PPTP VPN and browsing - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Just got my Desire, its a wonderful phone.
But, when i connect to my office, via vpn, browser refuses to connect to any web server, local or remote.
All other services like youtube and facebook work fine, and i can see the traffic on my router, but can not browse normally.
I have tried adding the dns server to the vpn connection, but did not help much.
Anyone else experiences this problem ?
Android ver is 2.2, updated yesterday.

Bumping this in case someone came up with a quick fix. The bug is well documented on Google code.
There is no spoon, only Desire.

I'm having the exact same issue. Bumping in the hopes that someone has figured something out.

[Q] Why does the VPN suck in Android?

Does anyone know of a ROM in which the PPTP VPN actually works? I've tried 6 or 7 different roms today and have yet to find one that works. Is this a Google issue, or something else? Surely some developer must have tested this function and can speak to whether or not the VPN works. I recall that in WINMO only a few roms had reliable VPN functionally, Mighty Mike and Silence come to mind. Just to be clear...here is what is generally happening; the VPN connects without a problem. The RAS server displays the connection and shows packets in and out. Some roms will not route one packet properly to the device. Others will appear to work great, pinging remote resources, but as soon as you try to do anything else, i.e. RDP, the connection crashes.
Thanks

[Q] Strange Wifi Problem after Simcard change

Hello folks,
since yesterday i have a strange Wifi Problem:
I'm running a WPA2 Wifi which runs perfectly till yesterday.
I was using it with the
desire for more then 2 weeks now.
I see myself "online" with the small Wifi Icon with full power wifi, i can ping and connect to other pc's and macs on my network but if i want to get to the outside behind my router, everything is dead.
I can see the connection request for google in my router for the desire, also i can see that the access is granted, but i get no answer. The router was not changed.
First i thought of a DNS Problem and pinged www google com (removed the dots because i am a new user) from a terminal.
No answer. I pinged the ip of www google com (removed the dots because i am a new user), still no answer.
On my PCs this worked.
i can ping anything in my network, even the router so this should not the problem, but when it gets outside the router no response.
I have searched the xda up and down and did't find something which could met my criteria.
I'm using Pays Rom 1.3 if someone want to ask.
I'm on static ip addresses and yes the desire and the router are on the same network and netmask
What did i change yesterday?
I switched to a new Simcard from the same provider. Had to type the login data for google and everything worked, i thought. Till i tried Wifi today.
If i use Edge there is no connection problem, but if i am at home i want to use wifi.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!
Greetings da_druck
Problem Solved!
I tried different things like removing the wlan on my phone and adding it back up.
Adding a different dns-server, restarting the phone, etc.
This all doesn't solved the problem, and i thought it could be no problem with the router, as all the other pc's could connect to the net.
BUT i thought i should try to reboot the router itself, just to test everything and what shoud i say: Its working again. So it was no android problem.
Maybe the router was a bit upset for running for more then 6 weeks without reboot, i don't know. So this can be closed
Greetings

[Q] Android VPN

First of all, I would like to thank all the developers on the site for some outstanding work. I have been trying out some of the great ROM's found here and I would just like to thank all you guys for all the hard work put into your Rom's. I am really appreciative of all the great information found here.
I have an issue I have been working on for a bit, and I was wondering if I can get some of you to comment or try to figure this one out.
At my office, we have a RV-120w Cisco firewall/router. We have a small office, and this unit has worked great in securing my server, but allowing some of my Project Manager's to remote in via IPsec. The remote VPN works great from desktop to router. We connect to the router, and then RD to the workstation.
The issue I have, is I cannot get an Android device to connect via IPsec. I can see the unit talking to the router (from the log), but the connection times out stating "Could not find a configuration".
I have tried the Cisco boards and have gotten no where. If any of you have an idea I could try, I would greatly appreacite it.
Hey,
are you making sure everything is registered right on both sides? & it might be a rom glitch to. Try flashing a differnt rom making sure you have all the right info and try again. and If that doesnt do it Idk man Im sorry :/
Stevo
L2PT only with IPsec is supported.
So you should be running IPsec and L2PT with the VPN. Probably should look into the OpenVPN installers for the android phones (i can help with that).
But my experience is that our android phones are finicky with the protocols you use.
Cisco again........
I regualrly visit forums and blogs for some VPN news, what i see the most are people having issues with vpn settings in general and specially cisco, cisco vpn routers have been rocket science to learn and use efficiently,

Wi-Fi authentication - not working on GoGo in flight Wi-Fi service

OK, so I've got a VERY strange one for y'all.
First off, I had this problem on Nougat. That's what prompted me to follow instruction on here and upgrade to Oreo and try. Yeah, that failed too.
So right now I have no problems at all connecting to any Wi-Fi router at home, my friends, in-laws, etc. Even when we go to restaurants and connect, like Bob Evans, Denny's, etc. where it asks you to accept the terms of service.. no problems.. at all!!
The problem I have is on the plane. I fly 4-6 planes a week and the free Wi-Fi I have with T-Mobile has been a godsend in keeping up with work while in the air. Obviously, it's happening on every plane I fly. I can connect to the SSID, but do not get an IP address. I even bothered the guy sitting next to me once to disable his iPhone and let me connect using the IP addressing that his phone had to try. Nothing. I can ping the gateway, but not the DNS server. SO I resolved the URL for the login page to an IP and threw that in Chrome to try to pull it up. Still nothing. It's so infuriating!! I can open plenty of apps that shows the IP address that whatever router I'm connected to gives me, but for some reason I do not get one when connecting to GoGo. I've tried a different browser (firefox, opera and the Samsung browser). I've tried an incognito window to remove and possible cashed issues. I've tried forcing Google's DNS and OpenDNS, still nothing.
So, the next step.. try a different phone. Yup, works great. It's not an account issue. It's almost like my MAC address is blocked by all the routers on every plane?! That can't be. I carry this Moto Z2 Force and also my iPhone. Problem is, I wanted to try to connect my laptop via Bluetooth to my Z2 Force once it's connected to the GoGo Wi-Fi to get my laptop online, but I can't even get an IP to be able to connect to the router. You can't do that with an iPhone. If you can... a penny for your thoughts
What's worse, is I've contacted GoGo Wi-Fi's tech support chat. They are determined to tell me there's something wrong with the phone.
Can someone please help me figure this out? I used to work in an IT department for the state government, and I should be able to keep up with whatever you ask.
Thanks a TON in advance!!
Some specifics:
Moto Z2 Force (T-Mobile)
Rooted with Magisk (but had the issue when it was bone stock on Nougat)
Android 8.0.0
Baseband M8998TMO_20207.117.02.41R NUS
Kernel 4.4.78-perf-g6174029
Build OCX27
SSID of the affected network - gogoinflight
I'm flying 3 hops tomorrow and I can get you as much detail as you'd like, I just need to know what.
nothing!?

L2TP VPN Doesn't work on native MIUI 11.0.3

Hello everyone,
as noted in the title of this thread, I cannot connect to L2TP/IPSec VPN Server from my phone (Redmi Note 8 Pro, running MIUI 11.0.3 stock).
I've done extensive troubleshooting and appears that phone never even contacts the server. When i configure everything and toggle the VPN, it will try to connect but never does, and then times out.
I'm watching the logs on the server, nothing appears.
I'm watching tcpdump on the server, no packet is even received from phone.
I've connected to WiFi network from i which i know i can connect to VPN (for example from PC or my MikroTik router) and it cannot even connect from that network.
I've enabled packet sniffer on root MikroTik router to sniff the packets, filtering MAC address of my phone, and guess what... When i click on VPN, it doesn't even try to connect to VPN serever. VPN server IP address doesn't even appear on sniff.
I'm wondering why is this happening, is anyone else having issues with L2TP/IPSec VPN? How do i inform Xiaomi of this issue since I've placed couple of feedbacks back in the day, never received an answer and those issues still persists so i don't even thing they are reading the feedback that is sent to them from phone app.
Hoping to get to the bottom of this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Any chance you can try the OpenVPN app? I used to have an issue with my old phone where sometimes it would say connected but it wouldn't be. With the rn8pro, OpenVPN works every time.
Edit: try posting on the Mi forums for a better chance of a response from someone at Xiaomi

Might not just be Xiaomi....https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/issues/571
I would hate having two VPN servers installed at the same time. There are times when i want to connect my root mikrotik router to VPN server i question to forward all web traffic via VPN, unfortunately, OpenVPN support is very limited on MikroTik , there are new cipher suites missing and with new OpenVPN servers in place it's impossible to connect tik to OpenVPN.
I know however that OpenVPN app works great with android, but it's weird that native L2TP doesn't seem to be working at all.
I could fall back to PPTP maybe. Both Android and MikroTik works flawlessly with PPTP. But... It's PPTP..
Thanks, i will try posting to Xiaomi forums as well.
