[Q] Wifi sharing for Sprint Touch Pro2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey guys...kind of in a bind. I need to enable my TP2 as a Wifi hub quickly. I am sure that this has been discussed several times but am unable to find my answer in the time that I have. I have tried using the dongle approach but it seems as though the connection wont 'take'...which may be because of a poor/old USB connection on the laptop itself. Either way I know that the laptop has a quality wireless card and would like to make it connect through my phone via a wireless connection. Anyone have a cab or otherwise that can make this work? Thank you in advance for any help.

It is as simple as this
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partner-pub-2900107662879704%3Afs7umqefhnf&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=wifi+sharing&sa=Search

That doesnt really help. It is exactly the listing group that I had found before. Is there a cab file out there that I can install in order to make this happen?

WiFiRouter is the best way to go:
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
I use it all the time to tether via USB on my laptop. However, I've also used it as a mobile WiFi hotspot. My wife and I can both be on our laptops at the same time.
I've only used it a limited number of times in WiFi mode, but it has worked well when I did. The only issues I had was that the range did not need excessive. If I was more than 20 feet from my phone sign loss started happening. Of course, I live right under a cell phone tower so it may have been due to just lots of interference. Also, you'll burn through your battery pretty quick doing this as well.

Cannot connect on my wireless at home...plz help!

I have a cingular 8525 (WM5, and updated from cingular) which can connect on my wireless at work, but when I want to connect to my personal wireless at home it cannot connect, but it does for unlocked wireless around my appartment.
There's nothing wrong with my wireless system, because my laptop can connect all the time.
It keeps telling me that the password is wrong, but it's right because it works for my laptop.
A highly trained friend in computers tried to fix the problem and he doesn't understand why it doesn't connect, even if i leave my wireless unlocked.
My wireless is from comcast and it's a fast cable-DSL.
I'm thinking to download WM6 and see if it gets fixed...
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks!
I've experienced that too. Here's how I fix my problem.
1.set in PPC as hidden network.
2. Turn on WIFI, delete existing connections, then add new connection and assigned new key ( I use WEP) and that's it.
BTW. Did you set MAC filtering on your Router. If you do , you need to add the PPC MAC address to the router....
Good luck
I agree with pl55, however maybe you should post this in the main Hermes forum as this forum is for questions related to WM6...
Just a gentle suggestion
Mate,
There a few of us who have had strange things take place with wifi on the HTC handsets. Me being one of them. My wifi at home is 100% stable when it comes to pc's yet when it comes to my handheld it is completely unpredictable - until...........
I have just upgraded my ROM (again) to Black Shadow and all of the issues have gone away. I haven't even had to do anything extra. So what does this tell me????? It tells me that there are certain things in certain builds that cause anomolys problems.
I would give a different ROM a shot. I can vouch for the Black series but I am sure the others are equally good.
Before you do all of that, you might want to see if your handheld is actually seeing your SSID (if its not withheld) by using something other than the wifi software on the handset. Try something like wififofum (great little app).
Good luck.

Question - Can you tether a Wifi connection from your Phone to your PC

Hello, I have been searching around for a day and a half now to no avail. I figure I will ask here as a last attempt before I go and buy another USB wifi adapter.
I am trying to use my HTC Dash with WM6.5 to tether an available wifi connection over to my Windows 7 PC. Basically trying to use the phone as a wifi adapter. The phone has no cell data service, but can connect to the home wifi network that is here. My Windows 7 PC has no Wifi adapter (I left it behind >.<).
Here is where I am at. The HTC Dash is connected to the Wifi network, and when I try to select a Network in the ICS program, it says there is none available. I have been able to get USB selected in ICS, and the phone connected to the computer. In Windows I see a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in the Network Connections area when I sync the device in Windows Mobile Center. But no matter what I try, ICS sharing on the phone will not let me select the Wifi connection it has.
Through my searching I have found a lot of information on tethering 2G and 3G internet through USB, and using the phone as a Wifi Hotspot. But those where no help in this.
My friend on a G1 with Andriod can tether Wifi connections to a pc, and I am wondering if Windows Mobile can do the same thing. I can flash my ROM from to 6.0 or 6.1 WM if needed.
Thanks in advance to any advice given, hopefully someone can help me out
UPDATE: Still have no luck. I found a program called ICS Control v.21, but it only works on touchscreen WM phones, not WM standard. Which means a bunch of crashing.
This program would do exactally what I need it to do... just does not support my phone. Well the search continues... looking like I may just have to go buy an USB Wifi adapter soon.
tethering w/wifi
It does work. I'm currently answering this on my 2nd desktop Vista with my S620 via my home wifi network. Waiting for a 25' ethernet connector to hardware to wifi/modem Not quite sure how it is with a wifi adapter but 2 things I do know from experience. You shouldn't need an adapter.
1st: you can't be in Sync Center while trying to tether, at least in my case on a Vista desktop. It won't let you tether while the sync is running (or your already synced).
2nd: (this worked for me) open internet sharing on your Dash/S620, pc connection-usb and be ready to hit connect the 1st couple of seconds after pluging your usb connector into your phone, and give it 10-20 seconds to actually connect. If you wait to long to hit connect, the phone will start syncing with the computer. Won't let you tether.
RE-read post, missed thar "WinMo" remote part. My bad. Don't own Win 7. Don't know what that is.
Question: Is there an active wifi where you are ? From your post it sounds like "yes"
You do not need a wifi adapter. You do need a USB cord.
I tethered with edge for a bit, but then got to thinking. Try Wifi. It worked, but be quick.
Neither one is super fast but Wifi is definitely faster than Edge. Better than not being on the net at all. Occasionally it'll cut out, just unplug usb, get to connect screen, plug in and hit connect. Should be set.
As a side note: I also tried tethering with G1. Xferd pc driver to Vista from G1 but computer says it can't find the driver. Gave up after 2 hours.
G1 tethering works great on XP though.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. Really cool when it works.
Are you using a wifi tether or just usb?
If wifi, what program/version are you using and where did you get it? I got the ICS usb tether working, but my version of wmwifirouter.cab won't even install on the dash. cheers

I'll have to break out the Dash again and let you know. It's been sitting for weeks since I repaired LCD screen and flashed my TMO Wing. Can't seem to stop playing with it.
Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.
You do have a wifi modem, correct ? I was using usb.
Right, just to be clear, my goal is to set up my Dash to receive it's edge data and transmit that out as a wifi signal that my laptop will pick up and connect to the internet. No USB connection. I'm getting an ipad eventually and this is all to avoid that stupid 3g garbage they're hawking.
I tried a program called wmwifirouter.cab but was unsuccessful. An ad-hoc wifi network was created by my phone and my laptop was connected to it but couldn't connect to the internet. And my phone kept crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks

Well, in your case, I won't be any help. What I did was run a 2nd computer off of my Dash with a Wifi Modem.
XP in another room with a wifi modem attached on Comcast, Dash on wifi and usb to Vista computer, since I didn't have a 25ft ethernet cable at the time.
Was running Vista-Dash-wifi modem-XP to comcast so I could run 2nd computer without being hard wired.
I'm familiar with wifirouter cab. It let's you use your phone like a hotspot, correct ?
In all my searches for various things for the phones, I thought I saw a different application that did the same thing. Possibly might even have it. I'll check and upload for ya if I find it. Have hundreds of cabs/zips to search. Let you know.
Possibly google it and you might find it yourself. There's a program called: WalkingHotSpot online for $24.99 if you don't mind spending. Dash isn't listed as a supported windows device but looking at the other phones listed my guess would be it should work. Try their DEMO version, see if it works.
Good Luck.......
2AM and I was just wondering......When you received your phone, you also got a usb cable with it, right ?
Why don't you just usb Dash to laptop and use "internet sharing" ????
My plan is to set this up for an iPad, which doesn't allow internet access over a USB cable, so USB tethering is out, has to be wifi.

Do you have a home computer ? If so, get yourself a Wifi Modem and set up a home network. $40-60. Although Comcast sold me mine for $20 and I get to keep it. I can get all 5 phones on the internet at the same time, not that I need to. It'll also be so much faster then running thru Edge. Besides the fact video's don't play for crap tethered running through Edge. Just a suggestion.
My opinion stands concerning Apple. Get ready to cough up more fees for internet (ATT). They're doing away with unlimited data. Did you see their prices ?
You'll never catch me with ATT.
I just put WMWifiRouter on my TMO Wing 6.5. let you know how it worked. Setup went fine, so far.
did you try downloading the actual .cab from WMWIFIROUTER.COM it's only a trial for 21 days, the "Free" versions don't work on the dash i've tried many of them.
once you install and get it set up be sure to write down the Access ID and Password it gives you so you can connect to the WiFi signal beaming from your phone from your PC. It works for me to tether a WiFi connection from my Dash to PC though I prefer the more stable Internet Sharing USB to PC and I have an Unlimited Data Plan.
WMWIFIROUTER also lets you tether a connection from your phone via bbluetooth.
I use WMWiFiRouter and its a life saver. It lets you pretty much tether any connection to any other.
Just yesterday I was at a meeting in a resturant with some clients and used it to hook my netbook to the internet and used bluetooth as the connection to the phone. Yes, Internet Sharing can do that, but it has alot more it can do too.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (it shows up as a USB modem), or even set it up as a WiFi Router.
Very cool program and it works perfectly on the Dash. I love it.
I never tried the trial version. A friend of mine showed it to me, so I just bought it. It's under $20. Well worth it if you run into that situation often.

[Q] USB tether via OS for Mac off of G2?

I would like to tether my G2 to my Mac via USB. I do not want to use Wifi tether, PDANet or any other solution that requires extra software on the Mac end. Just plain old USB tether provided by Android. Last night I ran into this thread regarding USB tether on the Vibrant...
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736769
(Note, not hyperlinked since the moderators here would like to shoot first and ask questions later)
Using approximately the same steps I haven't been able to get this working with my G2, OSX attempts to poke the G2 but gets no response back. Has anyone else ventured into this and possibly gotten better results then me? Thanks.
macbooks dont support usb tethering. i have tried this many times and found this answer on a mac forum.
wireless teether doesnt need any extra software on the mac end. just enable wifi and select androidteether or something of that name. i use wireless teether all the time on my macbook.

Actually, if you took a look at that link to another thread I posted it works fine under the Samsung Vibrant, so as it turns out they do. I'm trying to figure out if there's something special with how the Vibrant acts as a USB modem over the G2.

Wireless tether eats up battery. One could argue that I could simply plug my phone into my laptop to charge up the device. At times there isn't enough power being offered over USB to charge up the phone fast enough, additionally this drains the laptop battery down, on top of also running wifi on the laptop. This sucks when you're on a rather long train ride. twice a day.
Additionally the G2 shares some resource between the wifi and Bluetooth radio. Running tether over wireless and also attempting to listen to music through my Bluetooth headphones degrades the wireless link by more then half and the music cuts out every 10 - 20 seconds.
Beyond that I've found the need to restart the wireless tether session multiple times within an hour span. Kind of sucks.
All in all wireless tether is a great option to get a machine (or a group of machines) onto the net quick, but isn't that smart of a solution when you're commuting for an hour or two each day.

Mobile Wi-Fi router stopped working

So I've been using the Tom coding package that installs the mobile Wi-Fi router with no problems until last night... now it keeps trying to connect to ISP.Cingular and then stops... it basically doesn't work now. I've tried to uninstall and reinstalled it dozens of times with no luck.
And yet... the 3G connection works because I can browse through Opera. So...?
OhI might add that I can turn on the Wi-Fi and connect to my in-house router just fine and do what on the internet through the phone. SO... it is definitely something specific with wireless internet sharing.
???
Someone please he me I use internet sharing DAILY
You need to make sure that it is connecting to the correct address. At the bottom of the App, it should have a few different choices of connections to use. Try another one and see if it works. You may have to set up a new connections for this to work properly. Keep in mind that tethering/mobile hotspot is not covered by AT&T's wireless data plan. It is a separate monthly charge. You should be careful when using it too much at a time, so they don't block or throttle your connection.
The device I am trying to connect with to my Tilt 2 is a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and apparently it doesn't like ad-hoc, whatever that is exactly. I was told on the Galaxy Tab section of this forum that this is the case, and that I need some kind of "mobile ap", although again I do not understand what that exactly means. ???
Ah, see that's much better information. So, no, you probably won't be able to connect without another app doing so. Ad-hoc is, simply put, a connection to another device other than a router which is allowing you access to its Internet connection. If the device you're trying to connect with doesn't allow ad-hoc connections, then the Wifi Router app won't do you any good, as that is the type of connection it uses. Most mobile devices do not natively support this, however. The problem, therefore, is with the Galaxy Tab you have, not with the TP2. Find an app or mod that allows for ad-hoc connections and you'll be all set.
Well is there an apparently for the WM phone side of things that will do non ad-hoc??
No. Ad-hoc is a connection between two devices. Unless you use a router, that's how it's going to be no matter if you are using WM, a laptop, iOS, Android, et cetera. The connection type is determined by the device sending the signal. If it comes from a device, then it is ad-hoc. It is not a problem with the software. That is how wifi was designed to work in the first place. The problem, again, is with the Tab, not the WM application.
Well apparently there is a solution for the Tab that allows it to see ad-hoc networks, so I will try that and let you guys know how it went.
Can no longer connect to Ad-Hoc with Tilt 2
I have been using both the CM Internet Sharing program and the WMWifiRouter with no issues for over a year now on my AT&T Tilt 2.
One day a couple weeks ago I had been using CM to connect my laptop to the internet. everything was just fine as usual.
At some point, I had disconnected and tried to reconnect, and since then I can no longer use either of these programs.
What happens is this...I turn them on and the phone will no longer hold a connection to the ad-hoc network that is created. Up in the status bar I see the icon showing WiFi trying to connect but it will not stick anymore.
I can connect to my office and/or home wifi router still. It just will not connect to the ad-hoc network any longer.
This makes no sense to me at all, since it has always worked and was even working earlier in the day when it stopped working.
I use the tethering frequently and really need to get this solved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arc S wifi through PC?

Hey everyone, iv just started using my phone as a multimedia remote when im in bed watching some netflix or something. And the app (Gremote) uses wifi to connect to the gremote server on my pc in order to control it.
Now I know that arc's do seem to have some pretty terrible wifi problems in terms of dropping out etc. This ever really bothered me, until i started to use it as a remote, and now its become a pain....
Is there any 'definitive' way to fix this problem? If not, is there a way for me to connect my phone to wifi through the pc's connection rather than directly to the router? (without the use of cables)
Thanks!
yes it is possible to connect your phone to PC's wifi...i always use that...search for wifi hotspot creator software for PC
Try this http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Misc-Networking-Tools/WiFi-HotSpot-Creator.shtml

Awesome thanks ill take a look! hotspot is the word i was looking for, heard it before, just escaped my mind . Since you use it this way, do you notice any significant improvement on the wifi signal?
Thanks.
Just like to follow up for anyone else that might be wondering, it really does boost the signal, i now have full wifi signal on my Arc S, which is great for using it as a remote since there are no more drop outs causing the mouse to jump all over. Also, just for clarification i used the software called "connectify".
Cheers.
