Stock ROM w/ OC? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend has a slide but wants it to run faster. He doesn't want to lose Sense. What could I recommend for him to flash for a faster device but stock Sense?

All he need is to have root, you cannot make any changes to the phone without root.

Sorry I wasn't clear, yeah I know he needs root but he wants the standard Sense UI ROM but with possibly an OC'd kernal.

Not happening.... yet
So far as I know there is no way to oc the stock rom, rooted or not. Hopefully we'll be able to at some point. I think sense UI is an HTC thing so you may be hard pressed to find a custom rom with it, worth a shot though. Otherwise your friend is sol at the moment.

Tell your friend to update to CR's OTA rom, then he can OC like me to 806 if he wants. Hell he can keep it at 806 24/7 for all i care .

Ok thanks for the info guys. I'll let him know.

Check the dev forum. There is a kernel that can be OC'd.

Yeah, ran across that kernel before, there's 3 or 4 versions with different clocks. I think it's only for CyanogenMod or some other one. Maybe I'll try it with the stock rom, may end up with a paperweight though. But hey stranger things have happened

My phone is stock, rooted, and overclocked. 806/806 conservative, and 245/245 on lock screen. It can be done, and it is painless!

Still haven't got around to trying any of the kernels but it seems like I'll have to get the ball rolling now. Have you tried any of the other CM kernels with the stock rom?

Only use the ones that have "cm-espresso' in it. dont use it if it only has cm cause somethings may become broken....For example your led light(camera) might not function anymore...Those kernels with only cm are targeted to froyo roms based off the cm source.

Good news from Handler_Exploit ???
Check out his twittering
sounds interesting!
no bootloader?
Steve that's not what he meant. There is a bootloader, and a recovery. What he's saying is that the kernel doesn't have to be signed with a proprietary encryption key from Motorola to be able to function. At least that's my interpretation.
Meaning that once you get a recovery, we will be able to compile stuff from source. Meaning 2.2 it's possible before released by Motorola
sounds good,whatever,defy is great phone
If it turns out this phone is wide open for hacking, that'll be a sign I should sell my Milestone for a Defy.

I am porting sense from desire hd to the defy . who has time to support me
What about Froyo Vanilla?
Just hit me up if you guys need hosting for your roms. I have 30/30 fiber at home, lots of space (relatively speaking) and I could dial that fiber up to 90/90 if necessary

Maybe I just don't know enough about these things but that strikes me as a good question.
If it's possible to get Froyo on there before Motorola pull their collective fingers out, then it must be just as possible to get a working Gingerbread ROM, right?

[Q]Do these custom ROMs affect the global capabilities of the phone?

I'm traveling to Italy tomorrow and just want to make sure that by having rooted and flashed an ASOP ROM on it has not affected its ability to connect to the cell network out there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
It will depending on the rom you use. I have been using Newt's rom's primarily and i know he has gotten both GSM and CDMA to work on some of his newer versions, you will have to check the changelog to see which ones work though,
Newts newest 3D 2.03 has the world phone capibilities..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231283
But i cant speak for ASOP, you might want to check the log to see if it is listed as working or not.
I haven't tested Global Mode myself but people are reporting SkyRaider Zeus supports it.
I can give a big thumbs-up to the ROM as a whole. I have been running it for a few weeks and haven't hit a snag yet.

Oh Oh, I appreciate the feedback but is not at all what I was hoping for lol...I just posted this question on the ROMs thread but its too late to do anything about it if it does not have it enabled, $#|T!!!! For argument sake I posted it was I traveling but when in reality its a co-worker(a manager) who is traveling to Europe and is he's gonna be pissed if he steps off that plane and has no service...I'll just try and blame it on the network out there i guess if worse comes to worse lol...thanks again!
Best to go with SkyRaider Zeus. Based off the stock shipped ROM, not a port.
Which Aosp rom do you have on your friends phone?
I've read in various places that CM 7 will work globally. Not sure about any of the others though.

i live abroad and the stock firmware works fine with local GSM carriers
you can just flash rmk Rooted rom which is the original firmware after removing bloatware, works exactly like stock ( no bugs at all )
and if needed he added a flashable zip including all removed app.
if you like sense 3 , in the Forum there a sense 3 Patch . i tested that rom myself with the Patch and its fine
there is many sense 3 Roms that Support Global Mode also. but in my opinion that rmk Rom is the safest ( no bugs at all )
## phone codes
+1 for rmk's stock ROM.
Make sure that the ROM you use will allow access to the ## phone codes.
Or at least put a stock based cleaned ROM on the phone and set it up and do a nandroid of it so if he needs to access those codes, he will have a workaround.
I found that the AOSP ROMs don't allow access to those codes.
So if you need to manually change any data settings you have to use a sense based ROM to make those changes, then flash back to the ROM you want.
The data settings should stay between flashes but I found that even with full wipe and flashing the ROM, then the nandroid, I still got a boatload of FCs.
Good luck ....
Yep, just depends on which ROM you download. Some do, some don't.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

What is the best custom rom for the wildfire s?
Stable enough with a lot of features, a lot of internal memory for apps, visual customizable, long battery life, and doesn't lag much.. Any suggestions..

can't say that i reccommend this CM7 :s
i'm having nothing but trouble after i've installed it, and i can't seem to even get back to stock, it just gives errors :\
anyone who's not "upgraded" yet, i'd be very careful before going ahead with it for the moment :s
I had trouble with CM7 too.Installed it few times and always there was some bugs.
The most annoying was screen freezing and only battery removal helped.
but suddenly all that stopped and everything is working.
I will sure try some other ROMs,just to compare with this one.I am looking for roms without sense.

The ROM getting more exposure is going to likely show some things that need fixing.
If you can get it back on there your logcat logs and kernel logs will be of help to Alquez to address any issues with it.
I personally had an issue with my Wifi and had to use the radio lib from HTC Stock 2.3.5 to resolve it.
These things are experimental to say the least.

I think you need to try a little 180 on looking at things here.
The fun of this is trying new things and overcoming challenges to have something off the beaten path, custom and cool.
Sometimes it takes some trial and error but have fun with it! See it as a puzzle or a challenge to overcome.

Stock kernel for HTC Desire?

Does anyone have a link for a stock kernel which would be compatible with my set up (in sig)?

Could I try a stock rom and kernel and then go back to my current set up or would I then be unrooted?
Well you can "try" and flash the kernel I am using I suppose... but as far as I know it will break your camera and probably some other stuff I don't know. Do a nandbackup just in case you want to be adventurous. You only wanna find out if Sky would work if you change kernels first right?

Yes that's right, it has to be a stock kernel as sky do a check on the kernel before the stream loads apparently.
Well if it's stock kernel that it requires, then you have to use the official Sense based rom and kernel. All sense roms here uses a custom kernel so you are out of luck. You can't use Sense kernel on AOSP roms anyway.
OK cheers
I will have to wait for techy people to hack the sky go app then.
Depending on how Sky works, you can try and flash one those sense based roms. Who knows, the custom kernel they have might work. I have the impression that they are all based on the original sense kernel anyway. Or just wait for someone to hack the app.

Foolproof overclock for rooted uvalh2

Okay, I'm pretty noob at this. I just got my phone monday, rooted last night..tried to load up custom kernel (perseus) and encountered black screen problems. Finally after unbricking my phone and rerooting via Odin after 3 hours, I am finally back on a clean slate.
Anyone have a foolproof method via Odin to gain OC for latest stock OTA (uvalh2)?
Any simplified help would be awesome!

You can't overclock the stock kernel, and i don't recommend flashing a custom kernel over lh2, none are perfectly compatible, they break Wi-Fi among a couple other things.

So is there not a method I can utilize with my build? Sorry for my noobishness, but i havent attempted to mod a phone since the G2 was initially released. Back then, I was able to utilize scripts to OC + visionary r13. Is there anything similar to this?
No there is not.
There is one LH2 kernel that I am running right now that is overclockable. It is Trinity Kernel in the Original Dev section. Make sure you pick the correct one and please, please, please make a nandroid before you flash anything. If you have already soft-bricked your device, spent hours restoring and are now wanting to flash a custom kernel, you need to make sure you are covered (ie nandroid and reading).
Please note that the Trinity kernel for LH2 is experimental and should be treated as such. Meaning that the LH2 source code has not been released, therefore the source for this kernel is most likely the Sprint or VZW or Int'l version. I am not a kernel cook, but I do know what I am doing.
Tread lightly my friend and good luck. You've already had a rough few days with this shiny, new, extremely expensive toy.

Awesome, thank you for your input. I suppose there's alot I still need to learn- however with a full work load and a lovely girlfriend, it's hard to find time to do extensive research. Meh, I suppose I thought it would be alot easier to OC.
I think I'll just try out the new jellybean ota leak L17 for now.
...and yes, you're right- I should be more careful because this was indeed an expensive toy. I nearly freaked out when I soft bricked my phone!
aside from kernel, MSM8960 is only rated to 1.7GHz..
Mine already runs hot and from the stock build logs, tsens_tz_sensor0 or 4 (CPU temp)
is used to throttle the CPU:
57 -> 1.134GHz
60 -> 0.918GHz
64 -> 0.702GHz
105 -> shutdown (or 90)
You'd need a metal battery cover heatsink lol
I've been using the newest Trinity Kernel for UVALH2. It runs flawlessly. Even at 1.72Ghz running multiple applications I'm not seeing anything above the 115* area.
Stable, Smooth, Speedy, Cool.
Good Kernel for Rooted, Stock Rom, T-Mobile GS3's running the recent official OTA update UVALH2.

Awesome..in going to find that a try after doing some research. Is it necessary for that rom to be used for that kernel? Excuse my noobishness
As for perseus being intended for non-tmo, the guide claimed to be compatible. I think my mistake was initially flashing an old kernel intended for for preupdate. I dont know.. lol
I usually just go to the t-mobile galaxy s3 forums, just to make sure that everything i download and install are all compatible. Lol. Don't want to brick my s3. You'll find everything you need there, from stock roms to custom ones, kernels, even themes and lots of mods. Just be patient searching and reading. Once you get the hang of it I'm sure you'll try every rom, kernel, etc.
I came from an Htc hd2 now that's with my 8 yr old daughter. Lol. I learned a lot from there, once i got my s3 it was a piece of cake to root and customize it to my liking.
