Class 10 Micro SD Cards - EVO 4G Accessories

How come only class 10 Micro SD Card I can find are Kingston brand? on Newegg.com review said it has horrible write speed although it is a class 10.. Can anyone point me to the right direction on best class 10 micro SD money can buy? (16gb at least)

I don't mean to be a jerk, but, do you really need a card to move data that fast? I mean I'm all for speed but really, don't sweat the class ratings so much.

Yea, I spent $100 on that Kingston class 10 16gb micro sd and I was severely disappointed. I think the problem is that the phone doesnt need to read and write data that fast. It makes caches of all the pictures, album info and art, and anything else if needs.
I spend $53 on the San disk 32gb class 2 micro sd and cant tell the difference. So now I'm using the 16gb as a flash drive for my key chain.

Where did you find a 32GB card for $53??

I think he might have gotten it when Verizon screwed up there website and had it for sale for about an hour for $50.00. That is how I got mine for $50.00

Verizon's online store the 1st day they listed it. They were supposed to have sold the card for $150 to anyone, $99 to people buying a droid x. Well, they dun goofed up and someone listed it for $49. I think its still listed for $99.

microSDHC Card?

Any recommendations for a microSDHC card? I'd like a 16GB. I've been reading up on Class 2, 4, 6, and 10 cards. The consensus seems to be that Class 2 is adequate for most phone usage, except perhaps for recording 720p video.
Any thoughts on this? Brands? I'd like to grab a SanDisk from Office Depot for about $32.
I got an 8gb class 6 for $20 (search newegg for item N82E16820208453 i cant post urls yet sorry).
I figure I may be able to use it in other gadgets in the future and it was only a few dollars difference from a class 4 or 2.
An 8 GB doesn't seem such a bad idea for a starter. I have an 8 GB iPhone 3G right now, and I'm trading it to my daughter for her iPod Touch 8 GB. I'll use it for podcasts and music I don't listen to much.
I'll probably trade up to a 32 GB when they come down in price, and maybe in the meantime I'll grab another 8 GB as a backup / extra "film roll" for trips.
Class 10 is meant for super fast write speeds needed for higher end video capture and the like. Usually DSLRs and such. You'll see a significant price difference for class 6 and class 10 cards. I doubt the Aria camera and system really needs, or even can take advantage of those speeds. Best bet is any basic card I suspect. I prefer going authentic Sandisk >=8Gb. I've been burned recently by DOA Polaroid labeled cards so I'm going back to Sandisk from here on out myself.
I ordered a Class 6 Transcend 8 GB card off of NewEgg. I wanted a Class 6 16 GB, but one comment in the reviews scared me away from the Transcend 16 GB card:
Pros: Reasonable price, good transfer rates.
Cons: When trying to partition ext2 anywhere besides partition slot 1 it returns:
"ERROR: input/output error during write on /dev/block/mmcblk0"
Makes it so you cannot use apps2sd for Android.

I wasn't sure if this would apply, but I didn't want to risk it. The 8 GB reviews all said it worked fine with Android phones.
The 8GB card was only $20, and I figured that I can probably deal with that until the 32 GB cards come down in price. Also, the 8 GB card was a 5x Customer Choice Award Winner, with 624 reviews. Since my iPhone was 8GB, I'm pretty sure I can live with that for awhile, maybe getting a second one to take on trips.
I personally like A-Data, Transcend, and Kingston. I've had compatibility problems with Sandisk before. I like these brands because they've never given me compatibility problems. I've bought a lot of cards from Transcend, but recently, I'm leaning more towards A-Data because their cards are generally pretty fast, like this one.

I got a 16GB card from Sandisk on Newegg for cheap, slapped it in there and it worked perfect. It is a SDHC card also but so far no issues at all.

I got a 16gb microSD class 2 from frys for $17.99 after mail in rebate sounds like a good deal to me. The brand is polaroid by pny, but who cares about the brand.

I've been using the stock card, but used an A-Data 16gig class 6 to root the phone. I'm planning on buying another one to use in the phone. Class 6 may be a little overkill, but i use it in my helmet cam, and i'd like to keep a spare one around. i doubt i can fill 16 gig on the phone.
Bunnie Huang of xbox hacking and chumby fame has done a forensic analysis of a handful of microSD cards in the pursuit of the best quality to include with the chumby device. He determined, among other things, that:
"Kingston is revealed as simply a vendor that re-marks other people’s chips in its own packaging. Every Kingston card surprisingly had a Sandisk/Toshiba memory chip inside, and the only variance or “value add” that could be found is in the selection of the controller chip."
The article is an amazing read.

You'll fill it up quickly if you load all your music on it. Personally, I'm looking forward to when 32GB MicroSD cards are more widely available and the prices are a bit more reasonable.
I picked up a class 2 16gb Polaroid from fry's and I've had no problems. Usually I would never go for that brand (usually go with Kingston or patriot) but the price was good at 25 bucks. Have had no problems whatsoever with it.

16/32gb microsd - where to buy?

I have a HTC Desire and im after a larger storage than 4gb included.
I'm a bit wary of class 2 cards in fear they will be very slow. And I'm also wary of fake cards on ebay for example.
Also does class 4 vs 6 make a large difference?
I want a 32gb if its the right price (and not class 2?) but im not sure where to buy from. The site must be able to ship to new zealand.
Thanks.
I know that Verizon is supposed to be selling 32GB microSD cards, not sure about the class but I don't think their class 2. There normally $150 but have been on sale for $99 at least 1 or 2 times. So even if it is a class 2, still better than the $199 price for the Sandisk 32gb one on Amazon. Either way good luck, I hope you find the card your looking for!

I bought a 32gb from http://www.jr.com.
Seen the verbatim 32gb mSD class6 at amazon for 89$/free SH, and seen the 16gb's from 25-60 depending on brand/speed
Hey just wondering, where are you getting info on the micro SD cards? All I have found so far says 2 is faster than 4. I'm not saying I'm right your wrong but I just purchased a class2 today under that assumption.

lol. that is regular sd card not micro sd.
There is not a 32gb class 6 micro sd card on the market as of today.
Yeah, class 4 is about twice as fast as class 2 cards. I would say the best price/speed ratio right now is the Kingston 16GB Class 4 MicroSD card. Best places to buy micro sd cards online would be Amazon and Newegg. There's hardly any bull**** with the products on those 2 sites.
Amazon UK - You've now got 32 gb class 6 micro sdhc at £88.00 link class 4 at £85 link . I just ordered a class 2 for £64.49 including postage - link
Hope it helps.
Uhmm, a bit of confusion in my mind, wich class is enought for my Galaxy S?
The 'class' rating on the card can basically be thought of as the tested minimum transfer speed (sustained - not random. A random write can far exceed the class rating).
class 2 (~1Mb /s)
class 4 (~2Mb /s)
class 6 (~3Mb /s)
and the highest I've seen is class 10 (~4Mb /s) which I doubt any of us are going to buy.
So far as I know, there is NO CLASS 8 - don't buy one, it's probably a fake. By the way those ratings are in mega bytes not mega bits if you need the bit speed just multiply by 8.
Now if you're ever told 2 is faster than 4 you can laugh in their face - when (dealing with technology) has a lower number ever been better???

I meant to answer this earlier but any class would be more than enough for the galaxy s. The reason you want a higher transfer speed is that loading 8, 16, or 32 GB of data can take forever depending on the type and amount of data. As far as the phone is concerned, a class 2 is fast enough for a swap file, video/movie, or music.

I agree, the phone is going to max out before the card does.
Hey gang. I am new here. I just purchased a 32gb card class 2 for my Samsung Vibrant. I noticed it handles just about everything except recording hd video directly to the card. The first few seconds during playback show as rainbow colored garbled pixels then clears up to play clearly. Reduce the recording resolution of the video and it plays fine. Record hd video to phone then transfer to card and it plays fine. It is a brand new card (kingston) with next to no data on it so far. Anyone else having this issue? I am thinking I need a card with a higher class rating.....

To record HD video smoothly you are gonna need at-least a class 4 and maybe a class 6. Class 2 doesnt write fast enough to keep up, thats why you had the pixelation distortion.
As far as a 32gb class 6 card, I am afraid we are out of luck until these cards come onto the market. Samsung has been working on a new card I heard.
Hoever, newegg does have class 4 cards in 32 gb for around 100 bucks.
Hope this helps.
UPDATE
there is a class 6 32 gig card I found at amazon but it is a "Komputerbay" brand so buyer beware.

$49.99 - 16GB Duracell

Who knows good places to buy memory cards in EU?
Hello. On ebay 32 gb class 10 is maximum 50 dollars, 16 gb is max 27 dollars. But i dont trust if they are real or fake. You know, they make Samsung's, sandisks fake and no clue to understand if it is like that.
So, where is best to buy, cheap and safe? Amazon, ebay?
And what brand, kingston Samsung, Sandisk?

Anybody tried this 32 gb sd card? Awefully cheap, is it worth it?

Found this on Ebay, don't know though. It comes out of Shanghai and the price is cheap. I'm more worried about cheap crap wrecking my phone. Anybody try one of these yet?
http://cgi.ebay.com/SanDisk-32GB-mi...gital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item1e5e54d767
it won't wreck your phone, but it will probably die after a few weeks - if that long. If you but it, be prepared to throw away your money at some point and all the data on the card.
SanDisk probably won't warranty it because it is probably counterfeit.
don't think u ever will get it
last 16gb card i bought over ebay was about 7€cheaper then all the rest and i never saw it - got money back by paypal thats why i tried (and he had about 100 positive votings).
this seems to be about 50€ cheaper then a normal 32GB card and he has 0 votings - so he propably tires to get the money and vanish into dust before Paypal can claim the money from him.
would buy something more recent.
I bought a 16gb kingston class 4 on amazon, it was around 45$, and they had a promo that if you signed up for an amazon credit card you get 30$ off your first bill. so bought it and paid it off for 15$.
Honestly, with Froyo coming soon and apps2sd, Id really reccomend investing in a good class 4 or 6. The faster the speed of the card, the faster your phone will be able to pull and push data to it.
Another note, my class 4 can move large files at about 8-9 mb/s, but if there are many small files it will only run about 3 mb/s, so Id really recommend a reputable brand. That is not to say the kingston doesnt work good, just to say one of those cheapo 30$ cards advertising class 6 will probably run much slower and break apart quickly
Good point about the speed issue. Can't wait for Froyo.

Class ratings apply to write speeds not read speeds. Theoretically you can write faster to higher class cards, but this usually applies to direct writes on the device (camcorder recording to card) not USB between phone and PC. The USB copies (PC to phone) may be faster, but you have a additional overhead of the USB bus.
Buy a name brand card. I have an 8Gb Sandisk class 2 and it works great for Camera, camcorder, and anything else i want to do with the phone software. My 1080P camcorder has class 6 cards, but it requires it.
I'd steer clear from buying memory cards/ usb flash drives on eBay. I've seen way too many people get scammed on getting what they thought was a 16gb flash drive and end up with a 128mb stick with 16gb screenprinted on it. These microSD's are no different.

Actually I tested this using the sdhc adapter directly to the SD card slot. so no USB/phone interface interfering here. And again, thats what I was stressing. Buy a name brand card, probably a class 4 or 6 considering the move to froyo.

So you got the same MB/s throughput with the card reader as well as the phone connected to the PC? Still puts the USB bus in the way. EDIT - NM I see what you were measuring.
I wonder what the transfer rate is on the phone - back and forth between internal SD and external SD.
Huh, interesting concept. I dont even know of a way to test that
I bought a 32gig card from China for 18 bucks shipped. 1st time I've been scammed on ebay. It seemed to show up as a 32gig, but the phone wouldn't recognize it and wanted to format it....sure thing I figured. Now it shows as an 8mb card that won't format no matter what I do. I disputed it to paypal after the auction/seller disappeared on ebay, but they want me to send it back to China to refund. I considered this might happen and was willing to risk 20 bucks, but it didn't end up well. The funniest part was that it showed up in Kingston packaging, but the date was 2008. I'm pretty sure 32 gig microSD's didn't even exist in 2008.
Thats terrible!! well good luck getting your money back... Lol so I guess if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Id just stick with trustworthy sellers, brands, and sites, and look for good deals!

I am not sure where you found this - but the official specs call for up to 32GB card:

Many people are using 32GB cards. It is the limit of the SDHC spec, so the 16gb is probably a typo from somewhere.

Not sure if the one I purchased is the same because the item post has been removed but mine came from Beijing I believe. Came in a Kingston package which was obviously fake. Put it in my phone did a format and it showed a 32gb card. Writing files takes forever directly from the computer but everything looks good so far. Mainly using it for music.

The Micro Center flash memory is a good choice. They purchase from source manufacturers and drop the "Micro Center" label. An example would be Micro Center 2GB SD (MMAGF02GWMCU-PA) is also branded as a Lexar 2GB SD and a couple other brands.
I have a 16GB Micro Center MicroSD card in my Evo right meow.
Paid $32 for it, can't comment on the speed (don't really care) but the price point is right on.
Can't complain.
i shop their daily for my business. i think the cards they have now are Sandisk and are all class 2. i got an 8 gig there about a year ago and it was a class 6 but since then they are all ether class 2 or occasionally class 4. if speed isn't an issue then i highly recommend them because if you have an issue with any of their MircoCenter branded products just take it back and they give you a new one no question. i am in Columbus and thats their corporate headquarters and it has the best selection. also it is their corporate policy to price match Newegg on anything in store. the Cincinnati store has given me fits about this but when i tell them i am from the Columbus area and shop at the Bethel road store they very quickly change their tune and match Newegg.

I shop at MC almost every other day and ive bought one of every kind of flash memory they have. All of there SD memory is top freakin notch. Technically the micro's are class 2, but remember in SD storage, the class notates the MINIMUM speed. ive tested the 16gb i have a million time and it almost always comes out to class 6 speeds. There regular sd's are smokin fast and i buy them and use a SD card reader instead of buying flashdrives now. Speaking of which DO NOOOOOOOT BUY THERE FLASHDRIVES!!! They suck hardcore. im talkin 1-3mbps write speeds and an ENORMOUS rate of failure. But all there SD media is completely unrivaled. Dont hesitate, just buy it!
I paid 26 for 16 gb and is class two I get 3mbs write and 10mbs read

whew! I just bought 64Gb Class 6 version. Since this is a new product, I hope it'll also work with our Note.
It works. But didn't want to work initially, formatted to fat32 and still nothing, but all of a sudden it works. Plugged in and out of my phone finally worked. When transfering, my phone crashes (turns off) Running latest Stunner, have to pull the battery, dunno what the bug is, but I have to install files plugged in directly for faster transfer, kinda slow with USB Mounted anyways.

This is my biggest worries about buying microSD card with price that is "too good to be true".
I have bought many many microSD and SD cards (since the days of Windows Mobile phones) and there are tons of fake cards. I noticed that this is usually when the prices of the card is really cheap.
To the OP or whoever bought this card, what's the R/W speed? Use SD Tools from Google Play (link) to measure the speed. In the past, I have bought brand name card from even reputable seller (Amazon Prime) but Amazon themselves got FAKE card. I.e. I got a Kingston Class 6 16GB and the R/W speed is less than 1 Mbps (!!!) My Sandisk 8GB Class 4 R/W is more than 2Mbps.
Not to say bad thing about OP, but just to consider the above.

Hey thanks!
it is always a good idea to be cautious when you buy a memory card and that is why it is important to buy from a reputable store
it seems you were unfortunte to get a dud card as amazon (not amazon market) are usually a safe bet but i guess nothing is for certain in this world ... except death and taxes
Play (again not Play 'Market') are reputable also and been around for many years and i would trust them not to sell fake cards but it is their customer service that is bad. They usually discount things on a pre-release but sometimes they get the availability date wrong and so you might be left waiting. I know Amazon don't withdraw money until the item gets shipped but i don't think that is the case with play and that is where you might end up having a bad experience if they delay shipping etc
some still say a class 6 is better than 10?!!?
