[Q] Plantronics Discovery 975 BT Headset problem - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Plantronics Discovery 975 Bluetooth Headset. I loved it on my Touch Pro 2 and had no issues.
But, since I have had my Evo, I can't use it much because everyone I talk to says I am too loud or just sound like static or crackling noise. Resetting BT or having them call back helps a little bit they say but not much. Then, it returns.
Is there anything I can do, should I buy a different headset, is there a concensus in the Evo community on what the best headset is for this phone for someone who likes high end headsets? Could it be my particular headset just got a weird defect? Or, is it just that the headset on the Evo is just not good despite it's other really cool features?
Anyone with good headset experiences with the Evo, please also post what headset you are using.
I get that nothing is perfect but I bought the 975 for the Touch Pro2 and loved it. And I just want similar results on the Evo with this headset or another headset IF such results can be had. If there's no headset that will work as well, I sadly may have to give up .3 inches of my screen and try the Samsung Epic. That's a great phone but I kinda want ever square inch of my evo screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anybody ?

No answers for you. Re-pair the phone to the headset? Mine works great, not one person has ever had a complaint with me on mine and the evo.

Dont mean to revive this thread, but just wanted to say that I have the same issue with my two Evo's. Me and my GF have Evo's. When we talk with the Plantronics 975, the sound is horrible. Same headset on another phone is perfect. It is definately the Evo.
Odd part is it sounds like it is the noise cancling causing the issue. It she is quiet and a blert something out, i hear a slight eco from her side and then the noise starts. A few seconds later it quiets down and stops. Its like any noise (talking) that gets into the loops runs for a while before it cycles out. Every strange and very annoying.

i have the same issue but with nexus one... so the evo itself is probably not the cause...
any ideas about it? couldn't find a solution anywhere else....

don't buy this headset. buy a soundid headset. IT IS SUCH A BETTER ONE! however, do to stack issues that are built into our phones and software/hardware issues with the headset, it has all the issues you're claiming.

I have a plantronics backbeat 903+ they work perfectly on Sense Roms. AOSP, CM ROMs, you might as well tie two dog turds to a string and listen. Just my experience.

HBH-DS220?

Anyone here tried this new Sony-Ericsson Bluetooth Stereo Headset? Comments? Reviews? Reviews on the web?
yeah I tried it and still am!!!!
I bought the hbh-ds220 about a week ago and have had nothing but trouble.
Is a little temperamental connecting to my TYTN II and it not really clear how the buttons are supposed to work with things like voice dial, redial etc. If you just want it to play and pause music then its just about acceptable. The volume control is a bit naff... you press and hold the play button and it cycles through loud, louder, loudest, quiet, quieter, quitest. There's no visible way to tell what volume level you are on though so its a bit guess work.
The headphones are really poor by Sony standards. They are supposed to be mega bass but have barely any bass response at all.
The worst thing though is the in-call sound quality. It sounds like the person on the other end is talking underwater.
I have looked round the net to find a fix but found none. I can't be the only person having this trouble.
I love Sony products and only buy Sony. I wish I'd never laid ears on this though.
If anyone has any suggestons to improve the sound quality then I'd be grateful.
I bought a DS220 the other day and love it! It paired great with my HTC Touch Dual and I listen to music and take calls etc.
I dumped the SE earphones though and use my own ones.

I spoke too soon!
I am having problems with the phone dropping the connection the the headset after calls. I have to turn the headset off and then on again to reestablish the connection after every call.
it's been a while, but hey, what the heck:

you should try a new one like Nokia original, Jabra etc. I think these are better.
or you will have to take to care center.

I recently bought a Jabra 3030 for my Diamond. And it STINKS. I even went through two of them, thinking that the first was faulty/broken. Nope. They both had a loud background noise that ruined any type of sound quality, not to mention the electronic turn on/off of the bluetooth itself that poked a hole in your ear.
I replaced it with a DS-200 (similar to the DS-220, presumably) and its much, much better. The noise is far less and the turn on/off is barely noticable.
This is just my personal experience though, everyone else seem to praise the 3030 for its quality...

Motorola S9 - White noise at higher volumes

I've just bought a pair of Motorola S9 headphones and whilst overall I'm pleased with them I have noticed one thing. At higher volumes (on the headset volume) there is audible white noise in the background. It is noticable when the transmitting device begins transmitting audio as there is a second or so before the music starts where the headphones go from absolutely silent to a faint hiss. It's also noticable on when listening to quieter songs. I've tried 3 different A2DP transmitting devices thinking they might be the cause of it but in each case the noise was present.
I wonder if other Motorola S9 owners could share whether their sets suffer the same problem?
Neil
Hi problem here
I got an S9 but I can't use it with my O2 XDA Exec. Too much skipping and stuttering. Some one told me that I would need the Broadcomm BT Stack. Which device are you using with S9. The HT820 doesn't have any of the problems u mentioned.
Ciao
I'm primarily using them with an Orange branded HTC TytN running Schap's 4.0 WM6 ROM. Compared with the original WM5 ROM that the phone came with bluetooth audio works flawlessly from both Windows Media player & HTC's Audio Manager except for the slight background noise. I must emphasize that the noise is faint and usually not noticable until you crank the volume up to a high level on the S9s. I've also tried them with a Belkin USB bluetooth dongle and the Broadcom stack and and iTech USB bluetooth dongle and the Bluesoleil v5 stack. Same result for all of them.
I'm just trying to figure out if this is usual or if I have a problem with my pair.
Thanks
Neil
Motorola S9 sweat problems?????????
Hi all, I wanted to share with all outdoor fans my bad experience with the Motorola S9.
First of all, I am a 42K Marathon runner.
Second, I can't run without music I know, I'm weird
Third, I needed a BT headset that was offered as "Sweatproof"
Before you guys to start laughing, I don't sweat oceans of salty water from my ears! I'm just the average guy...
Today, I've busted my third headset in 2 Months! (All of them gently replaced by Motorola warranty)
They gave me a refund telling me that there was no solution for the Summer season, since people sweats more than usual... (WTF)
Any other good BT headset to reccomend?
BTW, the sound quality was similar to heaven using my HTC Touch.
Thanks!
Same Problem - NOT sweatproof
I can concur, just yesterday my S9 stopped working. I can no longer turn the volume up but all other buttons work. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone as it neither works very well as a phone or a long term workout option. I was happy with the sound and how light they are so i think motorola are on to a good thing but some more "road" testing is needed.

Same problem here. I've gone through 4 of them in a month and a half. It is by far one of the worse purchases ever. It doesn't matter if it is a 2 mile run or a 20 mile run. The buttons just stop working and it takes 15 days to get a turn around replacement. Don't get the S9 if you plan on using them as they say "for active users." I've just decided to only use mine around the office. Get a different product because these are totally NOT worth it!
I was going to buy a Motorola S9 product, but after reading these review, I guess i'll keep looking for another one.
Any recommendation guys? I'm looking for a lightweight sleek BT Stereo headset mainly for listening to music on my HTC P3600 and laptop , I don't care too much about quality of sound, instead what matters to me most is being comfortable and lightweight.
Anything in mind??
Thanks in advance.

I know it's not the most glamourous option, but I wear a headband to sop up the sweat from my head so it doesn't run into the headset. I actually do sweat buckets and without the headband I quickly ruined traditional headphones.

Problems with Plantronics 975 discovery

I've owned this BT earpiece with other HTC devices. Haven't had any problems with it. I also have used a 925 discovery with my EVO. Worked fine.
I was upgraded to 975 discovery by Best Buy. I always hear a buzzing noise in the background. Sometimes the audio quality gets scratchy or distorted. One time while using it, it sounded like I was on a horrible voip connection and i could hear only ever other word. I put it on speaker phone and the quality was perfect. I also own a Motorola S9-HD. I don't have any problems with it.
Does anyone else own this headset? I'm curious.... Are you having simliar issues?
I have this head set
make sure WiFi is OFF is you are using BT. I get what I think you are describing only when WiFi is on.
I have the same headset. I have the same symptoms when my body is in between the headset and phone. If there's a line of sight between them, the audio is perfect... I'm on my second 975 (lost the first one), and it still does it. I'm not sure if my phones bluetooth is messed up or the headset.
I have had this headset for a long time. I just switched to the EVO from the Iphone, and the 975 worked flawlessly on the Iphone. It SUCKS with the EVO so far. It will not stay paired. I can press the button to answer, but the no audio on the phone or BT. It will redial, but the audio comes out of the phone! Is there a better BT to use with the EVO?
Hi. Few weeks ago i bought the Motorola S305 and i never get the Stereo or "high quality" sound. My phone is Unrooted. I havent tried on another phone to check if the headphones are ok, but there are a lot of bad comments about the bluetooth on the Evo so i believe that maybe its the phone.

Same Bluetooth same issue. When I don't hear the buzz I sometimes think the call has dropped. Had the same noise with my palm pre. Must be the Bluetooth.

[Q] The best bluetooth headset for MT4G?

Can anybody suggest a good bluetooth headset for MT4G?
How is SE MW600? I would like to know if anyone could see the song title in the set and whether all the volume up, down, next etc are working fine.

you could always google search "SE MW600 review" and see what people say. And if you want end users try punching in "amazon SE MW600 review" and see what they are saying.
Personally i use an older Motorola ear bud that serves the purpose.

I Work At best buy and I'm using the Plantronics 975 its a great device very comfortable with great noise cancellation
plantronics 855 is a great headset. a2dp stereo bluetooth and a removable earpiece.
I've been using mine with a Jawbone Icon (Rogue) and I haven't had any issues. It's light, stylish and very functional.
I don't know if these are the "best" but I have the Motorola behind the neck ROKRs, and like them.

imho
Plantronics Voyager Pro +
Willing to bet you one dollar paypal that it's the best bluetooth you've ever owned.
Reasons:
Gel air filled custom ear fittings *these actually screw on too , very impressive
long mic boom (so people can actually hear you)
not one person to date has said I sound like sh*t (FINALLY)
a2dp support
status updates by pressing power button (announces battery time remaining)
press and hold outer button, it calls a toll free number that you can configure on a website to hookup with your e-mail, it reads rss feeds, news.
I also work for t-mobile and I've used bluetooth headsets ranging from 29.99 to 199.99, some of them I thought were amazing (motorola backbeats) but the problem always came down to whoever I was talking on the phone saying
"dude are you on bluetoooth?"
me: yes
"you sound like sh*t"
me: YARGGGGG HOW MUCH MONEY DO I HAVE TO SPEND TO SOUND DECENT
Many beg to differ, but I've owned the same pair of rocketfish headsets for almost two years now...very good to me with many sweaty head days at the gym.

I know this is a late reply but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on the topic.
I was looking for something to listen to music while at work (desk job), working out, etc.
I ended up buying the Motorola S305 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BH3I9U)
I have had these now since February and I am extremely happy with them.
PROS
Comfortable to wear
Decent sound quality
Easy to use controls
Phone headset is has good call quality. Others can hear me as if i'm on the handset
Micro USB charger, same as phone
low cost
CONS
Foam earpieces soak up sweat
no noise cancellation
Overall, for $35.00, you can't go wrong!
Plantronics seems to be the winner. I have both 925 and 975. Both are optimal and work fantastically.
Now my 925 is paired with my HD2, and the 975 with MT4G.
Are any of these recommended for both phone calls and for working out (sweat resistant)? I'm just mainly looking for headphones for working out minus the dang cord. Also if I get a phone call when I'm working out or shooting basketball, I wanna be able to answer without stopping.

bump... anyone have an opinion? Just waitin to buy one for some input from people who I actually trust lol
I've owned the Plantronics BackBeat 906 for almost a year and have had mixed results with both a G1 and a MT4G.
It can be so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing it. But sometimes the earbuds are loose, mostly when worn under bicycle helmet straps. Because it's loose, I can't hear music very well.
Audio sounds great. Convenient controls. Haven't figured out how to skip a song on Pandora or a podcast on Listen though. Clicking play sometimes starts a saved voicemail rather than Google Listen or Pandora. I'm not sure how to define the "default" media app in Android.
Paring is hit-or-miss. Often it pairs with just the phone audio and not the media audio. This happened more on the T-Mobile ROM than it does on Cyanogenmod 7, but still happens. The solution is a cumbersome opening of the BT settings, long-press the device, un-check and then re-check Media Audio.
Reception is good if the phone is within 20-30 feet (the advertised range.) Reception is horrible if the phone is in a pocket. I have a backpack with a very high pocket and that usually works, unless I turn my head to the left. It is VERY annoying.
Here's what I sent to Panasonic:
I own a G1 Android-powered phone and about 50% of the time when I turn on my BackBeat 906 it syncs with the phone audio, but not the media. Is there some trick to get it to sync with both?
Also, the reception is so poor that when the phone is in my pocket the audio drops out completely. I am tall, but much less than 30' tall.

Their response:
Please try a reset...press and hold the power button on the headphones....and while you are doing that, please connect the charger to the Backbeats until you see a blue or red solid light and then release the button.....let it charge for an extra 30 seconds and then try to use them
Also, delete the headset from your cell phone's list of paired devices. Once deleted, make sure to power your phone completely off. Then power it back on. (This will reset the Bluetooth stack in the BT software on the phone). Then re-pair the headset with your phone.
If this does not fix your issue, my suggestion is to try pairing the headset to another cell phone, if possible. If the issue continues with the second phone, you will need to replace the headset. If your headset connects properly to the second phone, then the problem may be with the first phone rather than the headset.

...did not help. I still struggle with piss-poor reception when the phone is in a pocket.
well what frickin good is a bluetooth headphone set if you can't have the phone in your pocket lol
Yes Rosebud1, it is extremely frustrating! It's fine sitting on a desk, but for cycling, running, or walking I would not recommend this headset.
Thanks for the reply. What horrible customer service too!!
Yeah, it was a pretty useless response. I suspect it's just a horrid design flaw that they know they can't fix, so sending the customer on a wild goose-chase delays the inevitable.
U should check out the jabra clipper. I use it when I work out n its awesome

so basically... it seems like no one has found a really good set for a decent price
Under a motorcycle helmet
I am looking for a bluetooth headset that will fix and work well under my motorcycle helmet. Any recommendations?

[Q] Bluetooth headset issues.

I have found several custom roms I really like, but, I am a truck owner operator and have to use a headset. Every rom I've used has had the same bluetooth issue. Some times when answering a call they can't hear me for up to 10 seconds. Or while in a conversation they say all of a sudden I sound whacked out. Turning bluetooth headset in phone app off and back on resolves the issue temporarily. Any ideas, I dont want to have to be stuck on stock rom. I really appreciate the time that developers put into there custom roms.
It might be your bluetooth headset. I always wear my headset and have zero issues, (plantronics marque 2, which I love) even on aosp roms. Im currently on digiblurs rom, but have been bouncing around. slimkat and gummy I can confirm works with a headset. Hope it helps.

My headset is a Plantronics Legend altho had same issue with Voyager. The issue has followed me from my Evo 3D. I have tried Slimkat and same issue. Tried clearing cashe in bluetooth sharing. Hoping the right person will have the magic something....
If you had the same issue on another phone, then its most likely your headset. Go buy a plantronics marque 2 headset. See if your problem is gone, if not, get your money back for the headset. This is the headset I have, and its much better than my jawbone era (version 1)

Hi, does the marque 2 do voice commands and speak caller id (persons name) in your ear? AND have great sound quality?
I have the jawbone extreme2. it does all that, but sound quality sucks.
Thx!
The jawbone extreme 2 had awesome features, but I agree the sound quality was terrible. The Marque 2 has EXCELLENT sound quality in my opinion. Ive have tried a ton of BT headsets, and this one competes with the best of them, a big improvement over the marque 1. You can use voice search, I use an app called bluetooth launch, which allows any app to open with a long press of the button, works great with google now. Caller ID does not work for me, but the sound quality, excellent battery life, fast charging, reliability, say "ANSWER OR IGNORE" when a call comes in, comfort, and price point makes that a small sacrifice to me. Give it a shot, if you dont like it you can always get your money back.amazon currently has it on sale for 37.09, which best buy will price match, avoiding shipping time. Yes, its"shipped and sold by Amazon"
