Couple of questions from an iPhone user - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the desire recently and am very impressed with it, however cannot figure a couple of things
How do I add a map location to a contact? I can locate myself on the map but I don't know how to add that location to a contact.
Also, on the iPhone, I could tap on top of the screen to scroll back to the top. Can you do that with android?
Thanks

Hi I was in the same boat as you with the iPhone then jumped to the Desire. I'm not sure about the maps with contacts but in the browser if you press menu the address bar will show up at the top of your screen.

I am not sure you can add location info to a contact by an option in maps but contacts do link to maps if the address is entered in to the contact and they become navigable using google nav. Sorry if you already know this.

I think what you're describing is a feature of google latitude. Once you sign up for it, you can see the location of your friends who have latitude on your phone via google maps.

If what you want is information on the location of known persons at any time, this is a feature of Google Latitude, all you need to do is sign in and you get the position of all your known contacts (if they allow this).
If what you want is a way to navigate to the address of the contact, If you inform the address on the contact information Google Navigator will allow you to navigate to the destination.

I have not found any equivalent to this, all you can achieve is showing the nav var touching the menu buttton, but you can't scroll back to the top of the page with one single movement.

You can add businesses as contacts if they are visible on maps but if you want to add an address to a contact you will need to do that from the people app.

I thought you just had to add a postal address to their contact information. Once that's done it will give you an option to "View ... address".

Thanks for the responses. In Dubai, we have pretty bad adressing system and about the only way is to arrive at the destination and add it. That's what I used to do on the iPhone by dropping in a pin andc adding that to a contact

HTC RSS reader

Hi
I've added 2 subscriptions to the rss reader but I can only get one feed to show in the widget. is there anyway to change this? id love the two showing on the widget

I have not succeeded in doing so and, therefore, now use BlueRSS without a widget.
Yep, I couldn't get more than one to show in the widget at a time either. A very strange oversight I think. I even went through the hassle of exporting my google reader feeds and importing into the news widget.
Anyway, installed netashare (free) which syncs with google reader and is rather tasty indeed (no widget mind).

This isn't good news, no pun intended, because I love rss feeds. Incidentally, when you double/ single tap to open the actual widget, does it show the second subscription at all? There must be a way of showing threaded rss feeds for each subscription, otherwise what is the point. I'll check all the youtube review videos and see if I can find anything. Either way let us now if you figured it out cause I'm getting this phone myself next month.
its simple, press and hold the screen so its highlighted and drag it down to the bottom to delete the widget.
then press the plus key at the bottom right and select widget.
then select "news"
then press the "select" button (making sure you choose widget style 1 of 2)
then select "All stories" which is just below the "Add feeds" button
hope that helps
haha thanks mate I worked that out last night!

Open the News application (not the widget) and long-click on the feed you want to remove and hit delete.

Google Naigation query

Lovin' everything about this phone at the moment but just a quick q' about the satnav element of google maps... On tomtom you can be set your current location as a favourite from the on screen menus, I haven't been able to find a way to do this on this google nav, is it possible?
sorry, can't find a way to edit the thread title - should read Google NaVigation query-
When you get google maps to find your current location, if you click on the 'pin' you should get a new screen with the details of that location etc. In the top right corner is a star, so you can 'star' that location as a favourite, like you do in Gmail, Reader etc.
AFAIK you can't set a Home location though
Indeed you can! Brilliant & thank you very much. I also just noticed the "labs" stuff with all the different buttons, I like this phone the more I get to know it.
Thanks for the quick help, appreciate it.
Anyone found a way of adding safety camera info/alerts to Google navigation?
The last touch to a great application!!
u can add a home, I presume u have your home phone number in it? Add your address to the home contact then use the navigate to contact, home and done

[Q] Can't change the photo of a facebook linked contact

The title says it all, but I will try to explain it more. So I have a contact that's linked to a facebook, so the contact's photo is taken from facebook. When I edit the contact, tab on the photo, change it with one from my gallery, then save the contact, it shows me again the facebook photo, not the one that I've chosen from the gallery.
Stock Froyo...
Anyone any thoughts about this?
Yeah, I have the same problem, no one bothered to help me, lets try again
If you view the contact in HTC People, tap on where it says "Linked" in the top right corner. Then tap on the photo - you can then choose from all the pictures you have assigned to the contact - including from facebook, google, camera and gallery etc.
yeah but it doesn't change them no matter what I choose
thanks anyway
if you know how to remove the f****ng FB contacts from the dialer I will apreciate it very much
Think you have to unlink.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You don't hv to unlink.. Be sure to display the "main" contact is either phone or google contact, whichever u changed the picture. Pick from drop down list..
If u don't wanna see FB friends, just uncheck it from People - Menu - View, uncheck facebook for htc

It did actually work this time, strange I did the same thing several times before and it didn't
I was talking about the ones at the bottom of the dialer, I got rid of the others a while ago, but it still displays the ones that have phone numbers in the dialer
thanks guys

Switch default app to show map from contacts

Using insertcoin ROM (if that matters). Tapping on the contacts address from HTC contacts app brings up HTC Navigation. How to switch to Google Maps instead?

Are you rooted? Do you ever use the Locations app for anything else?

Try the following:
In the app drawer
Go to "Car"
Go to settings.(Press the small buttons below the weather, clock etc)
Go to default navigation app and change it to what you want there.
I'm also having trouble with this. When ever I click on a contact address it opens up HTC Locations, and there are no defaults sets for Locations app to clear.

Thanks, that solved the problem. :good:
However there is tiny issue with it; when opening google maps with "Select other map" option, that dreadful 3 dot menu option appears on the bottom, and it stays there (even inside Google navigation if I load it from maps) till i switch out of the app and switch back in again. A minor inconvenience, but far better than always going to edit contact > Copy address > load Google maps > Paste and search for the address.
