Desire as a PS3 Remote for DVDs/Blu-Rays? - Desire General

Hi there just wondered if anyone has come across an app that allows the Desire to mimic a PS3 bluetooth remote, just thinking it would mean one less remote cluttering up the sofa
Cheers
Ian

From what I've seen the only option at the moment is Pocket Blu however that sucks as it only works with Pocket Blu enabled Bluray discs. If you do find something I'd be most interested.

Hi,
You can try original "BD Remote for Android" from Sony I use it to control my blu ray BDV-F500 via WiFi.

Thanks RFX, but "BD Remote for Android" is not designed for PS3 acording to the app store but will give it a go tonight.
Cheers akirainblack, i will check it out

Datel Wii wireless retro controller: Info & Tests

Hi All,
I ordered a Datel Wii wireless retro controller from http://www.codejunkies.com/ and finally got it! Its decently made and if I can get the bugs worked out I would suggest it to others came to about 46 dollars with S&H.
Currently I have tested it out using both Wiimote Controller (by C.C.P.) and Wii Controller IME (by Ryan Frawkley). Both apps seem to sync with this model controller no problem and seem to hold the connection.
Below is a small comparison between the two (for all testing 1 was only installed at a given time)
Wiimote Controller (by C.C.P.)
- Syncs and holds the connection
- Need to have compatibility mode disabled in spare parts to work correctly in full screen mode
- Appears to be able to map both of the analog sticks and all other buttons on the controller
- Views the controller as a classic controller
- Update from Dev - pikipirs
WiimoteController supports what is known as PWM mode. This is not analog stick emulation as Nintendo64 expects, but is as close to it as possible. It works by quickly pressing and depressing emulated keys, something you would be doing for example if you played a racing game on a computer with directional keys and you wanted to turn the steering wheel just a little.
You can activate this mode by going to WiimoteController's Preferences->Advanced settings. You have control over each axis of all sticks (nunchuk's and both from the classic controller). If you want to for example activate PWM for the left classic controller stick, set "CC L-stick X-mode" and "CC L-stick Y-mode" to Analog.
A word of advice: analog sticks have dead spots at the neutral position and when in this position, WiimoteController will not emulate any keys, but it might if your classic controller's analog stick is too sensitive. If you touch the PWM-mode-enabled stick outside your emulators, you'll get a shower of letters, so try to avoid that. Also, when you are plugging your classic controller into the wiimote, don't touch any analog sticks on it because WiimoteController expects all sticks to be in the neutral position when it detects them.Side note from Jvward - I am a moron who after emailing both dev's I posted the response from pikipirs somehow got confused and posted in the section below, I have since updated it, Also special thanks to pikipirs for reading my post and keeping me on point
Wii Controller IME (by Ryan Frawkley)
- This controller is actually suggested as the only non Nintendo made controller by the dev.
- Some buttons don’t work (mainly both analog sticks are un-mappable)
- Because of the problems with both analogs I am unsure how this application views this controller (being as a wiimote or a wiimote with a classic controller)
- I have emailed the dev about the analog support and no response as of this point, I am going to email him again today.
Preperation
In any of the "oid" app's by yongzh
you need to make the following changes after properly sycning the Datel Wii wireless retro controller (or a wiimote) with either of the two applications listed above. (thanks Salpula for this info):
Input settings > Key Mappings - remap the keys as necessary
Then
Other settings > Use input Method > check off the box
FPse Controller Info:
Coming Soon!
Testing
I tested: SNESoid, Nesoid, GameBoid, N64oid, and Gmail using both applications and the controller.
With all of the applications both sync apps worked fine and generally speaking gave the same results, accept for N64.
If anyone remembers who ever made the original N64 controller was probably smoking something good when they designed it and due to this you need to take full advantage of all of the buttons on the Datel Wii wireless retro controller. Only one application was able to do this as of this point, being Wiimote Controller (by C.C.P.). Regardless of how it ran I was only able to play golden eye via Wiimote Controller (by C.C.P.) and not
Wii Controller IME (by Ryan Frawkley)
Conclusions
Datel Wii wireless retro controller is honestly a better controller to sync to any android device in my humble opinion as of this point then a standard wii mote. Most android users will be syncing controllers to their devices to play emulated games and while the wii mote accomplishes this its not great at it, and honestly kind of sucks for systems with alot of buttons on the controller (PS1 and N64). The only way to get around the button limitation as of this point that I know of is using Wiimote Controller (by C.C.P.) and Datel Wii wireless retro controller.
P.S. I would love a PS3 sync app but as of this point it does not exist
Did you set wiiremote ime as the keyboard input?
Hi,
Yep I did.
Alternately, if your Xoom is Rooted, try Rwiimote.
Its not but I guess I could. What's the advantage of rwiimote?

Not sure what the advantages are, I've only come across it recently, but I'd have thought worth a go to see whether it works.
I have mine working with all the emulators. Make sure you enable a
"Alternate control" or whatever.
Edit : the setting is actually "use input method"
Edit 2: i use wiimote controller by ccp

Some other users are reporting great success with this controller. Any updates? If not, wanna sell it to me
Bumped with new info
Just got my Datel and I'm at work so I've only tested it with SNESoid and N64oid but it's working well. I was using Rwiimote for the wiimote but the Datel doesn't seem to like this. Quickly downloaded Wiimote Controller and configured and was impressing my co-workers with Super Mario Kart. Lovely.
I wish the controller werent so expensive...and RARE, not even amazon has them, the hell. I'll probably stick with my wiimote/classic controller pro combo, at least for a month or so. Isnt onlive supposed to be releasing a controller for the ipad and android?
Ouch, $40? I paid$23 on ebay.

Amazon UK doesnt ship to the states, and after conversion and shipping it would end up being the same price or more

hi all,
I just bought a datel wireless retro controller and played for a while with FPse and GameBoid. I found that it is really hard to execute top-left, top-right, bottom left and bottom-right these 4 directions by using the control pad. Does anyone have the same experience?
I don't have much experience on game issues, so i don't know if that is normal or not. Thanks for help.

[Update: New guide for Shadowgun too] PS3 controllers + Galaxy S II (stock ROMs)

[Update]
New video now that I found the guide at Android central about how to use a PS3 controller with Shadowgun - and of course a guide
Hi everyone, thought this might interest a few others here:
Pairing is via the Sixaxis Controller app ($2 on the Market), and there is a guide on pairing here (I made one since the Sixaxis Controller's homepage guide is not very user friendly). Root is required.
Thanks dude.. now I can play flash games on it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Thanks, might have to give it a try.
Thanks for the info dude.
But I can't think on any game that I could use a sixaxis for...
Shadowgun? Emulators?
PS3 controllers can be used with Shadowgun now too (initially they don't work via bluetooth except for movement):
Can anyone confirm the analog sticks work AS analog sticks? My only gripe with some of these controller apps (bluezime, wiimotecontroller, sixaxis controller) is they currently lack any "true analog" stick support. I certainly can't blame the developers, as they're using the framework they've been given (which in gingerbread is ONLY mapping to keyboard keys), it's still a bit of a pain and something that keeps me from using these controllers as often as I'd like. Even Mario64 requires fine analog control, not the typical "all or nothing" that occurs, even while using the analog stick, as it is converted into digital as a keypress.
If this app "Shadowgun" actually operates as analog (you move the stick a little you tiptoe, move it a lot you run) then I'd love to try it. Otherwise I believe we'll have to wait for ICS for that feature (I believe honeycomb had true analog support as well).
I know the Phonejoy one works full analog, however it took a while for the apps / emulators to be able to recognize the analog inputs (working now).
Most of these require roms that do not support MHL however, meaning if you wanted to connect to your big screen TV and play, you cant. (unless it changed recently)
Also, many only support single player (Like the phonejoy) so you can either have several people playing on your phone screen or one person playing on a big screen.

[Q] MineCraft P.E.

I know there is already a thread for non-experia phones. I was wondering what kind of accessories would let you have a better experience. Could you hook up a mouse and keyboard? Six-axis Controller?
Currently tried the six axis controller and did not have any luck. Has anyone else had different luck?

I don't think you can do, they updated the controls with another scheme with another update not too long ago so perhaps adding controller support isn't at the top of their list
I love Minecraft, but hate the Pocket Edition, it's terrible, even with survival mode ha ha, it's not that much better on the Xbox either, PC - in this instance - is king

[Q] TV Guide/IR Blaster

Hey all,
I've been using CM for a while, but I always have a lingering regret of going back to stock for the sole purpose of having the TV app. The greatest thing about it was it had a simple TV favourite interface with remote controls and access to other media systems.
Has anyone discovered any apps similar to this? Meaning to take advantage of the IR blaster for the one and have a nice interface with cable TV.

I use the Highly Customizable remote (IR Blaster) called "smart remote" I'ts a little pricey but I believe its well worth it, you can set up anything and everything with it. I have my Denon receiver, BlueRay, Directv, Panasonic Viera TV, and my HD streaming box all connected to the app and if you set it up right you can usually turn all devices on with click of one button, including switching inputs on TV &/or receiver at the same time..here it is on the play market...https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy~~~~~it's made for the HTC One, Hope this helps you!!!

I am using Smart Remote. Also a little pricey but it controls everything I own and even things like HVAC units. Nice interface and easy to set up.

Shield ATV Accessories

Did you guys get any of the new accessories? The remote or the stand? What do you think? Both are pretty pricey...

I got the remote, it's on the thin side. Nice for private listening mode, but I'm not so sure it was worth the money, the controller and AndroidTV apps are handier.
Yeah I got the remote. I really like it, but wish it had just one more button - for getting "context" option in kodi. Would have saved the $50 if I'd bothered to read up on it properly before purchasing
Remote here as well, pricey but nice. My Panansonic Vera tv remote works as well, has the directional buttons, just no voice search.
It would be great if I can reuse the remote from my Sony Nsz-gs7 with this thing.

Wow ! It's great
Thank you sooooooo much.
So am I understanding the Sony Nsz-gs7 works fine as a remote? Does the trackpad work? I would guess not, unfortunately.
Yes, I got remote but other accessories are not available here.
Thinking about getting the shield but not too crazy about the $50 remote nor do i like using a game pad for tv. Can anyone suggest a good third party remote that will pair? I got some research to do (not even sure if it bt or wifi). I dont suppose fire tv remote would work? Or any of the several set top box ones i have lying around collecting dust...
If your TV does CEC over HDMI then you can just use that. Most TVs do support this. Works well with my Samsung Smart UHDTV (UN60JU6500), has forward/back/play/pause/arrow keys.
I got the remote in a bundle for around $325us. I am very happy I chose this bundle. The remote is awesome.

I got Samsung SE-506 external dvd/bluray drive (supports AV mode) and it connects to the shield and plays dvds just fine - I love this device!
I hope that kodi or any other apps will some day be able to play back blurays same way as they do playback dvds right now. A man can dream

Pretty much as a direction remote and keyboard. Can't get mic or track pad working. [emoji22]

i like the look of the remote, but also not too crazy about the price either, im currently using mine paired up with my logitech harmony touch.. and have a minix neo a2 air mouse plugged in too for use with certain apps.
learning above that theirs no button for context menu within kodi ill 100% be giving it a miss,
has anybody tried a fire tv remote?
What about the FLIRC universal IR receiver? You just have to configure it in a PC and should work with any remote. I use it with an Harmony remote but on a Windows PC not sure how it will work on android.

Does it need some modification to work,or it is just plug and play?
Camera support on shield ATV
You can also plug a USB camera on the shield and for instance start using a video calling application uniquely available for the Shield ATV. I am not aware of any other set-top-box or Android SmartTV that has camera support.
There is only one video calling app on google play that works perfectly on the Shield ATV called "Tellybean - Easy video calling".

Late reply, but FYI there is also an Android app to use any smartphone/tablet as remote. And voice search is then included :good: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote
Or you can use any universal IR remote...

Hi Sectune,
how did you do that? I'm really frustrated, because nearly nothing happend when i tried it.
Only the blue light of the drive flashs every approx. 5 seconds. The drive didn't spin up. I even can't open the drive when it's connected to the shield. Annoying.
So I'm really interested in how you managed it to work.
is there a better controller out there that's 100% compatible? The standard Shield controller is rubbish, IMO.
