Ok, how bad is your battery life? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know there are a million threads on battery life here and on other forums. But I am curious before I take the dive into the EVO (buying outright without an upgrade).
How bad is the battery life?
and
How wide spread is the screen separation issue?
I intend on buying the EVO and then trading to the EPIC when its released then deciding which to keep for the next year until I do have an upgrade.
Battery life will probably be the key determination for me between the 2, I need every last second of power I can get.
Captivate guys are saying 5% an hour under moderate use 2% under light- I can tolerate that. But its a GSM phone and they typically have better batter life anyway. No one can really tell what the Epic will do until we get one.

If I don't touch my phone and idle it I can get 24+ hours. light/moderate I can get 8+, heavy I pretty much have to keep it plugged in.

I got 2 days on a single charge last weekend, barely used and was basically on a 2 day drinking binge. Probably could have gone a bit longer but I plugged it in first chance I had. I can easily get through a day with medium use. Maybe light in the morning, more medium - heavy use in the afternoon but can still make it home knowing I have some charge. Or if I get sidetracked for a couple hours at the local watering hole I know I'm still safe.
I feel a lot of people want to best their last battery time though, sometimes after a decent day of use I need to juice it for a while before I go out that night. Any decent phone these days, with the things they can do, can be dried out pretty quickly with heavy use. But once you get more into the regular use of the device it is more than suitable, IMO. Not to mention other steps can be taken to make sure you get the best performance out of the phone, battery included.
I've been leaving my GPS on lately, keeping sync constantly on, just to see how big of a hit it will really deal during the day. It's not really noticeable yet. One thing I have noticed though, honestly, is that in the beginning when my phone was off it seemed to really use a lot of battery. But now when not in use it's almost as if the battery takes a very minor hit, if a visible one at all. Went to sleep last night with 70% left and woke up it was reading the same. Responded to emails, sent some texts, checked the weather for no reason, and left it idle for an hour. Still sat at that 70% mark, even though that is a slight estimate in terms of battery charge meter. Might have been nearing more to the 60 but still showed 30% as used.

this is a screen shot from when i had cm6 7.27 build. i'm running the 8/2 build right now and its about the same.

[Q] Charging for the first time...

1.How many hours should i charge it for the first time when i take it out of the box?
I would say charge it until the light turns green
Light goes green. Done.
All this charging for hours and hours before you first use it malarky goes back to NiCad days and does not apply to Li-ion batteries.
I left it to charge overnight, but I don't think it matters with Li-Ion batteries
Li-Ion batteries doesn't need that initial 8 hours charge.
I remember reading article on engadget saying you can charge in whichever way you like thanks to nowadays battery technology.

I know about the memory effect of older battery technology and how it isn't present (well, it's so small as to not count) but I still charge my phone regularly and leave it plugged in for at least an hour or two after the charge light turns green. I'm not the heaviest of phone users, probably very light to medium, but I get a day easily. This is from last night when I got the 15% or less charge remaining message...

I shrank the image to avoid it looking overly large. I'd like to point out I'm using stock firmware, no overclocking or underclocking and while this was longer than most charges I'm usually getting between 22 - 30 hours between charges. You might be able to do the same and get nothing like this, I'm just passing on my experiences
Well can you show us the screen on time and also whether during that 1 day and 15 hours was it on heavy internet usage?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Not now I can't because that was posted before I went to bed and the times reset when I took the charger out. As I said I'm not a very heavy user at all, I'd put myself in a perfect tablet user market but I'm waiting for better options to come out. Judging from my usage I'd have to guess at around between one and two hours screen on time. A lot of my use is basically checking a few things online, Twitter for example, reading a few articles on Engadget and the odd YouTube video.
I'm not saying the battery life is great or that using it this little is normal, but I don't purposely avoid using it to stretch the battery out so this is typical for my use.
I got a letter from my provider saying you should charge the phone for 14 hours i only charged it until the light was green 3/4 cycles of usual charging should get the battery working at optimum level.

(TIP)Possible battery drain solution for LTE devices.

Like many here I've been having battery drain issues since the day I purchased the Galaxy Nexus. I also purchased the extended battery since day one. I've been reading through every single forum on how to reduce the battery drain and none seems to have worked for me. I've tried switching to wifi, 3g only, no email push, no google+, etc and my phone at 100% battery would lose almost 30% within 2 hours idling. Then I was looking at the settings and I came across the Developer Options/Background process limit and limited my background process from Standard to At most limit to 1 process and my battery has improved tremendously. Prior to making the change the Android OS was using 80+ % on idle (Wifi or 3g didn't make a difference), now it's uses around 20 or less. On idle I'm seeing around 4% or less an hour vs 15% battery drain.
Please remember this may or may not solve YOUR battery drain, but it has definitely helped mine and I just wanted to share with the community on what else you can try.
I've had pretty good results with my battery. I think some of ya'll are either just playing around with it too much or have some energy-sucking apps out there.

Or that you don't have a connection to the data network.
Just say'n. (I do the same thing at night)
I had Wi-fi enabled for 12 hours, and the battery only dropped to around 85%. I have been on 4G for 5 hours now, and the battery is now down to 13%. I'm going to use a Wi-fi/3G combination tomorrow. Oh and I also have my phone rooted/underclocked to 900Mhz.

I've been using it for 3 days and have had no issues. Anyways its as easy as checking the standard limit if you ever wanted to revert back.

I just bought one of these. Been using it since Monday. Not sure about it yet, still bedding it in. Today is my first usage after a full discharge cycle.
Yesterday I discharged the battery as fast as possible by running stability test and I still managed to get 5 hours screen time.
Will update at the end of this cycle.

Please keep me up to date with how your usage goes. would mean a lot. very curious about this battery.
Ok still not sure about this yet. I've now done 2 full discharge cycles by draining the battery as fast as possible. I ran stabilitytest again last night and ended up with 5.5 hours screen time with 14 hours off charger. Charged it overnight and bump charged it a few times.
Today I'm going to see how it fares with normal use. Not very impressed so far though as I'm at 83% battery with 49 minutes screen time and 5 hours off charger. Light usage today with a few hours of music through wired headphones. Maybe the battery % isn't calibrated properly and it'll drop slower as it approaches midline, who knows.
Will keep updating.
I know someone with it and he said it barely lasts 20% longer than standard battery, so guess that means around 2500mah
Conclusion after 6 days and 5 cycles is that I'm getting about 25% more than stock. Not great but I got it for a tenner inc delivery so can't complain.
Shame we can't get the hyperions in the UK. Would love to get my hands on one of those.
Actually starting to like this battery. Getting decent results now.

Strange battery issue

Sometimes my battery is awesome, and sometimes it just sucks.
This was 7 hours overnight, zero use. No wakelocks, and yet the battery drained really fast. Usually it's about 1% of drain per hour and a half of idle.
Any ideas?

And the awake times are for Twitter, Facebook, email, weather updates, etc.
1. well twitter and facebook are battery hogs.
2. I have had battery issues with email (only exchange accounts)
3. which firmware are you using?
Nk3,
And it isn't always like this. Some days are fine, some days are awful.
And I use tweetings for Twitter, no the actual twitter app, if that makes a difference.
My battery is terrible has been since I got it
Battery Issue
Well, I see no reply on this thread for a long time. I have been facing some battery issues as well. And this issue was there since before the 5.0.1 OTA update which I received 3 days ago. I will post some screenshots, but here are the usage statistics. I have been struggling to get a full day of battery with very moderate to low usage. The general amount of screen on time I get has been about 2-2 1/2 hours at max. I make some phone calls over the day and since that uses the radios, I take that as a reason too. The general call time I use my phone everyday is about 1-1 1/2 hours. Other than that, its not much usage. I am posting the most recent screenshots here. I unplugged my phone from charging at a little over 1.30 PM and have lost 11% in about an hour. In that duration, the only thing I used my phone for, was 43 minutes of voice call. Is this normal for this duration of calling? The screen has been on for a maximum 5 minutes at best.

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention. I do not put the screen on auto brightness. I usually keep it at a very low level, say about 20-25% and only increase it manually if I am outdoors.

Battery issue - Anyone else has same issue?

Hi guys
I've had my HTC 10 for over 2 weeks now, and as I decided to change from iOS to Android the first few days/week the battery would only last me barely 14 hours.
However, the last few days were very impressive with the phone lasting me 2 days and 12 hours with normal usage (no games and not heavy internet browsing).
But today something weird happened as I took the phone in the morning to go to work and at 10:30/11:00 my phone was down to about 60% without me doing anything to it and without a specific reason to it.
I will attach some screenshots to see if anyone had the same problem/issue.
I would appreciate any feedback you may have!

Did you try to restart the phone? Something is keeping your phone awake. A restart every couple of days is always helpful.
Yes, I did.
However, the phone's battery still only lasted until 7 pm. Which is really weird as I literally almost didn't use it...
Will see how it goes today
My battery life did not last very well either when K first got my 10. I'm an HTC lover by the way. In my experience, I've learned you really need to optimize the controls and settings after you purchase the phone to get the most out of your battery. I restrict a lot of app permissions that ask for location so my phone isn't constantly locating itself on GPS. Same for Wi-Fi. I turned off the auto scan for the Wi-Fi cause that absolutely toasts your battery. And then I turn off vibration feedback for touching keys just to conserve even more. I moderately use my phone throughout the day checking mail, texting, browsing the web, facebook, xda, altos adventures, a YouTube video here and there. I get to my office at 4 in the morning, don't get home til 3 pm and my phone still has anywhere from 45 - 60% charge. I think that's great considering my M8 normally has 15 - 20% when I would get home. Just tinker with the controls for a bit. Maybe I'm wrong but this is what worked for me
Yes, I understand and I have done so by restricting must apps and by having the same constant brightness and normally (as it happens today) the phone after 12 hours still has 50% battery. But it was that episode that literally was eating away the battery without me using the phone at all!
Thanks for the replies so far
