1st upgrade to 2.2 then find a 2.2 rom? I guess my confusion is are 2.2 roms "compatible" with 2.2 phones, or do 2.2 roms already include everything.
Thanks in advance

Im not trying to be a ****, but... Read any of the links on this forum.. they are 80-90% about what your asking..
also, I would recommend a RUU to TOTALLY wipe your phone..
Food for thought.
I agree with both of the members who just posted to your reply.
Reading the stickies would be helpful instead of wasting space on the "Development" forums for your "Questions".
I believe that it's ignorance that we do not like, not questions from newbies.
..you should "search" the forum here for flashing the Hboot .76 so you are FULLY ROOTED.
If you already have done this then you can click onto these threads you see and decide for yourself on a 2.2 ROM that you like and flash it.
Remember, you should have the correct radio and wimax flashed as they have updated since 2.1.
Additionally, you should READ all the instructions and do it step-by-step before you flash anything.
Last but not least of importance, make a NAND back up before you do ANYTHING. (have Amon Ra 1.8 custom recovery; will have saved an image of your phone+wimax partition).
If anything goes wrong, go back to recovery and NAND restore.
*Read first and do not be lazy. - Everything you need is already documented. This is not a QA forum but you can find it by going back one step and looking for Q&A.
Good luck.
Thread moved to the Q&A.
@jontorres,
Unfortunately, the other members are correct. You posted in the wrong section. For questions or comments not related to development, please post under Q&A or under General. This will save you a lot of flaming.
There are many stickies, but since you already rooted your device, simply download Rom Manager from the Market, download any rom you want (I can recommend myn TwoPointTwo) and flash it using Rom Manager.
There is also a whole section with themes and apps that you can browse. For questions regarding said apps or themes, either post in the corresponding thread or simply in the Q&A.
@Sporkman,
Please refrain from calling people names (referring to your "lazy" comment in case you are wondering)

At least you offered more help, however, its not IGNORANCE.
I HAVE already searched, unfortunatley alot of these threads are from someone like myself who "asked" a question, which in turn received HELP, however we all have different questions and although they may appear the same sometimes they are and sometimes they are not.
In my case I already rooted my phone as mentioned on my 1st post, and my question was simple and did not warrant all this nonsense:
My question was quite simple:now that im rooted, do i need to update any radios or other files, and do the 2.2 roms "already" contain the core 2.2 software "or" are they simply "compatible" with a phone which already "is" 2.2.
See none of you actually read between the lines at my quesation, you simply assumed Im asking the same question everyone else has already asked, so the same way you guys tell me to "read" 1st, I also suggest read my question properly.
As a matter of fact I even pointed out an issue with my phone to help in receiving a more accurate answer, because on another forum some moron said "do the OTA" and he failed to read that i clearly mention my phone says its already updated and nothing to update, YET it is clearly 2.1.
But anyways, apparently when you ask for help around here it obvious if your a newbie you just get smart remarks.

The unfavorable remarks aren't because you're new, don't worry about that.
The safest way to be sure that your phone was completely up to date was do all OTA's before you rooted, since Unrevoked 3.21 is capable of rooting and nand-unlocking even the most current software on the EVO.
It is not necessary for you to be on the most current baseband radio or PRI, but a lot of people on here like to be the most up to date. Pros are that in general you'll get a better battery life (due to a more reliable radio connection) and better 3G speeds (questionable).
Also, your question is not simple, as I am not clear what you are talking about.
do the 2.2 roms "already" contain the core 2.2 software "or" are they simply "compatible" with a phone which already "is" 2.2.

What does that mean? What software? Also, stop using unnecessary quotation marks. I don't think you're using the right terminology, but I'll guess at what you want:
If you mean the radios, bootloaders, etc, then NO. ROMs contain only the operating system and possibly the kernel. Everything else is lower level stuff that you'll have to update via the appropriate PC36IMG.zip file. You'll need to search those out in the Development forums.
You can run a 2.2 ROM on outdated basebands and PRIs.
Honestly, you seem a little too frustrated with the free help you ask for on here. If you realize your mistakes, apologize, and move on you'll find the community here a little more receptive to your needs and slightly more willing to help you out.
I know the search feature may be a little complex, so don't be afraid to google your questions first.

[Q] New and want to root

I would like to start with an apology,
I have been reading what I could for a couple weeks now and am just honestly confused.
I have a sprint evo 4g and would like to root it.
I have seen a few posts saying it can't be rooted because I took an update a few days ago and don't know if I blocked myself from root. Also I was wondering if I just reset to factory would it undo the block?
Again I'm sorry if this question has been previously answered.

I am new here to, as far as posting. I love this forum, but there is ONE bad problem; there is TOO MUCH information on some topics. Search is easy to say, but very hard to do and sift through sometimes HUNDREDS of posts and still not be able to find what is needing to be found.
I swear, I wanted to find if there was a STOCK ROOTED ROM, available to me, and all I could find after an hour was a listing of I think maybe 50 ROMS, and NONE of them stated it was a ROM that would unroot my phone, or if my phone would stay rooted after the flash. I still dont know. I gave up looking.
I purchased a launcher pro license also, but I'm finding that I like GO Launcher EX and most of the GO Dev team's apps better. It's far more customizable and bacon-y.

Crappy? I own both phones and the 3d is nice, it has a couple bugs that need to be addressed but the dual core makes it much faster and I'm getting about 13 to 16 hours battery life on a stock battery, I'm barely getting a little more than that on my extended battery in the EVO... Sidenote: the OTA gingerbread update made me switch phones, my og evo hasn't been the same since

Here is a stock rooted rom for when you get root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153 There are a lot of things to view in this forum but honestly it takes time to understand stuff. I did not learn to decipher new from old and right from speculation right away. You got to sip through the crap and especially before asking certain things. Hey better yet PM a person if you have a question and you think they may be able to answer you. The mods made changes in this forum as well as others a while ago to make developers post things in a certain manner to make it easier. I read this from one of the stickys... which I recommend everyone to read..

some people with your version were rooted prior to the new software upgrade so that is why you see them rooted. Right now you have to wait and believe me when it is rooted you will know and no need to ask anymore. Keep checking Develpment section.

Yes, you are able to acheive root through flashing a pre-rooted rom but aside from that, no, you cannot get root just by re-rooting. S-off just means the security flags are off for your device meaning the boot loader doesn't discriminate files. As long as it's PC36IMG.zip you should be good to go. If you want an appropriate way to flash roms, I suggest looking at twrp. It's sexy as hell and I love the red rum theme for it.
It's the first themable recovery, and it looks great. Then you can look at getting cm7 or any other rom you want regardless if you want AOSP or Sense.

Thanks. I remember when I took OTA update and thought that I was screwed, but only to find I was S-off. There was a thread where I flashed amon ra recovery and was able to flash a custom rom (mikmik). I went back stock and have not messed around with my EVO (other phones and tablets Lol). Just been out the EVO loop lately and was not sure if flashing amon recovery was the preferred method still.
Going to take a look at the recovery you suggested and give it a go. I'm just so use to cwm. Even having amon was a different feel for me.
The dual core processor is probably the difference other than that is the same crap and I forgot to mention about the 3d camera its horrible!! Htc said you don't need glasses I just a video for a few seconds and got dissy it doesn't make any sense about the whole 3d deal. And also why would they lower the megapixel of the camera specially if your going to have a 3d phone? I think no body is able to use the 3d feature because of the quality

Clockworkmod Recovery?

I did some forum searching & Googling but I'm not able to find a reliable, working method of getting CWM recovery on the Note II. I want to keep the stock ROM, but not the stock recovery. I'm rooted with stock recovery right now.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

"look harder"? That doesn't help me much. I used that "search in this forum" feature, where I typed in "clockworkmod" and came up with no results. A threat talking about rooting doesn't necessarily mean it will discuss CWM (I also checked the thread here for information on CWM, since that's the root method I used, but no dice). Not really sure which thread you want me to play hide & seek with.
Sorry to say but the person who responded to you is right... look for a thread that contains root for the note II

Which part about my post is rude? I think you might be misinterpreting...
I'm very serious that if you are unable to find the post with the information you want based on the instructions I gave, that you have a high risk of screwing up your phone by flashing stuff on it. That's not being rude. That's trying to be helpful. Asking you to PLEASE not flash your phone is so I (and others like myself) don't have to spend the time trying to help you fix your phone afterwards (and so you don't have to spend the time asking for that help.)
Not everything on these forums is spelled out and spoon-fed to users. It's assumed that they have a certain amount of innate ability and prior knowledge. Lack of that ability and knowledge results in broken phones. I'm trying to help someone like that in another thread - they flashed the wrong thing to their phone and now, basically, they are screwed.
Granted, I might not come off as "newbie friendly" or even "user friendly." I'm an engineer. I'm one of the folks that make the things that people like you flash. For some reason people like me don't usually come off as being "nice."
I'm going to try (again) to be nice. Here's a link to a post I think it'd be good for you to read. This post tries to explain in a different way what I'm trying to say here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2031989&postcount=45
I suspect that if/when you understand that post, you'll better understand my replies.
take care and good luck
Gary
Thanks, it's sometimes hard to read tone on here, so i apologize for any misunderstandings.
I think i have a really bad time finding information, not because I'm a newbie at flashing, but probably more so due to the fact that development in this phone is so fresh, there isn't much information to centralize yet. But once i find the information i need i can usually handle the work involved.
I ended up finding the post you were talking about (well, i can only assume). Unfortunately i didn't find a walkthrough or step by step instructions. But at least i know a better place to find the information.

Does it have to be cwm? Because for rooting, chainfire has cf root. And for recovery, twrp already supports our device. It's all in the original development sub forum. Won't be hard to find either. Those two things are the only threads existent there for now

Actually, that's a good idea. I had used the CWM Recovery originally on my i317, but found that when I tried to restore a backup I made with it, that nothing was actually restored. TWRP, on the other hand, seems to work okay backing up and restoring.

Twrp has come a long way. To be fully honest, I kinda hated it at first, I don't even have a clue why, since I didn't try it prior to forming those feelings about it. But then I actually got to flash it, after some self convincing, on my s2 lte and it grew on me very quickly. And now, I prefer it over cwm

If you need exFAT then use CWM which comes with CF_root which you can find the Original Dev forums. Use Odin, click on PDA then select the CF-Root.*.att file. It's that easy.
One thing about TWRP is that it doesn't support exFAT formatted SDCards, so if you have a 64GB like most folks on here & need exFAT for larger than 4GB file size, then CWM is the only way to go.
I think i may just wait a bit until more options become available. I don't need it right away. I'd rather sick with CWM since that is what I'm familiar with.

That's entirely up to you. Although I would suggest giving twrp a go, even just to try it out. My favorite features in it are the option to name your backup in recovery prior to creating it, and the fact that it actually does things faster than cwm
