For Bell I9000M users - Samsung Canada Facebook Page To Comment On 3 Button Issue - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

I encourage anyone concerned about the availability of the 3 button download mode, or other issues, to comment on the Samsung Facebook page. I already posted a comment and got a response I find somewhat disturbing... maybe there is strength in numbers.
http://www.facebook.com/samsungmobi...omment#!/samsungmobilecanada?v=wall&ref=notif

Make sure he doesn't duck the question. 3 button means that experienced end users can actually fix a bad flash (lol @ Kies) without having to lose their phone for a month (Allgamer is at the 3 week mark now after sending his phone in).

Hopefully they will provide an answer. I have since returned mine back to Future Shop. I've tried 4 other phones hoping to be able to do an exchange, but all of them had 3 button recovery disabled. If they release a fix for this I will buy the phone in an instant.

I saw your post over there...
Exactly what I figured their response would be... I for one am not holding my breath for an update through Samsung to enable 3 button recovery.
They messed though by inexplicably letting some through with it enabled...Makes it hard to justify why some have it and some don't... If anything, expect an update to disable it on the ones that have it enabled!
I hope otherwise, but in all seriousness, the majority of users will likely never have to use recovery and the average user out there is not an xda-developpers member. Yes, Samsung will have to deal with bricks but probably in their mind, they are making it slightly harder to do 'unauthorized' stuff.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. No recovery mode, no sale.

Meh, I am not going that far. Recovery mode is a nice to have but it is not going to deprive me of the best phone on the market by miles (there is not a phone that is going to be better than the 3GS for at least 6 months or more, nothing is in the pipeline that comes close)

Until you accidentally brick it, then you are paying $60 a month while it goes off to get fixed. Yes, it's awesome hardware, but without 3 button, it's not worth it to me. I'm also stubborn enough to demand a resolution to this issue before forking out the money a 2nd time

I've left a comment of the Facebook page. Let's hope someone hears something. Going back to using my iPhone has killed me.

wow samsung come on your slacking
Samsung Mobile Canada Hi Jason. 3 button download mode is for internal firmware functions and is not recommended to end-users. It’s typically used by technicians to service malfunctioning phones. Modifying the internal firmware on a mobile phone device may void the warranty. What function you are trying to do? Maybe we can help find another way. Feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-SAMSUNG and we'll see how we can help. Thank
sounds like they could fix it but might not if your dumb enough to flash your bell sgs and have the 3 button combo disabled best of luck to you

haha sumsung cant ignore facebook
ive taken back 6 phones 600x6 is 3600 worth of phones lol and they all didnt have recovery so i took them back best buys 100% satisfaction guarantee gotta love it

If I am unlucky enough to brick it (which, despite my rants, is pretty hard to actually do in practice.... as long as you are flashing with a stable laptop it is not going to brick), then I'll get it replaced under warranty. The odds of me flashing it again after Froyo is out are near zero.
See, unlike WinMo, you don't have to re-flash Android to customize it, nearly everything on the phone can be customized in-line. All the stuff Cyogen etc. are doing can be done without flashing the phone, so you don't have to worry about bricking it
I learned from my years with my HTC dev. that re-flashing every few weeks is a huge pain in the butt, and I don't plan on doing that again with this phone.

Be careful, if you post too many things on the wall, they will just get frustrated and get Facebook to remove all the posts. You can do that with paid Facebook pages like this.

Galaxy Nexus - flawed by bad NAND!!! \data partition corruption issue

Issue: \data partititon become corrupt for no obvious reason.
Manifests itself through: Freezes followed eventually by (endless) reboots
When: Randomly when you install new apps (may be every day as it can happen only every other week/month), or setting up apps (like Twitter, mail, etc)
Temporary solution: Re-flash Samsung FW but lose ALL YOUR DATA. Attention: CWM restore will not fix the problem!
---- Here goes a link to the fabulous mskip's tutorial, you will find here everything you need to get it back up temporarily
I experienced this in 401, 402, 403 and 404, some were expecting better data integrity in 404... I confirm this is not the case
I would not go as far as saying that this is 100% the reason, but it looks like the NAND quality is craaaaaap! There is no external SD card, Android should be able to do a perfect job now at handling info and preserving quality of data.
I will contact Samsung and ask for a refund (if at all possible)... Disgusting thing to put such a piece of s''t on the market without proper testing and call it "flagship/pure Google experience". This is not an isolated issue, it happens to at least half of the people around and the others may have not seen it yet (it all depends on how often you manipulate data on the phone)...
Any advice, I am inetersted, have tried pretty much everything so far and did not solve the problem...

Your first post came across as a hysterical rant - this is the first I've heard of the problem so it's not affecting many phones, and ultimately Samsung are going to have the occasional dodgy NAND chip. Sounds like you got one.
If you'd had several phones and they'd all exhibited this problem you'd be right to be peeved, but it simply sounds like you've been unlucky and are pissed off about it. Have you even discussed it with Samsung's tech support or taken it back to the shop you bought it from?
And accusing an XDA recognised developer of trolling is not a great start to your time here.
I've not heard of other people having this problem with the Gnex? Who are these other people having this same problem? Maybe speak with them and see if a replacement phone might solve the problem. I really hope you can get this fixed and not give up on such a great platform.

Respect for your dev background (haven't used any of your ROMs yet), in all fairness I'm far less impressed with your communication skills... I must agree though, my message may have come across as too abrupt and you're right again, I am going to sort it out with Samsung...
Did not mean to get people horrified, rather to blow the whistle on a worrying and annoying bug and smth people may consider if they come across or consider a purchase.
For having worked in the mobile comm semiconductors space for years, I know just what sets apart a serious company from a me-too profile. Surprised to see Samsung having this king of issues. Normally they are ironed out easily though SW regression tests and HW stress processes (at least at serious OEMs).
I will let one of the moderators judge if my crime is so serious, your ego will survive, I'm sure I will come back when/if issue solved (or in good progress).
yeah, mine is fine. If it was a widespread problem I would back your corner, but I seems rather isolated. Rather then cause mass hysteria I would say you need to return your handset

This happened to mine. But only once.
Quite frustrating, as my phone is my alarm clock and it was bootlooping when I needed to go to sleep!
However, a reflash of the 4.0.2 stock images sorted it out, and no problems since. I'm pretty sure I caused it by pulling out the battery at some sensitive point in a reboot or something.
If this happens to you frequently, then you need to exchange your phone.
Also, I think this could be a pretty good resource as opposed to a rant if you put your mind to it. I'm not a developer, but I'm also not a total n00b, and it took me a little while to figure out how to fix the problem, when I had it. I'm sure there are people out there who would appreciate a guide.
In this thread, op is going through that time of the month, when was his own modification back fires in his face, his explosive emotions reek havoc on an online forum.
If you want to see a device with bad nand memory, see the HTC Desire S forum .
Also the reboots and freezes I used to experience on my device were application related. Device hasn't frozen, nor rebooted in about *looks at up time* .. 27 days .

... I was actually referring to a poll in another thread (link in this thread) concluding that half of the people who answered have experienced freezes and reboots... it may be biased somewhat by the fact that people who experienced the issue are more likely to vote than those who didn't... maybe an overstatement from me.
Get the odd reboot (Chrome seems to provoke, strangely) but zero data corruption in 3+ months of heavy use. (4.0.3 AOKP)
Sorry, no endemic fault that I can see here (from reading these forums) and if I were you I'd be looking for a warranty replacement. Refund will depend on your location and supplier and duration of ownership.

First I heard about this too. I've flashed tons of roms and mods and constantly installing uninstalling apps.
The GNex has been anything but non-stable. I think I've had to pull the battery once or twice since ownership. Never heard anyone complain about randomly losing all their data... especially not daily. Perhaps on a bad flash in CWM.
Maybe you should look into a super wipe that completely erases everything, deletes the partition tables and recreates everything from scratch. Maybe it'll help but it honestly sounds defective.

Thanks Player911... Interesting idea, was thinking as well to do a total wipe and sort of a sector-by-sector reformat, but could not find a way of doing it. Is there any tool that would allow me to do it? Maybe this will isolate bad sectors...
Will check shortly with Samsung folks, thanks mate! (what slows me down is the fact that I'm currently travelling to the US and the guarantee is only European and it's Sunday= hotline is closed in Europe).

Evo 4g lte

I live in west Michigan and am waiting for the LTE system to be up and runningg to get my new phone after getting burned on the WiMax deal. I have become a huge fan of rooting since i did it on my evo earlier this year. I started thinking earlier today...
i wonder how long it will be before we can root the new evo 4g lte... I am not waiting to root this one, it will be done as soon as I can. I waited over a year to do my OG evo and i love the customization.

The new bootloaders are unlockable through HTC dev. So we will be able to unlock, but they are limited as they cannot mount usb in recovery.

They will find a way to s-off after 3-4 months. They found a crazy way to get s-off on the htc rezound using a wire and touching two pins on the back of the phone when the rooting software says to. I would like to know who figured that out. Amazing

I believe that NOTHING is impossible... no matter how hard phone manufacturers try to "screw" us and keep us from rooting, some dev will find a way to root/hack it. Im not eligible for my upgrade til October so that'll give them time to work it out.
One of the biggest factors for me is the non-removable battery.... I feel like that is my failsafe whenever the phone isnt responding. There better be a hot restart like holding the home and power putton like on the iPhone

There is. Plus there's a button combo to shut off the phone entirely, allowing you to theoretically either turn back on, or boot into recovery if something is really wrong. I think I heard you have to hold down the power button for like ten seconds straight or something like that. No worries, HTC wasn't THAT stupid.
But yes, I am of the belief that we will have our s-off eventually, and honestly, I don't need it for a while. I'm going to enjoy my new product stock, and I don't think I'll miss my flashing at all - that's how awesome this phone appears to perform. Now, down the road (6 to 12 months) when things are getting old and I want some tweaks, sure. But I bet by then, given the massive amount of popularity this phone will garner, I feel safe assuming someone will find a way around the issues.
As a side note, WOW to that story about the Rezound! That's incredible! Who decided once to just stick pins in their phone and see if that works??

[Q] !!! Power Trouble !!!

I have a major problem with the Power for my Epic. It is not rooted or anything fancy. The charging port is broken (yes, its all kaboom). I can only charge the phone by taking out the battery, charge the battery with a charger (available at Radio Shack for only $40!) and put it back in. The problem is...the phone won't turn on! I had to declare war yesterday until I finally forced Google to provide an answer which was to remove the battery, hold the Power button for 15 seconds, put the battery back in and turn it on. Hallelujah! It worked! Then later into half of the day, the battery was low, so I properly turned off the phone in order to remove the battery to charge it. And now the phone will not, I repeat, will not power back on under my command!!! I have tried and tried everything, alternating different ways and amount of seconds of waiting and holding the Power button....nothing! What can I do? I came across mentions of the Hard Reset button under the battery cover. I can't find it. Where is it? Also, is there any other way to make this work? I have to fight this every time I am done charging the battery. No, I repeat, it is not the battery since it works in another phone. It is the phone. Please help me! This is pushing me on the verge of *sighs* fatal suicide! Ahhhh Ahhhhhhhh AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

How old is the phone & do you have TEP?
Sounds like you need to take it to the Sprint store for replacement.
If you have TEP & it is over 1 yr old then it will cost $100.00 to replace it.
As far as the reset button......that's a myth.....some people have claimed to have it, but money has been offered for a picture of the magic button & no one has produced even one picture of the magic reset button (that I am aware of)......most of the Dev's on here will tell you the button is only a myth.......
It might be a year or a little less. I don't have TEP. The phone is all I have and I would rather not replace it, cuz Samsung doesn't know how to increase the 512mb to 1gb of RAM, so a lot of apps are making the phone freeze cuz RAM is always maxed out. I'm thinking about getting the blue S3, but really want to use the phone until then. I dunno why it won't power back on. I managed to get it to work once then it just cries cuz I take battery out.
I would suggest some options that require rooting & flashing a custom ROM to make the phone work as it should. But with a damaged USB connector on the phone (as I understood you to say you had) you cannot flash anything. There is no way of increasing the RAM in the phone, but the internal storage can be increased to alomst 700MB by converting to MTD. I have been running CleanGB MTD (slightly overclocked) for a long while now & this phone continues to amaze me. It handles everything I throw at it without any problems. It multi tasks great. Stock it may not be as good, but our Dev's here do a great job & have turned this phone into a great device. The RAM issue has not been a problem for me yet & I push this thing to do way more than it is supposed to do.
If it is less than a year old then the replacement should be $35.00 think. It's a handling fee Sprint charges with no TEP for warranty replacements. Sounds like you don't have an upgrade coming yet either.
Hopefully one of these other guys will have some insite into how to help this situation, but I am not sure what to do with a bad usb port.
monke30butt, will you help me one-on-one through PM or Messenger if I were to decide on replacing for another Epic? I really love the phone, just not happy with the RAM. If what you said is true, then I am interested in what you did on your Epic, so I can do the same. I don't do much, but I have themes, locker, launcher, other customs that takes up RAM. If you could help me, I would be willing to exchange for a new Epic. If you can't, I could try to risk the S3. The Epic is so glorious with the camera quality (compared to mom's phone making green look yellowish in aquariums), that Epic makes the green so deeply dark and lushy.
And I wonder how to add a stabilization feature to the camera's video?
If you need help, I can try to lend a hand.
For my current setup: All I did was root the phone, flash Clean GB MTD (The Peoples ROM is said to be good too), adjusted CPU speed with SetCPU & adjusted SD cache size to make the best use out of the class 10 memory card I installed (it flys now!!!). I didn't do anything special. The Dev's that cook up the ROM'S, mods, & various fixes should get ALL of the credit for the improvements of how the phone works. I just used what they posted.
They say the CM roms are very good too, but I have not personally tried them yet. Trying to decide between TPR next or CM7 w/crespo modem.
Yes, I've rooted this phone before and well, I don't know how I was able to do it, but I got it rooted, which is amazing for a retard like me. It was so kool. I can't remember what ROM I used and I got heavy help thru a chat on here and some people helped thru texting, etc. Then later, I had problems and it was hard for me to solve and accept updates and many things, so I went back to stock and I don't remember how I did that. Everything you said that you used are way different than what I used, so I guess those were developed way after the time I was into rooting and those wasn't available. At the end, when I went back to stock, the Epic place was slowing down and people were moving on, but surprised me to see some activity on here, especially from ya, so thanks. I will consider what I want, exchange or get S3. Another reason why I went back to stock was that with GO DEV Launcher EX, there was a glorious blue theme that was so perfect that it was everything that I wanted. When I rooted, I wanted to do that, cuz I wanted a nice theme for locker, text message, contact, etc, but I found out that GO made it possible for all of that without rooting, so it made it so much easier for a lil retard like me, but I do miss the plentiful of RAM and removal of Sprint's junk including that stupid Optimizer, etc.
Well, that explains your RAM problems. The GO products are nice, but they eat your resources.
Go to the development section and go to the rooting sticky. Watch QBKing's video a couple times. Even my 2 year old could do it after watching that.

Yeah. GO are very devious. I've always wanted to start Wake Up GO DEVils website to force them to listen and change. One example, in the Dialer, they took away the ability for us to dial a number and select Text. The only big button available down there is Call, which is highly offensive to thousands of deaf customers. Hundreds of emails, GO DEVils continued to ignore. Plus, they do random "air push" (I think is whats the name) notification ads and adding icon ads. Want to know the shocking thing? Mine are free (maybe one was paid, I dunno), but majority of what I downloaded and used are free. Not once do I get any junky ads. Okay....how about mom? Tons of ads!!! She and I use the same thing other than hers are pink theme (which are a paid feature) and those are loaded with ads. Did the GO DEVils ever listen once to correct this and behave? Never!
Lol that's go for ya... if you decide to stick with the epic and want to root it... you can pm me for help or hit me up on gtalk... I am pretty active on here and can walk you through it... gtalk is xda username at gmail.com....

It looks like Radio Shack is trying to scam people. Their $99 price is for new account only and it doesn't include new line, either, that I had done for my Epic. The new line price is $199. So, I am leaning toward replacing the Epic with another Epic. However, I do need to know something. GS3 have Stabilization for the pix/vidz, which is something that I seriously need since I always do pix and vidz with my smartphone. Epic does not have that. Is this a hardware or software feature? If it is a software feature, are there any camera app on the market that includes Stabilization? If not, I will fork over the money for the GS3. Btw, now I see two people offering one-on-one help. That makes it super hard for me to decide and pick one.
If I do decide on staying with the Epic, then rooting will mainly be for the RAM space as I will continue to use GO software and themes that I love.

Galaxy Nexus death scheduled ?

Hi,
I've got my GN for about 2 years now. It always runned fine. I use it essentially to make calls, mails, some european "anti-cop" app called "icoyote", spotify and that's it
Everything stock, full google official, no cracked bull**** apps or whatever.
Ok so now for about 1 month it became less and less stable. It literally happened from one day to another. I guarantee i didn't add/change or remove anything.
Main issues are : spotify crashes many times (~20 to 50) a day and 50% of the time the GPS fix fails to go trough, but a simple reboot and it work's instantly.
So I tought I should make a full factory reset. I did that and the issues I was experiencing remained the same.
Now comes the 1million $ question : how the heck can something stop to work from one day to another ? If it was some *unpredicted*, classic hardware failure, a simple reboot would definitely not solve it, for sure.
Leading to think it has to be software related..OK, so a factory reset should solve : it doesn't neither.
Why are those apps crashing even in a very stock/factory config? I even did skip this google restore profile bull**** to be sure i'm workng in a perfect clean state.
The only logic conclusion is that there must be some kind of hard coded counter which reached the end and is now triggering randomly something, *i don't know based on what, or activated how* making this **** happen
It's very very very frustrating because it was working like a charm those past 2 years and i thought it was a good investment. I was obviously wrong, another death scheduled device.
Now with the 4.3, I got the feeling it becomes even worse. Today, I had to reboot 4 times to get a gps fix (working 100% of the time just after the reboot) and it was a hassle to get trough 2 songs without being cut off in the middle of it.
FU samsung
But you only tried to flash 4.3. It's like giving a patient only 1 medicine and when that not works declare him dead. There maybe other ways to revive your phone..

when did i say that ? i'm done by years flashing a tool I use to work with. i'm not using it as a toy.
i received the update ota
there's nothing left to try, since my last basic test's where made in a official google factory default situation on a google phone
it's just stock u see? everything else i could try from this point would lead to a non-default situation making every further considerations totally pointless
Well, if i'm right, the so called "crash-routine" would *maybe* not be present in a custom rom, but, again, it worked before and has to work the same way now.
I refuse to use any other workarounds than factory resetting it and, since i already did that a few times, i'm done
i'm not awaiting some kind of help here. i'm just exposing my case and the frustration i'm feeling since samsung nicely dry-fcked me ^^
Don't know why you're acting up for no reason.
It doesn't take a genius to understand and figure out that applications designed and updated for 4.2.2 will most likely not work on 4.3 until the devs update it to work on 4.3. Which, from my experience, doesn't take long at all. That's probably one of the solutions to your few problems.
Way to take things a little too far and throw a tantrum rather than seeking help.
Also, if you have no intentions of seeking a fix then you didn't need to post anything at all.
You're not waiting around here for help? Well, I'm not going to offer help to someone with that kind of attitude.
Peace out you won't be missed.
BTW, there's nothing left to try? LOL
There's about 7 things left to try and one of them would have definitely worked 100%. Figure it out on your own since you know everything.
Read this. It's called Planned Obsolescence. Manufactures purposely make devices with limited lifespan in order to upgrade to their next new device.

Try wiping your SD card

got a second hand Lg G4 and just saw the promotion???

Folks, I recently purchased a month old LG G4 from a guy and its through Verizon, well the guys has been shipped overseas(he is in the service) and I just saw the promotion for the battery, battery cradle and micro sd card and my question is this, I have the phone and of course the IMEI number but I don't have a receipt for the phone, I've contacted LG and they tell me I have to have a copy of the receipt along with IMEI number of phone, can anyone suggest anything that would get me closer to being able to get the receipt for the phone like calling the store where it was purchased or anything like that? I texted the guy and he said he is locked out of his Verizon account so he couldn't get me a copy of receipt.
love the phone though and works great.
thanks in advance.
I doubt you can do anything, you bought in a secondary market.
If you really need a battery just buy it on ebay I seen some go for 20 bucks

Not 100% sure but I might take mine back due to unresponsiveness. IF I do take it back and get the N6, I'll give you the battery pack. You'll just pay shipping. Again, I'm not too sure. Just send me a pm so I won't forget if I end up doing it
Give me a break... At least wait for the update. It's not nearly bad enough to return the phone
My choice brother. Sorry if that bothers you
I agree. If you are having lagginess and have NOT factory reset, you are doing yourself a disservice. Phone is solid. Mine was freaking out when I first got it. I suspect it was because the Carrier tech skipped the initial setup and it was freaking out. After a factory reset and finished the setup properly, it has been amazing. I use Nova btw. Supposedly some of the LG Home Launcher widgets were buggy and eating ram and resources that cause lagginess and battery draining.
You can always try to submit for the Free battery and stuff. Worst case is they tell you no. I think you have until July 15th to Submit. Unfortunately you have to have a Receipt of Purchase. So unless you have the original Verizon receipt, you will be SOL.

THIS. Mine was having all kinds of lag and miss-touches (To the point that I kind of wanted to throw it against a wall) so I opted to do a factory reset and now I have literally NO lag at all. Was even able to install the launcher I wanted but could not use prior because of how buggy my G4 was being.
So as stated just do a factory reset and then give the phone a real chance.....You will thank yourself later for it.
folks, again I'm still new to Android, when you say " factory reset" I'm assuming you start from scratch on the phone? if you do this how are you getting your information back again as far as contacts, emails, pictures and so forth?
thanks

If your contacts are on Gmail, then you won't have any issues. That goes the same for emails.
Pictures and videos must be copied first to either your PC or copy them to Micro SD card. Then you reset your device, and then copy them back. It's quite simple. Let me know if you don't understand and I'll be more than happy to give you a more detailed explanation.

For pictures and videos, just like email/contacts store on the cloud, if you've loaded Google Photos and had it auto-upload all your content, it'll always be available as well.
Now, that said, while I'm with the others on holding onto the phone and giving it time, I do realize that the actual return windows for the product are finite. It's a lot harder to sell the device later on your own (not hard, just harder) rather than leverage a return to the store and potential impact of a restocking fee. The restocking fee may be a small price to pay for the piece of mind acquired by getting out of a device you don't want. For that, you're the only one that can make the decision.
Yeah no one cares what anyone else does with their own phone but don't go around telling others it's bad. It has a bad release software. LG messed up but hopefully they can fix it soon. They already claim to have updates ready soon.

LOL! The software on this phone isn't nearly as bad as the Optimus G. At least this is manageable for most (in my case, it's no issues at all really). The Optimus G would turn into a pocket heater due to borked kernel at release.
I can only imagine what some of the crowd in these G4 forums would have done if they had the S2 back when Sammy didn't do their homework and pushed out a release that bricked the devices that took the update before they could pull it....

I have minor problems. Every once in a while it misses a swipe on the keyboard and even less often I get some minor lag. Other than that it runs very well for me.

I can deal with a few tech ticks here and there. I really look for my phone to be spot on with phone, data and it's usage, sms, mms, and camera (biggest thing for me). So far, can't find much to complain about here.

Never told anyone the G4 wasn't good for anyone. I just said MY phone is having the issues. I don't have lag after the reset but the miss clicks are still there and it's horrible to the point where I have to touch 6 times just to wake the screen and I have to go back and rewrite stuff because it's missing a letter. I myself want a phone without issues out of the box and that's what I thought I was paying for. Again, I'm not saying the phone in general sucks, Im just upset at the first impression I got from it

Ouch. I would say you have a lemon. A few people do have legit problems, exchanged and 1000x better.
To factory reset, go into Settings. Security. Wipe device.
Contacts, apps, etc will restore when you first sign in to your google account during initial setup. There are tons of Getting Started guides for Android. If you are new to Android, welcome.

I wouldn't say that's true. I've been following several different forums, apart from XDA, and there are A LOT of people who complain of the knock-on issue. As well as the keyboard issue (with any keyboard). Many people claim that the issue goes away after a reset, but I actually do see a lot of them return saying "I was wrong, and it took 3-4 days for me to notice it again."
I think that there is a bug in the software. If they had found it, it would have been pushed ASAP seeing as it plagues a great many people. They're still working on it... Hopefully they'll fix it soon!
Just sayin'.
