it's not meant to. Your phone has gone to sleep, so the screen has switched off.
You can override this, but you'll haemorrhage battery power unless you leave your phone connected to the mains.
Regards,
Dave

If you always charge your phone at night anyway then you can go to menu > settings > applications > development and tick the box to stay awake while charging.

The other option is to use an app that lets you set the screen time out to never. I use this and the night clock while not charging, yes it uses the battery up but I am not convinced about leaving it on change every night all night.
100% charge
after 6.5 hours
68% charge while in airplane mode and the night clock on
82% of that was Android and the other 18% was the screen.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the great tip. As a Noob to Android and to the Desire (as of last Thursday), the tips are fantastic.
I also have to say that I like this idea of a night clock because it was 1 feature from my Treo Pro that I liked. I like to be able to check the time on the Desire without having to wake it up all the time.
BTW, I have to say that after having my Desire for 3 days now, I have to say that I don't miss my Treo Pro or WinMo. I am totally in love with the Desire and Froyo 2.2 (which was shipped with my Desire).
Once again thanks for all the great tips.

Help Me Find Out Why My Phone Randomly Restarted - LeeDroid

I'm hoping someone can help please. I put Leedroid 2.4 on my phone and it's been flawless for a couple of days, apart from this morning it looks at if it randomly rebooted.
I haven't switched it off since sometime yesterday but System Monitor shows a boot time of 4:13 this morning. I was asleep and the phone was on the side unplugged.

Also my battery history goes a bit funny just after this time and the useage went up loads from it's usual 1 or 2ma when sleeping.
and voltage - the big drop at the end is when my alarm went off and I started using the phone
I've no idea how I'd start to find out what caused it to do it, can anyone help please? It obviously didn't do a full reboot as it didn't ask for my PIN unlock code this morning.
Cheers
It's done it again this morning at 3:30. Useage at -1ma for ages then after this time up to between -22 and -25.
Any ideas?
I've checked through everything in "SystemPanel" and nothing seems to be using the processor at any time.
Hi,
Sorry I could not help you out about your issue but will be happy if you can tell me the apps you use for monitoring your phone? Is it all from the "System Monitor" app you mention?
The top pic is SystemPanel which I think cost me a pound or two a while ago and the bottom is Battery Monitor Widget, which is free.

Thanks a lot. I hope your issue will be solved! Or maybe perform a full wipe and see if the problem persists?

Cheers, me too. It's not a major issue but it's one that could catch me out if it does it when my battery is low.

25 hours screen on with 7% brightness for reading

I'm using 155-2 cee stock rom.
This rom suits me for best battery life.
Normal 2g mobile standby is 2.4 hours per 1%.
setvsel 18-300 40-800 50-1000
And some system app deleted like most did.
(dlna,phone portal,media share kept)

The reading app is moon+ reader,
(205 232 207)RGB background with pure black font
7% screen brightness
no page flip effect
still with mobile standby(that's 10% battery drain,5% if using flight mode)
Reading time is about 8 hours, other time is just screen on.
This brightness with the color background is nice for bedtime reading even in thedaily time in the room ,not at window or with several lights above.
You can have a try.

I can't see those pics: "You don't have permission to access the requested object."
Honestly I don't know how much those figures will suit people that use their phone for anything else than just reading... Someone will call you during those 25 hours...
Where did you find the circle battery indicator in the status bar? I'd like to install this style in CM7.1, it is nicer and cleaner than the 2 stock ones (stock for CM7.1, I mean)

Phone waking up a lot overnight. How do I track down the culprit?

My phone is waking up quite a bit overnight while I'm sleeping. How do I find out what app or process is waking the phone up and keeping it awake?
In the attached screen shot, the phone was sitting, screen off, for about 8 or more hours but as you can see there are non trivial stretches of awake time.

For reference, I have gmail, google calendar, and google contacts set to sync; was signed into google talk; have an exchange server set to sync email and calendar once an hour; and beautiful widgets set to sync weather once an hour. All that said, those stretches if awake time seem longer than it would take to pull email or weather. Maybe I'm wrong on that though?
Thanks in advance for any help.
If you really, really want to be systematic about tracking down what is draining your battery or keeping the phone awake then I would go back to nearly an out-of-the-box state. Uninstall all your apps (if you're really hardcore then do a factory reset). See how it handles overnight unplugged in that pristine state. Then install your essential stuff that you listed in your post - exchange, gmail, calendar and see how that goes during night two. Night by night add just a few apps and watch for changes. That is just about the only way to definitively track down what configuration or app or combination of apps is causing you problems.

Seconded. Once running, that app will show a detailed list of what apps are causing wakelocks, and from there you can try to eliminate the one that's misbehaving.
I had a same "problem" tryed of course BetterBatteryStats but all the wake at night was caused by cernel proceses kworker/u:0...4 i have no idea what cause it. But recentley i installed Imoseyon's kernel 10 exp1 and now i have no such wake up's.
Hop it will help You, of course if there no real app causing troubles.

Battery Drain on Tab Pro

Hey! I am back again.....looks like I have a lot problems......anyway,
I have a Massive battery prob....
So I brought my device badk to firmware after a lot of abusing of my device......but then, this happened (i changed to a different rom to stop the same battery problem but it wasnt any good) its not wakelock, like when the device is locked, no battery is wasted but when the screen is turned on and i do light activities like google translate, youtube, it drains SUPER FAST! Like for watching a 10 min video on youtube, it took away 3% of battery! I have also enabled power saving, have kind of a decent brightness and the wifi sleep thingybis set to never keep on. So I really need help with that.

I've got all gestures and everything else I can think of off, I even disabled "Prevent accidental touches" yet it's still draining the battery fairly considerably
Any ideas?

If your phone is rooted, check your deep sleep time in a kernel manager like mtweaks or ex. If it doesn't go into deep sleep, there's probably a app preventing it. You can probably find it under the battery usage in your settings. If you can't find it try DS battery saver, if that resolves your issue, it's probably an app keeping your phone awake. It also could be the AoD thats keeping it awake, I only know about this problem in custom roms, and I don't encounter it on my phone on OneUI, but this could be an issue aswell.

Not rooted unfortunately, shame they limited access to app usage, I mean even Android battery status has more info
Deep sleep seeems to work, battery drain in the morning is fine, this is through the day
Bit of an update for anyone wanting to see actual app stats, "Accubatttery" still works fine
