sd card accessible but phone says its corrupted? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I have a transcend 8GB micro sd (class 6) in my desire.
Ive formated it like that:
7gb fat32
1gb ext3 (maybee its ext2 or 4 I dunno)
no swap
a few days ago my phone sayd that the sd card is corrupted!
The strange thing is that all my apps which are on the exp partition are still working flawlessly and I can also access all files on the sd card via ES Strong File manager!
What I cant do for ex. is setting up ringtones which are on my sd card. They show up in the ring tone menu but no sound plays but when I open em in the mp3 player they play fine!
I also cant take pics/vids with the cam because the phones says I should insert a sd card!
Is this a known problem?
What I wanna do is getting my data and my apps over to my computer and then reformating the card and transfering everything back. Just to see if it works then (doubt it!).
But I dont know how to do it because of the ext partition! Can you give me a hint please?

its quite easy for one partiton to be corrupt while the other isnt, thats because there using diffrent fs's unless you have linux there is no way to access your ext partiton, just format the card and start again

Download the gparted(?) liveCD.
Mount the disk image, via daemon tools/cd etc.
This way, you can just reformat the partition you need.
I found this useful switching my ext4 to ext3 without wiping my FAT32 partition.
As long as you don't attempt to resize or touch the FAT32 partition, as linux handles FAT32 differently, and can become temperamental.

Shouldnt I be able to access the ect partition from any linux distri via vm ware?
I think thats the way to go - will try it today and report
I found this, too: http://www.howtoforge.com/access-linux-partitions-from-windows
think it will work but I have to gather some knowledge about linux anyway!

[Q] Ext3 on 16gb SD Card

Hello.
I have bought a new SD Card (kingston 16gb Class4).
I had a lot of problems with ext3 make. By Gparted it have errors.
I have readed this topic.
Can I repair my SD Card?
Sry for my english.
How are you connecting the card? Via a card reader or still in the phone? If it's still in the phone make sure you are in recovery and not booted in to android.
I made it by card reader. Formatting and partitioning by recovery - errors.
Have you tried erasing all the partitions and creating them again? What happens if you click the 'Repair' button?
I've always done my partitioning with my card in the phone, connected to my PC while in recovery and used Minitool Partition Wizard for Windows (this software was suggested in a thread I read a while ago) and never had any problems.
There is also the possibility of the card having a hardware problem, so you might need to swap it under warranty.
yes, first i have erased all partitions (deleted)
On repair ext - error, fat32 works fine.
first make an extended partition for your fat32 and inside that a primary fat32.
The unallocated space make it ext3

shouldn't both partitions be primary (no extended ones)?
erase everything 1st keep it unformatted then create fat32 primary then ext primary (optional linuxs swap) this is what i have done when installed miui rom data2ext
i suggest you dont use that card reader try through the cell....
I have tried a lot of methods - ext still no works.

Where did you get the card from?
Stupid question but two of my friends bought cheap (fake) cards from eBay and both had problems with them, either the card kept losing data or they go errors loading from the card due to the poor quality. In which case you need to spend a little more and get a proper card from amazon on a high street retailer.
If not then as suggested use try formatting and partitioning the card through the recovery on your phone, most of the up-to-date recoveries can do this and it's the easiest way to get the card ass needed for a2sd etc. if it still doesn't work then take the card back it's probably faulty.
I bought this card too and even though I had no issues formatting the card I do have speed issues with it. I've been in contact with Kingston and they're looking into it. My writing speed is 1.6Mb/s....
But now a tip for you, I couldn't use Gparted since it's Live CD wont start my monitors. So I downloaded Easeus Partition Master. Very easy to use and it worked perfect.
Start with your Fat32 partition and then your Ext partition.
You can find the program here: http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

[Q] PC cannot read SD card when mounted as hard disk drive, WTF?

Hey guys,
Once I was living happily with Starburst ROM Lite 1.3.0 and Data2SD (flashable ZIP of Sibere's script) with Dalvik2NAND on a 1280Mb Ext4 partition on my 8GB class 4 Kingston microSD card. However I found that a 1280Mb Ext4 was too much of a waste cuz' all that I needed was 400Mb at most, so I repartitioned the card with Amon-RA Desire and set Ext4 as 512Mb and FAT32 using the rest. Then I flashed the ROM and the script again. At the begining everything was okay. However, recently I've found that when I connect my phone to PC and select the connection type as Hard Disk, the PC can recognize a new hard disk, but tells me that it is not formatted. I checked the partition status in Paragon Hard Disk Manager, and to my surprise, it CAN recognize the FAT partition and its free space and so on; also, the FAT partition can be read and written normally with Android apps like Estrongs, Astro and RE, even in recovery.
Yesterday I reflashed everything and the situation remained the same. I wonder, what is the problem?
P.S. this situation appears not only on one computers, but many.
Many thanks!
Partition(s) may have messed up. Format your SD card so it's all a FAT32 partition and see if that works. If it does work, just repartition it again with ext4 and FAT32 and see what happens. These things happen.

Cannot mount SD card

I was created two partition on SD card 2x2GB and installed Link2SD-1.8.0
Set Link2SD-1.8.0 to use another partition for data, to save space.
After that, I realized, I dont need 2GB for app, I need 800MB.
OK, then I delete Link2SD-1.8.0.
And on PC with MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, delete all partition and create 1st 3gb and 2nd 800mb. I format all partiton as FAT32.
After that Desire wont read my SD card!
I trying create one partion FAT, FAT32, Unformated... and phone dont read my card.
When I go to Recovery and mount USB, Windows read my SD card, but when trying with Desire mount sd card, he saying card cannot mount...
IMPORTANT PART
I trying another card (from nokia N73) and Desire read it.
If I use Desire SD card to N73, nokia says no SD card.
If I return back N73 card to N73, nokia says no SD card!!!?
If I return again to Andoid, then works, but in nokia no longer!
P.S
I dont have card reader...
From what I gathered from your post you made a mistake which causes the problems you described - you made all partitions FAT32... You should only make the first partition primary and FAT32 and the secondary should be EXT(2,3,4 - variant by your preference)... I'm not familiar with that MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition you used but I suspect that it won't do everything you need.... I recommend you reformat your sdcard with sdformatter or gparted (preferably because of alignment ability)... Probably after being formatted in gparted to a single primary partition you will get access to the card. If everything goes well then I'd repartition sdcard to link2sd needs in gparted or in the recovery itself (it probably won't make aligned partitions but to hell with that, they'll work )...
If you are not familiar with gparted search through xda since there are several good tutorials about using it... I use it regularly, i install it to a flash drive (through USBInstaller or Yumi or whatever tool you find) and boot to it, although you can burn it to a bootable cd/dvd just as well...
Hope any of this helped...
I used gparted and now is working! Thanx!
Great thing is gparted!

SD Card as EXT?

Ok, so I've searched around and haven't really found an answer to my question, sorry if it's been answered before.
I'd like to format my ENTIRE SD card as an EXT3/4 filesystem, and was wondering if it would register as a normal SD card under Android, or will it be used a "system partition"? Would i be able to transfer files freely using a file explorer and would apps using the SD card (not apps on the SD card) for data run properly. I'd like to have a different file system used as FAT32 is a little ancient, and EXT is much better. I'm running Ubuntu as one of my OS, so mounting it on my PC wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks.

It would still be seen as an external SD card whatever file system you format it as.
Thanks. Although, i was reading through that thread and it says that the SD card will be reformated to VFAT on reboot. Is this true for the DHD too?
Possibly. I wouldnt know to be honest. Might aswell wait until somebody who knows about this can answer.

[Q]NTFS SD Card Mount on NOTE II

Hello everyone, I know this thread is already present and I also red the info regarding with it, but it seems my problem is something I can't solve with the help of those previous instructions. I have an I idea how to solve it but I'm hesitant to do it because I don't know if it works, and I kinda scared to do it because I don't want to buy again another SD Card if ever the present one will break.
Problem: I have a torrent app in my Note II and I liked to use it always because it downloads fast, but the problem is that whenever I want to download files that is more than 4GB in size, I always receive an error that the file I want to download is to big for the file system; (file system limit exceeded), and I learned that this error occurs when my storage system is FAT/FAT32, then I read a thread in this forum that this will be solved by converting my SD Card's file system to NTFS and use Paragon NTFS Mount app so that my NTFS Card will be accepted by my phone, alas I did as what was instructed, converted my SD Card to NTFS, mount my card to storage/sdCard/extcard <---Created another path as it was said that using the default path would make it not work. But when I re-started to download files it fails to me again, the same problem encountered (file system limit exceeded). I even converted my SD card to exFat because I heard that this can handle large files, more than 4GB but also to no avail.
Solution(not tested yet): I am planning to make 2 partitions in my SD card, one partition would be fat32 and the other would be NTFS, and use also paragon app, so that when I insert my card to my phone, the phone will mount the FAT system to the fat32 partition and leave the NTFS partition alone and not be used.
Does this method of mine will work? Are there any ideas aside from what I had in mind that will also help me solve my little problem. I know that this problem of mine is not that big, and I can just refer it to other threads and the google but I want to know from the pro's and OP's here if my method is possible.
Thank you!
Kudos to all!:good:

You need to define a mount point like sdcard0 is internal sd sdcard1 is external sd fat32 partition sdcard2 as the ntfs partition which is really hard to do on a samsung based rom (even windows doesnt recognize the second partition on sd cards ) you can format the sd to ext3 or ext4 it's the best possible solution

I see, too bad, but thanks any way. Does the procedure in formatting my sd card to ext3 or ext4 is the same as when I format my card to fat32 other system, or would you use a program to do it.
Why are you using Fat32 or NTFS just format the SD card to ExFAT. No size limit and compatible with Note2 & Windows
I think the problem you are having is due to the torrent app you are using, it might be trying to use the internal phone memory as a temporary location for the file you are downloading. Try changing your torrent app
(I had this problem with the official utorrent app)
