powerless travel charger

hey all, I stopped in at wal-mart today looking for nothing in particular, and I came across a travel charger for usb device that runs off one AA battery. I am not sure how much of a charge one would get out of one battery, but it was only $10 so I am not too worried if it turns out to be not all that great. Just thought I would let you all know it existed, for those who might have been planing to build the minty charger seen on an online tutorial.
I'm considering trying this:
OPTI-UPS SCS001 Solar Panel Charger for Mobil PHONES, MP3/MP4,CD PLAYER, CAMERA, PDA, W/FLASHLIGHT $51.60
Though it's 1100mAh Lithium Battery is less than what most of our phones have, at least it will provide more juice than an AA along and provides a solar panel to slowy recharge.

What do you buy if you want to charge your EVO on the go?

What is the best device to order for EVO owners who want to charge their EVO while they are not at home and don't have access to a battery (remote or on the go charger)? I've heard of boxes that have a battery in them that you charge at home and then while on the go, if your EVO needs it, you can plug your EVO into it and get a few full charges. I would like to have one of these. What is the best gadget to get that may be preferred by the community that will give me the most juice for the money in the shortest amount of time while remaining safe and comparable with the EVO? I also own a Motorola H17 bluetooth headset. It uses the same connecter type for charging. So, it would be a nice little bonus if such a charger would also charge this headset. Thanks for any responses.
I have an 8000 mAh one by energizer that I got off WOOT for like $50. It will charge a dead evo to full in about an hour. And will charge it 5 times on a charge.
It is smaller than the evo and thicker.

I have this too from woot. Love it.
Swyped on my EVO
To anyone who replies, can you please provide a model number so that I and anyone who may be reading can use the information? It would be very helpful. I mean especially when you say you got it from woot which sells a single product a day at a good price and today's woot has nothing to do with cell phones.
So what's the best charger for the EVO when you're not near a power source including it's brand and model number?
Thanks.
Duracell has a AA nimh charger that also has a usb charge port on it. I bring that along in my car glove box and on pane trips. The double AA batteries can also be taken out and used in my camera in a pinch.
Where did you get Swype for your eve? Does the eve have to be rooted for aswype? Thanks Jerry
Just purchased the 8000mAh Energizer battery pack on Buy.com for $49.99
With free shipping. Also comes with an iPad tip, if you need it. The cool thing that I didn't know, is that it'll also charge my netbook. I have an Acer Aspire One D150. I seldom run the battery out since it's a 6-cell. But now I can just charge the Energizer up and take it in place of the PSU for my netbook and use it for my Evo, too.
I've been looking into getting this, would help me on the long bike rides...

I can't say with certainty but the price and mah rating lead me to believe that they're talking about the Energizer XP8000.

Solar charger project

Just want some opinions and ideas from people here since this place gets ALOT of people visiting and alot are clearly pretty intelegent.
Bascially i bought a car solar trickle charger that has an output of 4 watts and 18volts, my plan is to attach a female car socket to it plug a car charger into that, stick the solar panel in some light and plug the phones/mp4 players ect ect usb to the car charger and get some free daytime energy.
Possible? stupid? too good to be true?
This is the little adapter id plug the car charger into this adapter will be connected to the solar panel by alligator clips.
This is the charger it self made to trickle charge a car battery but im hoping that in some light itll have enough output to charge a phones battery and similer devices.
MOD EDIT: REMOVED EXTERNAL LINKS
No one has anything to say?
i'm already using a solar charger
just buy a solar battery backup from Deal Extreme
let it charge under any light source
then hook up your phone to it
done, presto, clean and simple
and you get to choose any size capacity that you want
i got a 4700 mAh

Iv already experienced that and they are crap, the solar cell is so small on ALL of them that charging takes days even tho its listed that itll be fully charged in a day which is utter crap since its an impossibility no matter how much sun because of the output of the solar cell and the battery they stick inside is a generic li-ion battery that wears out very quick.
one i had was a 1900mah battery and the other was 3200
mah or something and even when they were fully charged for days that couldnt fully charge any device..
This is why i want something that can fully charge a device directly from the sun rather than having to store the charge in order to charge anything, later on i can hook up a battery and a diode to store some of that power but for now i want something that isnt a lie and will just work.
edit: oh i thought you meant one of those mini solar chargers that trickle charge a battery all day sorry, yeah my plan is to store the charge from these two huge solar cells hopefully it will directly charge my devices without a battery tho.
Got some solar cells at home, was gonna try this, but need to find em first

Neat, i think to use thise you would just have to link some together attach then to a wire -to a diode- to a wire-toa battery and then hook that battery to what ever you want to charge. If youclink enough up you maybe able to charge a device direct from the sun.

Here's a few charger options...

Well Tokie, for your car, u can use something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Universal-Car-Charger-Pc-2ca/dp/B004YZI1T4
One of the ports will have a 1.5amp output and will suffice to charge your battery quickly.
And if you have a tablet or wanna go ultra crazy in charging your battery n burning it U can use something like this:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364269
That one has a 2.1amp output as well, enough power to burn a hole in your phone's battery LOL!!

ill let youknow once it comes in lol 2.1amps haha will my incuerence cover that in case of a fire
I use 2.1 amp in the car and it charges pretty fast even while streaming spotify or radio through bluetooth with screen off. It helps to get through a day of heavy usage without swapping a baterry.

For those of you who are getting an external battery charger, will you let me know if it manages to charge the batteries to 100%? I currently use a universal battery charger, which worked great for my other phone batteries (would charge them quickly and fully, so when I popped them into my phone, it showed 100%), but for whatever reason, when I try to externally charge my Nitro's battery, no matter how long I leave it or put it back on the charger, it will only reach 88% or so. Then I have to fill up the rest by putting the battery in the phone and charging through USB. I know it's not my battery (I have two, and they both do it), so I'm just curious if other external battery chargers might be better. Let me know if it works for you! If it does I'll get whatever kind you have. I'd be super grateful, thanks!
I'm getting a legit LG battery charger specifically for the nitro. It'll take me about 2 weeks to get it (coming from LG itself in Korea) but when it gets here I'll try it n will let u know how it goes.

Btw Itiskonrad, where did you get your batteries from? Is it from that ebay seller or you got it from somewhere else? Just curious, cuz I've been searching everywhere, but nobody else sells it but that guy.

I ordered 1 extra battery AND the battery/batterycharger/cable from the ebay seller I mentioned earlier.
The batteries seem legit, they last just as long and have identical plastic casings. However, the two batteries I bought from ebay have a different sticker/label on them. They do not have the "FCC" markings on them or any other american legalese on them.
As far as the charger goes, it works great. I carry a battery in my wallet, one in the phone, and one in my backpack. I really like the peace of mind!
I also got mine from that Ebay seller. I'm confident it's legit. The build is identical, and it maintains charge and behaves exactly the same as the one that came with my phone. It's just probably the battery for the Asian Optimus lte, hence no fcc and different labeling. I'm not worried, and I'm pretty careful about batteries.
@red solo cup, do you know if the charger manages to bring the battery to 100%, ie, when you pop it in the phone and turn it on, do the battery stats actually say 100? My current charger brings it to around 90%, which is not bad, but if I'm going to buy another charger, I'd like it to max out the battery completely =) Thanks!
I have not checked Battery Monitor Widget immediately after putting in the battery, so I cannot absolutely confirm that the battery charges to 100%. However, I have noticed that the battery in the notification area was completely full, including the little "nub" on the left of it.
I will check this out when I get back from work tonight.
If the nub's full, it's at least at 95% I'm pretty sure.
Damn, I don't mind getting it from him, but he posted that it will take almost 20 days to a month for the item to get to me! That's frigging much too long for shipping something overseas. Things I get in China or HK doesn't even go beyond 2 weeks the longest.

I checked and the LG charger does indeed charge the battery up to 100%
@aquariuz: I really cannot recall how long shipping took as I ordered the battery on the 15, and the battery+charger on the 21st. I was away for the holidays, but by the time I got back to my place on the 28th they were both in my mailbox.
You're the best! Thanks a bunch! Ordering mine ASAP! =)
24v input
Has anyone found any dual USB (2.1a and 1a) with 12 - 24v input? I run crane and sadly in most of our cranes the Cig Lighter socket is running 24v.
I have a few 12 - 24v input single USB chargers with 1amp out but.. I'd love to find a dual. I have to run my speakers and charge my phone or mp3/RADIO -- seeing as how Optimus doesn't have a FM tuner

I found this on amazon. The specifications specifically state: "Input: 12-24V DC; Output: 5.0V DC 2.1Amp" Plus it is only 5.99+free shipping.
I have this and the specs on kensington's website state "Input: 10V-18VDC, Output (30pin/USB): 5VDC-3100mA.", So I assume that will not work.
so if i have to buy a car charger, what is the MAX specs i can use for the LG OPTIMUS LTE?

wall charger

has anyone found any of the chargers (square ones with purple etc light)
that plug into the wall and hold 1 battery in them that work.
All the ones i've tried only charge to 88 or so percent.
thanks
Although my post offers you no solace as to which charging dock will charge GSIII batteries to full capacity, I"m pleased to finally learn that I"m not alone. I've ordered a charging dock from ebay that will be arriving no later than Thursday. Its 34.99 and comes with an original battery much like the OEM charging dock. I'll check it out and give you some feedback on it's performance.
I'm also looking for a cheap external battery wall charger.
Something like this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Battery...-S-3-SIII-i9300-US-AU-EU-UK-Pin-/251082870040
Will that work or am I at decent risk that it'll stop charging at 88% like the OP?
Any other suggestions? Is the battery the same size as the battery used for the S2 or any other phones so that I can use a wall charger made for a different phone (since this phone is new, maybe accessories haven't fully ramped up yet).
