Some new cases on ebay. - Vibrant Accessories

How do you like it?
http://cgi.ebay.com/SPADE-SKULL-Har.../120604597045?pt=PDA_Accessories#ht_860wt_911

Like:
It has a graphic design
It covers all the edges
The cutouts look very sharp and defined
It's cheap
Dislike:
The actual picture this one has.
It's a hard-shell case...dust/dirt magnet.
It is likely very bulky though I can't be sure of that yet.

I'm smiling becuase the design is so bold, but you're asking a bunch of folk you don't know if they like it or not. As much as you don't want it to be, it's absolutely charming.
Scary death stuff does scare kids. If you want to alienate yourself from some parents and young kids, or you don't give a rats ass, it's great. Or hey, if it matches your tatoo exactly (not that you should get a phone with this cover tatooed on your cheek), it would look totally matchy and might be cool if you could pull off the look every day. My take on it is "Why burn bridges you haven't built yet?" Stick with neutral and save your self-expression for things that will actually get people thinking. Although Halloween is coming. It's some holiday spirit, to be sure.

I don't like it because it makes the phone look HUGE and stand out like a Black Berry.

CARBON FIBER DESIGN Phone Cover Case

Hello everyone,
This case looks cool. http://cgi.ebay.com/CARBON-FIBER-DESIGN-Phone-Cover-Case-Samsung-Vibrant-/130415205810?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1e5d5a1db2Anyone tried it yet?
to be honest it looks kinda cheap cause its that fake painted carbon fiber stuff lol but me as im not only a phone enthusiast im a car enthusiast as well so the fake carbon fiber doesnt really pull me in but on another note a guy at my work has a rubber type of case i think from tmobile which looks decent and feels ok the buttons are covered by the rubber but still seem to be hard if you know what i mean
Yeah, it's fake and it's one of those snap on cases too. One drop, and it'll fall apart most likely breaking the prongs that keep it together.
i work with CF and looks wise, it looks fine - not sure what weave or weight CF you're used to seeing
as to the hard plastic part, i agree - no drop cushioning and would probably break first time you dropped it
Lol, trying to be like the Carbon Fiber on sneakers .

Lol, sorry but I work with Carbon Fiber as well, been doing it for years. I could tell at first glace that it was fake.
Also, if you would have scrolled down a little it says "Not Real Carbon, it's Plastic."
knew it was fake, just that it wasn't that bad for faux CF
our printer did some signage panels for a tradeshow booth, he borrowed some CF panels we had done - he didn't like the artwork he had on file, so he wanted some to photograph -
couldn't believe what he turned out

not sure but it looks like you still find my response funny - okay, i'll respond in kind
i'll give a little more definition to my earlier response -i'm not a prima donna, but i have worked with and seen enough carbon fiber, both in person and photographed - and to be frank i can't comprehend how anybody can tell from a photograph whether it's real or not (i know, i read the text, it's fake) but, given not truly being able to tell if it's poor lighting or poor photography. Even with great photography, you;re only working with two shades of the grayscale when photographing CF - i've seen products that were fabricated from CF look fake or look questionable, so i assume you must have the ability to divine it and that's what gives you your sense of superiority
i've been around too long to take guff from anyone - arrogance usually generates guff, and arrogance is usually a substitute for a lack of any real substance
have a good laugh
ill let u knw. i got one on the way and should have in couple days then i will post more on it and attach some better pics of it

No, no, no... the lol was not to you, but to myself for taking your first comment the wrong way. About the photography part, it's what I do for a living btw. One of my clients is a company called 360 Forged. They were one of the first to start the whole Carbon Fiber wheel craze for high end cars.
Though the wheels were not full Carbon Fiber, but more of an overlay. I understand, and seen many times over the process with the resin, vacuum seal, and everything else that goes along with it. Remind you that I would shoot the whole process as well.
I understand it's hard to tell the difference between real, or fake CF by just looking at a photograph no matter what the lighting conditions are. Only reason why I picked this one out as a fake right away was due to it's transparency. I believe it's the second image where the case is facing upwards? You can see that it's semi transparent, and in my experience shooting CF I've never seen that before.
I apologize if you took what I said above as an attack towards your comments, but that truly was not the case.

although this is very much FAKE painted on carbon fiber and doesnt look anything like the real thing, its a decent knock off. if you want to wait for a few more weeks and are willing to spend $20, samsung actually has a carbon fiber case coming out, its real CF too. I am waiting for the day it becomes available

well i received my carbon fiber case today and its pretty nice for a fake carbon look. it fits very snug on phone and the inside of case is silver and the outside has a little bit of a rubber feel to keep from slip from hand. i give it a 7 out 10 for a good case
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740574 this look better IMO well at least the battery cover part
i think this one is better imo well it wont let me post urls lol look for skinomi techskin
Got one 3 days ago pretty good for $8 seller ships out fast. Like the feel of it, has a rubber feel, just enough to keep it from falling out of your pocket. Not planning on dropping my phone to test it's duarbility.

[Q] Anyone know of wood or bamboo cases for the Vibrant?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but the search function is down right now.
I'd LOVE to have a wood or bamboo case for my Vibrant like the way these iphone cases are made: grovemade.com
Anyone have a lead or know someone that will make custom cases out of wood or bamboo?
wow i went to that site and all i can say is wow. that is amazing. i have never seen anything like that for the vibrant but if you find anything let me know! i'm thinkiing of trying it out myself, i'm may be able to make something liek that, minus the laser engraving, it would be just wood, simple but could be cool.
woooooooow. That plain wood amber case is soooo tight. i would definately drop the cash to have one of those that thing looks amazing. My guess would be it would be way more difficult to do a case for the vibrant tho. Iphone 4 is pretty simple and symmetrical. Vibrant is curvy, and has that hump on the bottom of it, i like the way it looks but making a case out of bamboo would be difficult.
It would be GREAT to see some Android logos and guys on that. Wonder how well it holds up to water (washing it) and dropping (breakage)....
If it's Oak im sure it can take a fall its really tough not like that pine crap. As long as it has a good finish on it like Polycrylic or some type of clear coat, it'll be water-proof. I'm definately interested in something like this, I would make one but sadly I don't have access to any woodshop equipment anymore.
ok guys, i posted a week ago that i was thinking about trying to make one of these, and i'm pretty serious about it now. I'm no expert, but i've helped build a few houses and random jobs here and there so i've worked with wood alot. Never anything this small and precise though. I've been gathering up tools and bits for the wood work and i'm about to get started. I can't find any bamboo but i'm probably gonna use oak...we'll see how it goes, may take a week, may take 23 years, who knows. I'll definately post pics when i'm done though. the trickiest part is definately gonna be the hump on the back at the bottom.
I sure hope they start making these. those things are sexy
Never mind.
iPhone gets all the cool accessories -_-

well call me a fashionista becuz i want some cases that actually look decent on my vibrant.. no just some generic stuff.
If it's just the look you want why not try vinyl shelf paper/contact paper? That stuffs pretty durable, cheap and you can get it in oak, bamboo, whatever you want.
Go green guys! Save the environment.
Environment my ass.
Email them at [email protected] and ask them to consider making wooden cases for the Vibrant. More people that contact them, meaning more potential customers, the more reason they would consider making it for us.
Back case?

Better than nothing I guess.

you mean wood veneer? like wood skin right? I've used the stuff on little boxes I've made and it looks beautiful but the tricky part is when you glue it to the wood you want to put it on top of you need something HEAVY to be on top of the ENTIRE thing otherwise it has air pockets and curls up with makes it a real ***** to fix.
but I want real wood! So if I'm about to jinx something, I can knock on my phone.

Hey man keep us all updated!
You'd be QUITE popular here if you can pull it off!

If someone started making these, i would definitely go in on buying one. I'm pretty bummed that all the high quality cases and accessories are only for iphone, where's the android love??
^
Apple = 1 design
Android = multiple designs and different manufacturers
It's a good and bad thing for us.
I just got the seidio case and hate it. I would love to see a legit case like the one in the op too.

Eccentric Case Question - Does this Exist?

After 2 years of an iPhone 4, I'm ditching IOS and moving up to a Pure Google experience Galaxy Nexus.
One of the things I really liked about my iPhone was the case. It was a Pad and Quill The Little Black Book" case that gave the impression that the iPhone was a little notebook. (padandquill.com/cases-for-iphone-ipod-touch/case-for-iphone-4-4s-the-little-black-book.html)
My question for the all knowing gods of XDA, is there such a case for the Samsung Gaxlaxy Nexus? I've found a case for the upcoming Nexus 7 Tablet. (treegloo.com/options/nexus7) but alas, my Google Fu is weak and I cannot find that which I seek. I keep running up against dead-ends of cheep faux leather "book style" cases, nothing like the style and panache of the Moleskin-like real-book-bound Pad and Quill product.
I would even consider having a custom one fabricated if I knew where to go to do that. (Seriously, I would pay $150~$200 to get what I want, such is the nature of a steampunk mental illness)
Any guidance, or the name of a good therapist, would be appreciated.
I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist yet. We here in android land are jealous of very few things on the apple side, but iphone accessory aftermarket is the biggest.
Sorry to say, but the best answer will probably be to get creative and design one your self.
We have a DIY Workshop with lots ideas on docks, charging and painting and stands, but nothing like you are describing yet.
From my time cruising Instructibles, I know the steampunk crowd is also very active builders and tinkerers.
Hope the idea of cutting a little leather doesn't sound too intimidating, because the project sounds cool. And can promise you'll be able to show it of with a lot more pride if its a custom, one-of-a-kind you made than just something anyone can buy.
Anyway, welcome to the light side, and I hope your Gnex treats you well!

The search for a smart watch

If this is not the right place to put this question, let me know or move it accordingly.
Lately I've been looking for a Smart Watch to pair it with my HTC M8.
The options are many, but since I don't have any experience on this, I would like to ask for you opinion. Which one do you think works the best with our M8.
I have in mind the Pebble Steel Smart Watch and the Samsung Gear 2 Neo (but I don't know if it's compatible and documentation is not clear about it).
Any ideas guys?

The smartwatch is a lot like the phone itself... or a real watch, if you're an horologist. What's right for you depends more on you than on the phone.
Which describes you best:
I want to know every Facebook post, every Twitter tweet, every email I get
Some emails are critical.
If it's important, they'll email, and then call to tell me they emailed. And if it's really important, they'll text me to check my voicemail to read my email.
Which is your style:
I'm hip, I'm cool, I'm so now. Well, until tomorrow, at which point I'm yesterday, but I'll fix it.
Geek chic. Sneakers and cargo pants.
What style? If you have a job, you dress decent. I make money, therefore I am. You're not.
Which is more important to you?
Everything everyone is saying. I care. Caring oozes out my pores. It matters.
I have something to accomplish, and I'm going to get it done.
Money. Power. And, BTW, that's not caring that is oozing out the unwashed looser's pores in Answer #1.
So add them up.
If you get 3, get a Samsung Gear. Hey, it's crap, but it's cool big blocky crap. Even the Fit just... doesn't... fit.
If you get a 4-5, yeah, get a Pebble. It's chunky but kinda cool. In an "I still wear Sperry Top-Siders and RayBan Wayfarers" pathetic kind of way, but less uncool than the Gear.
If you get 6-7, maybe look at the Motorola 360. It's cooler, smaller and equally functional, at least in theory, to those Smart- pseudo-watches, but is also a watch form-factor and pretty cool.
If you get an 8-9, look elsewhere. You're an adult now, perhaps consider a real watch. Either a bit of mechanical art such as the CW Mk 5, a beautiful automatic that exposes its guts to you, or something classically masculine such as the much more expensive Omega Speedmaster or Rolex Submariner.
Really it boils down to, how connected do you need to be? How needy are you willing to appear?
(I almost always have a laptop, a cellular iPad with Zagg Folio keyboard and a Samsung tablet in my bag, my HTC One M8 with me... and usually a mechanical, always an analogue, watch on my wrist. Presentation matters.)

Dude let me take my hat off. You're post is one of the best I've read.
And after finishing it, I just realized I don't really need a smart watch
Last night I told my wife "yanno I'm not gonna buy the smart watch, I will get a nice watch instead".
Again, your post was really amazing. I just made my wife read it xD

Stiff case?

Is there any RAZR 5G case that is stiff such that it will hold the phone open at any angle like the Samsung Z Flip3 stays open?
Bingo. I am looking for this exact thing, or a way to tighten the hinge substantially more.
I'm not the only one looking for this!
Nope.. Many manufactures didn't go near this version, because of the fragility.. I'm definitely not knocking the RAZR.. That phone is awesome, in more ways than I'll state on this post, but... It's structural integrity? Yeah.....
If the major players who design and produce cases for just about every phone out there wouldn't touch this job, then there's a reason. Probably because most of the case manufactures have an anti-something guarantee of some type attached to their products.. Something they'd not be able to guarantee with this model unless the case was made out of bubble-wrap, and even then it's still a liability with the price-tag attached.
Never broken a phone in my life, until I owned a RAZR...
However... Something just came to mind.. You have an idea.. Know anyone with a 3d printer?
If you have the original shell on your phone, you could do a scan, and design then form what you like..
I'd think?.... a resistance hinge connecting two covers would work.. Perhaps something with teeth? Ziptie mechanism? Non-conductive liquid adhesive sprayed in the gears?
... Yeano.. Don't spray liquid adhesive.. Even though it'd probably work, because of how tight everything is in there, you'd almost definitely screw something else up...
When thinking about this idea, keep this in mind.
I believe the reason they didn't put more resistance with the internal hinge, is specifically to protect that internal screen as much as possible... Coming from someone who's fixed a few, there is NOTHING under that screen, except for parts, and two lithium batteries.. That phone is pretty open, once you've seen the inside.
Great design when it comes to concept.. Hands down...
Practicality when in comes to human hands doing human things with human attention spans attached?
Wrap it in bubble wrap and mantle that device.
Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you come up with...

I've definitely noticed it's been a love/hate relationship with it, from many people. I get it.
To be honest with you? What I initially liked about it? I could put it in my pocket, and sit again without having to keep it out.. lol
Features are still awesome, though how fragile it is, along with the difficulty of repairing it.. Being ambidextrous really helps when it comes to repairing this one btw... and the replacement parts prices?
Yeah... If I didn't try my luck at the repair job, I wouldn't of ever owned one. Too much cost, with too much risk..
Next one though... Pixel definitely, and that's because of the apps... That recorder is awesome.. Don't even have to announce verbal punctuation most of the time...
Might actually get around to writing a novel now.. lol
