Yes, you do.
Edit: And your post would be Q&A, not development.

Did u try pressing volume down and power at the ! Screen? I know clockwork usually comes up directly using rom manager, but you can still get to clockwork that way.

You need to update the recovery from rom manager.

None of these suggestions are going to do any good if he hasn't the flashed the engineering image.

ok just relized its in the wrong section and yea i read some wear u didnt need to flash the eng spl but i guess i have to so off to do that

I did previously flash the ENG build and I have to go through the first part of the root process every time I want to use Clockwork. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...

Why would you not flash the eng? It takes 5 minutes that save on asking repetitive questions. Many people will tell you that you DON'T need to flash it, but if everybody flashed the eng build, everytime there was a problem people wouldn't have to ask, "Did you flash the eng build?" Kind of a time-saver and yes it irons out ALL the kinks other than user error.
The belief that it WASN'T necessary was started by Wes Garner because one of his ROMS never installed correctly, but to this day, it still remains uninstallable...so it has nothing to do with the eng build being the prob.
Just my 2 cents, bro.

The engineering rom being optional is like saying leaving gas in your car is optional. I mean, sure, you could always leave it empty and walk to the gas station with a can and come back every time you wanted to start it, but its a heck of a lot easier if you just leave some gas in the tank for next time.

Tick...tick...tick....

Just make sure you keep the update.zip on your sd. It didn't let you get straight into clockwork anyway. You need rom manager or bootloader to recovery then update.zip will get you in everytime with the ENG build

Yes u will lose root and should reset back to S-ON. Just rename zip to PD15IMG.zip and boot into bootloader and it should find it and ask you to continue flashing it. Afterwards u should have a Original Stock MT4G as when u first got it.

The file in the original post will OVERWRITE EVERYTHING ON THE DEVICE and wipe it 100% clean.
If you merely want to apply the update to the phone but leave all of her personal data intact, use the file I've linked below, name it UPDATE.ZIP and apply it by following directions below.
http://www.filedropper.com/update1pd15img
THIS PROCEDURE ASSUMES SHE IS ON STOCK ROM AND NOT ROOTED
copy the file to the root of your sdcard. make sure it is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip. If you don't know what this means, let me know.
power off phone.
hold vol down + power until you get to a white screen.
use the volume buttons to select RECOVERY then click power.

when phone reboots you should be in a blue menu. Android oem recovery 2e or something like that.
select apply update.zip and stand back and let the phone do it's thing. DON'T TOUCH IT WHILE IT'S WORKING!!
When it reboots she should be on 2.2.1.
So basically this is just the PD15IMG we already have? Or will this replace bootloader, recovery and all thus eliminating the need to reverse gfree kinda like sappimg.nbh for the mytouch 3g?

I *THINK* gfree is a separate issue, but not sure. You'd have to ask the creator of that thread. The PD15IMG we already had was pre-ota 2.2, meaning we had to apply a second update.zip to get back to post-ota 2.2.1.
I think this new PD15IMG in the OP of this thread is post-ota so we can completely unroot in one step. I'm very stoked.

Me also eliminates many steps. Should be awesome also if it also reversed gfree.

Taking my phone in to the sprint store tomorrow.. how do i unroot?

So im going to take my phone in to the sprint store tomorrow because the camera is all grainy and messed up now. I tried to wipe it several times but its still grainy. Its probably from cyanogen and all the flashing but i cant tell. What are the steps i can take to go back to stock before i go there? How do i unroot and so on?

Go to the unrevoked site, download the s-on tool, flash in recovery, make sure you become s-on.
Then download a 3.70 RUU in PC36IMG form, or as an exe and then run it.
If you do the exe form, make sure the phone is connected in fastboot before you run.
Read my guide if you used unrevoked 3 I have the links u need. CM wouldnt of caused your cam issues some cams started going bad thats why 0004 got a fix for that.
Also, i have a custom rom flashed in right now.

NP man all links are there should make it easy as pie. Get the stock RUU PC36IMG.ZIP and the UNREVOKED FOREVER SON ZIP. FLASH THE UNREVOKED FOREVER SON ZIP FIRST IT WILL TURN S ON AND THEN BOOT INTO BOOTLOADER AND IT WILL RUN THE RUU PC36IMG.ZIP .
Make sure you delete them after your back to stock so sprint wont see them on your sd card.
Is much easier if u only do a ruu of the lastest update. U dont need no guide. Only make sure u have sync installed and format ur sd card ones ur done with the process.

It's got the links he needs man plus you have to turn s back on won't do you any good to flash a RUU with it off.
Or flash sprint lovers.. They never noticed me.. And that way you can just flash back afterwards
If you don't turn S on and you flash anything other then stock RUU there is always a chance you will get your warranty voided if they decide to do a hard reset and boot your phone into bootloader they will see it so why risk it.

Bricked EVO?

So I installed unrevoked [Followed step by step everything was fine]
Here's where I think I messed up (ROYALLY) I went into recovery and installed the freshEVO ROM from .zip and it installed but was stuck on the HTCEVO 4G screen, I waited like 15+min see if the install was slow, then I rebooted (took out battery) and cleared cache just did everything I think I could do to remove and now my phone is like bleh :[
Help please and thanks.

Rename the zip file PC36IMG and put it on the root of your sdcard and then boot into the bootloader and accept the update.

I agree with riley you have clockwork no need to go back to square one. I had the same problem with fresh ROM. Get Sprint lovers its simple to use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153 and like every thing else put it on the root of you're SD card (or out side of the folders).

Older EVO 4G HBOOT 2.10.0001

This phone was rooted already, then today I returned it to stock since the cyanogen7 that was on there did not... somehow... have the menu option to "update profile" I needed to change my phone number. I wanted to re-root, but I'm having trouble where to begin.
In the Power+Vol Down boot screen, it shows S-OFF, and HBOOT 2.10.0001
I cant make Revolutionary work because 2.15 is the lowest HBOOT it accepts.
If I choose the "recovery" option in that list, I get a black screen with a red triangle/exclamation point icon over an icon of the phone. I have to take the battery out to get the phone back on.
The phone does work, btw. But I miss the stuff I get when it's rooted. Anyway... what do I do now? How do I get the recovery/cyanogen7 on there if I cant get superuser permissions?
I used some other method back when I rooted this phone, but I haven't seen anything yet to spark my memory of the steps.
U are already s-off. No need for revolutionary. Go to dev thread and look for amon_ra recovery. Download it and follow directions to flash it. Then download whatever rom u want and flash that. The red triangle just means you have no recovery.
Support TrevE !!
I thought Revolutionary was how I got the custom recovery on the phone, which I need before I can root? I;d like to put CWM on there, since I have a paid version of Rom Manager already, and I believe they work together well.

Okay, I did the Bootloader/PC36IMG.zip thing, and then I loaded the cyanogen7.1 zip and applied it. I got a load screen loop one time, but after taking out the battery and booting again, it loaded into cyanogen. I dont see the Market in the menu tho...
Rom Manager is installed though, but to do anything it wants to install CWM. So do I let it? I need the market, obviously. If Rom Manager is to be avoided, what replaces it? I liked how everything was in one place, with auto backup's and recovery of the phone, etc...

Okay, that's in process. But the question remains, should I uninstall Rom Manager or can I use it? If I shouldn't use it, is there anything that replaces it? How would I go about backing up my phone and data? I've paid for Titanium a while ago, so I know I can use that to backup app's, but what about the phone itself?

You'll have to uninstall rom manager as you need CWM recovery. To back up, simply backup all your apps and data in tb, boot into recovery, select nandroid restore/backup, selecet backup, and you NEED the first 3 checked [boot, system, data]. Also if its your first, backup wimax as well, then copy it to your pc for safe keeping, in case you ever lost your wimax keys.
Figured I would ask here instead of opening a new thread...I have an evo running hboot 2.10 and 3.30 software that I would like to root. I've used unrevoked back in the day but its been so long. So I was thinking about upgrading and using revolutionary. Is there really any difference that would want me to re learn unrevoked, or just upgrade the h boot and software and use revo? any insight would be appreciated

There is no reason to "upgrade" to revolutionary. Unrevoked is the same thing as revo. Just unrevoked doesnt work with the newer hboots. If your already s-off in bootloader there is no difference. U can use any rom regardless if u used revo or unrevoked. The whole object of rooting is to get s-off. Once you have it there is nothing more you can do. Ive used both on unrevoked on my original evo. And revo on my newer refurb. There basically the same. Easy auto root pretty much.

please help...

evo 4g lte is fried, so i brought out an evo 4g out of retirement. must have popped in the wrong sd card (can't find the other one and have no idea what's on it regardless).
rebooted the bootloader and apparently flashed an unknown pcimg zip. now i have no idea what hboot or anything ese was attempted t be put on here. i was getting just the white htc evo 4g screen. then got it to eventually go to the light grayish screen w the big yellow 4G screen. now i'm getting either a blank black screen or a pop up that reads: Sorry! Process System is not responding.
and just now got it to go back to the big yellow 4G.
any ideas on what to do assuming i have nothing from when the phone was in operation? (in other words, i'm assuming the worst case scenario, like i have no nandroid backups, RUU, etc. at my fingertips.)
please help.
and now i'm at the lock screen which reads:
no service
correct time
correct date
and it will not move.

ok i would first suggest puting a pc36img.zip file of a recovery on your sdcard and then hopefully it flashes the recovery. If that works it will be simple after that.

alright, i was able to get the recovery installed.
considering i don't know what the hell was wrong w the phone, i'm not sure what's next. flash a ROM? if so, what's recommended? i was running meanbean on the LTE and i like that. at this point i just need to get the phone working and up to date on all sprint/htc firmware/ota's/etc.
again, thank you.
like i told someone yesterday, this is getting to be a pretty common request around here. here's an updated version of something i told someone else a few days before that:

Just download any sense ROM.
Try the latest rooted stock ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26516892
Basic steps:
Download it (either odex or deodex doesn't matter)
Check md5
Put it somewhere on your SD card that's easy to find (any directory will do, but you don't want to have to hunt around for it all day in recovery)
Make a nandroid (well, at least normally you would do this if your existing installation is something you would ever want to go back to)
Wipe everything *except* your SD card - DO NOT WIPE YOUR SD CARD without a backup
Flash the zip
Reboot
If it works, great; let it sit for awhile, then do whatever you have to do
If it doesn't work, nandroid back and ask for further assistance

First thing you need to do before installing a rom is partition your sd card to ext 3 or 4,install DT's apps2sd and then install a rom.Go here and read everything and follow the directions carefully, all the links to everything you need is in his thread, its like 2 or 3 pages. This will help you in the long run from running into more issues, trust me,i live by Hips thread.
^^^ I Love this guy!!
That's what i'll do. Ended up getting recovery installed, superwipe, rom and then (!!!?!!!)....bootloader loops. Grrr...
I flashed the only up-to-date rom i could find that didn't expressly mention partitioning the sd card - something new to me - and could hear that little geek in the back of my mind screaming at me that i needed to do so.
Thank god i have another back up evo. I'm not doing ISH to this one until i sort out the one that still charges. Stupid port malfunction...
on on....

well that didn't work. right back into bootloader loops.
i'll give it more attention in a few days, hopefully. the refurb LTE arrives maƱana...
