Does anyone know how to change the recovery img for when you boot into recovery? I had one installed from when I rooted my EVO, but using ROM Manager, it installed Clockwork (sp?) but I've heard that might not be a good one? Can anyone provide me steps to replace the recovery? Thanks.

If you choose flash alternate recovery in rom manager it should flash the amon ra recovery
For the record, there's nothing wrong with ClockworkMod, at least the current version. Don't let the rumors scare you. It wipes just fine in my experience (and others'). I find it better than Amon Ra if only for the reason that I can go back in the menus without having to push volume down+up at the same time.
Thanks. Yeah, I can't say personally I've had any issues with it, I was just going off of something I read. Thanks for the info, if I need to change it at least I know how to now.

The option for flash alternate recovery is grayed out. I can't select it. Any other ways to replace the recovery image??? Thanks.

If i root with unrevoked, I know that the clockwork mod screen will not be visible to me since i have a new slcd incredible. I know when reading instructions it says to make a recovery once it automatically boots into clockwork recovery. Is it necessary? if i let it sit there will it go on its way so i can flash a different recovery with rom manager?
I really want to make a backup of the stock 2.2 it came with in case i need to take it in for support, but idk how i would do that if clockwork isn't visible. Ive read the forums and the only work arounds i can find are using different recoveries but the only way i know how to get them is through an app that already requires root, which would make it impossible to make a stock backup.
I'm really stuck here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the alternate RA recovery which is available through ROM Manager.

so if i use a different recovery from rom manager will that make a back up of the stock 2.2 sense with root? If it does i assume from there if i need to i can just remove the root?

ok i have a MAJOR problem. im kind of a noob at this stuff so im still learning. i was messing in my system files trying different phone.apk. i think i may have deleted something essential. when i turn my phone on it doesnt get past the boot animation. my phone was rooted with unrevoked 3. but everytime i try to install a new rom using clock work recovery, it gets to the part where it "opens update pakage" and just stops and goes back to the first menu screen of clockwork. i dont have a nandroid backup either so i cant even restore.

yes i wiped everything. i tried multiple roms like cm 6, and stock. none worked. also. everytime i try to load up the pc36img.zip nothing happens it says "no image or wrong image"
You should try using Amon_RA instead. Just flash it using ROM Manager. Good Luck.
is it possible for me to change to amon? im not able to get past my boot screen on my phone, so if it requires me to turn my phone completely to use it, then i cant. i dont really know much about amon.
Search for the Amon_RA thread. If you downgraded your HBOOT, you can flash from Fastboot. If not, you can try an RUU.

. I'm using ROM Manager with ClockworkMod, and every attempt leads to the screen flashing code for a few moments, and going right into the ClockworkMod Recovery main menu. it wont let me flash ANYTHING period. I have HBOOT-0.97. i dont know what can be the problem. and Amon RA is too complicated for me to understand right now cuz im still a noob. :-(
cans ome one tell me how to do it, i remeber trying a while back and it never worked, i mnight have made a mistake, i cant even find the threads for it, partially because i have a splitting headache and partially because it is so damn hot in my room i need to leave. please and thank you.
p.s. i did search for about 7 minutes, between the tempature and the fact that so much has the words clockwork and amon in it its just to much right now.
The easiest way is probably to download ROM Manager onto your phone. It may ask you to install ClockworkMOD again, but that's fine. Once that's done, scroll to the bottom of ROM Manager and select 'Flash Alternate Recovery' or something like that and that will install Amon_RA 1.8.0 onto your phone. Afterwards, you can remove ROM Manager since that only works with ClockworkMOD.
is there any noticable difference, and how will i know its done correctly i thought i tried this once...

im using the rom cm6.1.1 it had it on there already so no. however im going to restore to 6.1 because this rom is constantly rebooting itself and getting stuck in bootloops....****.

i flahsed over to an old sense virus rom, i installed rom manager however it didnt ask to redownload clockwork, and i scrolled down to look at the flash alternative recovery, its still grey but this time it has amon ra 1.8 under it but still grey

All I get is a white screen with HTC in it and ijumps to the stock power/volume down screen which all choices lead back to that.I canget the aman ra menu but i can,get the clockwork mod recoverys. Sprint tech said nothing can be done and warranty is void. I just bought it when I tresses in a 3d evo that got smashed they replaced in one day but that has boot 1.50000 any ideas? If you can get into recovery with Amon Ra, go the wipe function and wipe everything except the sd card itself. Do the Factory reset/User Data wipe. Wipe cache and dalvik cache twice, then reflash your ROM.
Remember, it'll take up to 10-15 minutes to boot up the first time
Not really sure what you mean but you can flash amon ra 2.3 from hboot if thats what your asking you can get the link to it from my sig.

Yea you have to be more clear on exactly what it is you want to do and for crying out loud dont call Sprint and tell them your rooted. They wont help you and now you probably have been flagged....What ever it is you want to do, try a google search for it and make sure you read up on it carefully. If you are rooted and have Amon then you are in a great position
i agree with the last two posts.relax,and think.if you can get into hboot you are not bricked.do you have an og evo or the evo 3d?if its the og evo,then you need to find a pc36img.zip file and put it on the root of the sd card.you can find all the files you need in this forum.once you have found that file download it and then put on the sd.go into your hboot and it will read it and then select update.once its updated,do not select reboot go into recovery.if you have a green recovery screen you are golden.i would put an su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed zip on the root of the sd card as well.go back into hboot.DO NOT SELECT UPDATE OR REBOOT WHEN PROMPTED!!select no to both of those then select recovery.it will go back into the green recovery and select install zip from sd,then select choose zip from sd.then scroll down to the su signed zip and let it do its thing.once you have done that,reboot the device and you will have a stock rom.redownload rom manager and update clockwork mod to v.4.4.whatever and you are golden.if you have the evo 3d,i know revolutionary dont work with the hboot v.1.5....ive tried with a friend of mines 3d.i hope i have helped,Lord knows i have done it enough with my own evo.if i helped you please hit that little thanks button for me

I fixed problem ( which was basically I could only bring up amon ra and the only recovery image it saw was a a bad one that wouldn't recover anything). Among Ra would let me hook up to my laptop as a usb drive where I could see my SD card , I was able to take a clockwork mod recovery image of a ROM disliked but it worked, rename it exactly what was in the anon ra folder ,move it and the files into the anon ra folder, and viola!!! Amon Ra recovered into that ROM and I now switched to swag rom which is great. Now I do wish there was a viper ROM for the 4g, and a way to unlock and s-off my EVO3D that came locked and has hboot 1.50000.
Anyway all is ok, and the advice about relaxing and thinking from Ryan might have seen simple but was what I needed, thanks Ryan.
By the way, swag-on is a great ROM, stable, WiFi tether, hdmi mirroring, great dock ,and funny boot animation.

Hey guys, Sprint ended up changing something on my account and screwing up my evo so I couldn't access 3g. Long story short, I RUU'd to get it back to stock and was able to then get 3g data back. Now it still shows S-Off, but I can't boot into recovery and the clockwork mod rom manager won't work, because it says my phone still needs to be rerooted. I was thinking since when I boot into recovery it says S-Off, i'm already rooted and I just need the zip for clockwork mod recovery and I can then go in and flash roms to my hearts content.
Does anyone know where I can find the .zip for clockwork mod recovery?
You need to flash clockworkmod through the bootloader I wouldnt recommend clockworkmod and most people don't recommend it you can find it on clockworkmod.com under recovery images and look for the EVO
Edit:also you might have to flash a superuser zip to get root back

I don't personally recommend clockworkmod to use as your recovery, but if you just need to have it, you should find it much easier to run the attached PC36IMG file from your SD card.
Also, you may need to flash (or install from SD card) through clockwork the attached superuser zip file to obtain your root permissions if you are going to continue to use stock ROM.

I would use amon RA or amon RA style supersonic recovery since u had cwm b4 I'd recommend RA style supersonic recovery 3.0.8 as it will allow you to use your cwm backups as well as RA backups and any backups you make in the future, plus it has capacitive buttons and touch screen working in recovery has a battery level option and etc check it out in development

Good luck cwm is garbage compared to RA on the evo it doesn't like to wipe properly alot of times, as well as it doesn't have the same wipe options as RA, atleast it didnt the last time I used it which has been a minute I ditched it for RA almost immediately

ok i've used the rev tool and installed superuser but says not rooted. I've installed busy box and this is what it is saying. " error. root access not detected. Your device must be rooted to install busy box. if you fell that youare recieving this message in error please go into superuser app and click on busybox installer and then click forget and restart this app." but it is not showing that in superuser. do i just flash the superuser in this section and try it again. i'm rooting a friends phone and followed the instructions to the t. thanks in advanced.
