[Q] Customer ID error (131) - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone help me please.
I have an O2 UK HTC Desire with an SLCD screen
Rooted with unrevoked 3, TRIED SEVERAL roms but now restored cack to original O2 ROM with Nandroid restore (2.1 update 1). I had updated to the latest radio, but have rolled back to 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08
I have created a gold card using the GoldCardTool. (got success message)
I am trying to flash
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
so that I get rid of that horrible O2 boot screen, but I keep getting the error 131: Customer ID error with the message to use the correct ROM
Can any please help ...

re-create your goldcard and try again.

I tried creating another gold card (with another micro sd) but i think might have messed it as it says cannot read CID
what can I do?

Try the manual way: http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/
GoldCard tool was made when I had a Hero, never fully tested on the Desire.

no luck as well with original method
getting cannot read message
Anymore suggestions?

Yeah, I get that too. As new HTC Desire on O2 (not sure which screen version) installing RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.
Goldcard created fine on formatted 2gb card, starts to send rom to phone then errors out. USB debugging mode on.

The error means you haven't created the goldcard correctly.

OK, I made a few mistakes (hey, it's one way to learn!)
1. Goldcard: I missed the fact the CID is returned at the top of the app and thought you had to pull it out of the debug log. So I copied CID instead of reversed CID. I sent the CID and received back the image which I patched and was told was successful even though the CID was wrong.
2. I read on androidforums that some people only had success when using their supplied with phone 4gb card, it was when I was recreating my goldcard with the 4gb sd card I discovered my error with the previous goldcard (issue 1 above)
3. Finally I flashed with an amoled rom, but thankfully quickly found an slcd rom and my desire is now updating to 2.2.
Bye bye O2 shackles, hello froyo!

Question- now that I have my unit back up and running with the gold card, how do I format the SD card for apps2SD and gaining more free RAM?

[Q] How to check your Gold Card

Hi,
I have created a gold card, and at first it was working fine, however I had to format it for all kind of reasons.
After the use as a normal SD card, I wanted to upgrade to a different Rom, so I had to create the gold card again. I did, but now it seems not to be working as it is intended. Using the RUU exe of HTC the program report Error 131 customer id. Looking in the different forums I conclude that the gold card is not recognized as gold card. I have rebuild it several times, even tried other gold images with different cards, so I recreated the cards all over again, but still no luck. Even tried to do it via different machines and SD readers, but no luck.
Is there a way to determine that the gold card is working properly, or to check it before you start upgrading to a different Rom?
Hope someone has an answer, or is triggered by my question to build a application to check the gold card.
Regards
Gerard
Hi there, I'm guessing you are rooted. I don't believe u need the goldcard to put a different Rom on yr device. I created mine before I rooted then when that all went well I took it out and put a bigger card in. I simply store Roms I like on the SD card and install them via fakeflash or download via Rom manager. I have flashed several times successfully without it

Hi there,
Yes my phone is rooted, but I was able to upgrade to 1.21 using RUU from HTC with the gold card coming from 1.19 vodafone. Now I want to go to 2.09 or to another ROM, and I am not able to do so, because of the Customer ID error 131. The official update OTA 2.09 is in a loop after downloading, so that is not working either.
I think I can upgrade using a gold card, however gold card creation is not working as explained in my first post.
Thx for your support, and hope to get answer to my first post.

[Q] Help ! debranding desire HD vodafone dont work :@ !

hi all,
I got a HTC Desire HD from vodafone with hboot 0.85.0018 and rom version 1.75.
I want to debrand this so i made a goldcard (tried with MMC1 and MMC2 as described everywhere). i used modaco's goldcard tool and when i loaded the goldcard img and pressed 'patch MMC' it says succesfully created goldcard.
So i putted the debranded zip on the sdcard. it loads the zip but then gives the error 'main version is older blablab'.
i think this is related to the goldcard right?
I made a goldcard like 5 times again and with another micro sd card but it all didnt work.
so now i cant debrand my desire HD
Please if someone can help me!!
thanks in advance!
Nick
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 doesnt work for you?
So I think Vodafone 1.75 is Android 2.2.1. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On top of the gold card you will also have to follow the procedure for downgrade to 1.32 (Android 2.2). Otherwise you won't be able to flash an older rom version over the existing software.
There is a guide to the downgrade procedure stickied in the development section.
Someone swyped my idea.

oops forgotten. i if course did that procedure too. but stil wont downngrade. its verry weird.
and yes its android 2.2.1
Are you using a low capacity sd card? Gold card won't work on sdhc, only sd. Use a 1 or 2 gb card.
Only other thing I could suggest is using a hex editor to insert the code manually, just to eliminate all possible errors.

yep i used to micro SD cards from 2gb.. and i insrted it manually too lol
Well im gonna try MMC1 on my 1 sd card and MMC2 on my other sd card in minutes and check if it works then .
So i just format as fat32 then make goldcard with MMC2.
Then put the zip on the SD card and insert it in my phone.
Then follow the downgrade process and check if it installs the zip right?
IT WORKS! it starts the update

[Q] Severe problems with downgrading my branded DHD.

Hey all, first post so I hope it's in the correct forum. Today I tried downgrading my Vodafone branded DHD, following the guide on the Cyanogen wiki, but I can't seem to get past rebooting the phone and making HBOOT flash PD98IMG.zip from the Goldcard. I successfully get temp root after 'adb shell', the push commands work fine, so do the chmod commands, just not the actual rebooting and downgrading part.
I'll happily go through my entire list of commands if necessary. I'm at a complete loss for why it didn't work.
Have you made a Goldcard yet?
Yes, a 1GB card, made sure it wasn't an SDHC. Tried it with MMC0 and MMC2.
Then try some SDHC card.
Tried that, MMC2. That card I did get the furthest with, instead of it cycling through the list of PD98IMG.*** I got a CID mismatch error. I can't get the card to even format anymore though, pretty sure it's KIA.
If your getting a CID mismatch then your goldcard didn't work, try using the one that came with the phone.
Surely that would render the card unusable for everyday use.

I had to make a Goldcard to debrand my Vodafone DHD.
I followed the instructions on this page:
http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/
I just bought a cheap 2gig SD card and it worked first time and i can use the SD card.
That's the exact same guide I followed to the letter, but it obviously didn't work.
On the card I'm trying it with now though, I don't even get far enough to get a CID error, I boot into the bootloader, and it cycles through the list of PD98IMG files, and returning me to the main bootloader screen.

All i can suggest is you try it again. Making sure you run the hex editor as admin. It's easy to get the physical and logical disks the wrong way around so be careful of that.
Nope, made sure I was admin, read only was disabled, and selected the physical disc, then double checked that I overwrote the correct offset range.
I'll try again with the card my phone came with. My only concern is that it came with an 8gb SDHC card, and I've been told those aren't suitable for use as a Goldcard.

I'm told it doesn't matter what the card capacity is. The larger ones are more expensive if you kill them though.
I just bought a cheapy 2gig one and it debranded first time.
I've double, triple and quadruple checked every single command I enter and every line of every guide I've used. I can quite happily get to the "reboot and follow the instructions in HBOOT to flash PD98IMG" part of the guide, my phone just decides it doesn't want to do that. No CID errors, it just flat out refuses to acknowledge PD98IMG. All I get are "No image!" and "No image or wrong image!" errors, cycling through the entire list of PD98IMG files.
I've tried 3 different SD cards, even the one the phone came with originally, and I still get the same result. It simply will not flash PD98IMG.
Edit: I've successfully rooted my phone after taking the plunge and using my 8gb card. Goldcard worked a charm, and I'm now running CM7 with no problems. Thanks for all the help.

[Q] I get "CID incorrect message" can you help me?

I tried to downgrade my DHD to 1.3xxxx several times and the end result was always the same "CID incorrect". Can someone help me please I really need to root my DHD.

Troubleshooting:
- "Main version is older"? You did not type everything correctly. Please try it again and see if any errors come up.
- "Error opening backup file"? You did not use "Charge only" -connection, or your SD card is faulty.
- "CID mismatch/CID incorrect"? Your device is branded. Just make a Goldcard, put the PD98IMG.zip to the card again and go to the bootloader.
- "Model ID incorrect"? Some Telus DHDs get this, just make a Goldcard.
- Zip will not load in bootloader? Format your SD card to FAT32, no quick format! You can also try another SD.
- Problems while making Goldcard? See this post.
- PD98IMG.zip md5sum is: C3D244A9F056E48EE3851A14FF52204C

After creating the Goldcard with ur new card, did u put the PD98IMG.zip file in the card itself?
Finally it worked after trying soooo many guides and videos I used this simple direct one http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/ and it worked. But to be frank with you it looks like the issue is the SD card itself, not all SD card accepts the Goldcard process. My last attempt after trying 4 different cards I pulled my camera card and I said this is the last trial and it worked although it is SanDisk same I tried with 3 before and I even tried Toshiba brand. Any ways thank you all you are the best to help now I moving to next step S-Off

[Q] downgrading - either get CID incorrect or "no image or wrong image!" problem
OK. I have tried everything I can possibly find and I can't for the life of me get my new HTC Desire HD downgraded.
Yes, it is actually a Desire HD this time... (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=927338 for a few lolz)
I have an Orange HTC Desire HD with firmware version 1.84.61.2. My first attempts to downgrade failed after checking the PD98IMG.zip with the "CID incorrect!" error. I find out from the guide that this is a known problem and probably due to my phone being a branded model, and that I'll need to make a Goldcard. Fair enough.
I'm using this guide to help me (as I'm using Linux rather than Windows) - http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
I've tried two different cards, tried both the mmc0 and mmc2 hex codes given by the Goldcard Helper, formatting as FAT32 using Gparted (as the phone seems to default to FAT16), and still I keep getting "CID incorrect" and a cheery message telling me my update failed.
Some information which may help others: I kept getting the "No image!" error when my SD card was formatted using FAT16. I think the Desire HD formats smaller SD cards to FAT16 by default. Formatting to FAT32 actually got the bootloader to find the PD98IMG.zip image, but still wouldn't get past the CID checks.
So, my questions are as follows:
1) Am I right in thinking that getting the "CID incorrect" means I'm making more progress than if I'm getting the "No image!" error?
2) Should I just plough ahead and try a few more SD cards?
3) Any more suggestions for avoiding this blasted "CID incorrect" error?
Thanks in advance!
another question on the same issue
Another thing:
4) If I get "CID incorrect" having gone through all the psneuter and misc_version shenanigans, do I need to factory reset and redo the psneuter and misc_version steps before I start again or can I just go straight into making the goldcard and flashing PD98IMG.zip?
ok, I've tried three microSD cards now - including a Kingston 2GB card, which loads of people here have said should work.
Still getting "CID incorrect".
This is so frustrating - the guide is so straightforward, and seems to work for so many people - why won't it work for me?
Most likely you did not reverse the CID properly. Give it to me, and I will reverse it for you.
You do not need to redo the misc_version and psneuter all the time. One time is enough.
Eureka!
Aha! I'm in!

Thanks, jkoljo, but it wasn't that.
It turns out that I wasn't writing the goldcard.img hex file to the right place. This was the piece of help I needed: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9975925&postcount=6
For what it's worth, here's what I did which helped:
Firstly, instead of using the phone to attach the SD card to the computer, I used an SD card adaptor (which came with the new - overpriced! - Kingston SD card I bought).
Then, using Gparted, I formatted the MicroSD card as FAT32.
Then I closed Gparted, made sure the card was unmounted, removed it from the computer, plugged it back in, and unmounted it again. This ceremony might have been completely unnecessary, but the important thing is to make sure the card is plugged in but not mounted.
The problem was that, following the original advice, I was writing to the partition and not the card itself. (I think this was the equivalent of getting the logical and physical disks mixed up in the Windows guide.)
So, in my case, instead of doing this:
Code:
sudo dd bs=512 if=~/Downloads/goldcard.img of=/dev/mmcblk0p1
I needed to do this:
Code:
sudo dd bs=512 if=~/Downloads/goldcard.img of=/dev/mmcblk0
Anyway, enough of that, my phone's finished downgrading - time to get on with the rest of the process!
I'm getting the same error.
My phone is not locked/branded.
PD98IMG.nbh
not found
PD98IMG.img
not found
PD98IMG.zip
Blue progress bar finishes
then it will validate the zip
Yellow/golden progress bar
The pops up the below error.
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press power to reboot.
Phone is Desire HD after the recent OTA update
Firmware downgrading to 1.32.405.6 from 1.84.720.3
What needs to be done next ?
Help suggestions please...
Gold card ?
Is there a good chance of bricking the thing if its not done correctly ?
Do I need to put the same PD98IMG.zip in the gold card ?
Yeah, make a goldcard, and put the zip file there. The chance of bricking is basically zero.
