[Q] How to re-enable the "S" start up animation on my GALAXY S? - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

Hi guys,
I recently rooted my Galaxy S (JF5) and installed ROM Manager & applied lag fixes, I managed to brick it and somewhere along the line when I got the phone working again, the "S" start up animation disappeared when I switch on my phone, all it displays is the Samsung Galaxy S GTi9000, then screen went dark until it reappears with slide to unlock screen and then asking for SIM pin code.
Any ideas why this happens? I tried factory resetting it but doesn't solve the problem, any help would be appreciated please?

well can't really help but can say the exact same thing is happening to me. I mean it does the shutdown animation but no longer does the startup animation.
Just stays on the static Galaxy S, Samsung white text on black background and then plays the boot up sound but no animation and then goes to the "slide to unlock" screen.
Really rather strange, i mean its not harming me in anyway as the phone works like a dream just no animation, but i do kind of miss it and also it always scares me that my phone is just frozen/looping when it stays on that first galaxy s screen for a while lol.

Why do you even care if its not there. The reason is because you installed lag fix. It moved it

Because it looks nice most likely lol, anyway of putting a custom boot animation in its place?

Pro boot changer from market sounds right but have no idea where to get the anims from.

same thing happened to me...
but i think there is a way to get it back. We just need someone who has got the default bootanimation and is kind enough to make a back up using Boot Animation Backup from the Market ( file wil be placed on your sd card) and then just upload it on forum

If you grab my one click lag fix app off the market, it has an option to restore the default boot logo.
EDIT: If you just want the file, it is the 'playlogosnow' file that you can find here:
http://code.google.com/p/oclf/source/browse/#svn/trunk/QuickFixLagFix/res/raw

were should i move the file (is it /system/media ?) and how should i name that playlogosnow file?

May have found the file under sdcard/ase/resources/playlogo1, is this the right one? If so where should I move this to?

if done the lag fix 2.2 using the old way (via pc) how should i go about restoring this boot logo then?
*ADDITION* Decide to "unlagfix" via the way i lag fixed it (using pc) caused me a bootloop. Sigh... had to flash again and decided to re-partition everything. need to now install everything again, least i got my animation back hahaha. Always look on the bright side huh?

Easiest way would be to install the app off the market, then in the menu select 'restore boot logo'
Other than that, the boot logo should be here if you have no lag fix/start scripts:
/system/bin/playlogos1
or here if you have a lag fix or similar:
/system/bin/playlogosnow
And make sure that it has execute permissions.

Yep... although depending on what lagfix you are using, copying the file to /system/bin/playlogosnow should work.
I guess I should make my restore boot logo thing a bit smarter to pick that up and do it for you... hmm..

hi folks,
i have rooted and lagfixed my I9000 and JPC Firmware...
it works fine (quadrant means ~1950 -at JM1 it was > 2100 , but it's okay for now-),
but i miss the bootanimation!!!
i tried the "Restore Boot Animation" option, but it only says:
"You appear to have a lagfix installed! Replacing the bootlogo in this case could cause your deice become un-bootable. (free space on /data matches/data/data)"
Is there no chance to get the beloved bootanimation back?
Thx for answering
michael
PS: if there is a chance, i need a detailed "step-by-step"-instuction because i am a poor android beginner :-( but i want to give my best and try to learn ;-)

[Q] How do I keep Sense from being shutdown due to OOM

Ever since I received the upgrade to gingerbread (first 4.06 and now 4.08), Sense will get shut down when I am in other applications. Then when I hit the home button I get the white "HTC" screen and then sense has to start up and reload all my home screens and widgets. It typically happens when I use the browser but has sometimes happens when in other applications.
Here are the things I've tried to keep this from happening:
* reducing the number of things on my home screens
* removed all widgets to try and reduce the memory footprint
* factory reset/cleared dalvik cache
* renice <htc.com.launcher process> -20
* installed Auto memory manager (AMM) and set it to "aggressive" mode
* using AMM reset the priority of "HTC Sense" from 6 down to 2 and specified "always keep alive" but the kernel seems to just reset the priority.
What's really annoying is when I look at the list of processes, things like facebook and weatherbug have a higher (meaning lower number) priority than Sense. Does anyone have any idea how to force Sense to be given priority over other apps so it can stop from being shut down?

with any OTA its recommended to do a factory reset. did you do this? its a pain to loss all your data but it might fix your problems.
sorry i didnt have my morning coffee yet.... If you wiped dalvik then that means you have root. your phone is not shutting down. something is killing rosie (the sense launcher.) and that why the white HTC splash screen comes up again. What rom are you runing? i know its the OTA but is it the RUU or one of the devs roms based off RUU??

If you read his entire post you would know he did a factory reset.
My best guess is to go back to stock sense before the last ota (by rooting and flashing or whatever way you wish..sbf or whatever) then download the ota on your computer and try manually updating your phone..if that doesn't work then I don't know

Most recently I am running the stock 4.08 version starting with applying the 4.06 RUU and then applying the 4.06 to 4.08 update file. I do have root and really use it for monitoring/managing the /data/data partition.

There's no risk of brick with v6. It just tweaked a couple parts of the kernel.

You'll just want to make sure you have busybox 1.18.2 installed, then run the script with Script Manager, and you'll want to select either 6 or 7 (I use option 7), then reboot. It won't brick your phone, but you can always run a nandroid backup to have something to fall back to.

Is this the correct script manager app: https://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager ?
Noob question, how do I check which version of busybox I have installed. I found one in TitaniumBackup that is 1.18.14 but that looks like it is local to TitaniumBackup. I did find "toolbox" in /system/bin which looks like the stock rom's version of busybox. Is this what I should be looking at or is busybox installed somewhere else?

Yes, that's the app.
Download this app as well: Busybox Installer
It'll tell you what version you have (if you have it), then you can select what version you want to install. No need to adjust where it installs, just leave that at the default, just select version 1.18.2, then hit Install.
I read through the script just to get a sense (no pun intended) of what it was doing and then installed Busybox 1.18.2 and applied setting 11 "Hard to kill launcher" from the script. I've done a bunch of browsing to sites that normally caused Sense to get shut down and so far so good.
I initially installed busybox with symlinks and it the script threw a ton of errors so I reinstalled with symlinks to fix that.
Thanks for all the help. For completeness, here is a link to V6 Supercharger so all the links are in this one thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 .
One thing I did have to change because I am running Sense and not a stock android launcher is the name of the launcher process itself.
On line 64, I changed this "pidof com.android.launcher" to this "pidof com.htc.launcher"
will the V6 script it just tells the android memory system to not reclaim memory from the launcher app so it stays on no matter what happens. only way to kill it is to go to settings and FC the launcher. also with the script you cant brick the phone because its not ran till after the phone boots. The term brick means : that the phone will not boot at all. you just have a phone that does nothing at all not even turn on. You can soft brick the phone meaning the software will not boot. all you need to do is make a backup before installing the script and you will always have a way back if anything happens.
for me i run the beta V6 script option under -=*512HP*=- which is more of a balanced one with bullet prof launcher and its is wonderful. but each phone is different so just try them out and see what works for you.

I did "soft" brick the phone recently when I deleted build.prop and forgot to put a new one in it's place before I rebooted. Had to use adb to access the phone to restore build.prop. I can tell you that was a nervous few minutes after I realized what I had done. Definitely not a recommended activity.

[Q] Jellybean 4.2.1 Power button lag?

Hello everyone
There is a small problem with android 4.2 JB and its pretty annoying IMO. For some reason, when I press the power button, whether its turning the screen on or off, there is a slight delay between the button being pushed and the phone actually doing what its supposed to do. Is it just my phone or is anyone else having it? When I switched back to 4.1, the problem was gone. Is there a way I can fix this issue?
Thanks!

I have the same issue
Me too.. is it normal or what?
It's not the phone. The 4.2 crt animation was changed to look better on LCD screens. The new speed seems to lag. Turning it off gets rid of the issue.
How to switch it off? Can't find any separate option in settings or developer options. All other animations in developer options are off already.
I have that lag also since 4.2

I also want to know how to switch it off ... Annoying :/
I have that issue too and lime others I want to get rid of it. How can i switch that crt animation OFF?
A build.prop or local.prop edit should get rid of the CRT animation. debug.sf.electron_frames=1
The default is 24 if you want to go back.
Could you be more specific please? What app should we use? How exactly I can edit that file? Where I can find it? Is it in stock roms?

It is in all ROMs, you will have to be rooted to edit it.
local.prop may not exist by default, it would be in /data
build.prop will exist though, it is in /system
via adb something like this should work:
Code:
[I]adb remount
adb shell
cd /system
echo "[I]debug.sf.electron_frames=1[/I]" > build.prop
reboot[/I]
^ that mounts system as r/w
enters shell
changes current directory to /system
sends the extra line to build.prop
then I assume a reboot would be necessary to see the change
It can also be done via terminal emulator, or a file explorer with root permissions. If you want to edit build.prop you will have to mount /system as r/w prior to making any edits to it.
well, this is something thank you verry much!

[MOD][BOOT ANIMATION] Blue Oneplus boot animation for Oneplus 6T

Hello everyone,
I previously had the Oneplus 3 and I upgraded to the 6T. But from the OP3 I had the blue Oneplus Colette boot animation. I haven't found a viable replacement for my 6T. So I have done it myself. I modified the boot animation to a medium blue (#0073ff). I hope you guys enjoy it.
I attached a gif of the boot animation below.
Installation Method:
This process requires root
If you have magisk installed
Go into magisk manager, magisk modules
Install from storage
Choose zip and flash
Reboot and enjoy!
Any feedback is welcome
Important
The boot animation has the old OnePlus logo. I don't have the 8/ 8 Pro, so I can't make one with the new logo
This is no longer the case. I have both boot animations with the old and new OnePlus logo.
Don't extract the bootanimation.zip to change the desc.txt file! And install that as the new bootanimation! IT WON'T WORK! Best way to change the position of the boot animation is in the Issues section
Issues
If you got into any issues, just remove the magisk module.
If the position is wrong... Sorry for that as the desc/ positioning is set for the OP6T.
No worries tho as you can fix it yourself!
Uninstall the magisk module!
And as u have ROOT, go and find your original bootanimation.
Copy and it to back it up into your internal storage and rename it with something like original_bootanimation.zip
Go into the .zip file, open the desc.txt, find what are the numbers on the first line! Take a note of it!
Then reinstall the magisk module
After rebooting, install the Jrummy bootanimation app (Bootanimations for superuser) from the play store
Then go into manage current bootanimation and tweak the bootanimation to same the numbers as your original bootanimation first line in the desc.txt
Reboot and check.
If it went well then well done! U can stop here or continue. Up to you
The new issues is that u should back up and tweak the magisk module, so that u got a copy of that bootanimation with that position and don't have to keep tweaking the bootanimation every time u switch to a ROM or phone.
So, go into system and find the new bootanimation (still bootanimation.zip)
Copy and paste to internal storage. Because u renamed the original bootanimation zip file, both zip files should be there and not replaced.
Then extract the boot animation magisk module
Go into system -> media
Delete that bootanimation.zip file and copy + paste the one u just copied into internal storage
Then go back till u have the module files and folders
Select all and compress/archive them into a zip file
Take a copy and backup that zip file! You now made ur own magisk module
Now uninstall the bootanimation magisk module in magisk manager
Reboot system and then install the magisk module u made
Done, u got your own magisk module and can keep reusing it with the exact position u want
If you're having issues installing both the magisk module and the bootanimation .zip files.
The is a last resort, which is to install Boot Animations for Superuser app from the play store and it does need root, here's the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
Before going through with this way of installation, make sure u have a copy of the desc.txt files/values as we need them later on.
Open the app
Press the plus symbol
Find the bootanimation.zip file u want to install
Press install
Once it has installed
Go back to the home menu of the app
Press plus symbol
Choose manage current animation
Using the saved copy of the desc.txt file, open the file
Now change the width and height (only one of them as the other changes accordingly) to match the values in the desc.txt file
Press apply
Now reboot to check the bootanimation looks right
Done, you now got your new bootanimation with the exact width and height
You can go back and change the FPS, but idk if it'll work correctly. Also, u can go and find this modified bootanimation .zip file and use it for your own magisk module!
Updates
27/1/21 I have created a Magisk module for this and it works great in my experience
29/09/21 I have previously got the new OP bootanimation for OOS 11 and it has the new OP logo. I did tweak it with the blue and have successfully made a magisk module for it. It works perfectly! Ps. the desc/prefs are set for the OP6T!
I have also renamed the files and put [MAGISK], to make it obvs that these are magisk modules and people don't flash the actual boot animation!
I have now attached magisk modules and just bootanimation zip files for:
Stock OP boot animation with old + new OP logo
OP boot animation in NASA colours (only old OP logo)
Blue OP bootanimation with old + new OP logo
13/10/21 I have added a additional method in issues section for users who've been unable to install the bootanimation for both magisk module and manually changing it in system/media
Enjoy
Thanks allot for the reminder, I completely forgot I bought jrummys rom toolbox years ago, worked fantastic for both fonts and boot animation.

I'm not sure what look you're going for, but I made a sample before I carry on. Is this the look u want?

I have been continuing the project. But I have to reassure you that this will take time as this is for free and I am using my free time to do this. I have another question. Because you want the white blue do you want that for the OnePlus logo as well? I was thinking of using the red and blue you given to make it look more like the NASA logo. As that is your theme. But it will be quite weird during boot, where the Oneplus logo is white, then it changes to blue and red suddenly for the boot animation. Let me know if you want this change, otherwise, I'll just keep it white. But that will be weird as well as the white transitions to blue
Here's my idea. Reply pls

No. You just follow the method at the start of the thread. I said I tried, but it didn't work. The zip only contains the bootanimation
I can't find the blue bootanimation :/ only the original is attached somehow. Can you re-upload it?

Sorry about that. The blue animation is added now, but its the old oneplus boot animation with the old logo which would look weird if your using it on newer devices like OP8/8 Pro

I stumbled across this thread while hunting for a simple livewire-like boot animation for oneplus 6t. I never found one, but I gotta say man, you did great with that oneplus logo.

Question boot animations?

has anyone messed with or changed their boot animation? looking to change mine to something but wasnt sure where to start
I don't think there's much happening, at least when asked differently before:
Any cool boot animations out there?
I'm wondering if there's a nice animation to replace the ugly warning on a rooted device?

Maybe a custom ROM or Magisk module has something...

what files did you replace?

I only tried flashing through magisk. I've tried renaming orig boot animation.zip and placing the new one in there but that was also unsuccessful

yeah, it looks like flashing through magisk might be the only way, for some reason you cant change the root directory files manually, so i guess i gotta figure out how to make a magisk module
Push it thru fastboot is probably the way to do it.

do you know of a guide on how to do that?
Boot Animations for Superuser - Apps on Google Play
Install custom boot animations (loading animation) on your rooted Android device
play.google.com
This works, most 1440p & above work
Also gif to boot animation also works well

Downloaded and wanted to make a backup of my stock bootanimation but the backup function doesn't seem to work. Any hints?
Edit: Figured it out, needed to browse to root/product/media for installation location and give the app root access. Gonna give it a shot now.
Edit 2: was able to make a backup but app is unable to install new bootanimation.zip no specifics
