my Carbon Fiber vinyl wrapped Captivate - Captivate Accessories

So I was searching on eBay for cases or skins for my new phone, and came across some knock-off DecalGirl.com carbon fiber skins that looked terrible - then I thought to myself.... "Self, I can do this on my own with some scrap 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber I have lying around!"
And so I did, and my Galaxy S now has hidden buttons, AT&T and Samsung branding removed, and is MUCH easier to grip since the 3M Di-Noc material is TEXTURED just like real carbon fiber! What do you think?

Before anyone asks.....
I got the live wallpaper from HERE!
For anyone wondering why I didn't do the aluminum battery cover.... this vinyl CAN make the item you're wrapping trap in the heat, and the sides and top don't expel heat like the battery cover does. With over 9 years in the business of doing vinyl graphics, I have a LITTLE knowledge on the subject....
I am not taking any commissions on doing this to your phone, sorry.... the other vinyls available on eBay will just have to do because this stuff is too expensive and this was too time consuming to do for any customer, plus, I am NOT soliciting my services on here to do it, so don't ask! I do this professionally and install the material, I do NOT sell it for you to buy. Google it if you want this for yourself, but expect to spend well over the 2 hours this took me to do if you don't have any experience. Don't forget your heat gun and X-Acto knife with lots of fresh blades!
Again, all the buttons function exactly as they did from the factory. I have NO issues with this, so don't try and bash this concept because you think the buttons don't work - if they didn't work, I wouldn't leave this on! FUNCTION over FORM
I am a carbon fiber junkie - if this isn't your thing, that's okay! I appreciate you being able to appreciate my hard work on my day off, finally....

Nice job! I think it looks pretty slick.

That looks absolutely amazing. I wish I could do something like that, but about the only experience I have putting plastics on my phones is the zagg/etc screen protectors...

I can't say I am a big fan of carbon fiber and that would not have been my choice.
That being said, it looks very well done and you can tell that a lot of time was put into it. That's a custom piece that would be great to flash about. Well done!
Other patterns that would be interesting; wood, stitching, or a nice riveted rusty metal plating.

I think the pattern is too big. If it would be smaller like the battery cover it would be x10 better.

BTW, did you see this one yet?

I just posted a response about my skinomi experience a couple hours ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747933
I had no idea that skinomi had anything but "clear" for the captivate. I would have got something different, had I known. Nice to know for future purchase...

Thanks for the comments! 3M Di-Noc does sell other patterns including wood and brushed metals, I believe, but when it comes to high-tech, nothing beats carbon fiber, IMO. As my grandfather used to say, "for different tastes, they invented colors"
The pattern is a standard 2 x 2 carbon fiber weave. When matched up with my other carbon products that I've made sure to buy only 2 x 2's, it looks to be right around the same size, but I see what you're getting at when it comes to the difference between it and the aluminum battery cover. Prior to installing the carbon vinyl, I have been told a few times that "the battery cover even looks like carbon fiber!" by friends who know how much I love the material. Now, and while I was installing the vinyl, I noted that it looks more like a flat checkerboard pattern, and the contrast between the two looks a little more aesthetic to me, personally. My 80GB Zune has a pattern on it that is similar to this skin from eBay:
Which was the only carbon fiber skin available for the Zune at the time, but I hate the small, tight weave on it. I believe that carbon should look 3D and have strands large enough to see the actual pattern on it, not be so tight that it really does look like a checkerboard with no depth to the weave! This one would have been a better choice for me if I didn't have this in stock and didn't have the time to do it myself yesterday:
but printed-on vinyl being what it is with no texture to it..... I still would have been disappointed by the outcome (and also wonder where the Galaxy S logo went to on the battery cover!). I remember back in 1997 when I bought my first roll of printed-on carbon fiber vinyl and thought it was so cool, putting it all over the interior of my car! I look back at those pictures and I'm thankful for how far 3M decided to take it 12 years later when they released Di-Noc last year and I bought 30 yards of it immediately!

I think the application is phenomenal, and although I'm not a huge fan of carbon fiber, I can appreciate the fact that you used REAL carbon fiber. Congrats, looks sick.

well.... it is still not REAL carbon, the 3M Di-Noc material is the only vinyl used that has both 3D effects and texture - many printed carbon vinyls may have 3D or some textured vinyl may look close, but none have both like this does and look as real as it gets - thanks though!

Great job I think it looks fantastic. I do however like the buttons at the bottom visible, but covering up the Samsung logo would be nice ;P

Didn't it cover both the ATT + Samsung logo?

Yep, my wrap covers both logos on the front, including the softkeys. They don't stay on long enough to be worth anything, and after using for 3 weeks now, I know where they are

Pretty awsome

3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber Vinyl
I covered the battery door of my TMOUSA HD2 with Di-Noc and it came out great. I purchased a 4"x8" sample for $8 and it's enough to do 2 HD2 battery doors.
I plan on covering the center console of my 2004 Mazda 6 with the same material. The Di-Noc looks great and is very easy to work with. Using a heat gun or hair dryer allows you to easily cover corners and odd shapes.
I think you did an EXCELLENT job on your Galaxy S. If I would have known about Di-Noc a couple of months ago I would have covered my Blackberry with it!

Thought this looked really cool so decided to see what other patterns you can get the stuff in, and there are a ton. For anyone interested, check out this website...
http://www.idsfinishes.com/gallery/
I really dig some of the wood finishes, might look cool on my HD2 . Thinking about giving it a go soon.
By the way, you did a pretty damn excellent job on yours, though I'm not much a fan of carbon fiber myself.
Edit: On second thought... That white carbon fiber looks pretty awesome, heh. To the OP or anyone else who has used it, my only concern is... How thick is the stuff? I have an extended battery case that the HD2 slides into and I'm afraid if I put this on it'll be too thick to still slide in. Any truth to that?

How difficult is it to remove the vinyl if you botch the job or if you just get bored of it? Does it leave a gooey residue everywhere?

this.
and wow i must say this mod looks sick nasty. +1

The stuff IS pretty thick.... In some of my pics, you can see the depth of the product, it will add about 1mm to the overall width of the phone, which makes me interested in how it will work in the ProClip holster for the car I plan on buying when they make it! Since it has a nice amount of texture, it has to give it some thickness, but much of that is pretty negligible when you use a heat gun to wrap it nicely....
The question about sticky residue is something I get every time someone sees the work..... It leaves NO residue, same quality you can expect from all 3M products..... My best advice is to take it SLOWLY and use a heat gun when necessary, not on every surface! Just use it for edges, straight or curved, and cut with the sharpest x-acto blades you can find!

Not sure if anybody's tried this case or posted a thread about it but this TPU case is less than 5 bucks so I figured I can't really lose much here if I'm not satisfied. I bought the other TPU case that's pretty common on ebay with the polygon design on the back and I hated it because it made the unlock button so ridiculously hard to press that I had to use my nail. I eventually ended up cutting the button out with a razor blade but I was still unhappy because I didn't like the polygon design.
When I saw this case I noticed in the photos that the button design on the case were circular instead of squared like the other TPU case and that the back design were just criss-cross diagonal lines which I thought looked MUCH better and the circular button design appeared to function a lot better from the photos although I wasn't quite sure but like I said I figured what the heck could I really lose but 5 bucks.
Anywho, I got the case in today and it's the PERFECT case that I've been looking for. It keeps the phone looking thin and the buttons are soft and easy to press just like I was hoping. It functions just like the black silicone case you can get from tmobile but still keeps the phone looking thin. I definitely recommend this case and I think it comes in various colors.
Just wanted to give my .02 cents and sorry for the ridiculously long post lol

I can't really take any photos cause I don't have another camera but it pretty much looks exactly the way it's shown in the ebay photos. The fitment is great also. It's really well worth the 4.48 or whatever the price was lol.
I had something similar for my HTC Magic, the one issue I had with the case though is since it is silicone and not as hard as some materials, you have to make sure you keep the case in its shape; I flashed a new Rom on my Magic every 12 hours (which required to take the case on and off frequently) and my case started to become deformed and leave major spaces between the phone and the case allowing dust to get inside.
This is just my experience from a similar product but try it, it protected my phone from many drops without giving the phone itself any damage.

do these types of cases stick to your pockets? I have the t-mobile gel case and it pulls my pocket lining out with it half the time.

No these are made of tpu so it's not sticky like ordinary silicone skins. It's a more solid material. Doesn't have that rubbery feel that regular silicone cases have. I have the tmobile gel skin too and although it's much better then your average silicone case I didn't like how it added a lot of bulk to the front of the phone.
thanks, i agree the t-mobile case is bulky as well

ahhh, i bought that, got it 2 days ago, i LOVE it.
it covers the front around all the way until the glass area so its very tight.
very flexible, and in my opinion i think it offers more protection than the hard cases because of the cushioning you get from the flexibility of the material, but its still very solid, pretty easy to take on and off too.
bought one and agree
very nice case, great tight fit, minus the annoyances of all other cases I had tried

Ah Ok, I was hoping it was somewhat simular. I could really go for another look. Black gets a bit boring after a while.

Atrix TPU Case Received, pics inside

Hey everyone, I received my TPU case from EBay (item 290530353216) today, here are some comments and pics. The fit is only OK - the cutout for the USB/HDMI ports is a little off, and there is a little bit of an edge around the power button that impedes fingerprint swipability a little. I will say too that I didn't expect it to have the goofy pattern - what is it with TPU cases and argyle patterns?? Also, as you've noticed it is somewhat translucent.
I give it a 3/5. $7 shipped in the US. I'll keep it until another inexpensive case rolls around that is higher quality.
And just in case anyone wonders, on my screen are the Pandora Widget, Android Agenda Widget, and some apps. I am running ADW Launcher (free). Also, I know I left my back panel sticker on there, and that was on purpose.

Yeah seriously with the frikin argyle ****! Its like they made a billion sheets of the argyle TPU and they just like heat mold them to phones (not like thats how they're made). This will be my third phone encased in argyle TPU. Other two were the dark one like yours, this time I got sick of trying to hide the argyle and people asking about the stupid pattern. I got clear so, "yes its frikin argyle! got a problem!?"
Waiting for the Realook screen protectors to be cut. no idea why it takes them so long to cut the right size. Realooks are by far the best screens...
Everything is temporary at this point...I'll buy nicer stuff once my 30 days are up.
I was fortunate enough to have a solid black non-patterned TPU case for my EVO that someone on this forum actually commissioned and was selling out of their garage essentially.
Check out tpu-cases.com. I bought an all black one there, shipped same day. Quality is nice, it's glossy, feels good in the hand for an 8$ case.
the 1.99 one I got from ebay is decent
Nice, never seen that site before. I'll order one up and hopefully it'll get here by the time I'm home from travel. Wish someone would make one like I had for my Evo though - it was matte on the back and shiny on the front.

Well I tried the Speck (or whatever it's called) case from AT&T and hated it...looked and felt like a toy.
Then I tried the Otterbox Impact (the smallest case they make). It's made of a type of rubber that sucks up all dust and won't let it go. It's pure black rubber but after putting it in my pocket and driving up to Starbucks to meet some friends...it looked gray. My pockets don't have any lint or anything in them...and yet the case now looks completely gray. I just put it on yesterday. It's also a bit big for my tastes...and the phone can easily come out of the bottom.
I'm going to try the cheapest cases on eBay. They always worked great for my Nexus 1 and most other phones I've used. The cheap thin rubber is fantastic for me. The phone's so freaking sexy...I just don't want to add a bunch of mass to it.

i like the feather as well. not much in terms of impact protection, but most of my scratches come from the phone vibrating on the desk over time and scuffing the battery door, so its a nice line of defense against that. also, its a little less slippery than the standard battery door which i like

Yeah its great for worrying less about the normal wear and tear.
I particular like the argyle tpu cases which give decent protection and feel. i have it for the ipad, galaxy tab, atrix, inspire, and xoom.
www.degasis.net offers these as well
I ordered my case from http://www.degasis.net/models/atrix.html (as the poster above recommended. $6.98 shipped
This is the best fitting TPU case I've had across all my devices. The best part is that it actually makes the on/off button easier to push and the finger scanner easier to operate (its cut at the perfect angle to compliment it). Its slightly different cut but a better fit than the pictures posted above.
I'll post pictures when I come across another camera some time today or tomorrow.
TPU is far superior to any other case material in my book. perfect balance of grip/non-stick, thinness, protection, and fit.

[Review] Acase Leather Ez Folio Case

So the initial reason why I decided on the galaxy tab was because of its incredibly thin profile and light design.
I searched for days picking apart cases so I could keep that thin, light profile.
Well I think we found a winner folks. Its the Acase Ez Leather Folio Case.
It has an excellent feel to it, holding the tablet very tightly inside. It has those nifty magnetic flaps to keep it shut when needed. It has all of the ports cut out properly, including speakers, and the build quality is top notch.
It really has the two best viewing angles you could ask for. Perfect for typing, perfect for watching movies.
When you fold back its flap, it keeps the tablet thin and easy to view in landscape.
I guess my only 2 gripes is there not being a cut out for the charger when the flap is closed. But that seems to be very common among all folio cases. I guess they are trying to keep the dust out. Not a big deal for me as I am pretty good with a ruler and an exacto knife.
My other gripe is the bowing of the edges around the rim of the glass. It doesnt lay completely flat or flush. Although I will say its extremely stiff and probably the best I've seen in comparison. Alot of the other folio cases use a super thin and flapity leather or vinyl and, not only does it look cheap its very loose. This one is definitely an improvement over those. Its tight and uses a very thick, high quality leather, best I've seen.
If your looking for a high quality leather folio case that will keep your tablet thin & light without breaking the bank, then I recommended you go pick this one up on Amazon for $30 Shipped.
Dont forget to hit thanks if this post helped you!!

Looks very functional and thin but I am not loving the contrast white stitching.
I can't decide if I want to put full Ghost Armor on my GT or go for one of these type of cases. I would have loved the knock off Apple smart case, hopefully Samsung will approve that one soon. Screw crapple.
Personally, I love the white stitching. It matches my wallet and shoes! Haha.
Comparing it to all other folio cases, at least this one is unique with its own bit of personality and style. Searching through tons of cases, I was tired of seeing the same boaring straight black cases. I guess to each his own, but I like it cause it stands out.

Thanks for this! I was about to pull the trigger on the official Samsung case, but then I figured I'd take another quick look at the forums to see if I missed anything. I looked at your post and immediately changed my mind. I was looking for something that didn't add much bulk to the device, but would protect it fairly well. This looks pretty stylish to boot.
Also got a 3 pack of the same company's screen protectors for the Tab for 20 percent off with purchase of this case on Amazon. Ordering the case and the protectors, with next day shipping on Prime was 48 dollars, still about 20 dollars less than the Samsung case. Thank you SO much!
I like the case, just not the stitching, just my opinion.
The problem with getting such a brand new device is there not being anough quality choices in cases. Happens to me a lot because I unfortunately like to be an early adopter. I have spent so much money on Blackberry cases because I changed berries so damn often. Same happene with my Evo, bought a Golla pouch that I thought I would really like and then ended up not liking it so I got something else.
I may just do a full Ghost Armor for now until I find the ideal case, or just get the pasic slip in case for now.
I would have to agree on the stitching aspect. I like the case and would definitely buy it but I just think that doesn't sit with me for some reason. Thanks for the review.Nice to get one from a user aspect and not a company. Something I have been reading and searching for all day.
I love the look of this case. I am down to this case and the Melkco case. Tough decision to make.
Your welcome!

One of these days i will take a picture of my shoes and wallet and youll see what im talking about
This reminds me of the Yoobao executive folio case that I had for my iPad2. Have been looking for something like that and this is almost exactly like it.
Thx alot for the tip bro.
I received my Acase case today. It is a very sleek leather case that does not take away from it's attractiveness and yet its a great protective cover for my GT10.1. It is the best of both worlds.
Amazon Prime members can get it for a total of 24.95 landed.

That's my homemade case ... all materials are recycle except for to crazy glue.

Got mine and have been using it for about three weeks. I agree with the review overall. Unfortunately, the stitching on one of the corners is coming apart. I hope I can return it.
As long as you haven't poured something on the case or abused the case, you should be able to rightfully claim poor workmanship. No vendor wants to see bad reviews of their business on Amazon or on any message board.
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I think this deserves some bumpage.
I've been using the case for a few weeks now and I have one major complaint. Either the stitching is coming loose, or the leather is wearing down already. The leather tab that folds over the tablet to keep it in place does not stretch tightly anymore.
This means that when holding the tablet normally, since the bottom of the tablet rests on this flap, the tablet falls through the case quite a bit. Not only do the speakers get covered since it's not sitting right in the case anymore, but the entire thing is just annoying. Very hard to hit volume or power buttons, etc.
The Tab has not fallen completely out of the case....yet. But I can see that is where this is heading.
Funny thing is, I haven't even used the Tab all that much since getting the case. This case wore VERY quickly, and now I'm looking into other options. Don't think I can get my money back from Amazon at this point either
Anybody else with this case seeing this happen?
EDIT: Can take pictures to show what I'm talking about if asked

ROCK quicksand light grey case

This is a review on the ROCK quicksand case in light grey for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

I've just received the case, so I will try to report back in a few weeks to let you know how it's holding up in use.
First thing I want to touch on is the design. It's really a beautiful case. I hear people talking about how their otterbox or body glove case enhances the look of the phone and I just don't see it. I prefer something clean and minimalist, that goes with the aesthetic of the phone. I think this case hits that, of course it's all personal preference.
It's very thin, and doesn't add noticeable bulk in the jeans pocket. It's easy to get in and out of the pocket, the material is grippy in the hand but doesn't grab onto my pockets.
The cutouts are really well done, they may look a little bit off in some of the photos but that is due to camera angle and lighting shadows, they are actually dead on. The volume rocker and lock button are just as easy to press, in fact maybe slightly easier due to the cutout guiding your finger onto the button. One small touch I really like is the slight lip around the camera cutout. It looks slick, but it also seems like something that will help the camera lens from getting scratched when setting it down on the table. It also has a slight lip on the top, so setting it down on a table will not get your screen dirty. I have the zagg invisbleshield on there (terrible product) and this case does not pull up the edges on that screen protector.
The texture of the case is the main difference between this and other slim hardcases, and it's a very nice feel. I was worried when I heard people comparing it to sandpaper, because sandpaper gives me that nails on chalkboard feeling when I touch it. But it's not like that, it's more like a river smoothed sandstone, with a touch of rubber feeling underlying it. It adds a bit of grip to the phone that the naked gs3 was missing, it won't be easy to drop, even if your hands are sweaty from working out.
Overall the fit and finish on this case is exceptional. I tried on a few tpu style cases at the mall, as well as some of the ones t-mobile was offering, and the quality on this blows all of those away. It snaps on easily and has a nice tight fit. The mold lines on the sides are only noticeable in just the right lighting, when looking real close. There is no flashing at all. It's nothing like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765882
This is obviously not a case for those who need heavy duty drop protection, but if you want something with great design that makes the phone feel better in your hand give it a shot.
I snagged it on ebay from 168sunflowers20060621 , and I'm pretty sure it's not a fake. I paid $13.50 and it took about 2 and a half weeks to ship from HK.
Here's the rest of the photos:
Looks great, mine is sitting in my office right now....worked from home today. I'll pick it up tomorrow to play with. I was right with you on the light grey with the white S3.
Got a black one for my blue s3. I love it, and as stupid as it sounds the combination matches my Volvo s60r interior perfectly...not that i care or planned that....lol

Nice! My car has gray leather, I did not think about that until you mentioned it, but it is a good match! Haha. Post up a pic, I'd love to see how the dark grey looks.
I had the black version (for my blue phone) sitting on my desk at work two weeks before the phone was even available.
Awesome case, the phone won't slip out of your hands with this case installed.
Great review (and nice pics). I have a white carbon fiber back coming and wonder if it would fit in this case.
Looks like Amazon has it for 15.99 with free Prime shipping.

I kinda doubt it, the quicksand case is a really snug fit.

Dunno about the carbon fiber back, but jmorton is right, it's very closely fitted. That amazon link is the way to go, I def would have paid the extra $3 to get it in 2 days instead of 3 weeks. Not complaining though, I got good service and a good deal from the ebay seller.
I still haven't seen anyone pick up that plum color, i'm curious what it looks like in real life. Kinda reminds me of these: http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/pro11.html
+1 on the case. I have it and LOVE it. Adds the perfect amount of weight to the phone.
+1
I never used cases on my other phones, really don't care for them. I picked up this case because of the reviews and style. It may offer minimal protection, but for someone that doesn't like cases it will due. Hopefully work if i fumble the phone.
I got mine right after I got the phone, I love it. I was thinking about ordering the grey one, I have the black one!
edit - yep just ordered the grey one. can never have too many cases, right?
Well, I am in for one. Thanks OP. I will post how it fits with the carbon fiber back as well.

Please do, as I am indecisive on which one to get for my blue phone. I really didn't want to get a case, but seeing as how I dropped it on cement earlier tonight, i'm gonna have to in order to cover the dents/scratches up. :/

Sure thing, I'll take a few in the morning.'
here's the album I made - http://imgur.com/a/BcMmK
sorry for them being sideways, imgur was being stupid and not letting me rotate them
Case arrived this morning and in good order. There are a couple of rough edges which will need to be trimmed (at the bottom where I normally rest my pinkies as I type and the top corners).
It certainly adds a nice amount of texture to the device, but I haven't determined if my over sensitive skin will be able to handle the effect long term yet.
There is a negligible difference on weight with this case, and I found it slides in and out of my pocket easily.
For those of you who own one, can you see a visible molding line around the edge? This one is obvious in some places.

Mine is perfect (black one). Mine has no rough edges or visible molding lines whatever.
Finger dent from the case
Molding
And the final reason to return: the edges will quickly wear leaving a darker plastic beneath.
Thankfully I bought through Amazon, so returns shouldn't be an issue.

Where to Purchase:
Both of these links contain mostly the same cases, but there are a few that are available in one and not the other. So if there is a case you want that is located in both, buy from the seller that charges less!

DISCLAIMER:
Just to be sure, I’m going to say beforehand, if you don’t already know, these are hardcases! With that in mind, know that these cases will not protect you from a drop! Scratch and scrape protection only!!
If you are the type that drops your phone, DON’T buy these cases.
If you do buy a case and drop your phone, and something unfortunate happens… DON’T blame me!

On my seemingly never ending search for the right case for every occasion, I stumbled upon the Painted “Lichi Grain” Hardcases. I am assuming “Lichi Grain” means leather look. Google search comes up with “Litchi” while every case of this style is “Lichi” so I don’t know. Maybe it’s just universally spelled wrong… who knows.
Anyway, these caught my eye for 3 reasons:
1) They are hardcases, which for better or worse, satisfy my minimalism addiction.
2) They have a neat texture.
3) They have painted pictures on them!
So, I decided to have a look through all of them and test one out. There are 20+ different designs to choose from. Some case designs are clearly meant for kids, some for girls, and some just weird…but I’ll hand it to them, they have a little bit of everything. I narrowed it down to the Skull, the weird anime Mario (not sure where I would ever use it!), and what I eventually settled on, which was the stylized Superman symbol. I figured I couldn’t be a grown ass man walking around with an anime Mario case… as much as the nostalgia was hitting me hahaha.
Presentation:
When I ordered it I was expecting the typical envelope with the case just wrapped in foam or something, which is generally how it is when you order something from overseas. While this came in an envelope, it was actually packaged nicely when I opened it up. It comes in a nice protective package, with a little window so you can feel the texture of the case. The presentation was a pleasant surprise.
When I cracked the package open and held the case you do notice the texture quite well. It isn’t two layers where it is a hardcase and then a leather coating or something. The plastic itself is textured and grooved like that. When you feel the case, you do feel the bumps and grooves, but it’s not a soft or grippy texture. The feeling is along the lines of the White Ringke Slim, the White Spigen Ultra Fit, the White LG Hardshell, or any standard polycarbonate case with no additional coating on it. This is just “Lichi Grain” textured. So I would consider it smooth but bumpy? If that makes any sense at all.
The painted picture on it made no discernable difference to the feel of the case. It still felt exactly the same as a standard polycarbonate case. So I don’t know what kind of paint they used, but you don’t feel it anyway. Whether or not the paint begins to wear/rub off or not, I have no idea, but for the short time I’ve had it, it seems durable enough.
Build Quality:
The case is thin and bendable. I would say it is just a bit thicker than the LG Hardshell (for those of you who have that). Following along those lines, you will know that this case will provide 0 drop protection. I think if you bent it outward too much, it would snap in half. Not that it would break putting it on and taking it off the phone, but just so you have an idea of the thickness of the case, and it being minimalist.
As for the cutouts, tight would be an appropriate word. It fits around the camera and flash very closely, but ever so slightly off centre (by like .25mm or something) and the power and volume cutouts are rounded and indented. I honestly would like them a tiny bit bigger, but if you are a fan of precise button cutouts, this doesn’t disappoint.
There is the slightest lip for a “lay on the table” screen down design. I never do, but if you want your case to be seen, you can do it without the screen touching the table (but just barely).
Looks:
I like it. The colors and contrast are very nice. The white is a bright white (the camera didn’t capture it well without flash due to how the room was lit) and I like the pattern used inside of the Superman symbol. It is not just a black stamp, but an interesting design in itself. The “Lichi Grain” also adds to the look and gives it some extra character. So I wasn’t disappointed at all in the looks department. It is a classy looking case.
Overall:
I’m pleasantly surprised. I figured I would give it a chance and it turned out nicer than I expected. It’s a nice looking case, quite thin, and the design/texture are done very well. I have no idea about the durability of the paint, so that’s still up in the air, but it looks nice regardless.
I’m not sure how often I’ll use it, as I still love my quicksand cases (of course) and I will soon have a Slickwraps skin to put on my replacement Red Nexus 5 (whenever they decide to ship it…) but I know I can pull this case out whenever I need a change of pace.
Pros:
- Sweet Design
- “Lichi Grain” Texture
- Thin/Minimalist
Cons:
- Durability of the paint is unknown
- Thin/Minimalist (so overall strength)
But they're like $7 above the usual price you used to pay for a case. You've got a big raise at work or what? ;D

Haha no kidding huh?
Just a bit of a change of pace is all. Still love my quicksand cases but I thought these ones were really neat.
The quicksand cases are definitely still my top pick. Build quality, texture, feel, price, etc. can't be beat. This was kind of an impulse buy based solely on looks.

Oh wow. Just what I've been looking for. A hard case without that soft touch material I really don't like. Looks like the caseology but in a much thinner design with exposed buttons. Just wish I could find it in a plain solid color.
