2.2 FroYo and Gmail - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I side loaded 2.2 onto my phone and it works wonderfully but, now when I try to email a photo it just continuously says sending and never actually sends it. Has anyone had this problem or can anyone point me in the direction of the correct corrective action.

Just tested going to Gallary, select a photo, then share, then Gmail and it was sent and delivered. Seems to work ok for me.
What method did you try?
-JD
ps. I am have build 3.16.32.15-g7507bb0 (Offical 2.2 with rmk-inc_froyo_fixes_v4 patch).

did you run the rmk froyo fixes v4 patch?

He has 1 post so obviously not...how many people come here asking for help in the dev when it needs to be in general when the fix is usually already out there?
I'd say roughly 90%...
Apply the [PATCH]2.2 fixes deal. It'll work.

Sorry for posting this in the wrong place and being part of the 90%! (Honestly77)
Could someone who would like to help direct me to the correct location for the fix.

I found the thread and DL the file but it says "Apply the zip via CWM as usual (can be re-run anytime, such as for updates)." what does "CWM as usual" mean?

CWM is clockwork recovery. Boot into recovery and apply zip from SD card.

Do I need to rename it update when I put it on the SD card?

Nice!,thank you for the help with the terminology, I installed it and it is working like normal now. my gmail works again, thank you.

Does anybody know how I can get Gmail to show me my inbox with it's list of emails (old and new) instead of directly showing me the newest email (opened) when I tap on Gmail??

any help with the question above??

I think I figured it out. If you do not want Gmail to open up the new email directly when you tap on the Gmail icon.. do not exit Gmail using the back key.. Instead use the home button to exit Gmail.. that way next time when you open it.. it'll go to your inbox list instead of an opened/new email.

Thanks for the response but has nothing to do with my problem.

I've had a similar issue with another app that seemingly took for ever to pass something thru the internet... just like the issue with send that you are having.. Uninstalling and reinstalling the particular app seemed to fix the problem for me.

[Q] Voicemail: An optional upgrade is now available.

So I've got this notification that will not go away. (clearing does nothing).
When I tap on it, it says it's downloading an upgrade to what appears to be stock voicemail mail. When done, it asks
Code:
This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?
All previous user data will be saved.
When I hit "OK", I get the standard install approval screen, hit "install", then get bounced to a screen that just says "Application not installed" with just a "done" on the bottom.
Seeing as how I use Google Voice for my voicemail and not sprint, I could care less about the regular voicemail app, but being able to get rid of the notification would be great.
Any help in trying to remove this annoying notification would be awesome.
Thanks!
Just delete the sprint vvm.apk from /system/ and that should do it.
I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried moving the vvm apk out from underneath after the download finishes and the install is about to start, and no joy. I still get "not installed."
Thoughts?
I'm guessing that I have to remove this file using something other than Astro? Keeps telling me that it can't delete files, looks like the permissiosn are read only, and I can't find a way to change the permissions.
You need to be rooted to write to system. Then you can use adb or root explorer.
Sent from my FROYO'D EVO using xda app
If you're using a custom ROM Sprint stuff may not update because the developer of your ROM signed it. Check for updates with your ROM developer (website or an update tool), most of the developers have already made their own VVM update from Sprint's release.
Just another hole to cover so we can't root, just a thought.
Same problem here. Renaming the .apk via adb then rebooting did the trick.
Guys, I figured this one out today.
I got the same "unable to install" message when I tried to install the new one. First thing I did, was uninstall the stock one using Titanium backup, but any method should work the same. Then rebooted the phone and tried the install again.
It went through with no problems. Check my sig for info, but I think this should work with any custom ROM.
Also, please note that I had a copy of the install file on my SD card and I accessed it via EStrongs file explorer. Again, I don't think it matters which file explorer you use, but having it on your SD card may be the key.
Edit: I used this link to get the file on my SD card:

Did you follow my previous post?
1) DL the file on the link I provided from another thread on here.
2) Mount your SD as disk drive and click and drag it onto your SD card.
3) Uninstall the current voicemail app on your phone (if you don't have Titanium backup paid version, you will need to use Astro or another app that can uninstall apps from the phone)
4) Reboot your phone.
5) Use a file explorer to find the zip file you put on your phone, and install it.
You should be good to go.

I followed these instructions step by step and I can get the voicemail app to load but it doesn't work. I don't get my messages, I hit the "check for updates" button and get a box that comes up and tells me there was a general error. I've updated my profile and my prl. Please let me know what I need to do to get this fixed. I'm on BS 1.5.
Thanks in Advance

Well, I am not an expert by any means. I can tell you that this worked for me the first time I tried it. By any chance, can you install the old version back on? Or, did you back-up your ROM in any way where you can go back to the way your phone was before you started so at least the old app is on there and working?
If not, hopefully someone can chime in who knows more on the subject.
easiest way of fixing this should be to use SteelH's flashable vvm update zip found on his rom thread here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781
I think it works on any rom.

I did the following steps and still no go.
1. Flashed SteelH's zip.
2. Updated my profile.
3. Updated my prl.
4. Rebooted.
5. Called my cell and left two voicemails.
I never got a notitication and when I try to check for updates I get a general error. And when I hit the button to change my greeting, a box comes up saying it will connect me with my voicemail, but nothing ever happens.
I found an old version of the voicemail app and tried that and I get the same results. I must be doing something wrong or there is something wrong with my phone.
Any ideas for me to try, would be greatly apperciated.

Sorry - that link will only solve the issue in the OP - how to update to the latest version of vvm (v5.1.0.34), and get rid of notifications that a new version of vvm is available.
You're having a different issue - you're having an issue getting your message notifications. Can't help you with that one.
I just restored back to a version of BS 1.3 I backed up on Monday and my voicemail worked. But I got the voicemail upgrade message so I then flashed SteelH's voicemail zip and it now works perfect. I get my messages and notifications. Now I guess I try to load BS 1.5 again. But that'll wait until another day, I don't have the time now to completely wipe my phone and set it back up.
Thanks for the help.

no prob - and BS 1.5 includes the latest vvm too, so you won't need to use that zipfile again.
edit - just noticed you were on BS before all of this - I guess it was those other steps that messed things up for you.
I don't know what happened. I was working fine until I went to BS 1.5. When I went to BS 1.5 the notification to upgrade my voicemail was gone but my voicemail didn't work, that's when I started not getting my messages or notifications. And then I started trying to load different versions of the voicemail app and trying different things. But I agree with you, it's probably something I did while setting my phone back up after BS 1.5 and didn't know I did it.
Thanks again.

Well, I was able to fix the problem. I'm almost sure its due to error on my end by trying to delete Sprint stock apps. although I can't say for sure which one I wasn't suppose to delete. Anyway, if anybody ever run into a similar problem here is how I fixed it.
1. I backed up all my app.
2. boot into recovery (clockmode) and wipe everything twice. (user data , and cache)
3. re-installed Froyo (the rooted version), and rebooted.
4. restored all my app. via Titanium backup.
5. verified my latest radio, and winmax. (didn't needed to reinstall these two)
6. tested MMS with Handcent MMs, and Chomp MMs, and with the original htc mms and they all worked.
I would like to thank to all that reply to my thread at my hour of need. hope the above will help another Evo user.

Clockwork Rom Manager Fix Permissions and Slide SMS Contact Pics

so i've found a bug with clockwork rom manager. The contact pictures in the sms app will show up perfectly fine, but the second you run a fix permissions through the rom manager, the contact pictures disappear and wont come back. i did a nandroid before so i could verify this, and sure as anything, when i restored before the fix permissions the pictures came back.
i may be in the wrong forum, but i figured since the rom manager is mostly development side, it would be good here
I completely agree. Is there any fix for this?
this happened to me today. i reflashed cwm recovery and sms contact pics reappeared

Calendar wont open - how to fix? 2.3.4

Hi
I recently updated to 2.3.4 over the air rooted version posted in the Dev section. Not sure if this caused the problem as i didnt really check while I had 2.2 stock but my Calendar app wont open. It comes up with the Force Close button instantly.
Is there a way to fix this or does the HTC calendar not run on the 2.3.4 update?
Can I somehow reinstall via Terminal? If so could someone kindly post the commands?
Hi guys any thoughts on this? Really want to get it working.
It seems that the sync doesnt work when i look in the sync settings. Sync com.android.calander. Has an exclamation mark error next to it.
i tried Root Uninstaller Pro to uninstall the calander then reinstalled. Also did the same for the google calander sync app. Still not working.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

[Q] [q] facebook app

My Facebook app went funny last night, it wouldn't show my friends pictures and wouldn't come out of refresh. So I logged out, turned off my wireless connection, rebooted my phone, turned on the wireless and tried to log back in. I was met with this error:

It is still the same after uninstalling and re-installing the app.

That sounds as though your phone isn't actually reaching the facebook page but is being redirected somewhere else. Are you sure it's not something to do with your wifi network? Can you get to facebook OK from a laptop?
I'd expect this sort of thing if you were connected to a hotspot without having logged into the hotspot from the phone.

Facebook was unreachable a couple of days ago. But I got a message saying that they are doing maintenance. When it came back up, all it had me do is log back in. Everything is fine until now.
I wonder if your issues has something to do with the Facebook integrated on Sense. You guys using Sense roms by any chance?

Same here since a couple of days. It seems to be a problem on FB side, but in some way related to the software of the phone. I own a Desire with RcmixS Rom Gingerbread. I flashed it with an ICS Rom and it worked after that. Come back to Gingerbread after factory wipe and problem is there again.

Trying logically to understand why this happens only on Desire with gingerbread (since on my with ICS it was working) and looking at the error I thought it could be a problem of certificates that are not up to date, in this case may be only on a specific android distribution like the one we have on Desire... (app developer are maybe forgetting our loved phone since it's getting older) so I tried to understand how to update this certificates and I've finally found that there are some files where they are stored inside a system directory.
Here attached you can download a zip with some certificates I found. To install them you have to put the file on the SD, go into recovery mode and then simply choose to install a zip from SD card. Reboot... My FB started working again! I had tried everything before this without success... so maybe this will work for you too.
Let me know! :fingers-crossed:

I BET it's because facebook.com have automatic activated some new security settings, https, and (dont know the english word for it) safe login, where you will receive an sms the first time you log on from a new unit...
I downloaded your zip file, extracted cacerts.bks, cwcerts.zip & otacerts.zip and copied them to my system/etc/security folder, quick restart, and it's WORKING :good:
And I was receiving an sms so that i could log on.
Funny part is, that those certificates looks older than the ones I allready got, but they are a little bit bigger.
But it's working... thank you

Yes, having LeeDroid you should already have a cooked recovery... just power off the phone, keep pressed vol - and power... choose recovery with vol buttons and enter with power button. You should be now on you recovery (probably clockworkmod). Choose install zip from SD and select certs.zip you can find on my previous post and that you have to put on your SD. At the end reboot. You should now be able to use FB.
installed the certs and Facebook is now working. :good:

No låvisa, the folder is on the internal memory, but you can't write on it if you are not rooted. You can probably apply the file from the recovery also without root, but you need a cooked recovery. To permanently install the clockworkmod recovery, that is not the stock one and that have more option like the one to install zip, again you would need to be root. Instead I think you can (I've never do it this way, sorry...) install the clockworkmod recovery temporary without root from your stock recovery, just the time to flash my zip.
Here you can find all the available way to install the clockworkmod, look at the update.zip method:
