Sprint? - Windows Phone 7 General

So we already have a thread on T-Mo. Anyone have any in's on the true story of Sprint phones? will we have anything on release day?
My contract expired back in may and I've been biding my time waiting to see WP7...really want to make sure it will be worth my wait, and that Sprint doesn't delay and has quality phones.

Highly doubt you will see any CDMA phones this year.
Just check FCC

Not to come accross as rude, but is this based on anything, or just guess work on your part?
We didn't know about some of the phones that are filling up the web today (based on FCC Info that was just released) a week ago, seems that the lack of information doesn't prove anything one way or another. If you your reply is more than a guess (and again, not trying to sound rude at all...i just want a Win Phone 7 toy as bad as everyone else), than I'd love to know the source of info, or even the fact that you can't give away the source.
There was the rumored "HTC Gold W" for Sprint...anything coming from that?

There's no reason to think that Sprint won't be carrying a WP7 device at launch, unlike Verizon.

From the things I've read GSM devices will get the 1st crack, and CDMA will come next year. It could just be the rumor-mill though.
I don't mind waiting though. I think I'll wait for Gen 2 or 3 devices. I'm hoping MS gets more chipset drivers coded, I'd like to see SnapDragon vs. Hummingbird vs. Tegra 2.

I wouldn't mind waiting if I wasn't in desperate need of a phone. In 4 months time, I'm on my second Vogue, and it now has a broken USB jack...seems to only charge when plugged into a pc usb port. This would be fine if i didn't have to rely on it for on-call pages overnight.
A lot of recent articles on the HTC Spark, and most claim it's supposed to have CDMA included, so we'll see.

Wanna bet?
No CDMA phones this year. To be honest I really don't know, but if T-MO gets a device first then Sprint won't get it until next year. Its been this way for some reason.

I think it's mostly just people talking out of their rear end. The Verizon rumors seem to have teeth but that shouldn't affect Sprint. It's not like a GSM phone will work on all the carriers worldwide anyways. They're pretty much always customized/modified and it really shouldn't be all that different for the OEMs to toss the CDMA radio chip in instead of the GSM chip.

What's been this way? Sprint got the Evo 4G. Verizon got the Incredible. The Touch Pro was available on Sprint first in the states.

TMO got WM, year later Sprint got WM.
TMO got Android, year later Sprint got Android.
TMO gets WP7, year later Sprint gets....

What do events from many, many years ago and different OSes have to do with this? T-Mo got Android before anyone else, worldwide. At this point, there's just as much likelihood for Sprint to get a WP7 device on launch day as T-Mo. Leading the pack seems to be AT&T but there's no reason the others won't as well.
You're just looking at past events and assuming there's a connection to current events. Look at the reasons behind those events and you'll see that they simply don't apply here.

All I know is that a WP7 phone on the Sprint network would be perfect since the advanced hardware can really take advantage of the 4G network

I really believe Sprint would not be stupid enough to not get a WP7 device the minute launch day comes for the US. I do believe GSM gets the first crack since Europe is getting WP7 a month before the US, but after that we already have leaks of HTC based _W phones (World Phones like the Touch Pro 2 for those that do not know) and I would really think Sprint wants to pad their 4G with a 4G WP7 device as soon as they can. A device that can really use the whole offering 4G has to offer. (With streaming Netflix, Intigrated Zune, and XBLive, as long as they do not gimp the phones like ATT does with the iPhone).
Why AT&T continues to get countless new phones is beyond me. They can't handle the iPhone data useage alone let alone all the Android + iPhone + future WP7 Traffic they are going to get.

Engadget said:
Our source says that the fallout from this troubled partnership is that Microsoft has backed away from Verizon as a Windows Phone 7 launch partner, claiming that the first handsets you see won't be offered on the CDMA carrier -- rather that we should expect GSM partners to get first crack.

Here's something from engadget that speaks of some "source"...It's all hearsay, but I can see that happening.

I refuse to believe that comment about Europe getting WP7 first statement. It wasn't really made in an official statement but sorta off the cuff by a senior exec who likely isn't intimately familiar with the launch. It would go against Microsoft's entire history, both recent and further back, of USA first. At most, Europe will get it at the same time which would be a big deal for Microsoft since they normally forget about the rest of the world.
At least I hope I'm right lol. The only reason I can think of is some sort of regulatory or carrier issues that would cause them to delay it here.

US is usually slower on Cell Technologies though, so it's perfectly plausible given the environment.

Not sure what you're really referring to exactly but how would that apply to a new OS made by an American company?

MS has teams all around the world.
We are behind in cell technologies, hell some people here think the iphone 4 is the first phone with video chat.
Where have all the leaks been coming from? Sure wasn't the US.
I hate it, but we are behind.

Yea, our networks are behind (and that's not really 100%, we have broader 4G deployment). But we're not behind on software. iPhone was launched here first as was Android. There's no reason that WP7 isn't launched here if not ahead of the rest, at least at the same time. MSFT doesn't even have the Zune store available abroad yet.

Iphone team is here in the US, so are all the iphone leaks.
The Android team is here in the US, Android was a company here in the US before being purchased by Google .
MS teams are all around the world. That's why if you ask a WP7 spoke person about specific parts of the OS, they don't have a clue. Or specific release dates, they don't have a clue.
We're at a point now to where we would have seen a CDMA leak, especially for Sprint.

Ummmm MS is 99% in the US. Next largest is a team in India but they mostly did the emulator if I'm not mistaken. If you don't get an answer from a spokesperson it's because they're not allowed to talk about it or they're not a developer or even a technical person so they really don't have any clue about it in general. They very well might not know the release dates because Microsoft doesn't want anything leaked. It's a "need to know" situation. The people that do know sure as hell aren't just going to run around telling people because they don't want to lose their job. Nothing you've said has anything to do with a CDMA device coming/not coming to Sprint at launch. It doesn't even qualify as circumstantial evidence.

AT&T might not actually be getting the TP2(fortress)?

Hey guys First post. and i wanted it to be good so here we go. I was looking around on some sites to see if there is any new word on the release date or anything, cause my phone is really outdated. So i stopped by Wmexperts.com and reading some HTC stuff, and came across an article(end) and it said that US Cellular shows rebates and stuff for the Touch Pro 2. Well, only 4 passed the FCC, and thats one sprint verizon tmobile and a ______. Well would this be true if it shows rebates, will AT&T ever get the TP2?
http://www.wmexperts.com/touch-pro-2-snap-headed-us-cellular
Colin I can't see at&t being the only carrier not to have the TP2.
Anyways, here's a post that shows an at&t variant of the TP2 clearing the FCC: http://www.wmexperts.com/touch-pro-2-att-passes-fcc .

Just because ATT clears FCC with this phone doesn't mean it'll happen... If memory serves me right, ATT had the Samsung i900 cleared to go last year, also, and that didn't happen
But not saying the TP2 won't happen, either...
ok, i have seen these posts before, but did the FCC say that that specific one would be AT&T's model to be sold on the shelfs?
it doesn't make any sense that ATT would miss out on the TP2. we shouldn't look into this too much. ATT will be getting their variant of the TP2. we just need to be patient [:

really? I can. They are the only ones getting the new iphone and with all their sights set on it, i wouldn't be surprised at all if they ignored the Touch Pro completely. Give how many iPhone users their are, and how many would jump on the upgrade, id say they dont see the TP2 as much of a thing to bother with, while the other carriers Need it just to compete with the iPhone.

for most AT&T customers on these forums, I hope you are wrong lyian...
in my eyes, the TP2 will completely overshadow the iPhone, regardless of how fast the 3GS is.
and, knowing ATT, they would be remiss if they didn't pick up the TP2. I mean cmon, they could make much more money with both the TP2 and the iPhone on their store shelves.

Oh i hope im wrong too, but its hard for me to think i can be. But understand all this that ive said is only from my perspective. I live in a college town, and i swear if i had a dollar for every iPhone i saw on campus every single day id be a very rich man. Two of my friends alone have them and they arnt students! iPhones are Every dam where over here. So for atleast the ATT stores here, the iPhone is king, much as i hate that idea.
I will say tho, that when i went into best buy to get a charger, i showed the cellphone guy my phone and he was like "ah HTC, yea, they're about the only phones worth running Windows Mobile on these days" hehe i just smiled
Remember the rumor involving the Barium? Hmm.... I would get the more featured OmniaPro before an ATT phone that doesn't tilt, even w/o 3G!
I have to agree with Lyian on this one. At my college some students doing a statistics project about cell phones found out that over 61% of the campus was using some sort of iPhone (2G-3G) and that another 20% or so were using a LG envy of some sort. I found this to not so surprising. I myself am using the iPhone (I know I know). I gave up on my old HTC 8525 due to the sluggishness of windows mobile. But now that I see the overhaul HTC has done with their Touch Interface, I really want one bad.
I popped into the ATT Shop yesterday and asked all the clerks and even asked to speak to the manager if they had any word on the HTC Touch Pro 2 or code-name ATT Fortress and they hadn't the slightest idea what I was talking about. Instead they kept showing me over to the iPhone 3G S and trying to get me to buy that instead (I told them I was looking to upgrade)
With ATT having the iPhone (and just getting the 3G S) they really is no need for them to push this phone out anytime soon. Maybe the 'changes' they will make to the phone will be there as to not overshadow their signature phone
Maybe I should just get the 2G TP2...
but they have released both the tilt and fuze; both of which were released along side the iphone. why would they stop now? i really believe that at&t markets these phones to two completely different markets; the fun young crowd (iphone) and the more business oriented customers (touch pro2). at&t has released an updated htc device every october/november. i dont see this being any different.

two reasons.
1. With each iPhone release, the sale of that model phone has been better than the last. Im sure the 3gs will outsell the 3g. At first they were all about the HTC phones, then the iPhone came out, and while they may have been holding on to the HTC phones as a 'just in case', they likely feel pretty secure in their sales of the iPhone and dont have to worry about it not being a good seller.
2. Apple is making more business like apps available to try to merge into that selling market as well. Now they arnt nearly as flexible as something on a Winmo(especially with the limited interface of the iPhone) but thats not the point, and i doubt ATT cares much.
I bet if you look at the HTC phones vs the iPhone sales, their would be a major difference. Perhaps they so much more potential profit from the 3gs release, that they don't see a need to bother with the Pro2
But who knows.. All any of us can do is wait and see what ATT ends up doing.
But I don't understand why at&t would care? Either way they're making money, the data plan is the same price, why not offer both and give more options to their customers? makes no sense for them not to carry it, and I'm almost sure they will carry it. However its probably not gonna hit till october...

AT&T Owners: Ready to Tell AT&T to Kiss Off?

I'm pretty much at my breaking point with this company. Between empty promises, botched hardware and being the last of the majors to even release the new technology, let's just state what goes without saying: AT&T should rename themselves to iPhoneT&T because they've apparently bet the farm on that overrated piece of crap and in turn have thrown their Windows Mobile business clients under the bus.
No amount of excuse makes sense or matters any more. The iPhone 3GS has been on the market for plenty of time. If someone was gonna buy it, they'd have bought it by now. If they were waiting for WinMo 6.5, they could have released it as an update rather than making their clients wait while every other major phone company released it. Not to mention the fact that the "consortium" of US carriers have kept HTC from releasing unlocked versions for U.S. consumers. God forbid they didn't get their over-charging grubby hands on a few extra shekels. For the love of everything sacred, HTC is already leaking the HTC Leo and I have yet to see a TP2 outside of a T-Mobile showroom!
AT&T has lost it's focus and I'm at the point where waiting for them to get off their sorry butts to release a phone (of which they're going to screw up the hardware, let's be frank) has become a near impossibility and I'm about ready to jump ship.
That leads me to two questions: Who's with me and where the heck should I go?
Hey I feel your pain I am still using the Hermes from 3 years ago. I really want this phone but I can't do Sprint (Not enough custom ROM's etc) and Verizon well they just totally suck!! T-mobile is an option but coverage isn't that great here and there is no 3G and I have heard the sound volume is sucky on that one for some reason.
So I am stuck for now. As far as the whole 6.5 thing it really doesn't matter to me because I would just be using a custom ROM from here anyway but I really have no choice but to wait
While the Leo looks bad as hell I think its the first time I have actually thought hmmm maybe that phone is just too damn big for me lol
They've got the iDud and all the money and glory that goes along with it, do you think they give a crap about the Touch Pro 2?

Just my personal experience and I told myself long ago I would never give them my money again because of the things they do.
Most of their phones you can't send files like pics and ringtones via bluetooth because that profile is taken out. Alot of phone have GPS locked and WIFI taken out etc.
Again thats just my personal opinion.

They used to do those things, that's true, but no more, all their smartphones (and regular phones) come with all features (like GPS, Bluetooth OBEX, etc.) intact and ready for use. They have also released ROM updates for many devices, like the original Touch Pro and Omnia that unlock the GPS on them. They said they'd do it, and they did, I am surprised but pretty happy they have
Thats probably true but at this point its the principle of the matter because I have way too many options in my area. Besides they are also the most expensive.
We've got 5 carriers, AT&T (formerly Edge Wireless here, an AT&T affiliate), Verizon, US Cellular, Metro PCS and as of this summer/fall, T-Mobile, who is just building out in our area. In terms of actual coverage, it goes like this-
1.US Cellular
2.Verizon
3.AT&T
4.Metro PCS
5.T-Mobile (they are just building out, hence the low rating).
Sprint and Nextel have licenses to serve our area as well, but have never built out a network here. Sprint roams on US Cellular, and Nextel phones are just dead paperweights.

Oh it's obvious that they don't give a crap about it. My problem is that they want to have their cake and eat it too. "We don't give a crap about Windows Mobile users and we'll release the phones we're going to whenever we darn well please, but we want to be sure that HTC doesn't give people the opportunity to buy it before we make it available."
The fact that they keep the manufacturer from releasing an unlocked version that will work here is criminal. It's almost a cellular monopoly but in the sense that the carriers have gotten together as a team in an effort to remove choice from the consumer. They can claim all they want that you can still buy one from the manufacturer but that's like saying you can only buy a Porsche in the US from a Porsche dealer. If you order one from overseas, not only will you pay significantly more, we're also going to replace the engine with one from a 1987 Ford Escort.
Why can't we just buy the phone we want from whoever we choose and let that be that. I still have to pay for service any way you cut it. They can't be making THAT much money of the device itself anyway!

Everything I've read leads me to believe it's a great device and worth the wait. If I get 2 years out of a Tilt 2 like I have my Tilt 1, it's all good.
I'm with you. Hopefully I'll be saying byebye to AT&T today...Once my TP2 arrives..
I don't mean to be a little rough but STOP WHINING AND TAKE ACTION!
I felt exactly as you did and changing carriers wasn’t really an answer. After all, by buying from any carrier you are supporting HTC and the local carriers who arrange/force HTC not to release phones with US 3G bands.
The ONLY way this is going to change is if the customers (YOU) change.
Personally, I have decided I will NOT sign any 2 year commitment and I will NOT be forced to buy a data plan, and I will NOT support HTC who is allowing ATT and others to bully them into not releasing world phones with US 3G bands.
The solution is simple, buy from a company who DOES NOT DO THIS. Personally, I went with the Samsung Omnia 2. If that is not your cup of tea, look at Nokia’s or even the Sony X2 which is due out soon. Support the companies that are releasing phones with US 3G bands.
The only way the local carriers are going to change (or HTC) is if enough of us speak with our money and take our business elsewhere. That is the only way things will change. Whining about it on a forum isn’t going to have any effect.
Good luck to you and I hope you do speak with your wallet by taking your business to other phone manufacturers.
While I'm certainly not enjoying the wait to upgrade my 8525, I don't really see the issue with them waiting for WinMo 6.5. Sucks for me, but then I know the carrier is going to fully support it. Are all the other carriers going to have 6.5 upgrades ready and waiting on Oct 6th?
Also I feel like I'm in the minority, but my experience with AT&T has been great. Their 3G coverage in my area is fantastic. I'm not a big fan of AT&T as a company, but I have a hard time arguing with the service I receive.
My first post.
I've been waiting on ATT for what seems like forever. Think I'm going over to Sprint in a week or two so I can try out both the TP2 and the Hero then decide which one I want. Not to mention the monthly cost will be significantly reduced compared to ATT.
Have a newb question. I know there is a different hardspl for the Sprint version, that isn't out yet as far as I can tell, but once hardspl is out will all the roms, software, etc. for the other versions work on the CDMA version? If not I might be stuck waiting on ATT and paying too much for service.

i think the main reason att hasnt released the touch pro 2 is that their network isnt ready to handle all the data the will be running on those devices, they have already alot of activity from the 3gs , also they are waiting to release it with windows 6.5 so that will be a plus because it will be definite that it will be fully supported, just my .02

Ditto, Verizon (coverage and unlocked GSM sim card), sprint if they have good coverage in your area (4G),
I would have jumped ship if not for the fact that it would cost me a minimum of $30/month more on any other carrier compared to my grandfathered plan.
So in the meantime my Tilt is enough to keep me going, though my patience is very thin at this point. I just want to know a release date (price too would be nice). That would at least make the waiting more bearable knowing when it would end.
Leave AT&T cause they release a phone 2 months after others? Doubly a solid reason.
I like AT&T, I like their prices (I pay $20 for unlim internet, + $70 for 2 phones (700 mins)). Plus their rollover feature is cool, I got like 4.8K minutes accumulated (way too much I know).
Plus their customer service is awesome, they've repeatedly forgiven me $200-$300 on my account when I went way out of limit (about 4 years ago). My friend with Verizon was so jealous.
Just hang tight, AT&T's tilt 2 will be out in Nov '09.

What's the likelihood of T-Mo being 1 of the carriers for WP7 in the fall?

we've all seen the GSM WP7 phones made for ATT... but no TMo luv?
has TMo gone completely to the droid side? i know they have a HTC one for Droid out in the fall w/keyb... but no WP7 love from Tmo?
I don't see why they wouldn't get a phone from someone for the release. They still were the only ones to get the HD2 and such in the US.
its been rumored they're getting the dell lightning.
and the htc mozart
I'd say the odds are >95%. We've seent he mozart/shubert leaks with the release date on the leaked roadmap. WP7 sure seems like it's headed for all 4 carriers. AT&T claiming to be the premier carrier just seems like a lame cry because they are losing iPhone exclusivity.
At this point seeing the launch hardware I say T-Mo (US at least) and other US carriers wont get more than 1 device and that will be in the back of the store while they steer people to their android handsets.
So far zero WP7 phones have been noticed going through the FCC with tmo's bands. All of the phones that have been actually photographed are ATT phones.
So right now it's looking bad.

i don't think they are coming at all this year. maybe next year perhaps? i do know sprint & verizon are hell bent on android right now. plus verizon is strongly rumored to get the iphone in january, i don't think they will give two ****s about wp7. the only windows phone t-mobile currently carries is the hd2 and with the g2 just announced, well you see what direction they are heading. winmo was never a huge seller for these carriers in the first place. mostly business & corporate gurus used them.
As long as the Dell Lightning is released as rumoured in an AWS compatible version I will be happy, I prefer to buy unlocked anyway, carrier lockin doesnt work for me.

There was an interview with a tmo big wig thats said pretty much that. Hopefully they have sold enough tp2 & hd2s to realize wm is not completely dead. Im in no rush for wp7 os but I would like an wp7 hardware for a tp3 with wm6.

actually yes i do, i personally know several corporate gurus with sprint & verizon. they have no plans on a wp7 device this year. i heard the only carrier so far is at&t and i think their getting it because they are loosing the iphone exclusivity to verison early next year. you don't believe me, do some google searching. the customer base right now wants android & iphone, not winmo.
the so called "we want wp7" petitions they have right now are very, very small in fan base. palm & blackberry will fall off the radar soon too if these companies do not step up to the plate. i work on phones & 95% of those phones i service or unlock are droids. two years ago winmo had a larger fan base, most devs have moved to android.

and t-mobile is smart in doing soo. i hope at&t jumps on the droid bandwagon too. droid is the hot seller right now, that's until something else comes along better and i don't think wp7 is that device.
the t-mobile g2 that was just announced will be solid.

What you're saying is correct for right now, but what you don't seem to understand is the fact that WP7 is not even out on the market yet. It's not a finished product, whereas, Android and IOS are already out on the market
and they have an established consumer base. Obviously, the Cellphone giants are going to invest their money into the proven product (just like you keep saying over and over again...) but that DOESN'T mean that WP7 is a "terrible" product, it only means that it hasn't been given a chance to prove its worth. Give WP7 6-12 months, and you'll see that your assumptions about the product were ignorant and premature. As far as AT&T goes, the loss of Iphone exclusive rights might have something to do with their huge investment in WP7. However, it also has to do with the fact that they are giving Microsoft a chance because they know that there is a consumer base for their product, and that they have the potential to take over a great amount of the market. Pessimists like yourself just want to stick to what they feel safe with and won't acknowledge that there may be better devices out there other than a non-customizable glitter phone for conformed snobs who think whatever is in demand is what they should buy, and a search engine phone, whose company thinks it's high-tech just because it calls it's phone's UI Android but still can't get rid of it's touchscreen lagging after 2 years on the market... Get a grip mate and stop writing ridiculous comments about a product that you have "researched" through some fanboy blog that you found through google, and that you're not qualified enough to own at this point, much less give advice about...

There's absolutely no reason why there wont be unlocked versions sold, only in the US is locking people into carriers popular AND so easy, in Europe you walk into a store and buy the phone you want, unlocked and insert your SIM card. Same will be true for WP7 phones.
I don't see why Sprint/Verizon don't get one when they are labeled as Launch Partners with Microsoft. Unless they pulled out for some stupid reason, why in the hell would they not get the phone since they have little to do on their end to support it? HTC makes the phones, Microsoft standardized setup, and people that do not want Android/iPhone/BB/crap phone, will buy it. Sure its an investment but you really think Sprint will not get a 4G version and push it? Sprint does have some good Android stuff, but they do not have the "Droid" market like Verizon and I believe it would be wise to get some 4G WP7 devices and really market around them. It would be stupid not to.

Hurry up Microsoft/VZW, I want my WP7!

I want a WP7 so badly on Verizon. To have all my services (Xbox Live, Zune Pass, Netflix) on one phone is what I have been waiting for years now. Since I don't want to miss out on hacking I probably will get a Android tablet this year. But yeah hurry up VZW!
wait for it...
you'll want to wait for some upgrades so you can use data and voice at the same time...
imagine the buyers remorse of all those iphone users in a month or so...
I may be the minority but I barely talk on my phone and I use it all the time
Hang in there for a little while longer. I'm a live/zunepass user as well and having everything in one device has been great. If I want to send a message on xblive I just use the phone rather than the controller. You already know how great zunepass is, now I have one less device to carry.
Soon it will be yours!
CDMA support is in this coming update and the phones will be released shortly after. I think you will be seeing it sooner rather than later.
I want a WINDOW PHONE 7 NOW NOT 6 MONTHS FROM NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about six days? They are clearly not going to release a WP7 phone for Verizon in six months. It will be WAY earlier.
don't be in such a rush. i was at tmobile and verizon last night in the mall and both are just pushing android devices. verizon is also advertising the heck out of the iphone now.
tmobile only had one hd7 out and they told me it is not selling well at all. they didn't even have the dell venue at all.
i got to play with the hd7 and while the design is great the os lacks very much. too simple for a high end user and tweaker such as myself.

My post.
Everything so far points to before the end of Feb (before/after the Cut&paste update comes) but, other reports say by then end of Jan. Others say any day now. So, no one has a phuck'n clue so far. No one is saying anything nor even hinting. I even have people in 5 Verizon stores who will text me when they know something and they don't know anything as of yet.
I'm sure by at least mid Feb we'll have one or at least know when we will get one.
I'll take one in 6 days if you can prove it.
Verizon WP7 by summer. IPhone will rule.
My bet is that Sprint will release a WP7 phone before Verizon.

The Venue Pro is only sold at the Microsoft store (there are only a few nationwide) or by ordering from Dell's website. It has T-Mobile 3G bands and that is about it.

Yeah, and AT&T sort of pushed the iPhone. They still sold the BlackBerry Torch upon launch. I think they are pushing WP7 now since they seem to be the only carrier with commercials.
I think Sprint will release their WP7 phone(s) before VZW.
So far, the only phone I've heard that is coming to VZW is the HTC Trophy (?), a super-generic (about) 3.6" touch screen phone.
The only WP7 phone out now that I want is the HTC 7 Pro. That will be coming to Sprint, and my fingers are crossed that VZW picks it up also since there will be a CDMA version already.

I really don't think that Verizon will get the short end of the straw for WP7. Something tells me that they might offer the some sort of Omnia device (maybe the Omnia with the keyboard). But I am just guessing because they offered Samsung Omnia phones in the past.

and how often does that come up??? And most times I try, even on 3g, if I wasn't already using the data, it tells me that I can't because I'm not on 3g (even though I am). There's a reason verizon is number 1, consistent data and voice services that don't cut out on you.

ummm, no DVP's in t-mobile locations, only at MS stores (what are there, like 2 of those in the whole country) and online through dell and MS.

· Look for the HTC Mozart and the Samsung Omnia to be the two launch CDMA devices. It’s unclear as to whether both will be available on Sprint and Verizon, but the devices are confirmed for the respective launches.
Nothing about the Trophy or Pro 7 on launch, but, take this with a grain of salt... Who knows for sure.

AT&T Announces Aggressive Marketing of Android Devices-No WP7 Love

According to the story in today's NY Times, having lost iPhone exclusivity, AT&T has announced it will be aggressively marketing its Android lineup. Not a word of WP7 from AT&T. I remain dumbstruck that Microsoft made AT&T their "premier launch partner," they couldn't care less about WP7 phones.
here's the link
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/28/technology/28phone.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
it's nothing personal against WP7, they're just going with where they think the money is.
Give it some time, this OS is not going to succeed for probably a few years.
Maybe I do take it too personally I love the OS, I love the Focus, and it seems to me if a company partners up with another company to sell its products, they should do something to sell the products. I was in a AT&T store recently with my college age son to get an iPhone (he has no interest in anything Windows), and just for kicks I asked the head sales engineer about the WP7 phones. He basically told me that they would have to be the last phones in the store for him to sell them. That's quite a partner.
Guess they didnt learn from putting all their eggs in the iphone basket.

And now they suddenly want to be behind android, but Verizon has that crown with their droid campaigns so now they are considered to have the best network AND the best phones. at&t is known as the former exclusive iphone carrier and for (alleged) poor wireless service, not as a great carrier for android phones and it will take time for them to make it as profitable for them as the iphone was. So putting all their eggs in the android basket doesnt seem smart. Nothing says they cant be strong supporters of both android and WP7, which benefits them now and not wait around till Verizon decides (if they ever do) to get behind WP7 in a big way and then at&t is once again just a one-OS carrier.

just one douche in one store. In the AT&T near me the reps think the phone is great, a few have them and they have told me specifically that they think it is better than android...
I went from Winmo 6.1 to 6.5 and just spent the past ten months on an Android device, albeit a POS SE X10, but still Android.
I am thrilled to be back with WP7.
I think this OS will take off also. It will take time but I'm confident a substantial user base will materialize.
It would behoove MS to release updates on schedule.
I'm sure AT&T has a WP7 strategy also, but just wasn't mentioned in the article.
I hope it's an aggressive one.
For now, their main rival doesn't have any WP7 phones. So now is the best time to hype it up.
Whatever happened to being the "premiere" WP7 carrier?
So, all those WP7, I've been seeing from AT&T, were dreams.

I don't know where "premier carrier" comes from or means really. id rather the isp's just be big, fat, dumb pipes... and buy the phone from whoever makes it.
really, how do we, consumers benefit from a carrier logo on a phone ?
another cool thing would be phones using all gsm bands instead of one or anothers... maybe someday... maybe

There was a reason the AT&T Mobility CEO and President Ralph de la Vega was addressing the keynote during WP7 launch.
I thought the reason was that WP7 and Microsoft will be AT&T's safe haven after iPhone users would depart to Verizon. What happened?

partners don't stay partners for long if there isn't money to be made, and tons of it. att was looking past the iphone exclusivity, and hoping wp7 was going to explode just like iphone did. if it does not, att will push whatever (android, blackberry, a box of crap that is perfumed like honey) it can to get people to sign a contract.
also, i wonder why people are supposed to suddenly drop att (and pay etfees) to go get on contract at another carrier ?
****
side note, i went shopping @ att's online chat service for a new phone, and service. the rep wouldn't even get into android, iphone, or wp7 MODELS without pushing for a contract first and foremost. they don't give a DAMN what phone you buy, so long as they can bill you (on contract) for $120 a month per line.
^ sounds about right. Contract first, then they will talk to you about any phone.
