Edit htc ime mod keyboard? - Desire General

Hi - How can i edit the keyboard so there is a £ sign instead of a $ sign when you do a long press f?

I'd like to know this too.
I can't believe they burried the UK £ sign in page 2 of the extra characters.
Can someone provide a 1 button hack?

Well, not really a 'hack'.. and perhaps a bit dirty as well
But if you use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And then in worst case you can add the £ sign as a smiley, and then it's a near 1 button solution (or you just use the £ sign instead of smileys, that'll do just fine as well!).
I'm not sure if it's possible to change keys with that mod as well (only looked it at for like 5 seconds), but I'm sure some customizing is possible. So perhaps other stuff next to smileys and .com stuff is editable!

Thanks - i am running that mod already - good idea to put it in the smiley's section
If anyone can come up with a way to actually modify the long press f key though that would be great - not only for us brits but i'm sure the europeans wouldn't mind a € sign & obviously other currency signs too would apply...

I'm using V27 and whilst the F key shows a $ symbol, if I long press on 'F', I get a pop-up with $, € and £. No need to go to 2nd page. See screenshot.

Cool - thanks for letting us know - i didn't even try that as i never have the need to do a long press F - always went to the 2nd extra characters page... :-D

I see that inamak got his wish, but for the other custimizations is there any way to edit the characters that appear after a long press? I am also using HTC IME mod on Froyo.

Especially since the phone released in Europe first. It should have has the £ and € pop up first. Luckily I'm in Australia....

Change Keyboard Unlock

i was just wondering if there was anyway to change the key combo to unlock the keyboard, maybe a reg edit or some application.
I wish there were. I hate the combination they picked... I always miss that stupid "star" key. I think it could be possible by altering the keymap file, but then it would mess up the star key and move it somewhere else. heh
Hi,
I've been looking for an answer to this question as well, but so far no luck. I had a thread going in regards to this with a couple attempts at work-arounds if you'd like to have a look:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2099988
Here's to hoping!

In my personal case, I would like any key other than the current *Z key, as my *Z key barely works anymore making the unlock process extremely tedious
how old is the phone? Maybe it wold be best off to get a replacement from your provider. Just a thought.

I got mine in October of '07, but it wasn't through my provider (eBay). It worked fine and the malfunction of the *Z key is my fault (puddle ).
I would personally prefer the left softkey (like it is now), followed by a press of the second softkey... or even the spacebar
i was thinking the left softkey followed by the right softkey or maybe the left softkey in combination with the talk key or vice versa
id like the lock on my car door to be on the roof cause im tall...but its not gonna happen

But if there were keyholes everywhere, you'd still wish it.
Well don't say it's not gonna happen.... A developer could easily write a new app to do this. A keyhole in your roof is not impossible to do, it just takes money

They'd have to be just about the coolest developer to ever develop!
*hint hint* *nudge nudge*
yes. any developer who could code this what be greatly appreciated and will please a lot of people.
I got an idea.. let's ask Technology. I mean, if he was able to write his super bluray, megavision, imax, 3d, etc codecs from scratch, this should be a walk in the park for him!

Take a look to Automatic Keylock by maniac.
1. Disable 'Automatic keylock' option
2. Enable 'Screen saver' option
3. Setup all timeouts...
Now you can unlock your phone by left softkey or home button
That's some great software and I installed it on my phoen in a heartbeat. But how did you get it to unlock using the Home key or ANY other key ? There's nothing like that in the app's settings or in their forums...
I see how it works now. You don't use the phone's keylock routine... you let the screensaver come on and then it's unlockable by using the left softkey (or any key you want) or the home key. There's a problem with that though... It only requires ONE keypress. It would be way too easy for it unlock in my pocket that way. We really need a combination of two keys, that can be customized.

Manually launch HTC Keyboard?

Is there a way to manually launch the keyboard?
The reason I ask is I my partner visits one of her forums on Phone and when it comes to adding posts (using a system not to disimilar to these boards) she can't get the keyboard to appear?
Any suggestions?
If anyone needs to know the forums are on babycentre.co.uk
Press and hold menu I think.
What do you mean by "manual launch"? When you click in the textarea or input field it shows up - is that not manual?

Please click one of the Quick Reply icons in the post above to activate Quick Reply?
I suspect that the forum doesn't support the latest Android browser she used to have issues browsing the site when she used her g1 but she could at least edit the text box
It's ok I disabled javascript on her phone and can now use the reply box. Cheers anyway. Oh and holding menu did nothing on either of our desires. :/

One solution could be to manually relaunch your partner, but that is probably a more cumbersome and less satisfying method.

£ sign on keyboard

Having done a search of the forums I have found a cab file for the HD2 which will put the £ sign as a long press on the f button but cannot find anything for android.
Does anybody know if this has been done for the android on the desire as this would make it much easier to select than having to go through to the 2nd page of the numbers screen. Or if the $ sign can be changed to £. Thanks in advance.
Hmm I get the feeling you will probably have to install a customisable keyboard
Would be as simple as editing the IME. I say simple... I don't know how to do it, but know it can be done.
Thanks for the reply,s is there anybody out there that could edit the IME as I don't even know what it is. It would be handy for UK and maybe European desire owners on the long press on the F button if we could choose between the £ and Euro sign.
Thanks Again
Oops sorry didn't read the op's message properly.
There's someone who's edited the keyboard to have a microphone icon on it. You could try contacting him and asking him if he would consider adding the £ sign in the next release?
I don't have time to search but there's a topic on it somewhere in this forum.

[Q] How do i get a £ (pound) symbol?

I have tried every setting and cannot get the text or email keyboard to display a £ symbol rather than dollar sign.....
Help!
On my keyboard I press 12# to get the numbers, and then 1/2 to get page 2 and there it is.
Thanks for that got it now
You would have thought they would have exchanged the $ for the £ on the main keyboard especially as its set to english (uk)????

I remember reading something once about changing it on the HD2 it was definatly possible, but can't find the thread it was prob about 10months ago, and not sure that it would apply to the Desire HD anyway :-(
More importantly, how can I get € on swype?
€ sign on swype
For the € sign just press the 'sym' key & press hold '#'
ANy news on getting the £ key on UK keyboards?
You could install swiftkey. It's a much better keyboard than htc's. It's free in the amazon app store today only. Go get it.

Amazon app store isn't available in the uk.
Sure it is. I was just on it on the browser on my dhd. Google it.

I stand corrected. You are right.

Equals Sign oh Desire Keyboard

There is a thread on this already but the answer didn't make sense to me and the two words I have to type to login to the main site don't agree when I type them so I ask here: how do I type an equals sign on the standard Android keyboard?
The answer given was hold down the 12# key and then the 1/2 key bottom left. There is no 1/2 key bottom left on my keyboard ...
Presumably there are a whole lot of currency symbols as well but when I long press on the f key I only see $ which seems very strange.
Please help me with these mysteries.

If you're talking about stock, isn't it like this?
1) Press the [?123] key on the bottom left.
2) Press the [ALT] key above the [ABC] key?
It is on stock Andoird ROMs but the OP doesn't say if they're on stock or Sense

Yes and no ...
It seems that the misunderstanding is because the instructions are in American whereas I speak read and write English.
'Press' in English means 'push down and hold' but it seems that 'press' in American means 'push down and withdraw'?

Makes me American then I've always treated 'Press' as 'Push and Release' unless told otherwise.
Suppose its all how you interprete it

OK well I'm from Aotearoa and in Aotearoa press means what it says in the English English dictionary I glanced at which is 'exert a steady pressure'.
It's only important when one needs to know in a given procedure - like rooting - exactly what one is doing.
Perhaps the consistent meaning on these forums is the equivalent of a mouse click not a mouse click and hold?
