Incredible Battery Issue!! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put the leaked 2.2 update onto my phone and it has been great. I have only had one issue with it thus far. Starting yesterday my battery life plummeted drastically out of the blue. It seems like it came out of thin air. There is no water damage or anything. I am avoiding doing a data reset. Does any one have any other suggestions?

Is your phone staying constantly awake? Is there an App causing it stay running? Are all of your apps up to date?
I've been on a 2.2 ROM for over a month and I have great battery life, even with my overclocked kernel.

I use Advanced Task Killer and my phone goes to sleep after 1 min. 2.2 Worked perfect with great bettery life for about 2 weeks. But last night everything went downhill. It maybe an App i downloaded? but i looked in my apps and things seemed to look normal.

Do you have the task killer automatically set to kill after a certain amount of time? If you do you may be killing processes only to have them be restarted right away by android system, then killed again, restarts...and so on. That will kill your battery like crazy! To be honest, try going 24 hours without your task killer and see what happens, I noticed an improvement. The way android manages it's processes there is no need for a 3rd party task killer. Also try the KingzKernel's they are fantastic with battery life.
Why Task Killers are not needed.http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

K, regardless, uninstall it for 1 day. U may notice a decrease in it benchmarks but ur actual performance will not change. I was a skeptic too, just give it a shot.

I'm having the exact same issue. I just flashed SkyRaider 2.5.2 the other night and Radio 2.15.
The problem I'm having is that my charge is taking almost 4-5 hours to charge when it use to only take a couple hours. Also, my battery is draining QUICK.
I just clocked it and I went from 100% battery after a 12-hour charge to 93% in about five minutes.
PLEASE, someone help with this issue.

I never had any issues with the original 7/28 leak (or whatever the date was), and once having the bugs worked out, never bothered with the 8/1 leak. I did the 8/26 leak as soon as it came out and was plagued with charge times exceeding my 7-hour per day sleep schedule, and battery life that would drop drastically with the screen off. I literally went from 40% to 5% in a matter of two hours with my phone sitting on my desk, screen off. I used nandroid restore to go back to the 7/28 leak i had backed up. I'm not sure where the bug is, but I hope Verizon/HTC release this update soon, so the OTHER 95% of Incredible owners can start *****ing too. Then maybe something will get done.

I tried bump charging this morning and it made no difference whatsoever. Withing 2 hours I'm at 35%. No Facebook syncing or really anything syncing for that matter... Just a crappy battery issue. Tried different Kernels and no difference which leads me to believe it may be Froyo or the Rom I'm using which is the virtuous Rom but that doesn't make sense....

I'm surprised this has not been addressed on a much larger scale within the XDA community. There is no way anyone could enjoy their Dinc with that much battery drain.
I am using the 3500 mAh battery and with stock phone and no root I was able to charge my phone in about an hour and could get nearly 2 days with heavy usage. Now I'm not sure I can even get 12 hours, but I haven't fully tested that theory yet.
My plan today is to do a full charge (Which will be done in a matter of minutes) and then I am going to do some clocking to see exactly how long it takes to discharge.
Regardless, why is this not a major concern in the community? I only see a few posts relating to it.

Ok, so I think this has been brought up before.
When my phone is at a complete IDLE (89%), my CPU is rocking out at 900+MHz.... I think this is what is causing my severe battery drain. Can any developers respond to this or can someone else advise? My sister who uses her stock phone with no root, etc is idling between 245MHz and 320MHz.
My battery is dropping way to quick and this has to be the answer. Please help. Thanks!

Thing is...
If you're on this forum, you're probably a constant tweeker. The so called "battery issue" is all over the place depending on who you talk to. I wrote "Making Your Droid's Battery Incredible" over at my website, but essentially you need to figure this out yourself. Battery usage depends on so many things like the programs you run, the kernel you're using, and the battery you have (and the condition of said battery). If there were a uniform problem, it would be much easier to identify.
Oh, and if you're humming along at 900mhz while idle, try SetCPU.

The phone is about 2 months old. I flashed CM7 last week, however this is the first time my battery drops dead so fast, given i didn't have any apps opened or whatever... (i kill everything with Advanced Task Killer before turning off the display).
The sync and data traffic were both on, but that's how they are all the time...
Please help me figure out what happened. The phone is on the charger atm, I will check if the same thing happens again when it charges up.
Always, after flashing a new rom, you must run Battery Calibration...
As I said, i flashed CM7 last week and this is the first time my battery drops so fast... So i doubt it has to do with calibration... I will wait to see if the battery drops so quickly again after its recharged and if so i will calibrate it.
which cm7 did you flash? im using the 110822 boot179 nightly, and my phones dead in 12 hours... but that only started two days ago, im using it since the 25th!
Don't use task killer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678205
When system is out of ram it will automatically kill unnecessary process. And process which use ram only don't waste your battery
i use the ram optimizer (link in my signature), that works very good as well!

Hi,
I am having this kind of battery drain issue (not so big but still) with this kernel cm7-110822-1650-BOOT179-4-Jordan.zip.
Which kernel do you use and where can I find some informations about this kernel battery drain please?
I am following the cyanogen thread since some weeks now and a lot of people seems to use this kernel

I'm running cm7.1.0 RC1 v2 (which should be using the 179 kernel in question), i also applied the RAM patch from your sig, so I'm not using atkiller anymore, also i got the battery calibrated.
Phone's behaving fine now but I still got no clue as to what caused the problem or if any of the things that I did fixed it.
And it was all fine until last night when my battery dropped from 80 to 1% in about 8 hours when i was sleeping. I will be flashing 0901 later today... This is starting to get very annoying...
Update.
Yesterday I installed BatteryMonWidget and here's what happened last night:
-1171mA in the middle of the night with both data and sync off ...
I am running Nightly 0901 with battery calibrated and all, It was behaving the same way with RC1 v2, I didn't have BMW then but it was having the same kind of drops in the battery use graphs...
So any suggestions?
Looking at your battery during the loss it goes from 70% down to 49% - now a few people, me included, have a strange issue with the battery % at around the 49% level. Mine tends to go from 59% down 49% & this is only when I charge it to a full 100%. If I let it discharge lower than 49% then charge it to an indicated 95%, which the Defy actually reads as fully charge, then my battery discharges normally without any jumps. It's always been like this for me regardless of being on CM7, froyo etc. & makes no difference wiping battery stats or calibrations.
You could also get alogcat from the market & see if it shows any abnormalities during that time incase your issue is caused by something else.
Also if you keep an eye in your settings menu, battery use & see if Android OS is using a lot of battery at that time.
Likewise look in the spare parts app, battery history, other usage, CPU usage & see if any process seems abnormaly high - maybe "suspend" as this is an issue for many people at the moment.
Thank you for the reply.
About the charge-discharge drop - It happens to me too, but not on every charge/discharge... Today when I was charging my phone and it went from 77 to 100 in 5 minutes. (indicated as ~1400 mA jump by BMW). Also i had another huge drop in battery around 11am (42% to 19%)...
I have been keeping an eye on the battery usage statistics and CPU usage too, but nothing strange there...
You can see the two drops and the charge jump on the screenshot:
i've got the same issue like you 2! with RC1V2 my battery dropped from 54% to 49%.
now with RC1.5 it goes down from 59% to 49%.
that's very strange.
for what it's worth
For what it's worth-- I am running standard OTA Froyo, and after I noticed in just the past couple of months of very warm to darn near hot to touch, and dramatic battery power loss compared to when I first owned it, I started trying different things to manage that-- turning off Wifi, 3g etc-- what I found on mine was that turning off "background data" in the data manager settings, did the trick for me-- it has returned to the optimal power status/standby time I was used to, when I first started using it.
I haven't tried fiddling with the "background data" setting, but today i got the exact same drops at the exact same percentages, which leads me to believe that it has to do with the charge estimation method. So today i put a brand new battery in my phone and im waiting to see if there will be a similar dip in the charge level as with the older one.
Here's a pic of the drops:
Battery Calibration helped me, too !
Another update
After I changed the battery the drops disappeared, however i have a new smaller drop (60 to 50%), I have to see if it will appear again after the next charge. However my phone is alive and kicking after 48 hours of use with about 40% battery left. So I will go ahead and say that my old battery was faulty/misused or for whatever reason it was not performing optimally.
I will give it to a friend with a defy and ask him to install bmw and use it for a week and let me check the logs afterwards, i suspect they will be more or less similar to mine regarding the charge drops.
heating
btw, do you have heating problem? it might be becuse of some overclock or wrong vsel. check that too.

Battery Life dreadful after ITL41F

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this side effect of the ITL41F update? My battery life has been really really good, much better than that of my HD7. I was really chuffed with it. Along comes the ITL41F update, and since then the battery will drain itself on standby. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have not installed any new apps or made any settings changes (such as sync frequency, etc). So the only difference is the ITL41F update.
To give you an idea, If I charge the phone in the late afternoon, and then pretty much leave it alone, by the morning it will have gone down to 15% battery or less. This morning I plugged it in again, and now it's down to 50%. And I only sent a single txt message and didn't do anything else on the phone. This is properly rubbish.
Anybody know where I can report this bug to Google/Samsung?

I would say your mobile signal is using up a lot battery. when it is yellow that means its weak, and grey means no signal. Since this is the main 2 colours on your chart I would say this would be the main reason for your battery drain

Are you seriously asking that question?
You improve your mobile signal but getting your network provider to install another mast, or switch to a different network with better coverage in your area.
If you could improve signal with APN settings or flashing a different radio it would be done like that from the factory!
WEll, I have a LG Optimus One and use franco kernel with it, and am soon buying a GN because he develops for it too, SO:
FLASH FRANCO KERNEL!
DOnate him a beer before and ten after the WOW-experience you'll get when you realise 4 days later that your battery is only 10% becuase of the popup.
And now read my words again.
It's the best option!
Your phone was awake for more than 50% of the time. If you really didn't use it, there's most likely a rogue app which is preventing phone from going into deep sleep.
Use an app like System panel to locate the culprit.
nevermind - delete me
Thanks for the fast replies guys, it's much appreciated! =)
What I find puzzling is that absolutely NOTHING has changed on the phone, apart from the update. So if there was a rogue app that was consuming the battery, it should have exhibited that behaviour before the update, right?
I will check with system monitor though, to see if I can spot something. The strange thing I noticed is that the OS is consuming *more* battery than most other functions. Even on standby.... weird!
After finally getting the patch I can't say the battery has been worse. In fact it seems to be better. Although I think that is down to the fact I've been through a few charge cycles now.
click on android OS, and check out the awake and CPU times. The cpu time should be a fractions of the time awake.
example, my phone has been on this charge for 22 hours (still 36% battery left.. didn't use it too much this charge). the leading battery drain is screen at 51% (2.5 hours awake time), and the 2nd leading item is Android OS which has the following:
CPU Total - 18m 53s
Keep Awake - 4h 46m 9s
I'm just curious on why your CPU total was in relation to the awake time by Android OS.
Mines great.

its funny how many similar theads appear everytime a phone gets updated. And most of them all go down to user error.
Just saying. my Gnex is fine after 11F update, OP should probably do a wipe
Guys, I'm not ruling out 'user error', but at this moment in time I cannot see what I could have possibly done to cause it. I have purchased System Panel on the Market and I'm running it in monitoring mode to see if it can shed some light on the issue. Strangely, 'Cut the Rope' and 'Exchange' are running constantly and as a service. Not necessarily consuming CPU while the phone is asleep though. Just though it would be strange for a game to be running as a service? Must be a reason for it....
Ask the developper of "Cut the Rope" why does it need to run that way. Exchange is run as a service because you probably need it.
Anyways, you can try a clean flash with stock ITL41F. But i'd say apps are to blame

what rom are you running? if i remember correctly there was an issue with one of the roms but i cant remember. but I do remember it being an older rom that did that.
as for the batt. % i get that all the time even when i reboot..tho i get a bigger drop in % when the batter is lower.. like if i was at 50% batt power.. reboot then i would be like at 20% batt. power.. but it would stay at 20% for a really long time till it caught up with it. and sometimes the batter % would rise up a bit. but eventually start to go down again.
But maybe I have a bad battery also.. so im not sure...lol

I had the exact same problem my phone would constantly reboot and shut itself off then I would lose half my battery % I thought it was the battery too so I returned it to stock and took it to sprint they looked at the phone for 2 hours and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with it or the battery. So I took it home and re rooted using Qbking77's latest method the one that does not give you the yellow triangle and I have not had one reboot or sleep of death since and the phone just runs soo much better now so I think it was a bad root for me. I would try re rooting with the latest method and see what that does for you. Also ya out of curiosity what rom are you using because I have heard similar stories from people running the ICS leaks.

I'm running caulk's fc07 1.1 with the repacked kernal. It happened to me before on GB while also running caulk's rom but it only a few times. It seems to happen more now. Here is a screen of my battery
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
I believe this would happen more in most recent ROMs because everyone is focusing how fast we can run it or how long we can use it. In either case, there are lots of tweaks and mechanism to make it fast and last long.
For the battery life, there is some background process monitoring unnecessary processes and kills those or tweaks to less frequently monitor the status. So, if the process which is related to battery life is killed, next time when it wake up, it may detect the different life time based on current Voltage or mA. I'm not an expert in this area but it's highly possible scenario. Tweaking the system brings lots of good things to us but in the other side, there could be some
side effect.
If you want to verify this theory, you can just compare the non tweaked rom versus tweaked Rom.
Be sure that you don't run any battery saver apps on non tweaked rom to measure it correctly.
Attached is my last screenshot yesterday after I removed the battery saver app. Currently I'm using Calk's Stock Rom FC07 (non tweaked version). Based on my test, the battery last longer than when battery save app installed and running.
Cool I didn't know that would be an issue. Well I'll try that thanks for help
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
Also a note... with my experience anything to do with 3g service... I can kiss my batter life goodbye... if im at 100% battery life.. and i have 3g on... it will last around 5 hours and its dead

Battery life after Jelly Bean Update

how was your battery life after update . my was suck drain very fast
I don't know how most people got better battery life, but mine worse, not extreme, but noticeable worse.
Android system and Android OS takes second and third place, which on ICS I barely see their place on top of battery usage.

Seems the same for me...at first after updating battery life was terrible..but after a few charges and reboots it seems to be getting better.
Download an app from the play store called "CPU Stats" and see if the CPU is under serious load when you're not doing anything. If it is, you may have the same issue I had which was that the media scanner was getting stuck in folders that had a lot of files in them. My idle cpu utilization now hovers between 8-30% on core 1 and core 2 stays sleep for the most part.

I offloaded my Titanium Backup folder to my PC & deleted it from my phone plus made sure to get rid of any corrupted pictures (aimed at the 0 bytes ones). So not only is my battery life better, but the performance is also much better because the CPU(s) aren't really doing anything until I actually use the phone. Note that this is an issue I've only had w/ Touchwiz Jellybean and never had it with CM10 or any AOSP based rom. This is a bug that Samsung/Google really needs to get on top of because I'm sure that a lot of people are having this problem and don't know how to fix it.

My battery life has been amazing
This was after the weekend. Friday Morning I charged it and then I was off I went to work. After I went to a party didn't charge my phone. Woke up in some girls room. Still surprised I had more than 50%. I didn't go home that day and everyone had an iphone so I couldn't charge my baby. Wake up go home and I had this much and I was like wow holy sh**.
Stats: I had a little over an hour of talk time and a little under 2 hours of screen time.
Yeah I know why is battery life good if you don't use the phone but dude seriously I had a GS2 and drainage on standby was so bad. I like that they improved standby battery drainage this was beautiful. I have the latest Stock Jelly Bean. Rooted, debloated myself with stock Kernel. Might add a new Kernel but don't really need to this is just great.

How did you fix your issue?

I was having this exact issue and fixed mine by copying my external SD card contents onto my desktop and then reformatting my sd card. After that I just transfered my old pictures and videos back to my card.
For people who are having poor battery life, the best thing you can do to help others help you is post a screen shot or at least write down what is using your battery and how long you have screen on time. When I was having my media issue it was obvious when looking at the battery usage since my cpu was constantly awake. Just saying "i have poor battery life" really doesn't explain much at all.
That would explain things... I had my media scanner get stuck and take down my battery a couple of days ago... after a reboot though it was much better... Though I should have let this run longer on battery just to see how long it would run.
Ok so since the JB update it seems my battery has been draining a bit faster. I've tried turning off sync and all the other normal stuff but it doesn't seem to help. Here are my stats and the slight lapse on the time line was when I was in CWM doing a nandroid backup.
I don't think that you can compare yours since you did a backup, that always drains the battery more than normal use would.
Well all I can say is its normally like that. I pull my phone off the charger at 7 am and by 4pm its usually at 10% with maybe an hour of on screen time. I'm just trying to figure out why it dies so much quicker than what most people are posting here. I try to keep everything closed and off and I've frozen all the bloatware.

Battery drain during standby.

It used to be that with the screen off and the phone on idle with the screen off, I would lose maybe 2% per hour. This morning, my battery quickly dropped to 50% with some phone call but very light use. So I charged it back up to 80%. For the last hour, it dropped about 9% with the screen completely off and I had cleared the memory prior to that. That is unusually high since the phone is sitting in one place in an area that has good 4g and 3g.
How is your standby battery drain? I am on LJC stock rooted.
Edit: reboot phone and now it is better. Loosing 6% in 2 hours of standby. Much better.

Glad a reboot helped. I'd recommend rebooting every day. I usually do it first thing in the morning and before going to bed.
My battery life on LJC rooted was fantastic. Never had a phone like this. My EVO3D with 3300 extended battery was good, but still not as good as the note2.
I experienced a really weird battery drain a few weeks ago but cannot replicate it. However it dropped from 100% to 42% in 2 hours time. Pulled battery recharged it and nothing since. But I usually get 16+ hours a day with extreme usage. I am talking 5 hours of netflix and some pandora and games. On my weekend when I dont use the phone much I get 48 hours usually.

I kept checking it with battery monitor widget and the third and fourth hour, it was only losing 1% per hour much like my old E4GT. Battery drain went down from -300ma to about -45ma.

Which app is that? I've been looking for something to view battery current, many I used on HTC phones don't work on Samsung.
Does that app also have a better understanding of what apps are causing battery drain? I'm tired of seeing "Android OS" and not knowing EXACTLY what it is...Might help me diagnose my Fiance's E4GT (GS2) with "Android OS" as the main culprit at 67%...

That's just battery monitor widget available at the play store. It is still hard to tell what is exactly causing the -300ma drain during standby with screen off.
