[Q] Alternative back cover anyone? - Vibrant Accessories

I don't really like both stock back covers that came with the phone.
I'd much rather have aluminum or rubberized back cover.
I'm not talking about shells that are dime a dozen but actual back (some call it battery) cover.
Anyone came across such a thing?

I'm waiting for something like this as well, I generally don't like using cases, but either I've gotten way more clumsy (possibility) or this phone is extra slippery. A rubber coated back cover would be perfect.

I would like one but i use the case to cover the fake chrome.

Replacement Back Covers?

I've tried browsing a few pages in, and either I'm stupid and just missed it (very possible ), or there hasn't been a thread about just back covers themselves.
I'm curious to know if there are any replacement back covers for the phone that aren't just plastic. I was hoping to see if there was a more rubbery back cover I can slap on, or (and this may be out there) a brushed aluminum-type of back cover, like the ones found on the HD2 and Nexus One. Personally a black brushed aluminum back cover would be so nice...
I ask because I've tried the gel case from Tmobile and saw one of my coworkers' hard case protector, and I didn't like either of them. I ultimately want to avoid a case alltogether and just find a nice back cover that has a better feel to it, and possibly add just a tad bit more weight to the phone so it feels better while holding it. The cheap plastic back cover just isn't doing it for me.
Thanks, and apologies in advance if I blatantly missed this being discussed elsewhere.
I'm sure soon enough these back covers will pop up like mushroom on ebay, but nothing on the horizon at the moment.
There's a DIY thread for painting the extra back cover with rubber coat that looks pretty decent.

Lots of folks here have the mesh case that IMO the best looking with just the right thickness for the Galaxy S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730699
I just got something similar to the mesh cover.

While it's not really a back cover, it's got a bit of a rubbery feel and very low profile compared to gel cases and "full" plastic covers.

Help me find the perfect case

I need some help finding the perfect case.
I want a case that is tight fitting not loose. I'm looking for a case that comes off easily so I can swap batteries and charge with my dock. I want it to be a full case not just the snap on ones that just cover the back. I dont want a strictly silicone case since they dont slide out of a leather holster easily and they are loose.
What I have tried.
1) Seidio Active- It was easy to take off but it discolors way to easily and doesnt slide out of the pocket well.
2) Body glove case- I like this case but it doesnt come apart easily.
3) Cheap ebay case- Discolored easily and doesnt come apart easily.
What im considering.
1) Seidio Innocase II- Im not sure how slick this case is and how easily it will slide out of a leather holster. I like that it will come apart easily so I can swap my battery and charge in my dock
2) Otterbox Commuter- Does this come off easily? Will this slide out of a holster easily?
3) Case Mate tough case- Does this come off easily? Will this slide out of a holster easily?
Im looking for suggestions so PLEASE help me out.
Try reading some reviews at www.goodandevo.net ... Jenn over there (same person who runs Pocketables) has reviewed quite a few of those items.

Have you tried the one made by HTC yet? It is a rubber case which comes off easily and it DOES fit with a holster, it is much easier to take out of the pocket since it is not that sticky rubber that pulls your pockets inside out when you pull it out. It's got a really smooth feel to it, quite nice , I got it like a month ago and it is working beautifully for me
Which case is the htc case? Can you post a link please?
What about the 'Barely There' cases by Case Mate? Anyone have experience with one of these?
LINK
I do not want a clip on case like that. I want one that wraps around the front edge of the phone all around the screen
I have both a red and a black innocase II and i think that it does indeed seem to fit your requirements for a case. The reason why i mentioned that i have two different colors is that i did manage to break the black one, but that was because i crushed it while the case was off of the device, when its on the phone everything is solid.
The black one is about the same slickness as the stock back battery cover, while the red one for whatever reason is a bit grippier than the black one. I don't have a holster to test but it seems like it wouldn't be too much trouble to slide it in and out of one, i can pull it out of my jeans pocket without difficulty for sure though.

Always wear a rubber...

Or you could end up like me...
I was bringing my phone over to me from reaching over to get it from my back pocket, and a little slip happened and I ended up semi-tossing the phone on the ground. It was the one time I had taken the case off and well, you play with fire, you get burned.
I was wondering where it would be best to buy a hardcase for my new EVO (thank god for phone insurance), as well as screen protectors, and a charging cable (my other one has been subjected to lots of wear and tear and I have to bend it into mindboggling directions to get the phone to charge).
I'm try to go for at least bulk as possible but I still want some decent protection, any recommendations?
I bought the innocase rugged from Seido it has 180 degrww clip and a little bulky but great protection.
otterbox, ballistic and trident all seem to be the top cases for evo's.
personally, i currently recommend the trident cyclops.
sorry about your phone man.
I have had my phone since the IO conference... I haven't put anything on it... still haven't broken it
Jacka Slim Leather Cover?
I'm very happy with my Jacka slim leather cover.
Low profile slips easily in & out of my pocket & the front cover protects the screen.

I really like that case, where did you get it? I can only find it on ebay from a couple chinese sellers.
I personally went with a smoke colored tpu case from Luxmo. It serves hard case protection with a mix of gel case and almost not there feeling.

I like the naztech vertex cover its cheap and protects well plus comes with a screen protector. the design is similar to the case mate that has the abs over silicon

That's where I first spotted it but I ended up buying at Carry Mobile.

I'm guessing it's the same people as it shipped from Hong Kong, took almost 3 weeks.
I Have the Seidio Innocase II and holster. Just got my wife the active limited edition. One thing to watch out for with the holster is your side brushing up against something and unlatching the phone.(like your seat belt latch) Because of this, my evo took a three foot fall a few days ago. It landed on the corner and cartwheeled down my driveway. The only damage was a few scuffs on the case. This is my fourth phone with the seidio cases on them. I used to be a field service technician and I was really hard on my phones. Every phone I have had has taken several falls to concrete, dirt and rocks. I even cracked the seidio case that I had on my tour. I figured the case did its job and bought a new one. I know a lot of people like the otterbox and other cases, but I really like the seidio holster set up. Im thinking about stepping up to the extended rugged case if I get the extended battery. Don't like the idea of losing the kickstand though.

catseyenu,
how does the flip cover on the Jacka model stay shut? I see a little lip on top that acts as a fastener. Does it work well? If the phone were to fall out of my hands, I would want the flap to stay shut.

The leather is encasing a thin rigid (plastic?) frame that adds tension to the clasp.
I've had it about a month and it's worked well so far, the only concern I have is if the leather bands at the bottom stretch out it could become loose.
If that occurs I know a good boot maker that can fix it for me.

Chrome Bezel-covering cases?

i know the TPU case with the plastic back covers it and the plastic hard snap-on cases cover it
from what i've seen these are the only cases that wrap around enough to completely cover the bezel, but maybe you guys would know of other that do, preferable tpu. i switch out batteries all the time so the snap on cases arent the best since they are tough to remove.
thanks
TPU?
You didn't really ask a question...
semantics...... im looking for a case that covers the chrome-bezel, for those who didnt understand the topic
anywho...tpu is that high grade plastic that feels rubbery, like the argyle cases daydeal sells
Otterbox commuter case does. Best case i have bought for a phone, feels great in the hand and looks very good. Wont ever go without it

How much bigger does the Otterbox case make the phone? The other Otterboxes I've seen (for other devices) were a significant addition to the thickness.
Otterboxes and cyclops cases make the phone feel FAT. REALLY fat....it completely kills a device that was designed to be thin. Personally, I'd recoomend you this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772826
Covers the bezel, does not make the phone look fat. Looks great from the back also. Rubbery only on the sides. Don't get the new edition as it's a poor fit, get the old edition which doesn't have cutouts for the buttons. Then, if you have problems with the power button, put a little piece of paper on it and it will feel great to press.
Also, the case makes the phone nearly indestructable. I've dropped it 7ft on concrete. Case got a concrete scratch....phone was perfect.
Thanks for the suggestion! I was considering either that one or the one mentioned in the second post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098214
I just don't want anything that's too big and fat (don't need my phone to look like me. LOL)
That one from the post is nice except it doesn't cover the bezel on the top and bottom. That's pretty major for me, otherwise it's a great case. Similar to the mesh ones. The one I linked you covers everything and is thin.
i had that one, but the glue started coming off where the plastic is attached to the rubber. i would like one thats all rubber because the plastic back is slippery, there doesn't seem to be any other option though to cover that bezel
superglue. I did it to mine and hasn't moved since.

Extended Battery cases

Just thought I would throw this out there for the people that are asking
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Incr...5C/ref=sr_1_95?ie=UTF8&qid=1328665651&sr=8-95
If any one actually buys these remember to throw out a friendly review.
I tried that one out... it's okay. Currently rocking the one made by MoreTalkTime... which is not bad either.
Anyone try to do a cutout? I bought a tpu case and failed big time at cutting out the back. Arts and crafts are not for me I guess.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I'm trying this at the moment. Though, currently attempting to cut through the last layer of my ballistic case. Call me crazy, I was bored. It doesn't seem to be turning out too bad. The last picture shows the cut out square blocks which give an idea of what I will glue together and try to attach onto the hard piece of ballistic case using strong rubbery glue over super glued plastic side walls. Who knows, if it fails I will just buy a replacement case and cover.
I have done a cut out on a silacone case before with...well lack luster results. It basically looked like extra padded bumper.
After a few days, i am pretty happy with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00669H7Z0/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
not a perfect fit if you use the HTC extended battery... but it fits well enough.
I'm not 100% satisfied, but only because I wanted a case that was extremely snug. This is not that case... but it fits w/ extended battery. Hard to really argue against it for 8 bucks too.
I'm tempted to just get this: http://shop.htcpedia.com/incredible-2-extended-battery-cases.html
but I dunno... i'm sure those are just TPU cases that someone else cut out by hand... more or less doing what I wish i could do with an xacto knife.
Making the Moretalktime case snug...
I have the HTC extended battery/back and purchased the moretalktime case.
Also was a little loose and just didn't feel as snug as I'd hoped, especially for a tpu case.
Simple solution though. Find a piece of material that's about 1mm thick and cut out a rectangle to insert inside the moretalktime case before sliding the phone in.
For me I used an old leather wallet I had laying around and cut out a rectangle to fit so it's not visible from any of the moretalktime case cutouts.
This gives a perfect snug fit all the way around and makes the case perfect for use with the HTC extended battery/back.
Just thought I'd share.....haven't found any other combo out there like this.
That's an interesting idea... a piece of leather just to pad it a bit.
It figures that we would have to add something in order to make the case feel sung.
