"Top"-Button next to each post? - About xda-developers.com

Hey!
So, I have my options here set to show 50 posts per page, but one thing I really miss for this is a button next to each post which brings me back to the top.
Sometimes I don't have to get all the way to the bottom in a thread and when I want to get back to the top, this means a lot of scrolling.
This gets even worse on my HD2...
If I'm at 3/4 of a page and want to get back to the top I have to zoom out and scroll ALL the way back to the top or to the bottom.
I've seen this feature in many fora, but I really miss that here
Would it be hard to implement here?
Regards,
Lukas

Hey-- this is an entirely reasonable request, and I will put it on my list. We've been a bit behind recently in fixing vBulletin bugs (and adding new features) because we lost the developer who was helping out with that stuff. We're currently trying to find someone who knows vBulletin inside and out. If you guys know anyone, send me a PM.

Chome Action URL and icon number for IE

I'd like to edit or create a sliding panel in Ookba's latest EVO ROM release for IE. I have an idea of how to do it (or at least try) but would appreciate it if someone could post the action URL needed for IE and the icon/picture number. With those I think I can get into trouble on my own. I did a semi-serious search but didn't turn up anything that helped me out. Thanks in advance.
You guys are not following the rules!
This is a 3VO Rom question, and it should be posted in the proper thread , not make a new one.
All you guys are doing is making more clutter , more amount of results , when someone does a search. Please keep questions in the proper thread.

True Speak!
In genral the front page has become multiple "questions already answered" & "even non smartphone related outside of appropriate thread"
Yeah i'm b*chin
b.t.w roloracer your service icons look sweet
Okay, delete/move thread since I don't have the ability to do it.
Nailed On Da Cross !!! Lol
The funny thing is that in the time it took you to type up your admonishment I'd be willling to bet at least one of you (if not both) could have provided me with the info I'm looking for. Maybe a "Please keep all related threads together and by the way.." response. Just and idea. Everyone, including you, was a noob once.

two suggestions

First of all, I really enjoy the site, thanks for having it. It's an awesome place to come and get the info I need, and if i can help out others.
Anyways on to the first suggestion. I mostly stay around the htc hero (CDMA) section, so I'm not sure if this issue is site wide or not, but I've noticed a TON of spam. I realize moderators try there hardest to clean it up, but with such a large forum it's close to impossible to keep it clean, and I understand that. I think we need some sort of initiative to keep people from posting just for the heck of it. for example in the thread for the damagecontrol rom, I had to go through pages of spam to find useful info. People were posting things similar to "wow i've refreshed so much my f5 key is broke haha", c'mon that doesn't help out at all. Veering away from this subject a bit is all the people that just say thanks for the rom, perhaps this is a mod for vBulletin. I know there is one for IPB that adds a "thanks" button to the original post so people don't add "thanks for the stuff" posts. I don't know if everyone agrees with me but I'm really annoyed with having to go through page after page to find useful info.
This leads me to my second suggestion, which I'm not sure about. One idea I have to help organize the threads would be to add a wiki post right below the original post. I don't know if there is a mod available for vbull. to do this. An example of what I am thinking of would be here at slickdeals.net:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1906634
you can see in the wiki post, someone edited it to alert everyone that the deal is dead. I don't have to go to the last page to see this, it's right there. I truly think something like this would greatly improve organization and readability.
Thanks for reading and looking forward to reading responses,
-sam

[Q] Members Online Tool...

Well,i see on the end of the page, the members who are online at that particular moment...cant we make it forum specific???i mean this would help members to see who is online in their respective forum and thus,if there are questions,we can PM that without wasting much of a time...this would also help the forums be more friendly and helpful....the Members Online tool is a good idea, but it doesnt really reveal as to which forum the member belongs to...also,hunting for a green spot along side the names in the threads becomes tedious and time consuming...
I'm guessing it would add a performance overhead to the page load times. Not many people visit the index.
It's up to the admins whether or not this get's changed though.

Well it could always be made an option that is disabled by default. That way only users who really would like the ability would see it (it could be coded in such a way that there would be no wasted resources used if disabled). Personally I would like to see this and some donation-users only features. I think it would be a great way to add services while covering overhead prices.
$Not many people visit the index.$
when you mark all forums as read your go to index..
please hide this featuare.. ..online user.. for my an normal user is unusable.

I was just thinking of a sort of buzzer (with a chat option) to get someone attention, for now if you have a conversation with another member you always have to refresh your page to see if you have an pm.

yeah, but still a enable/disable option for forum online members is also a good idea!!!

poll for a new option on the XDA site

I want a extra option on the tread with the ability to agree with some one.
I read the most post on my phone with the XDA app.
And i find it hard to read stuff that is relevant for me to read.
Imagine how hard it must be for a dev to find relevant post........
There are a large number of users who post "+1, +100000, +1!!!!!" replies with no bearing on the thread. I'm thought of adding an "Agree" button would alleviate that.
That you could see that also (like the thanks button).
Something like this: The following (numbers) user are agree with this post.
I hope that it will help.
My hope with this poll is to see how many people wanted this.
So the question is:
Do you think this is a good idea (the agree button) to put this on the site?
Someone PM me, to ad also here the poll to create more vote's.
So let's try it
The main thread is here.
@ everybody, Please take your time to vote, because I truly believe this could work!!!
Many thanks.
Greets
PS if you don't think this is a good idea, please let me know why...

Can you please remove the single-click unsubscribe from emails?

I don't know if it's just me, but I frequently end up unsubscribing from threads when I what I really wanted to do was view them.
The layout of various email notifications from different forums are all different, and in my experience most of the time the "visit this thread on the web" is the first link under the response. In the case here the first link completely unsubscribes you from the thread without any confirmation request. I then have to go and resubscribe again.
Most other forums have a confirmation page when unsubscribing - is there a reason there isn't one here?

We balance ease of unsubscribing with having a confirmation dialog to ensure member wishes to actually unsubscribe. Given that balance we err to the side of unsubscribing right away because we don't want people to mark our emails as spam. It is easy enough to re-subscribe to a topic as well. But I'd be interested in hearing others opinion on this.
Nothing makes me more mad then having to sign in when I want to cancel a subscription. That being said, I usually enjoy the XDA emails I get, but for other sites that I need to sign in to cancel email bombs, but don't know my login information. I get angry.
Keep as is.
I appreciate the perspective, but I don't see either of these points as a barrier.
How does requiring a simple one-click confirmation inside the web page change if the email is viewed as spam? In both cases the email is identical. If someone manually is flagging the email as spam then they obviously aren't active in the first place (anyone who is active wouldn't do that).
Also I didn't say that you had to log in to unsubscribe. A simple one-click confirmation inside the web page is all I'm proposing. Considering how it currently launches the site to complete the unsubscribe this would only add 2 seconds.
Personally I don't see any issues with the current email layout.
The link to the thread is at the top of the email, and the unsubscribe is WAAAAY at the bottom. I have no idea how manage to click the wrong one
Because a lot of other forums have their links all at the bottom, and the first link is usually the one to go to the web version. I'm on a lot of different forums, and I have (unfortunately) developed the habit of just clicking the first link after the response in order to see the response in it's full context.
Oddly enough other forums also have a confirmation for unsubscription.
When there's a 1-line reply it's also not "all the way at the bottom".
How about this then: Instead of a confirmation, how about just a "Did you click this by accident? Click _here_ to resubscribe" after the "You have successfully unsubscribed" message?
That way if you intended to do that then there is no change at all, but if you did it by accident it's easy to undo the action.
