[Q] wifi question - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

can i activate the "g" on my blue angel? its currently running on wm 6.1+manila by d-two..

G or gprs has nothing to do with wi-fi, your thread title is misleading.
you need to open the connection settings and set up your internet connection, according to the data, you receive from your carrier. usually, if you don't know, where to find those things, visit your carrier's website and search it for "gprs settings" or 3g settings or umts settings and you will find the information you need to set it up.
alternatively, have a look around the forum for the ADC.cab that is the program for Automatic Data Connection. it reads, what kind of sim card you have inserted and offers you corresponding carriers to choose from and configures the internet connection automatically, assuming that your carrier is listed.
but be aware of the fact, that because this has nothing to do with wi-fi, the internet is not free. you have to pay network fees to your provider, because you use a sim activated mobile internet connection, that is also pretty slow, because the blueangel only has GPRS and not edge, 3g or hsdpa.

hi chef tony thank you for your reply..and sorry for the confusion..im asking is about how to activate "g" on wifi because by default it only has 802.11b..is there any possibility?thanks again!

oh, i see. you were talking about wlan 802.11G. my answer was not very helpful then
unfortunately, it is impossible to unlock wlan G. just like sdhc cards, no one ever found a leak to create a driver. and even if there was a driver for that, you would only gain the ability to connect to wlan G networks, but there would be no speed improvement, the wi-fi on the BA is limited to 11Mbit

oh i see. thank you for your quick reply chef tony!

3G settings

I flash the jasjar's rom on the MDA Pro. but unfortunately, I have lost the ability of connecting to the internet through 3G/UMTS (the settings are gone).
Can someone post the settings of T-Mobile MDA PRO UK to connect to 3G network? (Normally automatically being chosen when there's no wifi around).
Anyone has the settings??
Called 150 and get their customer service.
The scary thing is.. the 40MB that I get on Web n Walk is only with the use of GPRS. Not 3G.
I repeat, GPRS not UMTS.
Back to the main question, who has the 3G settings?
I was advised to use the settings provided for WAP because "3G is expensive" (I quote from the guy who talked to me).

Enabling HSDPA

I am using Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool and would like to enable HSDPA. I am on t-mobile UK network and I believe that they offer HSDPA (as stated on 4winmobile) automatically to existing customers.
when I try to enable i get the following error message
"Unable to change HSDPA connection settings"
is there something else i need to do or am i simply not going to be able to get it?
thanks,
cojo
Surely to access HSPDA you need a 3g phone?
ah...that could be why, typical me...see the headline don't read the article!!
thanks

3G possible with Three Mobile PAYG?

I'm using their PAYG sim which gives a free 150mb allowance for 90 days, but am only ever able to connect via GPRS (my phone says I am roaming as well for some reason). Is anybody else using this sim and able to receive 3G?
yes indeed.
Three don;t have the 3G coverage of the other networks, and so they use Orange as a backup network when you are in an area that does not have any of their own transmitters. Seems you might be in such an area, which is why it says you are roaming cos you're actually on Orange!
Make sure you are not stuck in 2G only mode of course.....
dial *#*#4636#*#*
select phone information
slide down to the bottom, abnd make sure the first menu box is set to WCDMA preferred, and not GSM only.
Thanks for the information, thought this might be the case but wasn't sure. The phone was already set to WCDMA Preferred so I guess GPRS is the best I'm going to get from Three Mobile for the time being.
Thanks also for letting me know how to access the testing screens, lots of good info there!
no probs, here to help.....when i'm in a good mood and not at work of course

How to re-enable GPRS for HTC Twin1000 (T5399)?

Hi, guys,
I got a HTC T5399 which is said to be Twin 10000, this dual mode phone is on the China market, customized for China Telecom CDMA2000 network, although it also supports WCDMA at the same time according to its brochure.
My problem is that GPRS functionality is disabled deliberately by the manufacturer when I want to use it under WCDMA network with my UK O2 sim card. Of course the voice calls are fine under WCDMA as it's supposed to. When I attempted to establish a new Internet connection, the options of line types are only three types: cellular line, bluetooth and Hayes modem on com port, there is no option of GPRS cellular line available as normal WCDMA 3G phones do. I tried to set up the connection with cellular line anyway but failed to connect to the network.
After googling on the Internet without any progress, I finally have to come here for help, as this website is for the best WM experts in the world. If I can not get it solved with your guys help, I don't think it's possible to sort it out anywhere else.
Thank you very much in advance for your kind support!
Sorry, forgot to let you know, the above device OS is WM6.5, details are
Windows CE 5.2.21869 (Internal version 21869.5.0.82)
Desperately awaiting feedback.....
no solution???
sadly, no one knows?

Disable/Enable 3G/2G traffic when on different networks?

In Norway I live close to the border to Sweden. I have to roam in my area to a Norwegian Network, because my phone company only have their own network in the big cities here. Before I had an operator the had their own networks in my city.
So when I now roam with the other Norwegian network, I have to disable that "Disable network data when roaming". And sometimes I now get connected to the Swedish network and have to pay 20x times more pr MB.
Is there a way to disable 3G/2G on different networks of my choice?
Hope someone know of something that will help.
Sorry for my English.
Setting-wireless and network-mobile network-dataroming unchecked
Something like this cause mine is in dutch.
Like I said, I have to have it unched cous of my network today is not the default of my operator, so I'm romaing all the time when I use my phone. I want something that can read the operators name and then enable the 2G/3G data connection is it is one of the networks I've accepted. If it's not, then disable the connection.
Cant help you with your roamaing problem, Sorry. But maybe you should consider going back to your old network. If you have no signal at your home you may have the right to cancel your contract.
The clue is that I pay 20£(with use in Norway) until 1.1.2011 to use the phone(sms/mms, calls, MB) as much as I want for only 20£. After 1.1.2011 I'll pay 20£ for 500sms, 500 minutes and 500MB.
But that only works with the operator network and the one they rent(like I use). The one I rent belongs to Telenor, the biggest phone company, as they have the best signal too, I want to stick. But they suck at priceing, so I want to be with my new operator.
But why is it so hard to read the operator name with an app? Than then can enable/disable data connection?
My phone is Desire and it is rooted, running OpenDesire.
Sorry for misunderstanding the first time.
One option you could try is Tasker. I think it has the option to turn data off/on when connected to a certain cell tower. It's not the exact thing you asked for but i don't know any other options.
You have to program it yourself, but just download the app from there site (gives you a 7 day trial) and try it if you can make it work.
Cell Tower, is that the operators ID or the tower itselfe(a operator has many towers)?
