Anyone having problems with RDP? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

PC monitors are completely disabled after RDP session. Can't even see BIOS or any of the boot sequence but I can still RDP..
I'm not 100% certain the problem is my RDP. It doesn't happen every time I use my RDP but every time it has happened it has always been shortly after using it.
The problem is I will log in to my home PC using xtralogic's RDP app. It's a great app, well worth the price in terms of functionality. When I finish the rdp session I go to wake my pc up and nothing.. the screen is black and stays that way even after rebooting. I can't even see the boot up so there is no way to navigate the BIOS
It has happened 3 times. The first time I remoted in and reinstalled the video drivers and the monitor came back on right after install was finished.
The second time I unplugged everything except power to the box and the monitor cable from the PC and rebooted and it came back on.
The third time I tried both of the above to no avail. Each I removed and re-seated my video card. I don't know exactly what fixed it but after reseating my video card again and rebooting a dozen times (trying various things each time) my monitor finally came back to life.
I know this is loose but it seems to be related to the RDP, Anyone else have similar experience?
[disclaimer]
I know this is not a PC forum. I know this is XDA and XDA is for PHONES and my post is 99% about my PC and 1 precarious percent about my phone but on the chance someone else has experienced this..
If you think this is OT or in the wrong thread and you want to throw some flames then please, make em good.. I have no idea how to backtrace.. /\

Oh yeah, I do have one other question on a different subject. Has anyone tried cyanogenmod yet?

[Q] Black screen of death?

Here is what happened on my month new Galaxy Nexus.
1. Listening to mp3 via Bluetooth headset
2. Playing a game
3. Standing up
4. On a train
Sound stopped working across everything, in the game and on the mp3. Tried killing the applications and reloading, the mp3 player refused to even start the mp3.
Rebooted the phone, well, I turned it off. It has never turned back on. Tried removing the battery, all that, nothing.
Got home, tried plugging in the USB into a PC. Nothing. Tried booting into recovery mode, nothing, other than the PC claiming to have found a new device.
I haven't plugged it into a PC in recovery mode before. I haven't even seen recovery mode on the Galaxy Nexus.
I was running OTA Vodafone UK 4.0.2 I hadn't even considered rooting it or anything.
Anyone know if this is salvageable or had the same happen to them?
Hi. If popping the battery does no good I'd get it replaced without any further investigation. Sounds like hardware fail, so long as you are sure you have not got it wet or caused any damage to it.

If you cant bring it back on after a battery pull then its a dead phone for sure
I had the same problem last month. An usb jig solved the problem.
USB Jig?
Any more details? Something you can point me at?
Cheers
Found this:

Appropriate?
So does the phone show anything at all? Does the screen come up for any amount of time? Can you get into bootloader?
So for completeness I have exactly this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384415
Basically this paragraph:
An item under "Other Devices" called "OMAP4440" keeps appearing and dissapearing all the time, with the little "!" mark next to it indicating that there is a driver error. The drivers for this phone are fully installed on this same PC, and it use to work fine before it went dead.

Sounds like a USB Jig might do it. But in this case its back to vodafone and jumping through those hoops.
For the record I hadn't done anything at all to the phone than a normal consumer would. i.e. no rooting, hacking, booting, fruiting or cheesing.
It just died.

One X Causes Mac to Freeze

I am having multiple issues. The big one is that sometimes when I plug in the phone to my Macbook Pro, it decides to hang the OS. But it's really weird. It's like only the mouse and keyboard hang. Music will keep playing normally, the clock in the menubar runs with no problems, and if I press the power button the "What do you want to do?" window still pops up, I just can't tell it anything. It forces me to hold down the power button for a hard restart. Here's the weird part: I can't narrow it down to what is causing it. I can't tell if it is the phone in Disk Mode or what. And it doesn't always do it. Heck, sometimes the phone won't even act like it's plugged into a computer so it won't even try to connect.
When I first got the phone it didn't do this, but a few weeks after installing DoubleTwist (the only thing I have installed for this phone) it started happening. Uninstalled DoubleTwist and it still does it.
Any help is super appreciated. I searched around and there are similar problems on other phones, but nothing as odd as this.
Thanks!

this happens to me on my macbook air when I plug in any kind of usb device. it starts working fine after a few seconds though. It doesnt bug me enough that i feel the need to find a solution right now but test if it happens with other usb devices.

I have had no other problems with any other devices. And for me, this doesn't go away if I wait for 30 seconds or so. I did find out a few minutes ago that if I unplug my phone, within 30 seconds my mouse begins to work again, but my keyboard still won't work. It seems as though if I press a few keys on my keyboard sometimes the mouse will lock up for another 30 seconds. Only a restart will make it all work normally.
gotcha. well in that case sorry I don't know
Ha it's cool. Hopefully somebody will know though!
have you written to apple to make sure it's ok to plug in an android phone to a mac?
are you on ICS or JB? if it's the later it could be the MTP connection that's been introduced
you have to let your mac and hox know that the lawsuit is over...

Hahahahaha, for some reason I don't know if that was ever an issue lol
I'm running 4.0.4 which from what I understand is still ICS. So it's probably good that I haven't attempted to upgrade just yet?
The main reason I even care right now is because I'm trying to jailbreak, but I'm having all sorts of issues. I figured I'd start with this one haha.
hahaah

When I plug in my iPhone I don't have this kind of problem
However, my iPhone also can't record audio anymore, and it's two years old. My HOX can and isn't :highfive:

I'll look up an SMB reset. Haven't heard of it. Still new to Android lol
However, I googled for a while and even went nuts on here looking for it, no one has this exact issue. The other similar issues only involve programs freezing. For me it seems like my keyboard and mouse freezing, while the computer keeps going. Sometimes I can't even get the two to talk to each other. And when I CAN get my HOX to connect without freezing up the keyboard and mouse, when I run the root through terminal it can't find the phone, in charging mode or in disk mode.
Your Mac is jealous

So, did an SMC reset (when I googled SMB reset, SMC came up instead). I thought it worked, but it didn't. My mouse would unfreeze, but my keyboard would still be jacked until I restarted. And if I pressed too many keys on the keyboard the mouse would freeze back up for another 30 seconds. I am too tired to think of what I could do right now haha. Throw suggestions (LOGICAL ONES!) and I'll try it out haha. I just want this dang thing to work so I can root! :silly:
This is clearly a Mac issue. Absolutely nothing to do with the hox whatsoever.
You said that you used to be able to plug the phone in without any issues, and the only reason you want to plug the phone in now is to root it (You said Jailbreak but I presume you meant root).
Why don't you try a factory reset on the HOX and see if it resolves the issue. If it does then you can root your phone and will be installing a new ROM anyway so it won't matter that you've done the factory reset. If it doesn't then it means something has changed on you MAC and I can't help you unless you install Windows
Have you tried another usb charge cable with your phone and macbook it could be the cable is damaged internally causing a short circuit and making the usb devices play up even internal like keyboard/trackpad? Just a guess as Ive experienced a broken cable disabling usb which then works fine after reboot.

factory reset of HOX won't solve an issue with computer. It seems that you USB port is screwing up or is screwed up. See if you can connect another android device the computer and repeat the issue again...if so your USB port is jacked...BTW, u are not using an external keyboard/ mouse, are u?
I'd take the computer back to the service centre and shown them the issue...
me too...seems like MTP is not going well on mac(

^^^^ Now THIS I haven't really thought of! And, actually I think it makes more sense than a software issue. I was having problems sometimes even getting the two to talk to each other unless I moved the cord a bit. I've dropped the phone from my nightstand a few times and it has landed on the cord, so I wouldn't be too surprised if either the cord is messed up or (God forbid) the port inside of the phone is messed up. Sometimes if I had the HOX in disk mode and moved the cord just a bit then it would suddenly eject and often freeze. I have another cable back home, so I'll grab it when I'm there tonight or tomorrow and see if I have the same issue!

Device can no longer see computers, need some help figuring things out.

Ok, first off I chose Sprint because I believe that Boost Mobile is on the sprint network, but my phone doesn't specifically say sprint on it or anything, so I had no clue which of these device boards to post into. This is the exact page I got it on, if that helps. [link deleted - paranoid forum rules] - I will post specs of the device in a minute.
Alright, the issue with my phone, is that after I used a car charger 2 months after I got my phone, it suddenly stopped being able to connect to ANY computer ever again. I suspected it was PDA net at first cause that was the newest change I had done to my phone. So, a few days later, I could find now way whatsoever to fix it, and had to factory reset. This fixed my phone just fine.
Two months later, I was fed up with having battery issues all the time, this phone drains battery faster than my laptop, and its battery is 3.8 years old! I got an external battery that holds 20,000 mAh/74 Wh (Practically the same as my laptop battery too. ) that is from the LimeFuel company. I know that before I used it, my phone worked with my laptop just fine. I don't plug my phone in to my laptop all that often, especially now that I have a battery to use with it. However, I download large files on my phone with 4G to put onto my laptop because my home net is crappy, so a week after, I noticed that my phone lost the ability to communicate with computers, again. I then realized, it had to be the connections. The first time it happened was when I used a car charger, the second time, an external battery. Each time, my phone suddenly inexplicably lost the ability to communicate with a computer ever again. It can only see devices as a power source, nothing more. There's no missing software or drivers, it just doesn't register as anything to my computer. Like a power toggle so it can't tell the computer "Hey, I'm a device that you can transfer data with".
One more note; The first time this happened, I had activated developer options but had them turned off. I mean that I used USB Debugging mode once and turned all of that off. The second time, I hadn't even unhid the option yet, unhid after my phone broke again to try and fix but nope.
I did research on trying to fix it, without factory reset because a factory reset is USELESS, if it's going to happen every single time I use anything but the wall to charge it, right?
There was a topic online claiming that there is a menu under "Storage" in the settings. There isn't. It was a big fat lie. Or Android devs deleted it.
There was another topic, claiming that USB settings would be under some wireless and networks area. Nope.
Now, I remember that when my device would connect to the computer, it would let me change it from MTP to PTP, but after this happened, nothing. It doesn't even pop up anymore, nor does it ask. There is no where in the phone that these options even exist at all. It's like Android devs deleted access to these options for no reason whatsoever.
Another bit in that topic mentioned ‘USB Mass Storage’, which also doesn't exist. Here's the topic with everything I tried, if I'm allowed to give links at all. If not, well not my fault. Topics used to try and diagnose and fix issues, but failed;

So. How do I get my phone to connect to computers again?
Why does it stop accepting data from computers after I use a car charger or an external battery pack?
Why would Google/Android devs choose to intentionally break your phone like this?

First off, after the factory reset and everything worked did you reinstall the pdanet?
Second, 20,000mah battery? Holy cow im jealous!
Forgive me if you have already tried these things but this is what i would do...
Did you reenable developer options and reenable adb debugging?
Did you uninstall and reinstall your phone drivers?
Is there an updated phone driver?
Have you tried a different usb cord?
Is there excess dirt or dust in usb charge port on your phone?
Does your usb charge port even work anymore or do you just charge external battery on wall?
Have you tried a different usb port on the computer?
Have you tried on another computer?
Have you tried updating computer drivers?
Have you enabled a fast charge tweak like on a kernel tweak app?
If none of these questions fix it then a workaround is downloading app called airdroid. You can wirelessly transfer files from phone to computer and back again without usb cord.
Let me know what worked please! Good luck!

1. No, I never touched PDA net again.
2. Too bad forum rules say I can't be friendly and give you the link to it.
3. Read the topic you quoted. I did, only after my phone broke again. Except it's not adb debugging, it's USB debugging. Doesn't work, because the phone can't communicate with a computer anymore.
4. 5. 11. Yes I reinstalled drivers and no there were no updates.
6. 7. Nothing's wrong with the cable. I did try with others.
8. What does that even mean? Yes my phone's port works. Nothing's wrong with any hardware.
9. 10. I've tried different ports and different computers.
12. Can't, phone isn't rooted.
13. I'm not using this. My phone is not there for Google/Android to tell me I'm not allowed to use my USB port ever again. I'm also not going to wait 4 hours for a 4 GB file to transfer via my router to my computer nor am I installing some app software to my computer just to have wireless transfer. This is not a work around. This is an "Oh well, it's broken, guess you can't ever use USB ports again for data access!"
note; I tried all of these (except 12/13) before I ever came here looking for help.
2. I will google it
3. I didnt realize toggle to turn on usb debugging didnt work sorry. I just know it needs to be on for the computer to see the phone. This seems to be an area of problem possibly.
8. Lol! What i meant was did the area where u insert charger function properly. Only reason i asked is because some of those batteries charge on wall unit made specifically to charge the battery only not with charge.
12. Doesnt require root for basic settings like changing governor usually. Only to overclock/undervolt, etc.
13. Great answer! But i meant as a temporary fix until someone more experienced with this issue helps you.
I also figured listing all those things would help other people see what you had and hadnt tried before asking you next time. Wish i couldve helped more. Good luck

2. amazon dot com /External-20000mAh-Limefuel-LP200X-Flashlight/dp/B00OHZVN5U/ - It let me charge my phone 7-8 times fully before it was empty. Automatically stops when your phone is full.
3. USB debugging doesn't need to be on in order for a phone to communicate with a computer. This is only if you want to debug apps or use other developer tools. File transfer works just fine without it.
8. I still don't understand what you mean. My phone is not broken in any way. Nor is my battery. My external battery charges off any USB input, my phone charges off any USB input. My phone just can't communicate data wise between devices anymore via USB.
12. Fast charge isn't going to fix my phone. Unless it disables data communication, then I need to turn it off. All "kernal tweak apps" appear to require root. The top 5 google searches shown this.
3. Wasnt sure. Ive always had it on
8. Some aftermarket batteries dont charge while in phone hooked up to charger. They come out of phone and into specialized charger for battery only not phone with it, so that it can charge the larger battery in a matter ofan hour or so is what i have been trying to say. But its obvious thats not the case for you now since i asked and clarified. If this was the case one might not know that the small usb port on their phone needed cleaning to make a good connection because they literally dont use it to charge their phone. They charge their phone with external battery charger. You see?
12. On my custom rom and on my trickstermod app it does say fast charge disables data communication and that you have to turn it off for computer to recognize phone again. This fast charge mode only works when connected to computer not wall charger it says
Wish i could be more help but im out of ideas. Good luck
Update to the current situation.
My phone is somehow, repaired. But I have no clue why. I did several things today, just screwing around while I backed up my stuff to the SD card. One of them could have fixed it, or my phone is magic and self repairs after a while. Lets list everything I can remember that I did.
1. I typed in *#9900# in my dialing app. Toggled an option called "Low battery dump" to "on".
2. I deleted a whole bunch of files, including hidden files on the internal storage. Probably screwed up my apps but, whatever, it works now.
3. I pulled the SD card out.
Shortly after all these things, I plugged it in for power, and it finally, got my computer to see it as an MTP device again. No clue which of these succeeded. I'm going to wait a small bit before I test the things that tend to break it.
The magic option, is because I tried to root, it broke, stuck in download mode with some error about firmware. For 4 hours it was stuck like this, I tried everything I could think of, which wasn't much, tried installing the ROM back too, after wasting 2 gigs of bandwidth downloading it only to get an error before it even started the install. Phone was still rebooting in download mode error screen. Left it sit there off for like a minute and it just turns it's self back on, flickers a few times and the logo pops up and the device pops on like nothing had ever happened to it. I'm so confused. :/ At least everything's back to normal. Now add a good confusion post icon below so I can click it and post. :|

Except, I don't have a fast charge option anywhere. I can't toggle fast charge. My phone is unrooted and locked and such. If plugging in a device like a battery or a car charger, toggles this option and the OS developers deleted access to toggle this option, it is an OS bug and a critical issue in the device that needs to be fixed. I don't know what fixed it, but I'm assuming it was the low battery dump, and that doesn't appear to have anything to do with fast charge and it was a hidden secret option in the system.

The way u said it i misunderstood i thought u did have it on. Its not an option on all roms though. Mine has it and i tried it and couldnt see files thru usb until i toggled it off so it was just an idea. I dont know the effects of the low battery dump off top of my head but i will remember that if i hear someone else with same problem. Glad its fixed now

Hardbricked Nexus 7 Deb (QHSUSB_DLOAD problem)

I've had my Nexus 7 for a while, and I actually recently got a Nexus 10 and handed off the 7 to my fiance, who was using it to browse tumblr and read fanfiction, and that's about it as far as I can tell. I do have it rooted and unlocked and running Paranoid Android Beta 4.6 (and has been for a very long time), however since I haven't messed with it in so long I couldn't tell you anything else about it (kernel, etc.)
Since I know she wouldn't have tried to do anything like update or anything like that, my guess is that the problem is stemming from the fact that she just lets it die a lot, then charges it. She charged it all night and it would not turn on so she had me look at it. I tried everything I could think of, holding power for various amounts of time, both alone and in combination with either of the volume buttons to try to access fastboot or just anything. I should mention I even followed Google's troubleshooting steps, which involved strange charging times, having it plugged into the PC for a spell, then unplugging and replugging and trying to power on. But the battery icon does not even show up. The screen just stays black.
I plugged it into my computer to see if anything would happen, and it showed up in Device Manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD, so I googled this problem and it seems to be some sort of hardbrick where the bootloader is corrupted, and some people have found solutions for other devices, mainly HTC devices, but there doesn't seem to be anything that particularly pertains to this device. If I hold down the power button while plugged into the PC it will intermittently "disconnect" and "reconnect" (Windows plays the sounds) and disappear and reappear in Device Manager.
I'd like to try to fix it if I can, but I'm not gonna send it in for repairs/replacement or anything like that. I'd rather just buy a brand new device at that point, but if anyone somehow has a solution, I'd gladly welcome it.
Thanks so much!

Soft Boot/Soft Lock When Driving

I've been having an issue since at least January. I was hoping either the Feb or March update would fix it, but it hasn't. My Pixel 2 XL has been acting strangely, but only when driving. When I drive, the device will either soft boot (states that PIN is required after restart, but opening terminal and checking uptime shows it hasn't physically booted) or soft lock (black screen that won't come on until hard booted). When it happens, my music will stop and my car's screen will go black. After a period of time, it'll ask me to reconnect the phone, either due to the device being encrypted until the PIN is entered after the soft boot or because it's simple no longer responding in the case of a soft lock. I've tried:
Removing the bluetooth connection for the car
Removing all known cars from Android Auto
Clearing cache
Uninstalling a few driving-specific apps
I was hoping maybe someone had an idea of anything to try besides a factory reset. I really hate reconfiguring my device from scratch (or even from TiBu backups).
I ended up trying multiple different kernels (Elixir and Evira) with the same results, so I broke down and did a factory reset. I reloaded apps and data from Titanium Backup. I'm no longer having the soft boot issue, but a different one instead. Now, randomly, my phone seems to disconnect from Bluetooth, audio it was playing plays through the phone speaker, and my car's display blanks out. I noticed my watch also shows that it has been disconnected from my phone. After a few moments, Android Auto returns to my car's display, but upon selecting anything (for instance, the music I had been listening to), it shows that the device is not compatible.
If I check the phone at this point, every app that had been running has been stopped. My notification bar is empty, and it usually has a few permanent notifications. The phone hasn't hard or soft booted, as it doesn't request the "PIN after restart". It just killed literally everything that was running. I have set both Android Auto and my music apps to not be battery optimized, as I assumed that might have been a problem, but with no better results. If I unplug and plug back in the USB cable, the phone operates normally. I haven't had any especially long trips to see if the issue occurs a second time. I'm lucky enough that my trips to work take 8-10 minutes.
Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions on things to try?
Well, your first post sounds a little similar to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/alert-using-adguard-private-dns-causes-t3896243 , Having tried dns.adguard.com private dns on my phone, that setting also survivied a factory reset. No idea about the second post. Shot in the dark.

It was similar, but I wasn't using Adguard. I had been using 1.1.1.1 for DNS, but when I stumbled on that post, I removed custom DNS settings without success. Thanks for the thought, though!
In all my years with Android, I haven't had such an infuriating issue. It's almost enough to make someone go to *gasp* iPhone! ... Not really.
For what it's worth, while you mention bluetooth audio and your watch disconnecting, of which I don't use either, I did have somewhat similar issues with Android Auto which it sounds like you also used as you mentioned plugging in. Sometimes AA was disconnecting, sometimes the phone not being recognised when plugged in. It's been a year so can't remember all the symptoms, but at the end of the day, it was the charging port that was malfunctioning, and which Google nicely replaced for me. This also caused adb and fastboot to be intermittent, and not see "devices" which also confirmed the charging/data port. Again, just another shot in the dark for you to consider.
Well, I went on vacation a few hundred miles away last week. On the way up, the phone freaked out repeatedly. I had my wife try to disable WiFi. Same issue. I had her try to disable Bluetooth. Same issue. Both disabled. Same issue. While at our resort, the phone freaked out a few times on the drive to breakfast (literally a 2 minute drive).
On the way back, I decided to disable Location services and revoke all Location permissions. I drove 50 miles with no problems. I had my wife enable Location and drove 30 miles. No problem. I had her tick on apps that I felt needed Location permission, one by one, every 10 miles. No problems at all. I ended up with all of the apps that I feel need Location turned on and haven't had a problem since. So something was choking on Location data, but unfortunately, I have no idea what app it was. I think it might have been Action Services, but I can't be sure. I'm just glad it's fixed, frankly.
I know this is an older post, but I wanted to get my "fix" posted, just in case someone else runs across a similar issue. At least they'd have something to try.
